I just got one a few months ago! It's my first camera. I spent about a year researching cameras before I pulled the trigger. Awesome features, specs, and price! Very happy with it!
@@jscaleb I don't know I have several I have my nifty 50 and a 50 to 200 and a 70 to 300 lens and of course the kit lens that came with it just depends on what you need to do. The most versatile one I have is the kit lens 18 to 55 mm

I’m super interested in knowing what you think - is the SL2 still a good option in 2020? What are some other reasons why it’s good, and maybe even some reasons why you don’t think it’s good. Did you like the video? Was there too much detail? Not enough? What did you like, and also, what did you not like? What would you like to see more of? Would love to know what you think, good or bad. I bought a New (USED open Box ) SL2 & 2 lens as a Christmas gift for a friend a few years ago (3), now I wanted one for myself & just bought a used SL2 & 3 lens for my very own after viewing your video( & with the your help here saved some cash from purchasing the SL3 & xtras I didnt really need but picked up the discontinued features I would use but were deleted from the SL3 along with a couple hundred bucks) this many years later along with your newer video reviews..TY cant wait for the camera & lens should be here next week THANKS AGAIN respect your advice & reviews....
I admire your work ethic and consistency, Sagi - I've been using the Sl2 for about a year now which has really helped me grow my channel from 0 to 1500 subs in one year, and I owe all my gratitude to you. I’m working everyday to get to where you are. You’re a legend man! Keep grinding and posting!
Hey brother - congratulations!!! Yes, I'll work on it. You've seen this video right? ruclips.net/video/RDs-Zzb0pmE/видео.html I'll do a setup one as well.
I love this camera and i feel i lucked out picking it. If you look at the stats its got a lot more options than others ( i would consider it a mini 90d for the most part). The size is awesome and its response time is insane, i film a lot of hunting and ive yet to miss something when having to click record all of a sudden. Keep these videos coming.
Sygi, thanks for this great video. I got my SL2 about 18 months ago and love it. It's great to hear that someone 'in the know' like you thinks it's still such a great option. I also appreciate your beginner-friendly orientation to photography here--I've been a bit slow on pursuing the knowledge I need, and you've given me a step-up and some confidence to go further.
Thanks for helping me further justify buying this little beast nearly 2 years ago. I was a complete newbie and had such a strict budget set that I had a gut ache buying it over other fixed lens cameras. However, I suspected that it’s features (ALL of which you spoke of on the video) had the 200D punching above its weight class. Now I know I was right in buying it. I’ve loved owning and using it with my 50mm 1.8 canon lens among other EF-S lenses and would also happily recommend it to anyone else who was looking for their first serious foray into interchangeable lens DSLR bodies. Thanks again for the video. You have another subscriber. 👍🏼
I love this! My scene is barbers and hairstylists who typically want a first camera so they can take better photos and videos for their instagram portfolios-- I always ALWAYS recommend the SL2 for this purpose. I used this camera for a year or so, even while also owning a 5Diii, because it was just FUN and easy to create lots of content. Occasionally I hear "but the SL3 has 4K!" or "this Sony does this this and that, that the SL2 doesn't do!" but the SL2 has every simple straightforward useful feature for taking lots of portraits, while "better" cameras typically add features that might take better photos of action, in low light, or possibly better video (although the SL3's 4K is hardly usable with the crop)... I felt like I was crazy for still recommending this camera, but I'm glad to hear others share the respect for what this thing can do.
After doing my research and watching your SL2 review a few months ago, I bought the SL2 and love it. My only problem is the 9 AF points...big concern shooting birds in flight. Even then, I still get a few fantastic images. I have since then bought better lenses and that has helped a lot. Thanks again for your great reviews and videos!
Can you not change it to prioritize just one point? I had my T2i set to the center dot and never had issues. EDIT - 8:50 he talks about it in this video
@@spacecadetrl All 9 or any single 1 point AF. The problem for me is wildlife dont always "stay put" on the chosen AF dot...but I'm getting better at keeping the center dot on them regardless of how they move.
Hi Sagi, can you comment on 200d and m100 as beginner cameras? Particularly the AF points. How many dot and cross type AF points on 200d and M100? Thanks
I cant thank you enough for your advice regarding the sl2, not only in this video, but also in your previous ones. There isnt a lot of coverage on youtube about this camera, and you filled that gap at least for me. Thank you for the advice man and keep it up.
I own a SL2 for a year now and really really enjoy it. My only regret was instead of buying 3 S mount lenses I should’ve just bought the 24 to 70 Full frame lenses. Because now I’m in the market for a used 5D Mark 2. But I’m not going to get rid of my SL2. All the best Jim from Georgia
Amazing camera! If you are on the fence thinking about buying it, just jump right into. You just cant go wrong with it. Ergonomics, autofocus, screen, lens selection and prices, all this just make it best value for money. Thank You Sygi for another great video! I love mine with 55-250 stm. Imho even better value than nifty fifty. What a great piece of glass.
