      I got my sl2 about 2 years ago, 2 years after my sl1 - i overpaid while on vacation and spent like $850 for a lens, bag, and sl1
      Sl2 was $550 without lens, but with filters and battery, charger, i think it even came with a bag. And it's 24 rather than 18mp.
      Sl2 is awesome and faster than sl1. I can tell the difference in darkness is much better and more useful.
      Especially compared to my rebel xs from a decade ago.
      I compared images, videos, and even screwing around with the shutter speed to smooth out water effects, YOU CAN'T EVEN SHOW DECENT WATER EFFECTS WITH OLD CAMERAS!
      the sl2 is 100 times better than any canon in even twice the price range compared to last decade.
      The sl2 didn't give any extra creative filters which pisses me off.
      I don't want to edit my photos outside my camera.
      This is the future, and that should be the future.
      In-camera photo editing!!!

    • @rstaraptorphotography3082
      @rstaraptorphotography3082 4 года назад +2

      @@therealcinnimo there was something about the sl3 i didn't like.
      They reduced some qualities.
      I think my next camera will be full frame, but I just compaired close shots with my sl2 and my galaxy note 9 and my phone takes better short range photos.
      Pisses me off.
      My camera is 6mp more but my phone just blows my camera out of the water.
      I'd say now, for macro and micro photos, don't touch a camera.
      Only grab your phone.
      I took like 10 different shots and my sl2 just had a type of blur i couldn't get rid of.
      It's always been like that.
      Back 4 years ago this would be a completely different story, my galaxy s4 took "good" photos, but my sl1 i though was vastly superior.
      Times have changed.
      Nobody buys cameras now, and it's because phones are better somehow.

  • @AlainLafleche1
    @AlainLafleche1 5 лет назад +85

    I think the SL2 is the winner. Not much of a difference in image quality, and most peoples still use 1080p videos as it is more easy in post on your computer.
    At 1080p, 60fps like you said, you can do pretty good slow motion, and in Canada, you can have the SL2 at $560.00 and the SL3 $899.99 a pretty big $ 339.99 difference.
    For the price, i can even buy the Rebel SL2 with a Gopro7 Black and i can do both 1080P and 4K for just $120.00 more than the price of the SL3 :-)

    I own a sl2(200d) and I don't do live streaming or anything live,.... Videos are already great, having 4k might give sl3 an edge but having crop factor of more than 2 is just no no. Most of people would just stick with 1080p, in photography side I see no major difference, except the battery life. And don't get it wrong, the sl2 gives already around 1500 shots with full battery with viewfinder. You will most be shooting... If you are going for photography just go for cheaper sl2, and if for video, it's really up to if you want that cropped 4k....eye detection is nice though...
    I say go for cheaper sl2 at last.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 лет назад +10

      Sl3(200d ll) price is ₹66,000.

      I bought my SL2 in mid January after returning the Canon PowerShot sx740 & then the Canon T7i. The PowerShot & T7i took great photos however when it comes to a price point and similar features I decided to stick with my SL2. After seeing the SL3 come out, I had a moment if I made the right decision on buying in January 2019 vs waiting until now. Thank you for this comment and this video. Now I will invest into lenses instead of upgrading to a newer model camera that's in the same category of what I already own.

    THE BEST COMPARISON! I have seen numerous videos and read a bunch of articles in magazines and on the Net!
    YOU - Good Sir - are the ONLY ONE That mentions the additional crop factor when filming in 4K!
    I have a 200D and I had just bought it a few months before the 250D arrived! AND I was struck by instant "Fear Of Missing Out"! As the 250D has 4K and the 200D doesn't!
    I have been planning on filming with a DSLR for some years now - and THAT is one of the reasons why I upgraded from 600D to 200D! I also love how the 200D with the 24 mm pancake lens is so small that it fits in the pocket of a overcoat!
    Your videos have been very useful and informative to me and TODAY! I am finally going to try shooting my first RUclips video! Yesterday I went out and bough me a hotshoe mount shotgun mike (a Boya By-bm2021)!
    And I'm planning on filming four people discussing with the shotgun mike, lavaliers recording to smartphones for the two on the sides and either my Canon "nifty 50" or Sigma 18-250! As I will be one of the "talking heads" It will be shot with a fixed camera!
    I THANK YOU for ALL the useful information you give in your videos and I want to encourage you to keep up the good work!

    I use SL2, doesn’t see too much increase in terms of functionality for SL3 except battery and 4k, and the current battery life already enough for me to shoot for a whole day. And for video 1080p and 60fps are enough and don’t take up too much space in terms of data storage.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 лет назад +1

      You can do that, but it won’t yield the exact same results. It has to do with the shutter speed and the amount of motion blue your get at 24fps.

    Sooo, with LS3 filming with 24fps for that cinematic footage I really want, I need to shoot in 4k, which can work sometimes but are very zoomed in.
    But I do live in Sweden, and then you say “not living in North America”. So I can shoot in 25fps in 4K + 1080hp.
    Question, how is the difference from 24 to 25fps? And, what more than 1080p would you wish for?

    Thank you. This was a nice comparison. I recently picked up an SL2 at a pawn shop and immediately put it to work as my workhorse for my online sales business. I do my product photography using the SL2 on a tripod, set to square photo format, at low resolution, with external lighting, using live view with the touch shutter. I shoot product videos with it, as well, and get good quality with small file size MP4 files. The WiFi works great. All of my photos taken each day go into a folder for that day, which keeps them organized. The WiFi connection means that I do not ever need to have a cord running from my camera to my computer.. I had been using a 77D, which did everything I needed, but I felt I was wasting a lot of great features of the 77D using it that way, so replaced it with the SL2, and replaced an earlier SL1 with the 77D as my vacation camera. Since the SL2 and 77D share the same battery, and I use a power adapter on the SL2 on the tripod, that gave me an extra battery for vacations. I had wondered about what the SL3 offered, and from your video I can see that while it has some nice features, in the way I would use it ,there is no good reason for me to seek one out.

