I personally feel Clyde is right in his ideals, and I don't know if it's right or wrong to say he took it too far. It depends on the context you're coming from personally I think And let's be real: Nick cheated the system to win. He broke into Clyde's property without a warrant and placed the bomb in Clyde's cell with the knowledge that this would kill him.
@@jaredswords3 except he didn't do his job He broke the rules twice to win from Clyde (broke into his property without a warrant and placed the bomb into Clyde's cell knowing it would kill him) That's why it's not the right ending
15:43. He needed to be alive to execute his plan, he couldn’t afford to be shot by the police. By being butt-ass naked, it reduced the chances of the cops thinking he could be armed.
Not only that, but his ENTIRE point was if they knew he was a killer, if at any point that had just shot him, it all would have stopped. He was using their own rules to prove to them how broken the system was. He killed Darby. They knew he killed Darby. If they had just busted in and taken him out, it would have stopped there.
Like many people, I really hated Nick. He really didn't care how many lives was destroyed as long as he had a high conviction rate and only started to care about "justice" when he was the one being affected by what was going on. Just as he proved with Darby. He didn't care if someone got away with murder. As long as he got to convict someone, it didn't matter if the one convicted was guilty or innocent.
"This is a victory for us." This line pisses me off so much every time I watch this. For Nick, it's his career and success, publicity and new clients. For Clyde, it's about carving out some slight bit of peace after everything he cared about was ripped from him, leaving him a hollow shell of a person. Nick took away Clyde's chance to heal because Darby destroyed his life and Nick used him as a bargaining chip to further his career.
Right?! It was absolutely NOT a victory, it was a travesty! It was so utterly infuriating that someone like Nick, a hot shot attorney, would not push harder for what was supposed to happen!
@orangehaw this was more of a Jamie Fox problem always wanting to win and look like a cool guy, wish he was put in his place like Tarantino did in Django (as was said by Fox in a howard stern interview)@@orangehaw

The ending has always annoyed me. The man is a genius with multiple backup plans for everything and he didn't devise a way to be alerted to someone coming through his tunnel? He didn't have an alternate escape route from the cell? The only explanation is he planned to die no matter what and he saw that he finally got his point across, so he figured that was the time. I'm not sure I would want to live after my wife and daughter were murdered either. That said, I have read that the ending was supposed to be Clyde living, but it was changed during production...allegedly because Foxx didn't want his character to lose. Don't know how true that is.
Not true at all. It’s said that the writers and producers had trouble with finding an ending to Nick’s character. There’s many alternative endings where Clyde still dies, but there’s trouble for Nick as well. Changes were constantly being made up to the end of filming because they weren’t happy.
I heard this as well. What a shame. I put this up there with 'Falling Dow;, as the two 90% brilliant movies, that seem to chicken out from the harder ending.
The ending scene where Nick spending time with his family. Gives me the vibe that he victimized himself as a survivor? Makes me wonder did he ever feel remorse for his decisions?
That was the quote of the movie Jamie's assistant before the blew up She said, I hope "I didn't give everything up for a high rate in convictions" This is what Jamie did, he sold that family out for a deal.
My brother was murdered 5 days before his sons (my nephews) first birthday. He was shot in the head and then had gasoline poured on him and was burnt. I had to watch my nephew open his birthday presents 5 days later with all his "Love Daddy" gifts. The guy who murdered him was out less than 6 years later (I'm in Canada). Sometimes when you want justice you DO have to go and get it yourself...
There is an original ending draft where Jamie's character loses and would go to jail and ends with him having to make a deal with the flawed system he works for. I really wish they stuck with that ending as this film you really wanted Gerald to succeed. Jamie's character sucked due to how he focused on his occupation where it affected his family life and Gerald just to maintain a perfect record.
"WELL IT'S NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, IT'S WHAT YOU CAN PROVE IN COURT! Didn't you tell me that once?!" Such a powerful movie, you guys have been systematically working your way through my personal unwritten top 100 movies steadily, I'm having an awesome time following yous two!