I super appreciate the support and insight Michal! I like the 55-250 for the range and versatility - I like the 50 1.8 for the speed (different tools and purposes IMO). Thank you again for being part of the channel 🙏 Sagi.
Your first 200D video sold me on the camera, I purchased it a little over a year ago and have since used it thoroughly with around 50,000 photos taken. Photography is now my most active hobby and along with my kit lens I have the Canon 55-250mm and a Yongnuo 50mm. This camera has been a great platform to learn with and I have taken many photos I'm very proud of. image quality can be hit and miss at times and I still struggle with landscape photography but everything you claimed this camera to be came true and for that I thank you. Better lenses would be the solution to a lot of my problems and I look forward to owning a full frame camera however that all comes down to money. Money I don't have. For a little over $1,000 AUD I'm very happy.
That's awesome man! Great to hear that you're really using (and pushing) your 200d, and that it has been a good learning platform for you. Take your time with lenses, look for used lenses (from a reputable source!) which can be a way to find good value. I have no problem buying used lenses from B&H here in the US. Appreciate you being part of the channel!🙏
I had two SL2s. I still have one that I use for video. Great camera! I have a 5d classic, mkii and mkiii, along with an Olympic OMD EM1 mkii. The SL2 was my first really good camera IMHO. It's a great entry into hybrid shooting! Nice review. Love your stuff!
I got this camera In January. So far it's turning out to be quite amazing. The only thing I'm having trouble with is the grain starts showing up at 800 iso. But for that price, can't really argue much.
Thanks so much for this video. I've been watching so many great channels for camera reviews so I can decide what to buy. This video was the most in depth and helpful
Im new to photography and discovered your SL2 videos this morning. Thank you for your very informative and in-depth review for beginners like me. After spending 2 weeks researching, I was still confused and thought the sensible buy was a 77D or 80D for my product photography. You've educated me me and saved me a lot of money. I am now subscribed to your channel.
I've had mine for about a year and a half and I've had no issue with battery life. But I also ordered a couple of extra batteries just in case. You can find some inexpensive options on Amazon.
@@LouisLuzuka Really? I'd say 90 percent of what I use the SL2 for is video. Well, if nothing else, the SL2 would make a great secondary camera. I say you should cop it again!
@@JayFingers really! do you find that you need more batteries? I always need at least 2 to last a day, maybe 3 is perfect thank you! ill definitely keep an eye out ive been testing out the t6s and the Eos M! not as good auto focus but its nice
I bought this camera 3 years ago and sadly got lost, then I was looking for a new camera and you saved my life with that SL3 vs. SL2 video. I ended buying the SL2 again in 2020. Thanks Ross!
Got mine back in March 2018 (on the back of your G7Xii v M6 v 200D showdown) and am still loving it. There’s a lot to be said for your penultimate point about lenses; the range you have at your disposal with this camera is excellent.
So excited to see another sl2 video, thanks for the info, love your videos a lot bro, also I’ve downloaded cinestyle and I shoot in raw photos, but when I shoot the photo using raw and cinestyle and upload it to my laptop, it’s like color graded already or like back to standard picture profile, if you know a solution please let me know, nice video hope to see more sl2 videos
A definite Yes, the SL2 is just an awesome camera, it's now 2023 and I'm about to buy one. I'm not a pro shooter, I don't do sport or need fast tracking. I'm more city/landscape and close up shooter, the SL2 is going to be perfect for me, nice clear video, yeh I love watching your content. Regards Rob (UK)
I purchased my 200D (SL2) two years ago and it does everything I want. I just purchased my second G7X MarkII for backup. Love your soothing voice and great reviews and tips. Thanks again!
I have to say, this is an incredibly thorough review. Beyond helpful not only for the general information, but all the small tid-bits and extras you throw in. Thank you for this!
This is one of the best reviews I've ever seen... I hit subscribe because you're one of the most clear and concise speakers I've ever heard... honestly I think you're the best.
Always fun to see the 200d getting praised! I bought mine 2 years ago in India while backpacking. I'm still on the 200d body but I have upgraded my lenses to 1x 24-70 f 2.8 L and 1x 70-200 f 2.8. Now after 2 years I'm going to be looking to upgrade my body even though it's still giving me great pictures. I will be keeping the 200d for nostalgic reasons of what got me into photography.
I bought this camera through your review more than a year ago, I thought I made a mistake because of the m50. But you're correct, the lens selection alone more than makes up for it, I've got 3 lenses so far, and wouldn't mind staying with this body for another year or so. Great vid! Thanks for the upload!
I am planning to buy this camera too after some research as a beginner would you mind to advice me with good lens to start with for photography ? Thanks in advance ☺️😊🙏
Great value for money cameras. I think they are probably the best value for money in the whole Canon lineup - I've currently got 3 that I use to deploy a small, cheap - but decent enough quality multicam video setup. Not a great deal not to like! Small, decent enough build quality and a decent image result. Job done!
