- There's this species of lizard that is literally exactly like a dinosaur. Even though it's a deadly creature.. I decided to build it a home and keep it as a pet. By the end of the video I find out if dinosaurs are actually good pets. The species is a Frilled Dragon

Cool animal, few things to note though, frilled dragons often get put in too high of humidity, the Australian ones live in arid areas and tropical grasslands and scrubland, never let humidity exceed 75% for Australian frilled dragons(50-70% is good, the upper ends would only be reached periodically in the rainy season) if you do respiratory illness will quickly follow. your little dragon wont stay small for long and the Australian frilled dragons can exceed 90cm in length (larger than he PNG ones) they are voracious, also in the wild I've always found they prefer vertical trees and stumps, so give him some of those, they like to shimmy around them to get out of sight
Got it! Thank you for the info. The guy I bought it from was saying some of the same stuff so I’ll make sure to match those conditions. I only intended to keep this first enclosure until the dinosaur starts to reach closer to its full size

@@cheemdogmanthe JP Dilophosaurus is inaccurate it’s nothing like the real Dilophosaurus. The actual Dilophosaurus grew to around 20ft in length and did not have a frill or venom spit but did have a very strong bite and dominated during its time.
I came to say the same thing. Mine is in a 4 ft tall 4 ft wide and 2 ft deep enclosure and I actually plan on adding another 2 ft to the top. Vertical branches are the preferred for mine too. They really are amazing lizards. Mine rarely frills unless he feels threatened which is usually if I take him outside. If he sees a bird he will freak out. If I stand too close he frills up but is fine if I sit next to him. I'd recommend putting him on a leash if taking him outside. They can run very fast.

Must have been a good pet shop that hand fed him. One of the most chilled out juvenile frilled lizards I've seen. All of your movement around him with the camera and he was just like "Meh."
Yeah I got him from a breeder who has cared for them for over a decade. He's super good and they're all captive bred and have experience with humans from birth.
I think it's adorable when it's a baby! Additionally, I adore the effort you took to create this adorable tiny home; fantastic work.

Dilophosaurus are actually the size of velociraptors they had no frills and they lived in deserts. The reason why they were turned into little creatures with frills is so that means they weren’t mistaken for the velociraptors.
Honestly i love when people have other animals as pets because it makes them feel like they also need some kind of importance and the dinosaur you're comparing the lizard with is called dilophosaurus

Wow, lots of youtubers seem to not actually care about pets they buy and just get them for videos, but you actually seem to care about you made a really nice set up! Im so glad to see this! One thing I do recommend(as a lizard owner myself) is a thermostat so you don't accidentally fly the little guy, not many sources mention you need one but I found out its super important as my heat lamps temperature got quite high and with only a thermometer it was dangerous for my lizard!

Bfun fact: birds are the closest related species to dinosours so technically those with chickens are the closest to having dinos as pets. And kroks (or alligators i always get the 2 confused) where already living when the dinosaurs did

I think you're getting the thought that it looks like a dinosaur from the (Jurassic Park where the Dilophosaurus has the frills on its neck) witch it did not have in real life, but i do believe that the Frilled Dragon was the inspiration.
We actually wouldn’t be able to tell if Dilophosaurus had frills, due to soft tissue not being conserved in fossils, though it would be unlikely
@@BaguetteHandler we can defer they didn't actually have frills due to their incredibly powerful bite force. (as seen through the double hinged jaw). They would only need a frill if they had no other self defense mechanisms.

I grew up in Darwin Australia, these are called Frilled Neck Lizards or Frillies for short. I remember digging up witchity grubs from Nana's compost bin and feeding them.
They can move fast and are a great sight to see in nature, especially when they feel threatened and show their frills

So not only is the frilled lizard not related to dinosaurs at best. It's a super distant cousin going back like thousands of generations, but you can't say that this acts like a dinosaur because since dinosaurs went extinct 66 million years ago, we have no idea how they behaved. The closest we can conceive is their modern descendants which would be just go to a pet shop and watch parakeets for a bit.

I've been looking for an Australian, and I had an Indonesian. They are great pets and can create a very strong bond with the owner.