15:45 "why" Simple He's fully naked so they can't shoot him on a technicality. It's Swat that's picking him up, not regular police, and they absolutely can use deadly force if they deem it necessary Approaching them buck naked means they have 0 reason to suspect he's carrying a weapon, ergo, if they shoot him, he still wins
yeah its literally the one part of the plan he can't control. Once he's in jail, his leverage and preparations allow him complete control of the situation, but until then he's depending on others following rules he KNOWS they only use when convenient, so he tries to eliminate as many variables as possible.
Its one and the same... They are on different sides of the fence, but share the same motives. We have people like Matt Murdock because there are people that believe justice should be made regardless of the flaws of the justice systems. And we have people like Frank Castle because there are people that believe justice should be made regardless of the flaws of the justice systems.
Imagine Clyde and Frank Castle joining the team. Clyde as brain of the operation, Frank as the muscle. Pure destruction of the system, not even any secret agency would have a chance to stop them. And also taking out mobs and mafias one by one.
"Are you doing this for a high conviction rate?" "So you want me to violate his civil rights? Okay, I'm game." "I'm a judge, I can pretty much do whatever I want." "Fuck his civil rights". The movie has lines like this where it shows the system is broken. Proving Clyde right. How Jamie's character is just making deals for a high conviction rate to make himself look good.
And yet there are always sheeps who will root for system (Nick) and call Clyde a villain, because they have nice comfort zone in this Capitalistic period of time and can't imagine to have anything else.
@@Gylaran There's nothing wrong with capitalism - in fact it's the only system that proved to work consistently. Everything else failed miserably, often killing the people who adopted them.
Don't be so quick to buy what Nick said; about "At least they get some justice". He was a highly ambitious climber. The only thing on his mind was how to use a high conviction rate as a stepping stone. His motivation for the deal was corrupt, no matter how he prettied it up with his own justification. I love this movie, and I'm so happy you guys watched it. :)
The thing I love about this movie is that they had to break several laws in order to beat him, which is part of his whole point. The system is broken. At every level.
@@fairshareofdrownedsouls unrelated. One is recognizing his mistakes, another was learning from his actions. He learned how to win. But never recognized his mistakes.
@@alicepbg2042 Nick may have never admitted having any part in how it played out, but he did get it at the very end - when he said "I don't make deals with murderers Clyde, you taught me that". Too little too late, but he got it.
15:44 I always figured he got naked so they knew he wasn’t hiding anything. Not a lot of need to pat down and search someone when you can see everything. So he gets naked and immediately into a nonthreatening and submissive response to make it faster and easier to take him into custody without concerns for their own safety. De escalates the situation while also being kind of an F you to them lol
actually it wasn't the reason. The reason he was undressing to be fully na ked when police came for him, is to make sure they don't plant anything on his body, like planting dr ugs into pocket, etc, so they won't have anything to imprison him (ike drug possession or having a knife or gun related to some crime) outside of that case m which he was fully in control. For example police could've easily change the initial report by adding that he had a gun or drugs on him, so this would've given them reason to put him in custody.
@@anonymousfx5254 but he wanted to be in police custody. He wanted to be arrested it was always part of his plan. I have a hard time thinking he did it to avoid them planting things on him when he was ultimately confessing to murder anyways
@@tylerdurden5406 he went into custody under certain case, which he planned for years. He was playing with them to give confession cause they had 0 evidence at start and couldn't prove his guilt and if he didn't explode on judge- he would've go free. He wanted them to follow the game he planned. He had years to study and he knew what police does and can do whenever it benefits officials. They could've changed the initial report and stating that he had a knife with Darby's blood or he had a drugs on him in his pocket so they had an excuse to keep him in custody and whole plan he had to mock the judge would've failed, but since all they had is 1 case for which they had 0 evidence, he was able to continue his game and mocked the judge as he planned initially.