Bought the sl2 because of your video a few months ago looking to buy the 90d late this year excited for the future i appreciate what your channel has done for me
That's awesome Kyle! Glad you've liked the SL2 and that the channel has been helpful. When you get the 90D let me know how it works out (it's such a good camera!).
Thanks for this, I have been looking last several days for an entry level previous-gen DSLR with an external mic input. The SL2 made my short list, and this pretty much seals the deal.
I watched quite a few of your videos before deciding. I just pulled the trigger on the sl2 body with a canon 15-135 usm lens for $580. I’m looking forward to getting it next week. Your advice was instrumental in choosing this over the sl3. I am upgrading from my T3i which I already have 2 other lenses (18-55 & 55-250). You were right about my not needing the 4K movies too. Thanks for a very informative site! I’ll let you know what I think when it arrives.
I recently purchased the slr 2 because of your in depth reviews on it. I must say I am very pleased with the camera so far! It's so beginner friendly ! thanks for your videos!! it inspired me!!
I bought it yesterday as my first DSLR for my RUclips channel. I got a great deal for it because I bought it used. It will be used along with my Canon camcorder and DJI Osmo Action.
CONGRATS!!! SL2 + Osmo Action is a great setup. Now you have action and more controlled shooting covered. Let me know how it works out for you. Thanks for being part of the channel!
On black friday last year I bought a T7i with an ef-s 35mm f2.8 IS macro for macro photography. I love it. It also has 24p but has 45 focus points evf and side door for card. My canon a95 is 16 years old and still works so there durable cameras. Tech Gear Talk has excellent quality and content videos.
Great video. The SL2, IMO opinion, is the best starter DSLR for photo and video. The 90D is the best mid-range DSLR for photo (Canon needs to bring back ALL-I compression for video). I've moved on from the 80D to the Sony A7III for video and A7RIII for photo, but still keep the 90D just for fun.
I got a bargain 200D for $100 AU. It came with a standard 18-55 kit lens, a gorilla mini tripod and camera bag. I then bought a 50mm 1.8 STM for $75 AU, and a Røde VideoMic Pro plus for $200 AU. For $375 AU, I have a fantastic setup for photography and vlogging. You can get great bargains, if you hunt around. My setup is incredible, for a bargain basement price.
Tech Gear Talk, I was so excited when I saw the price. I thought “There has to be a catch”. Facebook Marketplace has some wonderful bargains. You just have to be patient, and eventually a bargain will turn up.
Your earlier SL2 video is the reason that got me into videography and buying this amazing camera half years ago! This has been my go to camera for everything and I’m already getting several client’s video done using this camera, I will probably need to start looking into 4K but no rush at the moment.
Amazing work my friend!!! Proud of you for putting in the work!!! When you're ready for 4K, if you want to stick with DSLR, this is the way to go: ruclips.net/video/rg1dqcjDpSo/видео.html (but definitely don't rush it)
I upgraded to this camera from my iPhone 7 Plus for products photography a few months back. I also got a 50mm 1.8f lens and I’m super happy with the results! Excellent piece of gear!
Tech Gear Talk Just now I remember that before I bought it I watched several of your videos on the matter. You helped me a ton in the decision. Thank you!
Bought one last black friday to use for my wife's cooking channel. I am learning a lot using this thing and am really loving it. It came with 3 lenses for $650 but the kit lens has been the most useful for kitchen video. I only wish the mic jack was in a different place as it interferes with the touch screen in some orientations. On a normal tripod it is not an issue though.
Your videos have been a great help when researching for a new camera. Truly. I've been out of the camera game for a long.... long time. My job doesn't really need it. I'm an illustrator by trade -- so the need of a camera hasn't been on the frontlines, but I grew up around cameras in general and I have an honest love of photography and film -- So, as I said - your videos have been a great help when looking for a new camera that has all the bits I need for photography and ( Film ) video. I purchased the SL2. Didn't disappoint. The lack of 46 or so focus points is a feature that would be nice on the camera, but not necessary. I do wish it was full-frame, but.... aside from that one point. I love this camera. Thank you for guiding me to the Canon SL2.
Appreciate you taking the time to share some of your story Braxton. I’m glad you got a camera that you love and happy that the videos were helpful. Thank you for being part of the channel.
Great video! I made my first 2 videos on RUclips with a iPhone 8. Then I purchased the SL2, amazing camera. I just upgraded to a EOS R. My wife is starting her new channel with the SL2. I really enjoy your channel, full of very helpful informacion. Thank you 😊
That's great to hear Craig (both for you and her). I hope to be able to get an EOS R at some point as well. It's such an amazing camera. I need to start a GoFundMe page 😂🤣 Which lens/es are you suing with the R?
Tech Gear Talk, The SL2 with kit Lens and EOS R also kit lens 24-105. But I’m looking for a wide angle lens to compensate for 4K crop. Which lens do you recommend?
