Thank you for the great video . I'm cutting a fuelpump trap door for my 2001 Firebird Convertible tomorrow . A local shop here said they would drop the tank for $200 , (which isn't bad ). I told them I changed my mind and was going to cut a trap door myself . And then I was told alot of negativity by them . I told them I'm going to do it anyway. They did say they would cut the trap door for $200 (Smh ,like I'm really going to pay someone $200 , to do a 2 minutes job as this ). Again , thank for the great video. You also have a nice Trans-Am . Best Regards
Thank you so much, unfortunately thats one of my first videos though and the quality of the camera i used wasnt good at all, but i really hope it helps u out and yea trap doors have made changing fuel pumps so much easier. But yea 200 definately wasnt too bad for all the work involved in dropping tank lol. Yea just be careful and take ur time and good luck hope all turns out great.

The original connectors had a problem where the connector would melt and cause a connection malfunction...so the design of the connector changed to a different style connector to solve that problem..but u would have to cut and splice the wires to the new one.
Unfortunately its different for a 1993-1998..i can send u a link to a write up that could give u the dimensions of where ud wanna cut for ur year vehicle.
Well the reason for that is that the block design connection on the original would melt, so they switched over to the flat connector to avoid that..but yes if u can find that style fuel pump assembly, u would avoid that
@@backyardchevy328 oh awesome. Just hoping the connectors not melted and that I don’t accidentally blow myself up. Could I use a regular handsaw to avoid sparks all together?
I just had Dyno tune done to it 3 months ago when I got it and I had a GM hot cam stage one put in and just a 2200 stall It ran great for the first 3 months then I get gas in this little town and ever since then I have to give it a little gas to keep it running at first starts, well most ever time I shut it off. I ran injector fluid through it because I thought it was just injector getting stuck but it keeps going on like this and now my gas cap po455 code keeps coming on that's why I'm thinking it's a fuel pressure regulator otherwise I'm not sure what else it could be
Yea id say try testing fuel pressure to see how ur fuel pump and pressure regulator are working and go from there, if ur getting good fuel pressure and no misfires, then id start looking towards vacuum leak
If it hasnt been replaced unfortunately yes, cause those square connectors had a problem with the connector melting so they replaced those with those wide connectors
Dont get me wrong it's a great video though because you first showed the engines reaction then fuel pressure before replacing the fuel pump other RUclips videos don't show that at all and I'm going Through the same thing.
I haven't checked the pressure yet. It fires right up at 1000-1100 but after 3 seconds it'll die if I dont give it some gas. I've driven it about 80 miles and hasn't shut off while driving. I did order a full fuel pump with regulator haven't put it in yet.
is it modified? like custom cam? if u put a big enough cam in without a tune that could happen, ive done a few cam installs and theyll stall the first few times and i gotta rev it til it smooths out and then itll idle and run fine..and thats just cause it needs a tune.
I'm getting ready to do my '98 Z28 either this weekend or Monday, as soon as the part comes in. I think mine is a little closer to the back seat than yours.
yea u start about 1 and half inch away from rear seat crease...and leave an inch away from crease on sides...and u start cut near the middle beveled area
Would your car still stay running if you feathered the gas pedal? I have a 99 ls1 camaro and mine starts up and goes to 1100 rpm then if I dont feather it tties to die.
no, if i feathered the pedal itd stall faster...u might have a vacuum leak somewhere, cause ur idles starting high thats a symptom of a vacuum leak and having to feather it by giving it more gas for all the air its getting probably another symptom of a vacuum leak.
Nice, another valuable heads up. This weekend I'm jacking er up and getting that driver side rear tire, skirt off. I'm going after that pain in a$$ Charcoal canister. Sets off service soon light, intermittent. Car runs great, but sometimes gotta turn it over twice to fire up. KEEP VIDS COMING
Most of the fuel pumps aftermarket you have to wire in like that ? I need to purchase one, but they do not have the same connection, so I feel like I’m going to be doing the same thing you are lol
How did you cut it with no sparks? I want to tackle this job myself but im nervous about blowing myself up. Saving myself a grand is useless if i am dead lol
Also my check engine light came on after I got gas, when I read the code it says gas cap. Other people this it could be my fuel pressure regulator.. I guess I could try and get a new cap and see if it's really that simple..can the gas cap really make it run like that. After I hold the pedal for 5 seconds at 1200rmp it'll stay running and has never in quit while driving. Seems to be happing only starting it up
no gas cap wont affect that...have u checked fuel pressure? does it take a few times cranking it for it to start? best way to tell if its fuel pressure regulator not holding pressure, when u have fuel pressure gauge on it, u turn key off, the pressure will drop to 0 because fuel pressure regulator isnt holding pressure in system
