- Today we're visiting the 2021 MGIA Snow Expo over here in Novi MI, looking at all the latest and greatest in snow plow equipment. While we were there, I learned a ton from the seminars and even reconsidered some equipment out on the show floor for our plow setup.
If you guys haven't been to a local lawn or snow show, you're totally missing out. There's always something to do, someone to network with, and a nugget or two of business wisdom you can learn from. I put myself out there to go to the show, and surprisingly was rewarded with a bunch of takeaways.
Thanks again to MGIA for a great snow show!
Check out the giveaway from Troy Clogg here, and if you can, buy a few tickets! It goes to providing financial relief to families in need that we're devastated by cancer, so it's a great raffle to invest in!

That. Raffle will end on my birthday which is October 8th
Hey Brian. I will be starting my own lawn business next year. I'm glad I found your channel. I have a 2008 52" exmark lazer z hp with the vac system and a 2020 52" staris s series. Have the echo weed wackers and the new big shindaiwa back pack blowers. I just bought a 2006 Ford f150 xlt only had 76000 miles. I bought a lark enclosed trailer as well. Do you have any good ideas on how to charge now that gas prices are really going up? I'm new and I really don't want to shoot my toes off when I start trying to price yards. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 🙏. I'm from Ohio so we only got about 8 months of mowing if lucky and 2 months of leaf season. I'm not gonna be able to do snow this year, I don't have money to buy the equipment this year 😫. I'm 34 and I've been working for people all my life and not getting anywhere. So I took a jump. If you have anything you could share with me I'd appreciate it. I will be going through all your videos and great full for them! Hope your doing well through all the trouble with the carona virus, Be Safe!
Hey Brian my names Rob I'm the Owner of Above and Beyond Lawn and Landscape in a small town in Idaho. I've been running the business for a couple years now and thinking about getting snow removal/commercial plowing into the mix. If u don't mind me asking what should I charge for like a jack in the box parking lot? Thanks bud been watching your videos since 30,000 views keep up the good work
I run boss on all my stuff except my end loader. Never had issues.
Nicely done, putting yourself out there and learning and growing!
Where can I find out about these shows and the different vendors?
I'm actually considering a V plow now as I'm curious how it would perform backdragging some of the odd shaped driveways I do. Having the ability to angle one wing back might be helpful at times.
I’m 15 and do 20 lawns on my quad and I have a straight blade plow on it and I love using it for residential jobs and being contracted out for sidewalks along buildings
Great video. I am new to snow removal and I will be learning how to plow this year.
That's awesome pal. Check out our snow resources on Lawntrepreneur Academy, they could really help you out. Rock on!
Great vid like always
Used a Fisher ( Western equivalent) expandable Plow all last season. It was great!
They do a great job catching and carrying snow .
If the V Plows are like a Swiss army knife, the expandable straight blades are the clean sweepers and time savers . ❄
Once there's more than a couple inches it's sooo much nicer to carry snow than windrow it yes.
We are just getting into snow plowing and got a 8ft Polly western unimount, and a 16 ft short iron back blade. We are on th west side of Michigan and these back blades are taking over my area.
Great video Brain, my city has strobes built into their enclosed trailer! Those Avant compact loaders are awesome, I drove one once and they are a blast but very expensive!
Dang that’s pretty cool!
Thank you for the video Brian.
that was actually alot to know and looked really nice
All trailers need to have strobes. Enclosed and utility
I love the equipment, thanks for the great video. Right now it's raining in Sterling Heights... no surprise, lol
So sick dude !!
Site one is the bomb
Some much cool stuff to look at but that upgrades Sure-Trac trailer is sweet especially with that strobe light set up....safety first!
I love your videos what your option on plowing with a 1/2 ton just for a season or two just to make sure it's for you
I'd honestly just go with a 3/4 ton. A half ton frame isn't designed for the rigors of snow plowing.
I agree for long term a 3/4 ton is the way to go Just for a season or two you can do it on a half ton as long as you don't push too hard and use the right sized plow. You'd want the truck to be in good shape though.
We use are power wing expanding backblades 80% of the time. The amount of snow that you can carry with those things are impressive, just don't get to much or you might get stuck, but that's we got an hla snowwing for that kind of stuff. Hopefully going to have a better winter up in Grand Rapids.
