@Mosleydoll78 You don’t need to use manual, but proprietary flashes will talk directly to the camera leading to more accurate metering. I only mentioned manual there because the 3rd party flashes don’t communicate with the camera in many cases beyond being triggered by the shutter press👍
I own this camera since late 2019, and so far is so good for what's my use, the only problem with this camera for me is the lack of low light capabilities and rather low dynamic range, and rather crappy lens (the kit that I buy include 18-55 mm III with no is, probably my fault to choose that lens lol) but other than that it's solid camera
The dynamic range of the 200d is actually rather good at almost 13.5 stops and with a fast lens it performs really well up to about 1600iso. The 18-55 is f3.5 at it's fastest which is 2 stops slower than the 50mm f1.8 so that could explain why you're not seeing what it's capable of in the dark. Life is better with a fast 50. I've dabble with a 700D for video using the Magic Lantern firmware. The problem with Canon APSC is the lack of wide angle lens, I think the 10-22mm is pretty much what you have.
Yeah 10-18 and 10-22 are the only ones that come to mind, but 16mm ff equivalent is pretty wide. I suspect that if you want to go wider there may be third party fisheye options, but it’s not something I’ve looked into. Thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial prime there is 14mm only, for portrait prime only a 50mm 1.8 from Canon. Like most APSC system, it was sort of developed for people who use zooms mostly. Fuji caught a niche here, but their lens and system almost as expensive as FF. So if one wants to get into a new system in 2023 for interchangeable lens, it is M43 or FF. Many people go for the Sony for FF mirrorless these days, what do think of the L mount?
@wckoek I did Sony and regretted it and have since switched to mft with an Em1 mkii for photo and GH5 for video. After years with ff I came to the realisation that it’s only real benefits are a stop or two of iso performance (if you’re using a newer model) and a shallower depth of field if you want it. You’re right about Fuji, they same a very average apsc market and decided to make it their own. I toyed with the idea of both a Leica T earlier this year and a Lumix S5 when I picked up the GH5. Both looked great for different reasons but I’m nicely into mft with my lenses now and didn’t fancy starting over with another lens mount.
@@DavidFlowerOfficial yeah, unless if you go "pro" or do high quality video for the money then the extra 1-2 stop is important for your work. I hope they would update the models for rangefinders, Olympus is focusing now on their larger OM1, and Panasonic for their GH system. It had been a while without a new PEN model and the GX9 is getting old as well.
True, the iso performance does help, but with modern noise reduction etc I think it’s mostly marketing. I do like the look of rangefinder style cameras because as someone with a substantial nose, not having it squashed against the screen when using the evf is always nice 😁
If 1080p is good enough for your needs then yes, it’s a great camera. It doesn’t have any super fancy video features, but it will get the job done. If you want 4k there are always things like the Dji Osmo pocket which are great vlogging cameras or even a reasonably modern phone can look and sound good with the right lighting and microphone🖖

@@DavidFlowerOfficial thank you and I hope we meet one day so we can shoot on the streets together Maby we can do a nice RUclips video together, it will be nice to set down with you and talk about photography …
It can shoot at 5fps which is pretty much standard, so I guess it would depend on the sports and how fast you need to be. My wife uses hers for wildlife and has never had any issues with her 150-600. If you need something faster a mirrorless system like the Sony a6000 line is a good place to look as they all shoot around 11fps 🖖
Thanks very much🙏 I think the main differences between the 200 and 250d were the updated processor and the addition of 4k video. If neither of those things matter to you I think the 200d will be perfect. It’s a great camera and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the image quality 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial sorry to bug you again, my main use of the camera will be photography but I might also try video/short films at some stage. Do you think the 200d would be capable of decent video for a short film or is it kind of just down to the skill of the filmmaker more which I suspect?