That's definitely an option if you want to go with EF lenses. If the F/4 works for you with the 24-105, then you can get the EF 18-35 f/4 for 1k right now! bhpho.to/3c3lt5z
A huge thanks to you for your vids about the sl2. Because of your channel and other in-depth research i made, i choose the sl2 to be my first camera :) i got it with a kit lens but right after i bought canon 50mm f1,8 and i dont regret any euro spending on it. Keep up the excellent work ;)
I love this little camera. I shoot Real Estate using this and a Canon 10-22. I started with a T2i, and when it finally died I replaced it with the SL2, which had just come out. Every time I consider "upgrading" I just can't justify the cost. I don't see where any of the APS-C cameras that Canon offers can give much better results than what I get with this little workhorse, at least for how I use it.
@@TechGearTalk BTW, loved your review of the 90D...I ALMOST pulled the trigger after watching, I'm still on the fence. If I pull the trigger I'll be sure to use your affiliate link!
Hi. I got the SL2 as my first DSLR although had SLRs before so it was just a case of updating to the digital side of things. Very impressed for the price but now considering the 90d. With all things, paying double doesn't get you double but for me, I want just a bit more. Value for money I would rate the SL2 number one.
I got this camera a couple years ago it was a great camera for the price I kinda regret selling it. Only reason I upgraded was because I got more serious and needed something a little more professional. Miss that little guy. I remember your first video on this camera around the time you started your YT channel. Keep up the dope work man!
@@TechGearTalk I actually watched your video to get familiar with my camera. Soon after I quit my FT job and now I have a small production company and just started my wedding film business. Pretty crazy what can happen in such a short time. Glad to see you are still killing it! Thanks for getting me started big man!
I have the 200D as it’s called here in the UK was my first camera I agree everything you have said it’s a great easy to use camera with the added bonus I have found great battery life. Really in all the camera I have I think this is def top of my list. Thanks for the great video. 😉
Been thinking about buying a cam for photos and videos but I didn’t really wanted to buy something mediocre because I want to create great content and quality is key for me but if I wait until I have the “budget” I’ll never start. I saw this cam at Walmart and it did caught my attention because of the specifications. Plus, I don’t have to spend LOTS of money on lenses because I can borrow lenses from my uncle and he has AMAZING canon lenses I can use. I’m so excited, thank you so much! Deff subscribed and liked your video.
As you wisely said, you’ve been using and trying cameras for awhile now, so you’ve got a very good reputation and your community trusts your word and, I’m very happy to be one of them. The 200d (how we call it in Europe) is still a great camera with many options and pros. Price, quality, size and weight, you named it 😄. Thank you for al your advice. Great blue T-shirt with the background 👍 (didn’t know they removed the 24p from the sl3!) What’s your boy’s name? (That handsome bulldog) 😃 Thumbs up for you. Keep rocking my friend
Thanks brother. The boxer's name was Macie (she died of cancer earlier this year, right before our other dog died... rough month). Now we rescued 2 new dogs so we're back to 2! 👊
Great video, as usual, so thanks. Very clear and organized; you're a very good speaker. I own the fantastic SL2 -- so easy to use and great performance. With the nifty fifty EF lens mounted, the 1.6 crop makes it a nice portrait set up. Look forward to more videos.
i bought this camera because of your review of it. i bought mine last year and i love it. I'm finally about to get a 50mm stm and learn even more. thank you for that video by the way.
Running the SL3 and have been practicing up for the last few months. I've been very pleased. Canon has a fantastic range of high quality cheap EFS lenses. I recommend getting a 10-18, 55-250, and a 50mm 1.8 If you feel a bit more baller and want a fantastic upgrade, pick up an EFS 17-55mm 2.8. They can be found in brand new condition for under 500 bucks. Absolutely a worthwhile upgrade if you get a bit more serious.
Also worth noting. The godox X2T remote trigger is a fantastic device that you can use on plenty of cheap flashes. But perhaps more importantly, it has a passthrough hotshoe with a center pin that will allow you to regain that feature on cameras like the SL3. They go for about 60 bucks.
Wow, I really appreciate all of this valuable info! Quick question about the X2T - have you tested it with the SL3 after the firmware update? Is it compatible? I know they left it off the list to begin with but that may have been an oversight! Thanks!
My godox is on the stock firmware because their updater software wasnt working on my computer. My SL3 is on 1.0.1. The only other option is 1.0.2 and thats just a minor security patch so i doubt it would have any impact, and I havent bothered updating. I can try when i get home though. Yes, removing the center pin was a stupid move from canon, but if you want to seriously use flash you probably would want a remote trigger as well, and when theres a cheap option that completely fixes the issue, it's a shame that still everyone you talk to these days still believes that your only option with this camera is canon flashes. I found a random video on this combo with like 70 views and took the chance. Bought the x2t and a cheap godox manual flash. Firing from the hotshoe and wirelessly both worked flawlessly.
@@TechGearTalk give it a shot. AFAIK the x2t is their latest and greatest trigger and came out around the time canon started doing this. Godox announced shortly after it would be supported in a firmware update. I don't know what devices that applies to but i know for sure that x2t worked for me with no hassle out of the box. Hell the subject might even be worth a short video. Everyone just kind of accepted canons cripple hammer and moved on, it would be nice to help people understand that it is an issue easily worked around.
