    I hope the weekend home pond builders need to realize the importance of leaf litter in the bottom of a frozen pond gives off deadly gasses. They need to make sure there is an opening in the ice and a leaf net that’s high at one end and slopes downward keep leafs and other things like tiny sticks. ❤️

    Two questions; are the aqua blocks just for surface area like the bio balls? How does the area not fill up with sediment over time?

    • @GregWittstockThePondGuy
      @GregWittstockThePondGuy 3 года назад +4

      Aquablocks diffuses and spreads out the water for even flow through the gravel that provides the surface area for bacteria to colonize.
      The snorkel/centipede combo allows for an annual back flushing of the system

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  3 года назад +4

      The Aquablox are used as a sediment trap, if maintained on a yearly basis there’s no concern of excess sediment buildup

    • @Ameng3471
      @Ameng3471 3 года назад +2

      Water goes into aqua block comes from skimmer, which already been filtered. It should be crystal clear and out of debris

Good kids, too. I told them they should collab with you if they want to do it right. Maybe you can contact them. I wanna see you in some vids there.

    Ed, any reason why you didnt put the discharge water at 14:23 inside the liner instead of outside of the liner and punching a hole thru the liner? We still can hide the pipe inside the line using rock and gravel rite? Any reason to do it outside the liner?

    • @GregWittstockThePondGuy
      @GregWittstockThePondGuy 3 года назад +3

      It’s cleaner doing it this way. The stone stays flush with the liner and we aren’t intimidated by cutting holes in the liner when utilizing this technique

    • @EdThePondProfessor

      The pump for the Jets is located inside of the skimmer which is outside of the liner, we have no other option other than going through the liner to make that happen,
      Does that make sense?

    • @Ameng3471
      @Ameng3471 3 года назад +1

      @@EdThePondProfessor been thinking what if we go over the liner from outside to the inside and covered using stone and gravel, must be above maximum water line tho.

  • @lindakokinda8145
    @lindakokinda8145 3 года назад +1

    Should you keep your running water ,running in fish pond in winter will it freeze the pumps

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  3 года назад

      It’s optional,
      You can leave the pumps running or shut them off for the winter,
      If you decide to shut them off the pumps should be removed from the skimmers and stored in a garage or inside the home,
      A small bubbler or floating heater should be installed inside of the pond to keep a hole open in the ice to allow for gas transfer

    Is it wise to connect a wetland filter to a pond bottom drain?

    • @TEAMAquascape
      @TEAMAquascape 3 года назад +1

      We don’t install bottom drains. Skimmers for surface debris and rocks and gravel for the base to harbor bacteria colonies to break down waste

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  3 года назад +1

      I wouldn’t recommend it,
      Wetlands require highly oxygenated water with minimal sediments for optimal function.
      Bottom drains typically have lower D.O. with higher sediments......

    Yea. It's HARD to Fathom HOW much Filtration a Large amount of Koi Require. I only have a 5k gal pond and use 2 koi toilets with airators. 2 skimmers. A pressurized Bead Filter. A 400gal settlement tank. A 4 Tier Trickle Filter. A sieve Filter and a fluidized media Bed. And 60w UV sterilizer. All Run with 2 7k gal hr mag drive Pumps. And Chinese air pump. It is literally just enough to keep the water perfect. If I removed 1 thing. The water quality would deplete pretty quickly.
    There's Nothing Easy or Cheap about Keeping Koi.
    But it sure is FUN