The 1080p from the 200d is perfectly usable especially as it can do 60fps for some 40% speed slow motion. If used with a stabilised lens or gimbal the footage will look great👍
Brilliant video mate. I found the channel while trying to convince myself to stick with my 200d instead of buying a Canon R10. Are there any lenses you would recommend for the 200d? Thank you. Rab
Well you’re really spoilt for choice in Canon EF mount. I guess lens choice depends what kind of stuff you’re shooting and in what conditions. They literally have everything you’ll need 🖖
Hi David, Just watched your video for finding out more about the 200D, and I found out also you took very nice pictures, I really like them. I was thinking about this model over the 2000D for better processor, possibility of an external mic, and the touchscreen, have you tried the 200D in any sport situation? If so, how did you feel about it? Thanks for the reply.
I've never shot sports with the 200D but my wife shoots wildlife with it and the 5fps burst and Dpaf work great. Thanks for watching, have a great day 🖖
It's a great idea and a great combo. It's a fantastic camera that can perform brilliantly. Not to mention it's very compact. Thanks for watching and have fun with your camera 🖖
Ronin gimbal compatibility. Have you used this with a DJI Ronin RS3, pro, or mini? I would love to find out if it will talk to each other via Bluetooth. Or even a cable. I know it’s overkill but I want to buy once cry once on the gimbal and upgrade camera at a later date. Thank you.
I don’t have the DJI Ronin, my main gimbal is the Zhiyun Weebil 3s and the compatibility lists for both that and the rs3 pro list the 200d mark ii as compatible but the original 200d isn’t listed. Hope that helps🖖
@@danmarsalek9809 With regards lenses there are lots of great options. What you like to shoot will determine which lenses are better suited to your style 👍
What kind of mic are you using ? I’m curious about the audio. You can hear birds very clearly and also the crunch of leaves and your footsteps when you’re walking, but there is no noise in the audio. Any tips on how you’re achieving this ?
My setup is very simple really. I use a cheap, but very good Takstar shotgun mic (about £30) and the zoom H1n audio recorder. All I do is sit the mic on its own little tripod or mount it to the camera. Hope this helps🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial that does help! And when you’re editing the audio it’s possible to remove the excess windy noise while keeping the bird sounds and any other rustling sounds you want to keep? Or the mic helps with keeping those noises out altogether ?
I use a wind shield (dead cat) on the mic to lessen or eliminate wind noise and in post all I usually do is add a little compression to even everything out 👍
You talking about the Eos m100 or this 200d? If so, it comes down to how you want to use it. They're pretty much the same thing when it comes to specs so I guess it depends on whether you want mirrorless or DSLR, flip up screen or fully articulated etc. From a video and photo point of view you'll be getting pretty much the same results so it just comes down to the user experience I guess. Hope that helps🖖
I was about to get rid of this camera because I can't get a decent video on low light, but just figured out is all because of the kit lens. What lens do you recommend for indoors low light setting recording video for youtubes and shorts. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much.
When I was using apsc for talking head RUclips bits, I almost always used the 30mm f2.8 sigma art lens to give a 45mm equivalent field of view and used a 50mm f1.8 for broll. I’m not sure what is available from canon, but a good rule of thumb is to apply a good amount of light to your scene and use a reasonably fast lens and indoors shoot at 24fps so you can slow the shutter down to 1/50 without things looking funky🖖
@DavidFlowerOfficial thank you so much. This really helps a lot. I was shooting at 29 and will bring it down to 24. I also just picked up a 50m lens will let you know how it goes.
I've never had a problem with shutter shock on any of the DSLRs I've ever used. Older DSLRs may have had that issue given how some of them were like firecrackers going off, the canon 1d markiii is a good example of that😂 Thanks for watching 🖖
With the right lens it's certainly possible although at around 5fps burst it's fairly average. If you want a similar camera in terms of capabilities and cost I'd suggest you look at something like the Sony A6000 to get the higher 11fps burst mode and the same 1080p video. If you want to spend a little more to get higher quality videos, the a6300 or better will certainly work. Hope this helps 🖖
This is a great camera that I’d definitely recommend. As for your budget, I’m not sure what you’d get for that where you live. Here in the UK this camera sells for around £200-300 on the used market. Depending on what you want to shoot you might get a suitable lens or 2 within your budget. If you’re wanting a good all round lens to get you started the 18-135mm stm is a great place to start🖖
@DavidFlowerOfficial thanks David I live in Australia but from nepal..when I was srolling the market place I saw the 200d with 4 lens within 750$ . And I was wondering with the price cause I thought I is cheap one.. ....if it is good one I am gonna definitely buy this cameras 📷 🙂.