I used to have a Canon 70 D but lost it. I have been shooting my RUclips videos with my GoPro Hero 8 and am about to take the plunge back into Canon Cameras. With so much of the industry shifting to mirror-less cameras it is giving me second thoughts about purchasing the 90 D.... So I started looking at cheaper options so I won't feel so bad... lol That's how I found your video. Great job.. You have a new subscriber here.. All my best.
I took on my photography interest with this camera as a first and I am confident enough to say I invested my money well. I've managed to get a couple of satisfactory night photography with stars along with detailed foreground. With a 50mm 1.8 lens I've managed to push the camera to capture images that look like macro images(with lightroom touch ups of course). I am currently pondering on upgrading to a full frame body, however looking at the current(200d) specs and other bodies on the enthusiast level, this camera has proven worthwhile until I've saved up and ironed out my skills to afford the *cough* 5DmkIV *cough*. Highly recommend, will definitely encourage you to push this body to its limit, and it will pay off.
Had my SL2 for around a year now (watched all of your SL2 content which helped me decide to buy it), it really is a fantastic starter camera but one which can produce image quality (for both stills & video) that goes beyond what most people would consider starter camera quality, it is as capable as it is versatile & I still carry it in my camera bag alongside the Canon EOS RP I've recently bought so that I could have a full frame mirrorless option alongside an APS-C DSLR, it means I can still utilise all of my APS-C & full frame glass across both camera bodies 👍
I'm still using the SL1 in 2020! I want to upgrade and really "need" an articulating screen but as you and so many others suggest, I've been saving my monies investing in glass. I like the size of the SL2 and it retains the center hotshoe pin (vital for me) , but the SD card location is frustrating at times on the SL1 (same location as the SL2). For me, the 90D would probably be a good next move. ...may keep the SL1 for a 2-camera set-up when I reach that level. THANKS--your content is exceptional. Be well.
So glad it was helpful James. Here is a comparison if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/MKwAWWyv9vU/видео.html Thanks for being part of the channel.
CONGRATS!!! (Thanks for the kind words). If you'll use it for video, make sure to watch: ruclips.net/video/Hj_QrxcsXYg/видео.html (I am finishing up part 2)
I bought this camera in 2018. The M50 replaced it use wise but for video I like to have a 2nd body and this camera is fast, responsible and IQ is very good. Since 10 years I wanted to buy a 5D series camera but I had the problem to justify such a heavy investment (and yes, the money is there) because the question: Do I use it often enough and is it really better than APS-C. And now I am glad that I bought in the lower price region of Canon because all their cameras are well suited for manual use and I have always invested in good lenses. Lenses make the images! Lenses stay, bodies go!
Great video, new subscriber here. Just happened across an ex display 200D with the kit lens for £100 and snapped it up last week. It’s my first Canon DSLR after years of Nikons and I love how well laid out and light it is. Bargain of the year.
Just remember that it has no clean HDMI out so you'll need to do something like this: ruclips.net/video/w25dRpbM08w/видео.html or use manual focus when streaming. Otherwise, the SL3 would work better for that.
Good breakdown, especially for the newbies/semi-new folks. I still swap between my SL2 and 90D, depending on my needs. The SL2 slow-mo vid I did recently shows how useful the SL2 can be in normal, daily use. Basic, yet versatile! I wonder what a possible SL4 would be like 🤔
Right? And they’ll have to put that pin back on the hotshoe and 24fps back in 1080p. I sold my SL3 after a year when I decided the SL2 was a less hindered camera.
i was searching for reviews online since i'm planning to finally buy my first camera. i'm glad i found your channel. most of the malls here in Philippines don't sell the 200d anymore, but i found a shop online that sells it at around $490 with kit lens. i should've just bought the body and the 50 mm f/1.8 stm lens, but i like the kit lens nonetheless. will be saving for the 50mm soon.
I own mine for over a year, bought it with kit for 400€. I'm happy in almost every way, the only thing is I got into wide angle astrophotography and the 200D is probably the worst for that...
Nice! Why do you say that the 200d is probably the worst for that? Where are you feeling limited? What lens are you using? What aperture do you end up shooting at?
@@TechGearTalk Yeah it's mostly the lens selection, but ISO performance and the 1.6x crop really don't help either. I'm currently still stuck on my kit lens for wide-angle at f4 and ISO 6400 and 15s. With stacking you can get somewhat decent detail. I'm looking to upgrade, but except for a pretty soft Samyang 10/2.8 there doesn't seem to be anything. Laowa makes a decent 9/2.8 but that's out of my price range. For mirrorless there is the pretty sharp Samyang 12/2.0, so I'm thinking of buying an a6000 or something, which is also much better in lowlight. And of course there is full frame with all kinds of options, but that's also too expensive for me. To be clear, I love the camera otherwise, also the lens selection. On no other system you can get a camera, kit, 50/1.8 and 55-250 for under 600€.