@@anonymousfx5254 the mistake here is assuming mocking the judge was a means to anything other than to annoy her. He mocked he proved a point that he could’ve gone free but he ultimately wanted to be in solitary confinement. Planting evidence- which is in itself pretty rare realistically and unnecessary in this case as a knife on his person wouldn’t have mattered nor would having a gun as he was in his own home. Drugs might do something but again he’s accused of murder. The facts are in a tense high pressure and stress situation like that with the SWAT team coming in full tactical gear - they’re more likely to shoot first and ask questions later. But if he’s naked on his knees hands behind his head it gives them the illusion of safety and full control. Meanwhile he’s actually in full control.
When this movie 1st came out to buy, My cousins & i did a weekend visit with my 82 yr old grandma, the sweetest little southern baptist lady who was dangerously naive & never uttered a single cuss word in her life. One evening she puts in a DVD for a movie she tells us is her new favorite & we should all watch it. My cousins & i of course, act excited but considering she used to make us fast forward thru the "racy" parts of Forrest Gump as kids, we weren't expecting anything too intense. None of us had seen it, so imagine our suprise when she the movie starts & it's THIS!! Grandma went savage on us. *RIP grandma~ we miss u!❤
That is a nice story. What exactly your grandma loved about this movie? Because religious people are all for the system and law and this movie is a war against system and the law. :) Everyone who likes it have a little side of an anarchy in the heart.
That's actually one of the more annoying plot holes There's no way in hell the warden would have let it go through bone-in. He would have had them remove the bone and just deliver the meat. You even see it start to go through the X-ray, where they definitely would have seen the sharp bone inside
@@xaderalert Or, they saw no feasible reason a guy demanding a T-bone steak would have any use for a simple bone that may or may not be sharp. It certainly wouldn't surprise me to see a T-bone going through an X-ray and it having a bone in it. I wouldn't blink twice because the situation was already odd, and who would gut someone with a damn bone in prison after 'getting his way'? Way I see it, it was too obvious as a weapon in too weird of a request that it wasn't considered a weapon because the weird part was the steak. Not the bone. So all the attention in the warden and everyone else went to the steak, not the bone.
@@xaderalert I dont think it would matter, he could have split the wooden spork through the middle leaving a sharp end. With the music at full volume the cellmate would not even notice the action of breaking it. Stranger things have been used as knifes in prison.
I don’t care for Nick’s character. Even though he learns to stop cutting deals with murders and to value his family time, it’s just too little too late. Nick shows how corrupt the system is that at no point is he in the wrong. When a system is broken it’s time to tear it down.
Honestly completely agree! Nick has no redeeming qualities to me. At no point was I rooting for him to win. I wanted Clyde to burn everything to the ground that has to do with his family’s case 🤷🏻♀️
One thing I dislike the thing is: Nick doesn't have any redeeming actions or redeeming arc in this film. Just because you had kid's and you are good father to them, doesn't redeem Nick's actions. Also he doesn't even seem to care Clyde or even acknowledge even later that he should have done differently. Also, originally Nick was meant to die to redeem his actions but Jamie Foxx managed pull strings to change end. Only thing I hate this film is the end, when another bad guy, Nick wins. to me there's no heroes in this film. Only bad guys and victims. Amazing film though.
Nicks line " i dont do deals with murderers anymore" means Clydes point was finally seen. Nick is now the top and has learned the fking lesson Clyde wanted him to learn. So the justice system is going to improve (in this movies world anyways).
@@pingidjithe didn't learn a damn thing. He only didn't go for the deal because he got lucky with Chester and sabotaged Clyde. If he didn't have that info, he would take Clyde's deal. The point was to not only not make deals with criminals, but also not to cut corners to project an air of perfection, to play by the book because in the end that is what mattered to Clyde - he said so himself as "you could've walked out of the courtroom with your head held high, I could've lived with that". Nick *failed* to do that on his own and had to use underhanded means in order to beat Clyde
Guys… you have GOT to react to “Children of Men” with Clive Owen. One of my favorite movies ever. I know you guys will love it. The editing and pacing is masterful, as well as the direction from Alfonso Cuarón. When the topic of ‘edge of your seat’ tension comes up, this movie is towards the very top of that list.