If it’s for macro my wife uses the tamron 90mm f2.8 is a good option. It does have some colour fringing on high contrast edges, but very manageable in post. If you want something more generalised the 18-135 stm is a great choice 🖖
Yeah the flange distance on a canon is large enough to allow some vintage lenses to be adapted. The one in this video is an M42 mount lens from the late 70's or early 80's. The adapters are a simple plate with no electronic connections. I made a more recent video with the Canon 6d and Helios 44 lens where I talk a little bit about it 🖖
If it’s specifically a dslr you want, the 250d/sl3 is a good option on paper. Though as I’ve found recently if you want a great feature set, the micro four thirds system offers some awesome cameras with high end features like ibis etc. at very reasonable prices 🖖
It's just a cheap one from Amazon. EF to m42. I've been asked about it a few times now so I'm going to be making a video all about adapted lenses on canon DSLRs. Thanks for watching 🖖
I don’t own the Nex 5t so I can only go on my experience with the Nex 5 and what’s on the spec sheet. 200d has higher resolution for photos 24mpx vs 16mpx it does the same full hd video and has a flip up rather than a fully articulated screen. Despite the 200D being a small camera, the nex5t is smaller. For everyday use it basically comes down to size and what lenses you want to use. I expect the Nex5t will be the cheaper option given how the 200d has held its value surprisingly well and that saving can be pushed into the lenses since that’s what really matters. Hope that helps🖖
Modern mirrorless are fantastic things , but I agree, many of them have way too much going on. I still prefer shooting with a simple dslr like the canon 5d or 6d🖖
Howdy david! Bit of a funny story my barbers sister gave me her SL2 cause she heard I wanted to get in to photography, so now I'm trying to learn to take picture's with it and I gotta tell you this video was a great help!

I hope you get a new Instagram up and going too as it's the only social media I use these days but I've subscribed and followed on Facebook. ✌💜
I'd say just stick with a kit lens like the 18-55. Using something like that will be more than enough until you know what you want to shoot and how you like to shoot👍
If you’re referring to the 29:59 recording limit I’m not aware of any way to bypass it. With that said, I’ve never once got close to the record limit while shooting any of these vide do it’s not something I’ve looked into.

I do like the look of rangefinder style cameras because as someone with a substantial nose, not having it squashed against the screen when using the evf is always nice 😁
thank you i think about to get this one!
It's a wonderful camera. Thanks for watching 🖖
I’m a RUclipsr focused on vlogs, sit downs and make up at times. Would this still be good in 2024? Just saw one for a great price 2nd hand
One thing that annoys me at the moment is I can't access ISO100 through manual settings. Unless I just don't know how?
On the 200d you can do it via the touch screen by hitting 'Q' and then simply dragging your finger across the iso bar👍
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Thanks for the reply. Just double checked and it looks like it starts at 200. The option before that is Auto. I can't select half way.
Nice shots as usual mate …
Well I have the Canon 100D the older model and it’s a fantastic camera for Street Photography because it’s small and very easy to use
Most of the time I use it with my Canon 55-250 mm EF-S STM lens an amazing combo for SP ….
By the way thanks for the many likes on Instagram….
Have a nice weekend mate …
Thanks very much. Canon really have made some great cameras. I'm looking forward to using it for a night street shoot. I really love your images mate. Thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial thank you and I hope we meet one day so we can shoot on the streets together Maby we can do a nice RUclips video together, it will be nice to set down with you and talk about photography …
Is this camera good for sports photography with a 75-300 lens?
