Bullet selection, ethical range especially per cartridge, and knowing proper shot placment are key to a successful hunt. Caliber of rifle not so much. You are spot on about the failed hunts with the 6.5 creedmore.
Hello John!. The Hornady ELD-x also has the Interlock Ring. As you pointed out, shot placement plus, knowing the cartridge/bullet limitations and the hunters marksmanship skills, almost always determine a successful outcome.
For 2 decades, the smallest cartridge I've owned to hunt with is the 6.5-284 Norma which does the exact same thing to big mule deer as any of my larger cartridges up to 300RUM. Just a couple months ago I got a very good price on a new Tikka 6.5CM at a Cabela's that was closing. Retail was $1049.99. I got it for 786.50 not including military discount. I also found another great deal on another one on gun broker. Both are stainless but one has the fluted barrel. I bought Norma Bondstrike ammo which shot as well as any of my custom rifles with handloads. Tagged a deer with it days after I sighted it in. Shot was high lung at about 70 yards. She ran about 40 yards and died. Now the 6.5CM is my smallest cartridge and it works and performed the same as my Tikka 300WM and 300WSM did a couple weeks earlier. Both of those deer ran several yards also. Just goes to show that you don't need anything bigger than a 6.5CM for deer
Great information. The correct bullet, shot placement, and practice are essential to success.
Yep, got to cover the basics! Thanks for watching!

Yeah, the ELD-X has the interlock, but not a cannular. Some hunters like that bullet, but I know some that don't. Thanks, and thanks for watching!

Glad you are having great hunting success! That Bondstrike is a bonded bullet, so great for hunting. Thanks for watching!
