    I just purchased this camera today and your review was really helpful in my decision. Most reviews are fairly quick and don't spare time to go in depth on individual camera functions. Thanks!

    The SL2 is a very and I mean VERY underrated camera. It is so lightweight, yet packs so much features for a great price.
    If you’re a professional it serves great to replace better cameras when you are going out and don’t want/need the weight of those bulky cameras. Considering that this DSLR is compatible with most lenses.
    If you’re a amateur or just casual shooter, this is the camera for you. Considering the price and weight, and wide adaptability it can serve. Plus it is simple to use and intuitive.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 лет назад +1

      I 100% agree with you. This is an outstanding camera for the price and is probably the best value on the market right now.

    This is literally the best review I've seen on this camera. Very detailed and you explained what the features do for someone who is not a pro photographer. Thanks for this video! As a beauty content creator, I think I will go with this over the 80D.

    Great job with this amazing review. I purchased the camera 1 month ago and I absolutely love it although I don’t understand it as I am new to the world of filing and photography. I have search for review videos and they are all so fast and only touch the surface. I really appreciate how in depth you went on this camera, I am able to understand it more now only after 2 of your videos. I have so much to learn is overwhelming. Also, loved how you take your one to speak concise, clear, and very slow.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm really glad that the videos are helpful. The camera can do a lot so I can see how it may appear overwhelming, so just take your time. There is no clock on learning, go at your own pace. I think sometimes people try to "learn" too much and they don't absorb the concepts, so don't be too hard on yourself.
      If you have any questions, let me know and I'll try to help. Which lens/es did you get?

      I love so much the video. Very stylish and complete. I need some advice from you because I'm changing my 100d body. I'm between the 200d and the 77d. I started with DSLR 3 years ago. I love the 200d but on the other hand I feel like the invest I need to do is not worth coming from the 100d. Maybe I should invest 200€ more and get the 77d because of the better af 45points, the top LCD, the digital stabiliser for videos and more dials and buttons. I saw a lot of videos but I keep asking which one to pick. if I get the 200d I have to pay 350€ and for 77d 559-571€ (got 200€ from selling 100d body). Help me. The difference is above 200€ between both. I am not a pro but I don't want to choose wrong now that I am investing again so I don't want to feel the need of changing two years after buying. thank you so much

      Hi Arturo. Before I go into some advice. Can you tell me a little about what you use the camera for (photography? video? both?)

    • @_arturomerino_
      @_arturomerino_ 7 лет назад +1

      Tech Gear Talk i use the camera mainly for photography. sometimes I can take some video but sporadic. the reason why I am asking is because moving from the 100d makes me doubt. if it was my first camera I would like the 200d all the way as I did with the 100d. I missed a lot the moving display so I decided to change the body and now that I have the possibility to choose I am so confused. I don't want to spend in something that two years after is limited or obsolete. what about the af focus differences? do you think is important, worth the 200€ difference? thank you so much. I am trying to buy today and stop thinking jaja
      with the 200€ difference I could pick a 24mm 2.8 if I pick the 200d. if not I will have to wait but I don't want to make the body decision with this matter

    Every review video only focuses on the video quality but never on picture quality. I don't want to use this camera as a RUclipsr nor as a V-logger. I just want a light camera that takes great pictures and timelapses when I am on the road.

    • @blendering3D

      I own this camera and it is also great for photography, there are some limitations when it comes to the OVF because of the 9 Af points but if you use the Live View you can take advantage of the video features for composition and focus on photography, but battery willl drain faster with Live View, from around 650 shots to aprox 250 photos. you can balance it's main weakness with a huge strenght. Oh and it also does timelapse pretty good too, the camera allows you to do so in 1080p, but if you want more resolution you should get a remote and take separate still images and put it together in post. Hope you find my response useful one year later LOL

    So I watched this whole vid after ranting about my M6 / Camera Connect app's inability to shoot video remotely on your other video ;) and now you have me wanting to upgrade my old t5i to the SL2!
    I've heard about this model but didn't pay much attention to it until this review (great job!) Hmmm so tempted to upgrade, heh

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 лет назад +2

      First, thank you for watching and I'm glad you liked it (thanks for the kind words).
      I really like this camera. For the price, it's hard to beat. And if you're already in the Canon ecosystem (and I know you are), you can just re-use your lenses.
      The Dual Pixel AF is SO GOOD!
      If it's in the budget...
      What are you shooting your videos with now?