Bought mine w/ the kit lens because of watching your videos and your help. I'm still exploring the camera with the standard kit lens. can't wait to get another lens! thanks again
@@TechGearTalk I absolutely love it, I knew it was the right camera just from watching your videos, which I still do for reference and furthering my knowledge. You make very enjoyable. In regards to a lens - I'm not entirely too sure at this point, I have a very long Amazon wish list. I do have my eye on the Sigma 4301954 30mm f/1.4 Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 and theres a few others :) there is some more research and saving up to do haha. thanks again, you're a champion!
Your reviews are detailed and easy for beginners to understand. I've learnt a lot about cameras here. Hopefully, I should buy my camera before the last quarter of the year.
This little camera is a gem that rocks! I recently bought the Canon 10-20mm, which along with the SL2, produces tack sharp images with great contrast. The results from this camera are professional quality , ideal for any beginning photographer or the serious hobbyist. Thank you so much for this great vid! By the way, I never knew how your name is spelt, is it Ziggy? 😬😅
I like the parts of the video where you speak more to your personal opinions rather than just talking specs. Most reviews just talk specs and they’re kinda useless after watching one.
Tech Gear Talk Right? I totally agree. I upgraded to the EOS R. Fell in love with mirrorless cams but I still own the SL2 and use it constantly as a second cam & for live-streaming. It’s solid.
The EOS R is amazing. It really got a bad rep when it came out, but I think people were just parroting without actually using it. Do you use manual focus with the SL2? or SparkoCam (for streaming).
That's great to know! I got the R recently and I'm still playing around with it but so far I'm loving the picture quality. Massive difference. I use the manual focus on the SL2 because like you, I'm not moving a ton in my live streams so it's never been an issue BUT after watching your tutorial on the SparkoCam I'm going to try that out too. Anything to keep the AF. 😂
You end up losing some resolution so if the MF is working for you, you might end up sticking with it. Honestly, if you use it a lot, sell it and pick up an SL3 which has a clean HDMI out so you get AF when you stream (just my 2c)
Totally agree with your comment that you should invest in lenses as bodies come and go every couple of years. If you spend as much as you can afford on lenses then they will outlast several camera body upgrades. Great video as always.
I have the SL3. Thanks to the videos that you made comparing the two. There is only one complaint that I have: I cannot find on board how to lower the the internal sound to take away some of the white noise when installing mics.
Ok, do this: (be in video mode) MENU->SHOOT 1 (camera icon)->SOUND RECORDING->change the first option from automatic to MANUAL, then you can go down to REC LEVEL and change your gain. Does that make sense?
I appreciate you looking at beginner camera's in such detail.👍
Super glad I could help!
What's the model number on the Canon eos sl 200D ?

This camera is very good option in 2020. I am using it with sigma 18-35 f1.8
COMPLETELY agree! And that is my favorite lens!
Thats very cool 👍
i will now use that lens - maybe for both sl2 and 450d
Nabeel, how do you like that lens? I have seen discussions about poor autofocus performance. The lens specifications definitely look good.
That camera got me subbed to this channel, I didn’t end up buying any camera but at least now I have a decent idea about cameras
I appreciate you being part of the channel all this time 🙏 thanks for the support! 👊
For me it was the M50 reviews 😂
I have that next video coming!

I just got one a few months ago! It's my first camera. I spent about a year researching cameras before I pulled the trigger. Awesome features, specs, and price! Very happy with it!
Awesome to hear that you love it Joey! Appreciate you watching and taking the time to share your experience 👊
I have an SL2 and I bought it in 2019 I love it very much and I use it every day. It's a good Camera.
That's awesome Andy! So glad you love it - appreciate you sharing.
I have the 200D as well, with a handful of lenses. I am an amateur photographer and absolutely love this camera. :)
That's awesome to hear!
What lens do you think is good ?
@@jscaleb I don't know I have several I have my nifty 50 and a 50 to 200 and a 70 to 300 lens and of course the kit lens that came with it just depends on what you need to do. The most versatile one I have is the kit lens 18 to 55 mm

Yeah, I still have my Canon D30, 5D, 5D Mk II, etc. too. But as a Nikonian for over four decades, I preferred my Nikon D3 instead. 😊
I loved my D3!!!

Would you be able to create a video on the best settings for video and photography with the SL2, thanks!
That's awesome to hear Aaron! Thanks for being part of the channel and for all the support!
Super glad to hear that you live the sl2 and that my approach has been helpful. Grateful to have you as part of the community Norman 🙏🏻 Sagi
Yup, everything he said 💯
Thanks for being part of the channel Andrew 👊
After doing my research and watching your SL2 review a few months ago, I bought the SL2 and love it. My only problem is the 9 AF points...big concern shooting birds in flight. Even then, I still get a few fantastic images. I have since then bought better lenses and that has helped a lot. Thanks again for your great reviews and videos!
Good work investing in lenses John. Glad it's working for you and I hope you're enjoying the hobby!
You're very welcome my friend - thank you for your support!
Love my Sl2 with 50mm 1.8
Such a good combo!
