1994 was the big breakthrough for Jim Carrey. He made The Mask, Ace Ventura and Dumb & Dumber all in that year.
And all got animated series follow ups!
💯💯
And Cameron Diaz. This was her first acting job, and it made her a star.
@Otisboy121 The Mask animated series being the best out of the three.
@@Otisboy121oh yeah I never realized
21 year old Cameron Diaz in her acting debut.
Every man was shook upon seeing this movie.
Then she turned in to the Joker
And woman. I’m still drooling. 😂😊
@@voodoochile333 Sorry?
@@Otisboy121 He's just butthurt she aged normally like a human being.
No bs. I was like 9 when the movie came out. I've been crushing on her ever since
The mask brings out your hidden personality and makes it reality. That’s how a cartoon loving, love-hungry lonely Stanley became how he was when he put it on.
Exactly 💯
Jim Carrey is the GOAT of 90's comedy. Undisputed.
Did you know that Jim Carrey was only supposed to use those teeth temporarily, but he was able to talk with them through the whole movie? That's true talent right there!
Man I've watched this movie so many times, and I never knew that. I love learning something new about a favorite movie!
That’s a great post! Do you have a favorite website to find obscure movie facts?
@@BluntReactionsBB I just saw a short of it on RUclips
The comics were extremely violent with lots of people dying in them, those repair guys had the mufflers shoved the entire way in their body as an example. Also the mask essentially makes him a god and able to break the rules of reality
Big Head / The Mask literally works on Cartoon Logic. And that in the real-world means breaking the rules of reality.
The early 90s were very light, even more so than the 80s. The Addams Family was supposed to be very dark, but even with those themes, it ended up being pretty light considering the subject matter. Things really didn’t change in that respect until the very late 90s and even into the 2000s, Spider-Man was a thing.
I remember feeling awkward reading those comics when I was kid. RIP Shinders, Downtown MPLS. Mid 90s...
When Kellaway becomes Bighead, his nemesis is Walter, a musclebound brick of a man who shoots him between the eyes. Bighead is more outraged at getting blood on his suit rather than the gaping hole in his forehead. Funny stuff.
Then there's the crossover with Batman ("Joker/Mask") when Kellaway enlists Batman's help in finding the mask, which is at the Gotham City Museum before ultimately ending up on the face of the Joker. Bighead Joker is only defeated when Batman says his criminal antics are no longer funny and then Kellaway takes the mask back to Edge City, digging up Stanley Ipkiss' grave to bury the mask there.
Comics? Not sure I get that, but that's no surprise. Looney Tunes were also really violent, what with people blowing up and anvils falling on their heads and falling off cliffs and such. It's VERY different to watch them as an adult, which is why I think The Simpsons took off so much, and led to other cartoons like Family Guy being popular.💙
Even the makers of this movie were surprised how well it was received.
Fun Fact: Jim Carrey was so good at contorting his face, he saved the production a bunch of money on CGI because they didn't need to use it for lots of scenes!
Also, Jim Carrey is such a comical genius. I wish he and Robin Williams could have done something together.
Nobody likes fun facts!
So it's not an official production or anything but there's a video from years ago of Robin and Jim doing freestyle improv comedy at some kind of dinner. Essentially something happend like the power went out or something and one of them stood up and started telling people what to do in an emergency hyperbolistically and then the other stood up and started playing off it. Went on for quite a while and I think one of them even started speaking another language pretending to translate for certain members of the audience. Don't know if you can find it but I remember being awestruck when I saw it.
Thanks for the fun fact!
the world would implode from that sheer awesomeness :)
I can't believe they never had any movies/scenes together at all. Maybe their combined humor would be too overwhelming for most audiences. Lol.
I was 11 years old when I watched this at the cinema. Cameron Diaz's first appearance was a spiritual awakening.
Two somethings dropped that day, that's for sure.
@@gokaurysame for me and i'm gay
@@juliocesarg.r.1238LoL i understand, I'm also gay but Cameron Diaz looked fkn fab I was like 🤩
Stunning people always turn heads regardless of sexual orientation.
Shame you guys skipped over Cuban Pete. That's one of the best musical numbers in comedic movie history.