It can shoot at 5fps which is pretty much standard, so I guess it would depend on the sports and how fast you need to be. My wife uses hers for wildlife and has never had any issues with her 150-600.
If you need something faster a mirrorless system like the Sony a6000 line is a good place to look as they all shoot around 11fps 🖖
Do you think it's worth getting the 200d over the 250d if I'm on a budget?
Really enjoyed the video btw. You should have way more subs!!
Thanks very much🙏
I think the main differences between the 200 and 250d were the updated processor and the addition of 4k video.
If used with a stabilised lens or gimbal the footage will look great👍
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Thanks David! Looks like I'll be buying the 200d then.
I can’t believe you persisted with the A7s when your woman’s has this. Flippy touch screen!!!!
Flippy touch screen indeed🖖😁
Brilliant video mate.
I found the channel while trying to convince myself to stick with my 200d instead of buying a Canon R10.
Are there any lenses you would recommend for the 200d?
Thank you.
Rab
Well you’re really spoilt for choice in Canon EF mount. I guess lens choice depends what kind of stuff you’re shooting and in what conditions. They literally have everything you’ll need 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial cheers for the reply mate. It’s good to know that all the options are covered. 😀
Hi David,
Just watched your video for finding out more about the 200D, and I found out also you took very nice pictures, I really like them.
Thanks for watching, have a great day 🖖
I’m a beginner at photography and I wanna get a 200d with a 50mm to practice my portraits, do you think it’s a good idea ?
It's a great idea and a great combo. It's a fantastic camera that can perform brilliantly. Not to mention it's very compact. Thanks for watching and have fun with your camera 🖖
Get a 24mm too. Both are great
Thanks
Ronin gimbal compatibility.
Have you used this with a DJI Ronin RS3, pro, or mini? I would love to find out if it will talk to each other via Bluetooth. Or even a cable. I know it’s overkill but I want to buy once cry once on the gimbal and upgrade camera at a later date. Thank you.
I don’t have the DJI Ronin, my main gimbal is the Zhiyun Weebil 3s and the compatibility lists for both that and the rs3 pro list the 200d mark ii as compatible but the original 200d isn’t listed. Hope that helps🖖
Great video mate, cheers!
Appreciate it. Thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I have just bought a 200D its a nice camera with a 50mm lens, do you recommend anything extra to get for it ?
@@danmarsalek9809 With regards lenses there are lots of great options. What you like to shoot will determine which lenses are better suited to your style 👍
@@DavidFlowerOfficial cool, thank you for the info. Awesome videos as well dude 👌
I use a wind shield (dead cat) on the mic to lessen or eliminate wind noise and in post all I usually do is add a little compression to even everything out 👍
@@DavidFlowerOfficial thank you so much for answering, that makes a lot of sense and I’m experimenting with audio nowadays and it’s super fun
Hey man, these are some amazing shots, I am newbie ,
Stumbled with whether to chose M100 or D200, if you were to suggest what would it be?
You talking about the Eos m100 or this 200d? If so, it comes down to how you want to use it. They're pretty much the same thing when it comes to specs so I guess it depends on whether you want mirrorless or DSLR, flip up screen or fully articulated etc. From a video and photo point of view you'll be getting pretty much the same results so it just comes down to the user experience I guess. Hope that helps🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Thank you for the suggestion, big ups to your channel
I like ❤200 d canon
It’s a great camera. There will be more videos with this in 2024🖖😁
I was about to get rid of this camera because I can't get a decent video on low light, but just figured out is all because of the kit lens.
Low light review please 🥺
It's on it's way 😁👍
Doesn't the vibration caused by the mirror make it difficult to take a sharp photo?
I've never had a problem with shutter shock on any of the DSLRs I've ever used. Older DSLRs may have had that issue given how some of them were like firecrackers going off, the canon 1d markiii is a good example of that😂
Thanks for watching 🖖
I have a question! I’m wanting to use this camera for taking photos and videos of sports players. Do you think this would be a good choice?