Such a great movie, that just really botched up the ending. No way should Nick have outsmarted Clyde. And he ends up learning absolutely nothing. Personally I would have wanted Clyde's entire plan to run out as planned. And then the very final step would be to put Nick's family in danger, the only chance he had for saving them was to kill Clyde himself, thereby doing what needs to be done. Once Clyde's project was over there was no need for him to keep on living, he'd want to be with his family. And Nick would have to break every principle he believed in to save the ones he loved thereby proving the faults of the system.
Another film within this genre and with much better tension is The Next Three Days with Russel Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde, and Liam Neeson. A film no reaction channel has yet reviewed. One of my favorite films to recommend since most people haven't seen it.
Only people who have no one to lean on go into shady black ops stuff. And one of the best minds in that decides to settle down and two idiots rob and assault his wife and daughter. Now again he has nothing to lose but a heart filled with vengeance.. That's a very dangerous enemy you made for yourself
I always believed that Clyde dying was always the plan. After all he did, no way he wouldn’t get the death penalty. Now, how in the world they got back to the cell to put the bomb in, handcuff it, and all before Clyde himself made it back, that screams rushed finishing of the script. But even tho the “wrong side won”, Clyde did everything he needed to. Got his revenge or Darby and Ames, proved to everyone in that world how broken the system was, and taught Nick to be better. He may not have lived, but he most definitely didn’t lose.
I love this movie. It is absolutely one of my favorites. Gerard was interviewed about this movie and he said he loved playing Clyde and was very surprised when he snuck into a showing and saw that the audience didn’t turn on Clyde like he thought they would. Also if you liked this movie I suggest American Gangster if you haven’t seen it. It has Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe and it’s a true story.
I kept waiting for the moment that jamie foxx tried to take his tie off at the end of the day after his daughter's recital and choke to death by the zip wire they talked about earlier in the film.
@@davidward9737 from a writers stand point I thought that's where it was heading given that was very specific story of how he killed a man without being in the room. It would also leave him for last echoing the line,"If Clyde wants you dead you're dead." Also Nick really didn't do enough to redeem himself he got his entire team killed and he got a promotion to DA.
One person being judge, jury, and executioner is wrong, and just because the legal system is flawed doesn't mean anyone involved with it deserves to be murdered. I swear fans of this movie are psychos.
What he did was definitely wrong. It’s completely understandable, but that doesn’t make it okay. Killing the two that were there wasn’t wrong, but then he killed a bunch of other people who didn’t actually do something wrong to him. Nick I would have understood bc he didn’t even talk to him before he made that deal, or even try, but everyone else was fucked up.
@@mistyxmarlboro He was waiting at any time for Jamie Foxx to learn his lesson and he stubbornly refused. It was sad for the other attorneys but even then Jamie Foxx did not take any responsibility. Not till the end. Clyde smiled because he was satisfied that Foxx finally learned his lesson.
I personally hated this ending and prefer the true end where he succeeded and won. The movie chocked and did a turn around and gave the win to the lawyer undeservedly. its such a anticlimactic ending without a resolution as he up to the end did not change his mind on his corrupted belief of justice, that he uses it as a way for him to win. The change where nick wins makes no since as nick was always 10 steps behind, always refusing to admit his mistake to the ending.
It is indeed very anticlimactic as it does not make sense for Clyde to be so meticulous and successful and just suddenly fail so much like that. In reality it would have taken several sequels before there was a realistic chance Nick could have eventually changed his tactics and attitude and eventually prevailed over Clyde.