Ethan how long have you ran the back pull plows ? How much does it speed up your production
@@kevincloonan9787 My family company has been running them since the 1970's. We made some for our trucks back then. I believe backblades first started in Michigan or Wisconsin they have always been pretty popular in my area. Surprised to see some people have never heard of them. The expanding wing blades we have had for around 7 years now. We can carry a lot more snow with one of our powerwing's 8' with 2' sides then with our front plows, we run boss dxt 8'2" front v blades. We find that it is alot quicker on clearing out parking spaces, we just back in pull it out all the way to the pile driving fowards. Often time I personally find my self using my backblade more then my front blade. We love them and it would take a lot longer with out them.
That trailer is awesome 👏, can I get a 8.5 x 20
How u gone plow when u have the trailer this winter with the toro grandstands
That we haven't figured out yet.. Still working it. Ha
Are you going to be at GIE + EXPO?
Its the "waddup doe" @ 2:47 for me lol...thats how Detroiters greet each other 💪🏾
You need to talk to Dirtmonkey about the Boss Drag Pro 180Z. He runs one as well as an older version. He loves the back blades especially for residentials where you can back up to a garage door, put the blade down, then drive forward towards the street and a couple or few passes like that, you'll have the driveway done. I commend you for putting yourself out there to learn more, in the end it's your customers who will win since you will have more to offer them. Thanks for another great video!
Thank you!
I got 2 of the 180z and ordered 3 more. Had an issue with one of them after 3 weeks boss got it fixed. If you want a boss plow for a utv I have one I will be getting rid of and will be going to Michigan in November to get more plows
I have a 2007 Suzuki Eiger 400 4x4 since new. I put a snow plow on it with a electric winch and manual angling. I can plow my 600 feet of driveways in 15 to 20 minutes. Best investment ever. I would like power directional tilt.
I have a Fisher XLS which is the same as the wide out and it is phenomenal at pulling snow away from sidewalks and curbs and you can angle the plow and take a full blade of snow with no spillover. The downside is it does a poor job of stacking snow, it blocks the transmission cooler on my 2018 Chevy so the transmission doesn't cool down very much going down the road, and it's a bear to plow up steep driveways.
The issue with the XLS is the A frame lift stops on the head gear. The wideout from western doesn’t have them, allowing the wideout to stack higher
Could you mount it higher up on the radiator? Do you have a leveling kit installed to raise the front end of the truck a couple inches? That helps.
@@jamesnm21 I am running a mason dump so I don't want to run a leveling kit, but even if I did I'd have to go down the road with the plow skimming the road for any airflow to the tranny cooler. My 01 2500 Duramax have this issue like my 2018.
@@ethanwilliams1825 don't know if it's worth it but you can get trans coolers with their own fan that mount under the bed of the truck or wherever you'd like to put it. I also don't plow uphill anymore unless I have to.
u can move a lot more snow with a drag plow and there much better for houses
Need to get a plow on foreman Robs truck!
Or a new truck!
HI BRIAN THIS MICHAEL BEHRLE FROM ST.ANN,MO.I WATCH ALL YOUR VIDES AND CAN YOU LET ME KNOW WHEN THE NEXT SNOW SHOW WILL BE I WOULD LOVE TO GO AND SEE SOME THE ITEMS
Watching snow plow videos, too hahaha thanks for tips and trimmer vid
Pick me, haha
Okay I’m late who won
We did lol
Hey young man what is the web site for boss
Google Boss Plow
Is it too late to start advertising for snow? I have been trying to feel it out, I only have an F150 so not an ideal plow rig, but for enough driveways to pay for the plow and make a little, I’m in. Shouldn’t beat her up too bad.
Heck no, now is a great time
1st!
The new Chev is blah in my opinion, you can’t see a thing and the IFS will fall apart so fast it’s not even funny. If you’re getting a work truck, get a Ford. End of story
I’ve been plowing with a 2001 Silverado HD since I bought the truck brand new… I also sell Chevy commercial for a living… We do not have any trouble with IFS on snow plow equipped trucks. The suspension components on Ford’s solid front axle wear out just as fast as anybody else’s product.
My Chevy ate two fords for breakfast today.
I run my 2005 Chevy.
I like Chevy.
There's differing opinions/experiences on the Chevy IFS for plowing. Guys who've run all 3, Ram Chevy and Ford will tell you they all will require a front end rebuild sooner or later.
Don’t buy the back drag ur better getting in salt game
why do you own one ?
