- Flash games have been around for years now, being posted to websites like Newgrounds and Miniclip, and with Adobe Flash Player being discontinued later this year, I take a trip down memory lane and take a look at some of my favourite flash games from the past, from Raft Wars to Age of War, we explore what made flash games so great.

Flash games was the best thing for a child with an old laptop with slow internet. My personal favorites were the Swords and Sandals series, Feudalism 1&2, Stick War, and Raze.❤

As somebody who wasted whole weekends of my life on Andkon in the late 00s, on a worn-out Dell laptop with a tea towel on my lap so that it didn't burn a hole in my crotch while it struggled to render flash games, I can relate to this on a very personal level.
Had no idea i spent so much time playing flash games but almost every game you showed a clip of unlocked a new memory in my brain. Thank you

Most of us spent so much time playing flash games. I remember playing the holy shit out of a flash game called "Strike Force Hero's" and is what led to my love for FPS games.

@@Joeseppi Honestly, wouldn't be surprised. Also I remember playing games on Andkon Arcade... oh the memories. My favourites were... shiz, forget the names. Ok so the second one from the left 1st(top) row, the 3rd from the left in the 2nd & 3rd row, 4th from left in 3rd row, 5th from left 3rd and 6th row, 6th from left 1st row(Miragine? War, still has a mobile game that is both good and shit) and 4th row, 3rd from right 2nd and 3rd row, 2nd from right 2nd and 3rd row, and 1st from right 3rd row.
Played all those and a handful of others quite often when I was little.
It's going to be difficult to explain to people just how great Flash games were. I started playing Flash games in 2002, and basically didn't stop until Flash was killed. So many great titles...

It was good. But there was another very similiar game that was more complex but so much better. The one where you could build stuff in the back of your base allowing you to build different units

Newgrounds and Armorgames were my shit. My favorites were Dad N Me, Madness Interactive, Boxhead, and a bunch of others I'm probably forgetting right now

I finished that kissing game. There were multiple endings and I got two. 1) If you don't kiss her at all she goes with the boss. 2) If you kissed her moderately but not enough, she doesn't chose either of you.
i played a game similar to it but it was about eating cookies while your dad was asleep
The version I played was a Korean one about a guy that has to fart really badly at a bus stop next to an old lady and you have to time it with the traffic as long as possible. Otherwise your gas meter fills up and the guy rockets into space.

I remember playing Age of War and my mother yelling at me because it was "violent"
I remember being yelled at by my dad because I played Minecraft.
His logic was that, because it's in first person, it's an FPS like Doom or Call of Duty.

I think the single idea that it was so open and limited at the same time made it so only games with really cool concepts could be successful

The "games on a flash drive" thing reminded me that there was a game that went around my school, it was like a paper airplane flying game where you had to avoid fans and things. The twist was, it was embedded in an excel sheet on some obscure row:column coordinates so if teach came by, just hop on back at A1 and just looks like an empty spreadsheet

Every time I see a video like this, I’m always amazed by how similar my childhood was to other people’s.
Hell, I'm 14 and I grew up on flash games. I specifically remember a ton of NewGrounds, arcadeprehacks, and GirlsGoGames
Ive also kind of realized that while better and worse in certain apsects, its the same thing with roblox nowadays.
Practically every kid is playing roblox games, and its not just a few games. There are tons of incredibly janky games (90% made by someone bellow the age of 16) that are nowhere near the front page that still get thousands of players every day.

flashpoint has a massive archive of flash games.
I lived in South Africa growing up (hope to go back at some point) and our internet was pretty abysmal, so we would use Orbit Free Download Manager to download online flash games onto our PC so we could play them offline or copy them to friends. I have preserved that collection of flash games well over the years and even on my PC here in the UK today, I have files dating back to 2003 from when I downloaded them. I used sites like Miniclip and Albino Black Sheep.
Maaaan these really were the days though, people making art for the sake of passion and community, early versions of memes and jokes going from one flash production to another. The mobile game landscape of today is a lifeless place by comparison.

I really enjoyed Miniclip's Robot Rage game. Heck NeoPets was amazing too. It's insane how these sites were early adopters and had almost a monopoly on it and as kids we would all talk about it and play it, and nowadays the AppStore and GooglePlay are flooded with millions of mobile phone games.

Oh my God. After seeing videos on flash games. I was upset that nobody else seemed to remember andkon. That site was my go to site for playing flash games. Definitely earned a sub
I spent so many hours after finishing my classwork (or ignoring it) playing Flash games on my chromebook or after school in the computer lab waiting for my parents to pick me up. My dealers were theCoolMathGames with the Papa Louie Series and Big Ice Tower Tiny Square, and the many Unblocked Games sites like 77, 66, etc. with games like Strike Force Heroes 2 and the Henry Stickmin games which are my all-time favorite flash series

I remember playing a ton of these on Coolmath Games, my favorites where Bloons Tower Defense, Run 2, Fireboy and Watergirl, any of the Papa’s games, and the Duck Life games.

The Japanese game at 3:48 is called "Offi-chu Love" (オフィちゅ ラブ), the name has a wordplay between "Office love" and "Chuu", the Japanese onomatopoeia for a kiss. The button at 3:51 does indeed say "Start", while the other one down left at 3:48 again says "How to play", or "Game instructions" (遊び方)

I loved Raft Wars so much. It was my favorite flash game of all time.
So glad I grew up with Flash games. They made the growing up period amazing. My supplier was Kongregate which for some reason rarely gets mentioned in these videos.
Heck I still go to it daily to get my badge of the day even though nothing new has been added for years so the same games are in the rotation.
And blessed be Flashpoint which gives me the ability to replay any Flash game from my favorite list when I feel nostalgic.
Also some of them started getting ports to Steam. Some are even getting full on sequels.
It's kind of sad seeing Flash go. I mean, sure, the performance is relatively horrible on bigger games, but damn... I remember the likes of Battle Gear, Warfare 1917 and Warfare 1945 out of all the small games, and then the likes of Ninja Saga and Farm Ville from the bigger games, on Facebook... kinda sad to see them go.

When I was 10 the whole school played on a website called mathletics, instead of actual flash games. You had to prove you were the best at level 1 live mathletics.

Brought back some good memories. I used to play this one game that was kinda of like age of war but they had insane crazy maps and was stuck in the Roman era. I miss that game. That and any papas game was my jam back then on my family’s old pc with windows 7

I played so many flash games, one of them being Lego games like Ninjago Spinjitzu Smash party, Lego Builder Island, and so many more. I would never forget how much time I would just spend playing these games for hours.

It was a magical feeling to jump from game to game, having the the variety of gods, and having a new experience every minute.
we really grew up on these smorgasbords of low budget creativity and now .. ? not so much :/ no one wants to put their name on anything less than absolutely polished, for fear of crippling a career before it even buds. the desire to appear as a simulacrum of professionalism as prescribed by your profession and society rather than as you truly are, has ruined the society of mankind. this ability to appear different than we are has ruined us, because somehow, somewhere, sometime, we all fell for these images of society that we were spoon-fed. maybe the last generation thought we could be conditioned into making it happen through faith alone, but when the foundation has been abused so terribly, with cultures and people betraying one another constantly, for reasons apparent or unknown, the light in the world dies a little more every day.