    • @EffortlessGentTV
      @EffortlessGentTV 6 лет назад

      The Dual Pixel is incredible. That's one of the reasons I picked up the M6 (which is what I shoot everything on now).
      I use my t5i as a secondary cam when necessary, but the autofocus simply isn't as good. What IS easier about it is the fact that I can hook it up to a screen / my macbook and shoot video tethered. And this probably isn't important to everyone but since it's just me filming myself, it's incredibly important to me ;)
      If the M6 wasn't as good at face tracking, it would be a much bigger issue, but since it works great, I just deal with not being able to shoot tethered or with the Canon app.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 лет назад

      That makes sense. I honestly never think about AF anymore when I have face detection on my Canon cameras.
      The more you talk about it, the more this camera will probably make sense for you.

      I don't have any tutorials abut it's not a bad idea for me to put one together if people are interested. I'm assuming you're using a PC. If not, Final Cut Pro is a great option for a mac.
      I have the entire Creative Cloud Suite because I also use Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition and Dreamweaver.
      Once you get used to PP it's not bad at all. Of course there is a lot you can do, but it doesn't mean you need it all.
      What are some limitations of Camtasia that you wish to overcome?

      I just purchased the camera bundle and haven't had a chance to dig into it yet. I will get back to you with questions. Great of you to offer. I will be using it mainly on vacations and while I am bass fishing on my bass boat, I usually fish alone and plan to use it on a tripod to record video of me holding fish I caught, etc. I might even explore doing some vlogging. I own a home improvement company and hope to use it in the business once I familiarize myself with it further. As more feedback for you with regards to your video. The way you speak, which is not super-fast, and the way you articulate your words is an asset for folks trying to understand details in your video. Just wanted to mention it . Keep it up bud. Look forward to watching all your stuff. Curt

      This camera is going to work great for all of the uses you mentioned. Careful with it on the boat :)
      For your home improvement it will work for both stills and to shoot some video to showcase your work. My background is in marketing, web design and branding: don't forget to shoot the "before". The impact of seeing the transformation is more powerful than just seeing the results.
      Thank you again for checking back in and congrats!!

    I love that this camera can use the camera connect app. I’m a church pastor and because of the pandemic we have started to prerecord church services for folks stuck at home. It can only be me in the room when I film so the app is invaluable to setting everything up. Was torn between the the SL2 and the SL3 but used the difference in price to get a 50mm lens for better DOF.

    • @TechGearTalk

      Do you already have lenses for the T5i? It's and EF-S mount so you could use those same lenses on the SL2 and not have to buy new lenses.
      Both cameras will do a fantastic job for vlogging. The M6 is smaller , has more focus points for photography (may not matter if you're only using it for video). The SL2 lets you use your current lenses, has a viewfinder (again, will not matter if it's for video use only).
      I'll wait to hear about your current lens situation.

      I am going to NYC at the end of August for few days, and don't own any camera, other than my iPhone. I want to shoot some very decent pics, but also shoot some high quality vids. I want to use the camera for vlogging too in the future. I am from UK so this trip is very much something to look forward to and I want to capture so much. Another important aspect is battery life. Any help on that would be greatly appreciated. I am going to check out the M5o. Have to say my heart was set on GX7 mk 2 before I watched your excellent reviews. Great work btw!

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 лет назад +1

      That sounds like an awesome trip! I would 100% get an extra battery if not 2. The M50 has a pretty bad battery life, but that is pretty much the only bad thing I would say about it. The reason I say maybe 2 batteries is because I think it's worth never losing a shot.
      The G7XMK2 is an awesome camera if you don't care about an external audio source.
      But if you are going to vlog, you're probably going to want better audio at some point.
      I'm so glad that the reviews are being helpful. Let me know what you think of the M50.

      Thank you for your reply. Not really sold on the M50 sorry. It is too pricey for what I feel it offers me. For less than that I can get the SL2 which is a DSLR. Yep, the external mic on SLR2 and the remote control will probably might sway it for me. Have to see I was highly keen on the G7XMK2, specially what is can do for the price and the size. Hoping it would be another awesome trip to NYC. I love it there. Went to NYC two years ago, and loved it. I have subbed now, so might get better informed on the digital camera world from your channel. Keep up the good work!

      @TechGearTalk  7 лет назад

      Thank you for watching! I don't have the body with me at the moment but I just spoke with someone at Canon who said it was possible. Normally I don't like to pass this info along without testing it but I'm not sure when I'll be able to actually check it out so I was just getting back to you.
      As far as the preamp being hissy, quick question, are using an external microphone?

    • @BabyBackManiac
      @BabyBackManiac 7 лет назад

      Tech Gear Talk yeah, but I’m using a powered mic so I can turn down the preamps. I’d like to use a smaller mic like rode video micro That would require raising the Preamp levels. Thoughts?

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  7 лет назад

      I used it with the Rode VM and it worked great even on auto. You can always do a tiny bit of work in post to remove it but it sounded good to me. I should have included more footage and audio. Live and learn.