Yes!!! Same!!
Hi Jim. That makes sense. The EF-S lenses are more affordable so I think most people start there. That 24-70 is a fantastic lens!
I totally get it Robert. I have the 5DMKII and III and I use my SL2 more, lol.
I got this camera In January. So far it's turning out to be quite amazing. The only thing I'm having trouble with is the grain starts showing up at 800 iso. But for that price, can't really argue much.

Hi there and thank you for sharing. See if today's video helps you upgrade :)
I bought this camera through your review more than a year ago, I thought I made a mistake because of the m50. But you're correct, the lens selection alone more than makes up for it, I've got 3 lenses so far, and wouldn't mind staying with this body for another year or so. Great vid! Thanks for the upload!
So glad you're happy with the SL2 and that my videos were helpful! Thank you for being part of the community!
Job done!
I think you nailed it Russ. Very capable little guys for the price.
So glad I could help Nathan! Thanks for being part of the channel!

Excellent review. An eloquent and knowledgeable gentleman. Best wishes from England.
I agree! Wow, you have a really nice setup!
Got It In 2018. Its a beast for its price ❤️❤️❤️
Good work!

So glad you love it Liam! I totally know what you mean about the mic. I use a 90 right out of the camera but I completely get it.

That's great to hear Craig (both for you and her). I hope to be able to get an EOS R at some point as well. It's such an amazing camera. I need to start a GoFundMe page 😂🤣
Which lens/es are you suing with the R?
Tech Gear Talk, The SL2 with kit Lens and EOS R also kit lens 24-105. But I’m looking for a wide angle lens to compensate for 4K crop. Which lens do you recommend?
The 15-35 is the only option right now. It’s a great lens and you’ll use forever
Tech Gear Talk what about using an adapter and using a more affordable lens?
That's definitely an option if you want to go with EF lenses. If the F/4 works for you with the 24-105, then you can get the EF 18-35 f/4 for 1k right now! bhpho.to/3c3lt5z
A huge thanks to you for your vids about the sl2. Because of your channel and other in-depth research i made, i choose the sl2 to be my first camera :) i got it with a kit lens but right after i bought canon 50mm f1,8 and i dont regret any euro spending on it. Keep up the excellent work ;)
You are very welcome my friend! Glad you got it and that you like it! Good move getting the kit lens and the 50 1.8!
It's so important to have that perspective. All you need is a tool that works for you! Keep on crushing it!

Hi. I got the SL2 as my first DSLR although had SLRs before so it was just a case of updating to the digital side of things. Very impressed for the price but now considering the 90d. With all things, paying double doesn't get you double but for me, I want just a bit more. Value for money I would rate the SL2 number one.

Tech Gear Talk Oh man, sorry to hear that!!! Think I forgot
All good 👍🏻
One of the best affordable camera around.
Thank you for the helpful information
Great video, as usual, so thanks. Very clear and organized; you're a very good speaker. I own the fantastic SL2 -- so easy to use and great performance. With the nifty fifty EF lens mounted, the 1.6 crop makes it a nice portrait set up. Look forward to more videos.
i bought this camera because of your review of it. i bought mine last year and i love it. I'm finally about to get a 50mm stm and learn even more. thank you for that video by the way.
Awesome to hear that you love it! Let me know what you think when you get that 50 1.8 in your hands!
Running the SL3 and have been practicing up for the last few months. I've been very pleased. Canon has a fantastic range of high quality cheap EFS lenses. I recommend getting a 10-18, 55-250, and a 50mm 1.8
If you feel a bit more baller and want a fantastic upgrade, pick up an EFS 17-55mm 2.8.
Interesting. My Godox Xpro-C does not fire on my SL3. I need to upgrade the firmware and see.
Great review Sagi. Sl2 is a super camera and spot on for the beginner affording all the useful shortcuts and automatic settings. Take care. Ray
Thanks so much Ray! I totally agree with you!
@@TechGearTalk You're welcome. An still loving that subscribe graphic. :0)
Check IG!
I've doubted between 200D, M5 and M50, but after your video i will choose 200D. Thanks man!
Glad the video was helpful my friend! Appreciate you being part of the community 👊
Thank you so much for sharing your journey Joseph and welcome to the channel! Glad the video was helpful and thank you for the kind words.
@@TechGearTalk You are most welcome... Be ready for some questions once I get my new 90 D.. lol
That 90D is so good :) Feel free to ask and thank you for supporting the channel!
OK I’LL PULL THE TRIGGER REALLY SOON! The next video about the kit lenses will be the final decision!
You got it!
Appreciate the insight into your process Gareth - thanks!!!
@@TechGearTalk I like that the RP can shoot in APS-C mode too if I want a little extra focal length without having to swap the lens onto the SL2
Nice call!!
Be well.
Thank you for the kind words. That 90D is so good! ruclips.net/video/rg1dqcjDpSo/видео.html
I bought for this little beast Canon 50mm and Sigma 1.4 ART and I love it so much
Nice! CONGRATS!!!