OMG! YES! My fav scene!
And a call back to Lt Calloway saying they needed swat to keep an eye on Ipkis because if he was bad they're going to have a full dance card?
I'm sure it sucked to cut that out. RUclips makes it hard to add any musical number. Reactions to Grease are hard to watch.
When I first saw it I was proud that I knew it was a Desi Arnaz impression.
I was bout to say! Y’all took out the best part!!
This movie is everything and was on constant repeat as a child. 😂
Also, R.I.P to Richard Jeni (Stanley’s friend Charlie) he was a great comedian who unfortunately ended his own life due to mental health issues.
Richard Jeni was one of my favorite comedians. I still have some of his specials saved.
@@Smokie_666
I have them on dvd. He was hilarious.
RIP Richard Jeni. He is still missed.
A close family friend named Reg. E. Cathey played "The Doctor" in this film. Before his passing I joked with him several times that the dog was the best actor in this film.
Ohh hoo hoo, this is gonna be sssssssmokin’!!!
Cameron is as always looking ssssssssssmokin
This was Cameron Diaz's first on screen role AND it happened to be her 21st birthday as well. So for her to get an on screen entrance as good as this was all sorts of amazing for her career.
A movie I could watch 100 times and never get tired of it. The 90's were a special time in entertainment.🔥🔥
17:51 me too.
The movie was full of adult jokes but we all watched it as kids. It went all over our heads anyway, but I can only imagine how my parents must have felt when we watched it, lol. The Mask also had a line of toys, a cartoon and a Super Nintendo game, he was everywhere, and we all loved him!
The spiciness of Cameron Diaz definitely didn't go over our heads as kids.
Here's a couple of interesting facts. This movie was Cameron Diaz's first acting role, as she was previously a model. At first she wasn't interested in participating in the movie, but the people in charge wanted her because she had good on screen chemistry with Jim Carrey.
Also in a deleted scene it shows that Dorian killing Peggy, by throwing her into the newspaper press. But they took it out since it was deemed too violent.
The Mask comics are actually under DC. I guess that's why they did a crossover with Batman in 2000.
I'm pretty sure I saw the deleted scene the first time I saw the movie on TV
Cameron Diaz's first _mainstream_ acting role.
She did a softcore p orn before this, called "She's No Angel", but she's gone to great lengths to make it unavailable.
And what’s funny is the comics are actually really violent
I heard somewhere that it wasn't cut for being too violent, but rather because the director wanted to save her for a possible sequel. (Which, of course, we never got.)
Ah yes, the film that helped bring Jim Carrey to the forefront of comedy! 1994 not only had this film, but it also had Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, all three of which made him a star in a matter of months.
There is a deleted scene where after Dorian puts on the mask he throws Peggy the reporter into the newspaper printer so her face can be on the front page of every paper killing her.
That’s pretty messed up.
Just remember that this is based on one of the most violent, graphic, and mean spirited comic books in history. One in a crossover with Batman, the mask got so twisted that the Joker thought he was insane
Took out the best scene of him making the whole squad sing and dance..
Right? WTH?
An all time classic! Incredible childhood movie for alot of people!! 🙌🏻
Absoultely! One of the best for sure
Its based from the comics. But unlike the film, the comics was alot more darker and fucked up but still have their sense of humor.
I love both versions but hope one day we get a movie more based on the comics. The Mask was basically Deadpool before Deadpool was even a thing.
Just wanted to also point that out.
Unfortunately, I doubt we'll ever get a movie closer to the comic. Most people only know the movie, and the comic isn't really known of outside of comic circles. So producers aren't going to see a market for it.
@@EidlonesAdd to the fact we had the absolute abomination that was Son of the Mask which I’m sure turned off the fans
Cameron Diaz's debut right here!!! She's a total bombshell ;) I'm laughing at how you two are just as stunned as the guys in the movie hahaha. This is a Jim Carrey classic ♥love it.
Lol that’s the closest I’ve seen Curtis down bad for someone
@@JayEdgar0409They both cracked me up lol XD
Fun fact: there is an official "family-friendly" PG-edit that tones down the innuendo like the "wrong pocket" joke and limiting the swearing down to an acceptable amount with the rest of the uses dubbed over with lighter terminology. This same edit is what airs on daytime TV.