      No, the question I asked was pretty specific and I wouldn't expect it to be a review. I actually think your reviews are just about perfect. For instance, in this one you packed 28 minutes of very solid information that is incredibly useful and touches on everything that matters to me as a consumer...and it's all done in an organized fashion. As far as stabilization, do you mean for photography of video?

    • @mohitmojito
      @mohitmojito 6 лет назад

      Well I actually meant stabilization for video . Although now I'm wondering how does stabilization affect photography ? I thought stabilization is normally just connected to shooting videos.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 лет назад

      Stabilization for video is "fine" but honestly, if you plan on moving the camera at all you should be looking into 3-axis gimbals for really smooth video.
      As far as photography, if you shoot at low shutterspeeds, image stabilization is helpful. Normally companies report "x number of stops" meaning that if you turn it on, it would be like you were shooting at a faster stop.

      What features are making you consider the T7i?

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks 6 лет назад

      Tech Gear Talk Well you could probably tell me why I should get one over the other. I’ve never used a DSLR. I’m wanting a camera for my YT channel and product photography. The T7i has more AF points, if I remember right. And seems that would be better for a beginner. And the battery life is a bit better. However the lower price of the SL2 makes me want to start with that. But on the other hand it seems the T7i would be a better camera for the long run. Thank you

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 лет назад +1

      Sure, just wanted to check in with you first. The additional focus points are really the only significant difference for what you will be doing with it. The question is do you need more "off-center" focus points for what you'll be doing. For most people this is not an issue. However, in the long run, the $200 you spent extra on the body won't make a difference if the everyday use is improved.
      Are you clear on what they focus points mean and how you would use them? Let me know if not. If they are not needed, save the $.
      Both cameras will be identical for beginners. They both have feature assistant and will give you the same info. You're going to be happy with either one, so let's get you what you need.

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks 6 лет назад

      Tech Gear Talk Great. Thank you for your feedback. I was under the impression that the extra AF points would help with photos. If that’s not the case I think I could save the $200 :)

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 лет назад +1

      Ok, so the way they work is like this. If you're using the viewfinder, you can select a point on the frame (other than the center point) for the camera to focus on. That means, for example, that if the item/object in on the left side of the frame, you can have the camera focus there without having to get focus and then re-frame the shot.
      Now the question is, do you need 45 of those points? The flexibility is nice (I won't lie) but you can always use the touch screen to get focus and shoot that way. You can just tap to focus if you're using a tripod.
      Just giving you options :)

      Great! That is a perfect first lens to pick up. It's going to give you a nice focal range to work with and comes with Optical Image Stabilization.
      Once you use it for a while, you'll see if you want a wider lens, or more zoom, maybe a macro lens or a faster lens for shallower depth of field.
      Does that make sense?

    • @StoneyCreekHeritageFarm
      @StoneyCreekHeritageFarm 6 лет назад

      I like that it has the OIS feature and seems pretty versatile. It does make sense for sure. Being able to use the same body and be able to upgrade with the interchangeable lenses is a definite plus.

    Your reviews are the best. Very detailed which I like. Doesnt matter if it's 10 or 30mins, I'd watch it to the end! I am torn between the 200d and m50. If the the 200d got the built in timelapse the same as m50, this would be a no brainer. Dont care about 4k. 1080p60 is more than enough.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 лет назад

      Oh wow... thank you so much. So humbled.
      Do you mean because the 200d doesn’t have the 3 options plus the custom?

    • @GDarJuanJr
      @GDarJuanJr 6 лет назад

      Tech Gear Talk yeah. Although now that I think about it, seems like a non issue. Haha! Seems like 200d it is.
      Question - why would I get an M50 over the 200d? I dont care about 4k though. Saw from other reviews that photos can be automatically transferred thru the app even if the phone is turned off?

    • @GDarJuanJr
      @GDarJuanJr 6 лет назад

      M50 selling points over 200d:
      1. 10fps vs 5fps
      2. In body stabilization
      3. More timelapse options
      4. 4k (dont care bout this really)
      5. Eye sensor
      6. Digic 8
      anything else you can add? Can you also confirm my question regarding the app?

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 лет назад +1

      I'll have to take a look at this image transfer option, but would you really want it to automatically transfer every single image to your phone? Seems like it would fill up the phone very quickly. I can't imagine that works though because it requires you to connect to the phone. I could be wrong though.
      You have a really good list there, good work!
      I would add:
      Smaller and more portable (both camera and lenses)
      Better remote control using the app (only important if you're going to use it)
      SL2 advantages are:
      more lens options (only important if you're going to buy them)
      better lenses (only important if you're going to buy them)
      These are pretty close, and it's a matter of what's more important to you right now.
      I'll tell you what, when I travel, it's nice to throw the M50 with a tiny lens in a bag and be on my way, rather than my huge L-series Canon glass (lenses) which sort of defeat the point of having a smaller body.
      I hope this helps a little.
