    Casting Jim Carrey saved them a small fortune. He learned to talk normal with the giant prosthetic teeth, and his flexible face meant a lot of typically CG expressions he could just...do normally.
    Also, in Bruce Almighty, that was just Jim making a face. No CG at all. He's done the Clint Eastwood face in interviews.

    • @GRIZZLYSGEAR
      @GRIZZLYSGEAR 7 месяцев назад +8

      You're right about the CG, but they did use a little bit of physical make up with a facial bump prosthetic to mildly amplify features, and make it look almost like they went back in time; and performed a facial transplant. Jim Carrey's contortionist abilities are amazing, and seeing his original Clint Eastwood impersonation for the first time as a kid, was mind blowing. I'm glad he came back to us in the Sonic films and I'm hoping we get some more of his particular comedy films from him very soon...

    For a 1994 film the effects they pulled off were just incredible. The whole transformation sequence to The Mask was like Jekyll and Hyde in the funniest way possible. That Jokeresque performance was so well done and Jim's physical comedy was integral to the overall story. It really had that slapstick feel to it.

    The “Mask’s” powers are similar to that of Popeye or Looney Tunes, in pop culture and particular circles such as comics and anime, the ‘power’ is referred to as Toon Force. Powers that essentially break the rules of the reality they’re displayed in :)

    My great grandfather worked for our local Studebaker warehouse(s) here in northern Indiana and every year during non-winter months there's a monthly classic drive-in meet every first Saturday. Every Studebaker Champion I've ever seen in person has been in immaculate condition. It took some serious neglect for that 1951 Champion to be as run down as it was (9:57) + Hollywood engineering for it to have fallen apart on the bridge like it did. Last year was the first time I saw a convertible variation. Two of them, one bright red and a white one.

He wrote jokes for other comics including Chris Rock, as well as fueling his own stand up shows, and short lived TV comedy series "Platypus Man". He suffered from depression that led him to ultimately take his own life. So sad. I miss his jokes.

    Best Dark Horse Comics are the original Aliens comics that continue Nicks' and Newt's story. I remember the cop guy from Animal House. The scene you were thinking of where a guy falls into a printing press and it's really bloody is probably 007 Tomorrow Never Dies. And I think this was Cameron Diez's first role ever and she's never looked hotter.

    23:31 - Until you said, "Bombshell Explodes" by saying that paper headline again, I never caught that it had a direct meaning about her, but also foreshadows what comes later in the movie. I don't know if it was intentional, but I find it funny now. Also, Corridor Digit reviewed the CGI in this movie and said it's absolutely astonishing for the year it came out and what they had to pull off. Jim learned to talk with the teeth in to make it more fluid and they were originally only supposed to be seen for silent scenes. His makeup took 4 hours to put on, even though it looked simple.

    Also side note: one of my favorite parts in this movie is when Jim Carrey is doing that Cuban Pete dance and he has the conga line going and while he’s at the front he does this weird spin move that looks kind of odd and I’ve always wondered how he did that move because it looks almost unnatural.

    For US comics, DC and Marvel were "the big 2" splitting ~70% market share, but Image and Dark Horse came 3rd and 4th through the 90s, with DH appearing first in the 80s. Dark Horse specialized in a lot of liscensed properties such as Terminator, Aliens, Predator, and originated the AvP concept, all of which were really good. They also had a lot of darker creator-owned stuff like Mike Mignola's Hellboy. Image, on the other hand, were 7 artists who split from Marvel to form their own company and each had a flagship superhero title (like Spawn). But while they made a big initial splash, there's been a lot of drama between them over the decades.

    If I’m remembering right this was Cameron Diaz’s film debut
    From my understanding the actual comic version of The Mask is much darker and more deranged but they gave the character a more Looney Tunes feel for the movie