This movie is why I named my jack russell Milo... he was the best dog and my very first hand-picked dog to adopt when I was 4 years old. He managed to live to be 15 years old. Milo has been gone for 7 years now, but the awesome memories remain.
Jim actually saved the production money with his physicality, because they didn't have to spend as much on cgi as they thought they would.
By far the best Cameron Diaz looked. Wish she stayed like this and never lost all the weight. She looked amazing.
She was ssssssssmoking
Well, unlike the latex doll under your bed she's a human being, and human beings age. You'll be a wrinkly person too one day.
@@snorpenbass4196 The person said lost the weight. After this movie, there is a noticeable difference in her weight and look in her following one. The person is mentioning how her look was better and more natural before she began trying to get in "shape". A lot of people agree that this curvier Diaz was the best Diaz, and her trying to get into a "Hollywood Body" made her less attractive.
Nothing about what was said was about aging. You brought that up. Please learn to understand what someone is conveying with their Comments.
My favorite Jim Carrey comedy, and one of my favorite comedies of all time. This is worth the experience of seeing it once, let alone more than once!
Me too.
I watched this all the time as a kid on VHS!!! Those were great times!
Jim Carrey is the best!
And I saw this on 📀
I am shocked you guys haven't seen this, a 90s classic
@@MartinJanrteah ! People dont bother to act like a clown just to make some money nowadays.
@@insanidadeEspelhada You very naive man)
@@MartinJanrtI’m amazed at work how many people in their 20’s and early 30’s haven’t seen much of anything. We’ll be in a meeting, and I’ll mention some huge movie, Forrest Gump for example, and one of the guys says “what’s that”.
@@MartinJanrta lot of kids I grew up had really religious parents and weren't allowed to go to movie theatres because they believed Hollywood was the devil. You'd be surprised how many haven't watched classics. A lot of families and religious groups have grown since than but yea man, not everyone has seen these classics. My buddy didn't watch the first Jurassic Park until 2009.
ive never seen Titanic. thats a 90s classic. so what?
When he smacks himself in the face with the Frisbee, it always gets me cause I did that before. LMAO! Had a huge black and purple bruise across my nose and part of my cheek. My teacher asked what happened and she didn't believe me and they actually called CPS on my parents! It took my uncle and my brothers explaining what exactly happened while I demonstrated. 😂😂😂 They finally accepted it. Wasn't funny then, but we laugh about it now.
Still my favorite go to 90s movie. When I was a kid, I used to put this in the vcr whenever it was rainy 👏😌
One of my favorite Jim Carrey movies ever and it's amazing that The Mask hasn't been a Mortal Kombat/Fighting Game Character yet because it feels like it could work, am I only on that
I think he should be on the new Street Fighter. But I doubt Jim Carrey would even want or allow that.
@@MikeyWilliams1998 Hahaha, he doesn't fit in Street Fighter. But Mortal Kombat for sure.
@@Nekotaku_TV how? He ain't bloody!
@@MikeyWilliams1998 Because the game has a lot of movie characters. And you should look up the original The Mask comic, it's very brutal.
@Nekotaku_TV Yeah I know what he was like in the comics, but which is more popular? The comics or the movie?
9:39
Tex Avery cartoons never go out of style!
😎
loved this movie as a child. aged very well. good to see you reacting to this ^^
29:30 Jim Carrey started his carreer as a Stand up comedian doing impersonisations...
His Clint Eastwood ones where amongst the best and the audiences favorite.
So off course, this was on point through and through
Surprised that the Cuban Pete segment was skipped considering that was probably one of the best parts of the movie.
I'm wondering if they was some copyright issue with it so they decided to just take it out all together
Always loved the cartoon/real people mix in movies. I think this one aged rather well, it is good entertainment. Milo is great, he's a Jack Russel terrier, a very smart and energetic breed. Smarter than many people I know!
