Absolutely love the longest Yard with Burt Reynold, just as good, not about the comedy it is about the camaraderie of he finally finds with the inmates. I hope you get a chance to watch it sometime
Smokey and Bandit and he Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Man Burt Reynold´s was magnificent in those as well. Burt Reynold´s and Tom Selleck, two guys who can pull out moustaches decade after decade and still be cool.
When so many pro wrastlers are in a movie it's usually a straight to DVD kinda movie, bus this turned out SO WELL! Stone Cold actually had a pretty hard time saying those lines. He still does a podcast and is a pretty down to earth and reasonable dude. Kevin Nash after his emotions get crazy is just hilarious lol
Many of the pro “wrastlers” were football players before they were wrestlers, Bill Goldberg sticks out in my mind. There were also a bunch of former pro football players in the cast as well.
Little Fun Fact: When Crewe is convincing the Warden to have the guards play a tune-up game, Adam Sandler's line was "Back in college, we always open up the season against Appalachian State, it's like some division 2 team. Kick the living shit outta them, get our confidence up." Appalachian State is a real school and they went on the win the FCS (Division 1-AA) National Championship the same year this movie was released (2005), the first of 3 straight National Championship victories. App State would use the clip in their promotional material and the team would watch the scene before they played #5 Michigan in 2007, a game they would win in a historic upset. As an apology, Adam Sandler bought season tickets to App State football games and reportedly is still a season ticket holder now. Appalachian State now plays in Division 1 in the Sun Belt Conference, and was most recently in the news for Upsetting #6 Texas A&M last season and subsequently hosting College Gameday.
I just rewatched this yesterday! Great movie 😅 Love that Burt Reynolds is in it, he played Adam Sandler’s part in the original film, also a lot of the players in the movie were or are real football players, even cheeseburger Eddie aka terry crews, also my favorite Michael Irving! ❤
Burt Reynolds Stone Cold Goldberg Bob Sapp The Great Khali Terry Crews Joey Diaz Nelly Chris Rock Kevin Nash Tracy Morgan and more the cast for this movie is kinda crazy
As some have pointed out, Burt Reynolds was the lead in the original movie. But as an added bonus, the guy who asked for a picture golfing (the one whose wife slept with Crewe) was Captain Knauer in the original Longest Yard. Nice little cameo. RIP Ed Lauter. All the former pro football players and wrastlers are great.
This is a remake of the 1974 film of the same name, which starred Burt Reynolds in the lead role. Both versions feature former NFL players, while this also features pro wrestlers and various other athletes
8:26 that guy was the leader of the Rogues in The Warriors, he was the bad guy in Dreamscape, a lackey in Commando, the gang member with the Zippo in The Crow, and many other bad guys.😮
If you would like to see the British version, Mean Machine (2001) is basically the same story but with soccer starring Vinnie Jones. The film is an adaptation of the 1974 American film The Longest Yard which this remake is based on.
Mean Machine is amazing. Vinne Jones, Danny Dyer, Jason Statham etc is an amazing cast. That movie has so many hilarious moments. I think I prefer that movie over The Longest Yard any day.
Wasn't Vinnie Jones a soccer or rugby guy? I recall a story about him getting kicked from a game in like 10 seconds. As soon as the game started he charged the other team and utterly obliterated someone.
14:10 He was The Great Khali in the WWE. (Incidentally, his character was played by Jason Statham’s I’m the British version of this movie, set in an English prison, with a soccer game instead of American Football)
One of the things I love about the movie is that they hired NFL camera men to film the last sequences. That gave it an awesome football documentary feel.
I was glad to see the commitment by Adam Sandler to this role. He got himself in the best shape of his life and learned how to play football better in order to be believable onscreen.
This really is one of the greatest star studded movies out there. All the stars in different categories you got Adam Sandler and Chris Rock, Goldberg, Kevin Nash and Stone Cold Steve Austin, Nelly and Terry Crews with Michael Erivin plus more. This is one of my favorites I own on DVD
I don’t even like football like that but whenever the longest Yard water, boy, or the replacements or remember the Titans I always watch my all time faves lol 😁
the guy at the 13:39 marker is Eddie Bunker. People know him as Mr Blue in Reservoir Dogs. Bunker did time in prison for armed robbery. Inside he turned himself into a writer. He wrote Animal Factory and No Beast so Fierce. Both were made into movies. No Beast so Fierce became the movie STRAIGHT TIME with Dustin Hoffman which I highly recommend.
"Why does everyone hate him?" Because he shaved points off a football game. I'm pretty sure most of them are pissed off they made bets his team would win just to have him take a dive and lose on purpose.
This is a remake of a movie made in 1974, which depending on where you lived in the world was called The Longest Yard or also Mean Machine. Around the same time as this there was another remake in Britain called Mean Machine with ex-football (soccer) player turned actor Vinnie Jones in the lead role and with English football as the game played.
This movie is one of my favourite with Adam Sandler, but for me "Reign over me" is the best movie he ever made and you two should totally check it out. Great reaction as always!
Loved this movie growing up. My dad loves cheeseburger Eddie. He can't help but quote baby back b alot. Also nelly's song Fly away is great. I remember when it was on the radio like crazy. 14:15 man survived the chair three times. If surviving the chair wasn't an urban myth he'd be a free man.
I actually like this over the original. I just felt like the comedy in the original was outdated and not my type. I did get a few chuckles out of the original though. However my outlook on the original might have been skewed since I saw the remake first. So that might have something to do with it.
Another great football movie from the 70s rarely mentioned or reacted to with NO remake is "North Dallas Forty". It captures the football spirit of the late 70s PERFECTLY. I was in middle school when this movie came out.
Crazy Movie Fact: The Longest Yard was filmed in an actual penitentiary prison, a prison where the convicts took over and executed other convicts by cutting off their heads and started playing soccer on the same field where Sandler and the rest of the actors did their football training or tryouts or tree-outs.
10:35 - When Crew suggests a tune-up game, he says 'We used to start each season against Appalachian State or some slack Division 2 team.'