I ended up fixing it, the back screen was there, it was just no longer attached, so i reattached it with hot glue and dreams, and got it tested, it worked. Bought a lens on ebay and aftermarket batteries, and now I got a really damn cool camera now

    A couple questions. I watched the video and have seen others. How are the cameras for night filming and pictures. Specifically focusing with all of the excess lighting. My son is mainly interested in fire related scenes (fires, accidents, vehicles), currently he is using an ipod and we know that while that is okay he wants to get a better camera. Of all of the videos I've seen, nothing has said anything about night time action. Originally I was liking the sl2 over the sl3, but then realizing the 3 had just a bit better edge. He doesn't want to spend past 700, but he gets it. Quality of finished product is based on pricing.
    1. Night time photo and video actions for cameras. Pretty good or with all of the flashing lights still a problem?
    2. Shooting from across the street. Short or long lens? Fire engines would sometimes be coming toward him.

    Hi a small question
    You talk about not being able to film in 24 fps with the SL3 for NTSC, but you can film in 25 fps on pal.
    Can't you just switch between these options? (I think you showed that on the video, so I feel like I'm missing the problem) because I like that NTSC has 60 fps but I'm European.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  4 года назад

      Yes, you can switch. The reasons for PAL VS NTSC has to do with frequencies in electricity delivery which could cause a flicker effect if used in the wrong zone. Hope this makes sense

      Tech Gear Talk I think so, but thanks for the answer 😊👍

      It will basically depend on your lighting. If you shoot in the wrong format, you could get a constant light flicker.

    Sorry for the newbie question, but isn't higher the better in terms of fps? Wouldn't 1080p @60 fps look better than 1080p @24 fps even in cinema view?

      @@TechGearTalk I am a pro photographer (Canon) with over 20 yrs of experiance and for the last few years have been a camera sales person . I have not yet had a chance to extensively use the SL3, but the SL2 has always been huge bang for the buck and a sweet spot on the cost/performance graph. Thanks !

    Thanks for the video. I'm thinking to replace my old 550D that I have very good memories with. I'm looking for a small DSLR with pretty good specifications. I was going to select SL2 but 4K Timelapse made me think about SL3.
    I have a question if both of the cameras have an option to disable AGC (Auto Gain Controller). I have had big problems with AGC disabling and thankfully Magic Lantern helped me.

    Hello! Can you please explain why you have to crop 4k video? What problem does that solve? Great videos and definitely earned a sub.

    This really helped me decide. It's sl3 for me, Primarily for better focus with more focus points. I already have a M6, but sometimes both my wife and I need to shoot at the same time. She has a keen eye but doesn't care to know about anything other than turning it on and taking photos. She does not like the larger cameras and thinks the M6 is too small. Unless I find a screaming deal on an SL2, it's the SL3 for me.

    A great video! I am thinking of SL3 as it is within my budget and the specifications seem to be good. But, I need to make the right decision. I want your advice, please. What is the best budget camera in general for a person who is just going to learn photo and videography and also can use the same camera for the initial years of a Photo and videography career? Areas will be covering Weddings, newborns, parties, and portraits. (it doesn't have to be between SL2 or SL3, but can be any brand or model. The main thing is I should be able to use it during the initial stage of my work ) Thank you

    Amazing review! Do you know how much time does SL2 and SL3 record? Like the max size of the video in minutes... And also the battery duration for videos. I am about to buy the SL3 to start with better video productions, currently I shot on smartphones. Galaxy S9 has a great camera but I would like a little bit more now.

      Both cameras have a 30 minute record limit (for a single clip). As far as battery life, I do this (with a different part number) for both cameras: ruclips.net/video/TOpsG_jlEbU/видео.html

    Hi there! Trying to figure whether the SL2 or the SL3 is better for me. I am a beginner, planning on getting a camera for photography of indoor events for school, and general family use when traveling and going on trips. I plan to use video here and there, but nothing professional.
    I notice a lot of people discussing the SL3 lacking the 1080/24, but it also doesnt have the ability to add a third party flash (which I'm not sure I'm going to be using anyway, at least right now). How important is the eye recognition over these other aspects given my use?
    PS - Finding a $100 difference, and my budget is $900 max. Looking to get the Sigma 17-50 lens for all around use but I was also recommended the Tamron SP 28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di.
    Which is better for me? Thanks!

      I am also looking at buying the 250D on Friday and I am interested in the eye detection in video mode. Is it making a real difference when compared to the M50 and 200D ?! It would have been amazing to see an actual comparison side by side, since this is one of the main selling points of this camera.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 лет назад +1

      @Isaac Attia - you've outlined the things I don't like about the SL3 (no 1080/24 and removal of the hot shoe center pin). For me, the hotshoe is less important. Eye recognition is really nice for portraits, you're going to appreciate it. Especially if you're shooting with a shallow depth of field and it's important you get that closest eye in focus.
      Look, I've lived without it for years and so has everyone else, so it's not a deal breaker, but it's nice to have.
      @sebastianFM - For video, it's a little less important because the face detection is pretty good and there is usually motion blur anyway.
      Again, nice to have, not critical.

    great video again! theres an interesting topic i can suggest, if you use gimbals, the sl2 doesn't work well with strong ones, jittering, lack of balance makes it almost unusable. keep up the good work! thanks for another video.