Was having a difficult time deciding between the SL2, SL3, and M50. This video has helped a lot. Thank you!
So glad it was helpful James. Here is a comparison if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/MKwAWWyv9vU/видео.html Thanks for being part of the channel.
@@TechGearTalk I like the features of the SL2 better than the SL3, but I decided to go with the M50. Love your videos.
CONGRATS!!! (Thanks for the kind words). If you'll use it for video, make sure to watch: ruclips.net/video/Hj_QrxcsXYg/видео.html (I am finishing up part 2)
@@TechGearTalk Thank you!
👊
I bought this camera in 2018. The M50 replaced it use wise but for video I like to have a 2nd body and this camera is fast, responsible and IQ is very good.
Since 10 years I wanted to buy a 5D series camera but I had the problem to justify such a heavy investment (and yes, the money is there) because the question: Do I use it often enough and is it really better than APS-C.
And now I am glad that I bought in the lower price region of Canon because all their cameras are well suited for manual use and I have always invested in good lenses. Lenses make the images! Lenses stay, bodies go!
You said it just right! 👊 Appreciate you sharing your journey and insight. Thanks for being part of the channel!
Great video, new subscriber here. Just happened across an ex display 200D with the kit lens for £100 and snapped it up last week. It’s my first Canon DSLR after years of Nikons and I love how well laid out and light it is. Bargain of the year.
That is an absolute steal Jonathan - congrats!! Thank you for the kind words and welcome to the channel!
This camera is also phenomenal for streaming and content creation all around. Im definitely considering this as my next camera.
I wonder what a possible SL4 would be like 🤔
Thanks so much Bob. 2 great cameras! SL4 would be great if there was no crop and there was dpaf in 4k.
Right? And they’ll have to put that pin back on the hotshoe and 24fps back in 1080p. I sold my SL3 after a year when I decided the SL2 was a less hindered camera.
As long as they keep the clean hdmi output and the eye detection for video 👍
debated between this and 200d II, but bought the 200d last month because of your reviews. thanks for the info. i love the camera
Glad the videos were helpful and that you love the camera!!! CONGRATS Ian!
i was searching for reviews online since i'm planning to finally buy my first camera. i'm glad i found your channel. most of the malls here in Philippines don't sell the 200d anymore, but i found a shop online that sells it at around $490 with kit lens. i should've just bought the body and the 50 mm f/1.8 stm lens, but i like the kit lens nonetheless. will be saving for the 50mm soon.
I always recommend getting the kit lens because: ruclips.net/video/z-x-d-K9Jfw/видео.html
That makes a lot of sense! Thanks for sharing.
I just ordered an SL2 today! Can't wait to receive it 😍
CONGRATS!!! Let me know how it works out when you get it.
I got the SL2 last year because of your great explanation. Thanks :)
So glad to hear it - hope it's working out well or you!
Bought mine w/ the kit lens because of watching your videos and your help. I'm still exploring the camera with the standard kit lens. can't wait to get another lens! thanks again
Hope you like it! Which lenses are you considering?
@@TechGearTalk I absolutely love it, I knew it was the right camera just from watching your videos, which I still do for reference and furthering my knowledge. You make very enjoyable. In regards to a lens - I'm not entirely too sure at this point, I have a very long Amazon wish list. I do have my eye on the
Sigma 4301954 30mm f/1.4
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6
and theres a few others :) there is some more research and saving up to do haha.
thanks again, you're a champion!
Appreciate you taking the time to share and for your kind words! Thanks for being part of the channel!
Your reviews are detailed and easy for beginners to understand. I've learnt a lot about cameras here.
Hopefully, I should buy my camera before the last quarter of the year.
That is wonderful to hear - so glad they are helpful. Thank you for being part of the channel. 🙏
I totally agree Jose - this camera is underrated. Appreciate the support - Sagi.
I just bought one for the brilliant price of 450usd. Very happy with my purchase! Thank you for the quick review!
I have this camera and I love it, I'm using it with a Godox V860iii flash and the photo result is great...
Just bought a Sl2 for $420.00. Really excited to learn how to get good shots and great video.
Awesome deal! CONGRATS!!!
Is it good for landscape photography,,, suggest appropriate lense too for the purpose, please.
I like the parts of the video where you speak more to your personal opinions rather than just talking specs. Most reviews just talk specs and they’re kinda useless after watching one.
That's super valuable input Kevin - thank you 🙏
Awesome video! The SL2 was my first DSLR and even though I’ve upgraded, it still has a special place in my heart. It shoots beautiful video.
Thanks for the kind words Kimberly. It's SUCH a good first DSLR - what did you upgrade to?
Tech Gear Talk thank you immensely!! I will try that when I get home! That is a huuuge help!
You're very welcome - it will make a BIG difference.
Tech Gear Talk, hey-I just got around to adjusting the menu...unfortunately it only has a “On or off”option under sound recording.
Tech Gear Talk actually! I take it back-the option to customize is just only available under certain video settings...kinda weird.
