Ice Road To Tanana

- So many always ask about the new road to Tanana. I was asked to do a presentation at an ice road workshop as I and others in town have worked long hours on our river portion of the road which is not part of the state maintained road but essential to get to it. It's basically a video slideshow so just use your play/pause button to control the speed of slides in order to read captions.

Anyone interested in a signed copy has two options:
First way go to: www.thestanproject.com/mercha... and buy a pre signed book (the simplest)
Second is to buy a book on Amazon and follow these instructions. (Many have done this and it has worked well. Done hundreds and no mail failures yet).
1. Get two 12.5 x 9.5" priority mail flat rate envelopes at post office.
2. Self-address and put postage on one envelope.
3. Address other one to: Stan Zuray, Box 77172, Tanana, Alaska, 99777 and put book and other envelope in it (folded) and signing instructions if any and I'll sign and return.
Please send no money - my privilege to sign but an Amazon review would be appreciated. Flat rate both ways will cost you under $18.

We get snow here in Missouri, but no where near what you get. We mostly get ice. I don't mind cold weathet, but I hate the thought of the icy roads.Take care .

i plow some snow here in RI but half of the time it is all melted 2 days after we plowed it. You guys have the real deal up there.

Since Tanana is accessible to vehicles in the winter I'm wondering about whether there are any motels of vacation rentals out there? Maybe I could drive out in a rental car so long as I didn't ask the rental agency if it was okay to drive over the ice road. 😜I'm a California boy (at least as old as Stan is to be honest.) I've been going to northern Minnesota the past few winters to go ice fishing and enjoy the winter solitude of our island cabin. I've had to learn some of the safety tricks of driving on frozen lakes, like: A, unbuckle the seat belts, & 2, roll the windows down so you can get out of the car quick if the ice breaks. There are 2 bed and breakfast places and they take good care of people. The road is only open in winter reliably from Feb 15th on and that is not that reliable either. The ice road is only usable of course during the cold weather. All in all it's not a well maintained road. the state does not consider it a priority road at all.