8:39 » it made me remember of a fun fact: here in Brazil there was once a report on some news channel about a bunch of people standing on a bridge looking at the river thinking they saw a dead animal. they called the firemen to do the rescue and after about 4 hours of mystery and MUCH more people just staring over there, the firemen took a bag of trash out of the river 😆😆😆
I love it about the mask, how to bend reality and how to amplify the personality of the user. In the Derorian case, it was pure evil, that's why he had that demon face.
Ahhh yes one of my all-time favorite movies growing up, awesome that y'all finally watching this classic!
Yessssir, Jim Carrey was on a roll in 94 with this, Dumb and Dumber, AND Ace Ventura!
One of my favorite child hood movies 😂😂 I love Jim Carrey
Dorian was sent through the drain pipe all the way to Keyser Soze's secret lair/office and has to work for the biggest underworld crime boss for the rest of his life. He even has to call himself Redfoot.
"Did he shove'em up their ass?"
😇😄
This movie is such a gem and I know it far too well, loved your reaction to it. Hilarious.
Absolutely love this film! This and Dumb & Dumber are my favorite Jim Carrey comedies.
Even though Jim Carrey is amazing with the mask on, his performance as Stanley is just as great. According to Carrey, he based his performance on his Dad and I think he made this generic nice guy role into a much more charming and relatable one.
Director Chuck Russell also helmed Eraser (1996) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and The Scorpion King (2002) starring Dwayne Johnson. Quite the underrated filmmaker.
You guys have done it again! The Mask is one of my favorite Jim Carrey films!
Me too.
If I had a nickle each time Jim Carrey played a green guy with a dog, I'd have 2 nickles, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice lmao
Love this film. Considering it came out in 1994, the effects really hold up
glad you guys are watching this probably the1st ever Jim Carrey movie i watched in my childhood made me a Jim Carrey fan for life.
Me too.
It's awesome to see u react to one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies I grew up watching as a kid.
There are so many lines in this movie which play on repeat in my head in daily life. These are core memories.
14:07, the punishment literally fighting the crime.
Also the Mask isn't a monster but practically a cartoon god.
The mask just enhances the wearer's personality
RIP Richard Jenni. Lint sucking stumps is still one of the funniest routines I've heard.
Ah a classic. Nice choice my doods!
The CGI effects still hold up well after all these years.
Jim carey was in his bag such a classic
This was my first Jim carry movie I watched, I was 14 now 43, after that he became my favorite comedic actor ever.
Interesting thing is that in the comics, Stanley is actually the first villain to wear the mask, getting revenge on people who wronged him over the years. He simply snapped after years of bullying and he was only stopped when his girlfriend convinced him to remove the mask...and then she shot him (especially after hearing he murdered eleven cops in a cartoon whirlwind trying to escape custody).
The main character of The Mask is actually Lieutenant Kellaway.
The Mask gave those auto mechanics the “Midas Touch”. 😂
This is the first time Jim Carrey did a Clint Eastwood impression in a film!
The second was Bruce almighty!
Me myself n irene...his characters alter ego Hank was a Clint Eastwood impersonation....
This is the very first movie that I ever have a memory of watching, back when I was 2 years old. It will always hold a special place in my heart
This was so much fun to watch. Jim Carey is a national treasure
"Those pyjamas are impossible" is such an underrated line😂
12:32
HOLD ON TO YOUR LUGNUTS, IT'S TIIIIIME FOR AN OVERHAUL!!
I love that part 😂😂😂
Well you know, they are called tail pipes for a reason. ^_^
A waste pipe 😂
and if its a woman it definitely goes in her muff ler.
I haven’t seen The Mask in so long that i completely forgot about Amy Yasbeck (John Ritter’s wife) being in the movie.
1.2K views in 14 minutes, dude you guys are doing something right. I started over a year ago thinking who are these weird canadians and their channel and now look at you bro 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
My favorite scene leading up to when he received the academy award
The "Loner Car' is a direct reflection of the mechanic.
The mask was a comic in the 80s but no one knew of it untill this movie
2:23 "It's a HOT DOG"
2:33 "Nice STARFISH"
Fred Durst: "BRING IT ON!" 😆🎸
I have been watching you guys for a while now and I love how your intro has devolved more and more into a wwf/wcw promo. IT'S GREAT!!!