With the right lens it's certainly possible although at around 5fps burst it's fairly average. If you want a similar camera in terms of capabilities and cost I'd suggest you look at something like the Sony A6000 to get the higher 11fps burst mode and the same 1080p video. If you want to spend a little more to get higher quality videos, the a6300 or better will certainly work. Hope this helps 🖖
Can i buy this camera with 4 lens in 750$ in secomd hand..
I want to start photography but wondering which camera is good for beginners..thankyou ..
@DavidFlowerOfficial thanks David I live in Australia but from nepal..when
I was srolling the market place I saw the 200d with 4 lens within 750$ .
And I was wondering with the price cause I thought I is cheap one..
....if it is good one I am gonna definitely buy this cameras 📷 🙂.
Hi ive been recommended this camera as i sell items online and im looking for a small camera to take close up pictures with good definition.
It’s a great option when paired with a nice macro lens. Plenty of resolution in this camera🖖
@DavidFlowerOfficial hi thank you. Which lens would you recommend. Reasonable priced. In your opinion
If it’s for macro my wife uses the tamron 90mm f2.8 is a good option. It does have some colour fringing on high contrast edges, but very manageable in post. If you want something more generalised the 18-135 stm is a great choice 🖖
I’m sorry I’m confused but your using a different brand lens on a canon?
Yeah the flange distance on a canon is large enough to allow some vintage lenses to be adapted. The one in this video is an M42 mount lens from the late 70's or early 80's. The adapters are a simple plate with no electronic connections. I made a more recent video with the Canon 6d and Helios 44 lens where I talk a little bit about it 🖖
Hey man is it worth buying a refurbished canon 200d?
It's a great camera so as long as the place you're buying from is trusted it sounds like a viable option 👍
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I didn’t think you would response so fast. Thanks a bunch man. You are helpful 💯
what's the best budget 4k dslr?
If it’s specifically a dslr you want, the 250d/sl3 is a good option on paper. Though as I’ve found recently if you want a great feature set, the micro four thirds system offers some awesome cameras with high end features like ibis etc. at very reasonable prices 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I see... If you have time do make a video about this segment.
Check mail
what's your adapter for Helios lens?
It's just a cheap one from Amazon. EF to m42. I've been asked about it a few times now so I'm going to be making a video all about adapted lenses on canon DSLRs.
Thanks for watching 🖖
how is this compare to sony nex 5t?how
I don’t own the Nex 5t so I can only go on my experience with the Nex 5 and what’s on the spec sheet.
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I just curious about the focus performance of those 2
Can I take photos like this with canon 70-300m??
The canon 70-300 is almost certainly a better quality lens so it then comes down to what you do with it. Thanks for watching 🖖
I bought a lumix g85. Too complicated. This is more my speed
Modern mirrorless are fantastic things , but I agree, many of them have way too much going on. I still prefer shooting with a simple dslr like the canon 5d or 6d🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial this’ll be my first camera. I like the sl2 bc of the flippity flip screen. Thanks for reviewing it
Howdy david! Bit of a funny story my barbers sister gave me her SL2 cause she heard I wanted to get in to photography, so now I'm trying to learn to take picture's with it and I gotta tell you this video was a great help!
That's great! The SL2 is a fantastic camera. Hope you have some fun with it 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial i will for sure!

what lense did you use?
All the lens info is on the images in the video. I used a few different lenses in this video 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Thank you you're talented. i have Canon 200D with kit lens. could you suggest me a good lens as a beginner?
I'd say just stick with a kit lens like the 18-55. Using something like that will be more than enough until you know what you want to shoot and how you like to shoot👍
Is there a way you bypass the time record last limit
If you’re referring to the 29:59 recording limit I’m not aware of any way to bypass it. With that said, I’ve never once got close to the record limit while shooting any of these vide do it’s not something I’ve looked into.
@@DavidFlowerOfficial ok thank you so much for replaying.bless have a great Holiday😃👍