This movie made Jim Carrey my #1 childhood crush
Originally, Jim Carrey's lines were supposed to be dubbed because the director knew he wouldn't sound right with the oversize dentures in.. BUT... After a couple of days practice, Jim was able to do his lines perfectly with them in !
Before I stopped having friends, these 2 blokes were exactly the people I'd hang out with!
Such a great movie. The scene that always makes me lose it is when he kicks the bumper of the loaner car and it falls off, taking him down as well 🤣. Him rearing back to kick sells it so well. Glad you kept it in. Great reaction! Cheers from Hart, Michigan.
12:44 trust me, compared to the comic series this film was based on, the mechanics in the film got off easy
One of my husband and my favourite films. We plan to have the soundtrack played at our vow renewal. :)
BTW, if you look up the original comic, it gets DARK. Super gory stuff.
But you still might like it.
Also, speaking of 90s and Ninja Turtles, have you done any of the three live action Ninja turtles movies yet?
I think their suits still kinda hold up to this day.
This movie is amazing honestly. I loved how they gave him a lot of freedom to be himself.
RIP Richard Jeni 😔
We had a CD of a standup of his.
My favorite bit is he's pretending to be a referee being old and he says "it takes a hour to find my glasses so I can find my teeth to Tell My Wife to Find My Hair!" 😂
Love this film, what the mask does is it brings out your ID (inner desires). So with Stanley it made him more confident and stuff but with Dorian it made him more evil.
Probably one of Jim Carrey best performances
The Mask and Swingers helped bring about the resurgence of swing music in the 90's. I wouldn't mind that happening again.
Thankyou both for reaching to this it's in my top20 movies of all time!! Keep.up the good work lads I'm here for all of it 👏👊👊
You might recognize Dorian as Zed from Pulp Fiction. As in, "Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead."
and Training Day. "fuck Hoyt, ambulance time!"
and in the movie Blue Streak
CGI was still extremely new at this time and they use it in this movie perfectly- it really stands the test of time. When we bought this on bluray we were astounded at how good it looked.
This is my favorite childhood movie.❤ I didn’t realize the last part as a child, when Stanley quotes Clint Eastwood from Dirty Harry. But as an Adult I found it so amazing, because I love "Dirty Harry" so much and it was so badass. Jim Carrey is just Great, man. I enjoy you guys reactions so much.❤
Such a great movie when it came out!! This is a top tier movie in Jim Carey's amazing career!!!
One of the greatest comedies/drama of all time. This is one of my favorite movies from childhood to adulthood. I seen this in theaters when I was 8 twice. And seen it a thousand more times from then til now. Such a classic and very hilarious 😂😂😂 I love Jim Carrey
Great content guys! Through good times and rough times you provide unforgettable entertainment. Thank you!
As a Kid When I Was Younger This Movie Scared Me But Later On I Started To Like This Movie With Jim Carrey After Becoming a Teenager!
Interesting movie fact: The interior of the garage Stanley takes his car to is the Ghostbusters HQ. The interior was in Los Angeles & the exterior was & is the iconic firehouse in NYC
I love how this reverses the good/bad girl roles!
Fun fact : this is Cameron Diaz's very first movie
“It’s party time! P-A-R-T-Y? Because I gotta! 🎉🎉🎉
Not a lot of people know this but the Mask movie was originally supposed to be more chaotic and violent, which would have made it closer to the source material.
The Mask comics starring Mr. Big Head - the name used for Stanley’s crazed green-faced reality bending alter ego - is like the downright diabolical mix between Deadpool and the Joker and by no means good.
Actually now that I think about it…. I think I remember seeing some deleted scenes for this movie up on RUclips that definitely played a lot more with the violent angle.
Jim Carrey-the legend Milo -the cute key master and Cameron Diaz-the hot goddess that red dress dam
The cartoon Stanley Ipkis (Jim Carrey) was watching with the wolf was "Red Hot Riding Hood" (1943) by Tex Avery. The Wolf was also the earlier antagonist to Droopy).
I love how you guys both laughed at the same time 😂
I Love When These Guys Laugh During Comedy Movies Like The Mask With Jim Carrey!