Everyone believes that Clyde is after revenge. But that wasn't it - at least, not until the very end. He really was teaching Nick a lesson. Nick had always put his professional ambitions above EVERYTHING. He put his ambitions above the pursuit of justice for Clyde's family, and he even put it above his very own family. In their final scene together, Nick informs Clyde that he no longer makes deals with murderers. And in the very final scene, Nick puts his family before his job by finally going to one of his daughter's recitals. At the very end of it all, Clyde won.
Uhh. NO. clyde did not win. as yes yer partially right, Nick No longer makes deals with Scum. But guess what, There's HUNDREDS and maybe even THOUSANDS More Lawyers who also WILL make Deals... For every Lawyer who wont make a Deal, There will ALWAYS be another who WILL make a Deal. What Clyde did was ALL FOR NOTHING. the LAw and Justice system is STILL UP and Running and also, Clyde tore apart some innocent family's. Was Nick the Good guy, No he's Not. But Clyde, he's a MONSTER. Losing his family was Tragic and See the main guy who did it get a reduced sentence, TERRIBLE and HORRIBLE. But that is NO Excuse for Terrorist attacking the city.
The irony of this movie is that the means they tried to go to punish Clyde for outsmarting them is happening in real life to people who never committed any crimes except for the crime of the system just not liking them. Like what the mayor and the judge said, whatever legal loophole they can use to violate a man’s god given rights they will use to remain in power they will do.
The Mayor was NOT "Violating" Anything! She was Trying to Defend the City! as Look at Clyde, this guy is PISSED off cause of what happened to his family. Make no mistake, IM ALSO MAD, Nick made a deal to Keep up his Conviction Rates, THATS MESSED UP. But CLyde is Also messed up. As some say Nick does not care About Justice Just so Long as he Keep's his High Rates up, well Look At Clyde, he also does not care about the Lives of Innocent People JUST so Long as he Can Unleash ALL his Rage on the City. As Clyde, he's not Getting Justice for his family, all he is doing is Attacking And terror-Bombing a great City ALL because He cant See the Truth, which is What he's doing is Not gonna solve or fix anything. Its not gonna bring his family Back and its not just instantly gonna "FIX" the Law. Is the Law Flawed, Yes it is. But also, Clyde delusionally believing he can make the world a better place by Using terrorism is also Flawed and CRAZY. CLyde lost his family, Its Terrible. Well all the Innocent people he killed who HAD NOTHING AT ALL to do with the deal and Also, Had their OWN Family's. and What Clyde did, he ruined these family's. CLyde's a hypocrite. As here he is, Berating the Law for not punishing darby and ames and yet, Clyde has BECOME Worse then darby. as darby, He was not threating the WHOLE CITY.
@@seanmager1168 what I’m pointing out is that the people in charge of the legal system were also willing to break Clyde’s god given rights in order to stop him before they even realized he was doing everything on his own. Really? That’s kinda disappointing. It seems the studio changed it so that we wouldn’t have “the guy that offed so many wins” The ending could’ve been polished a bit more for sure!
I have always felt that Clyde was planning on holding himself accountable it's just that Nick uncovered things before he got the chance to do his final act. Clyde knew with all the crimes and murders he committed he was going to die, he wasn't planning on living much longer because there was nothing worth living for. He only lived the last 10 years to show them how messed up the system is and teach Nick the lessons.
This movie is a classic because the interrogation room scene is a lot like Heath Ledger’s joker interrogation where it’s the mentor getting into the head of the apprentice
It never ceases to amaze me that most everyone who watches this movie thinks that Jamie Foxx outsmarted Clyde at the end. Why would someone so meticulous leave a bomb in the middle of a room? He wanted Foxx to find it and hoped he would do the right thing by bringing it to his cell. To do what had to be done meaning he had learned his lesson. Clyde wanted to be with his family again. He got exactly what he wanted
I wouldn't push it that far. The only reason why the bomb was found is because Nick broke the rules twice (illegal investigation concerning Clyde's properties + invasion without a warrant). Clyde's planning was under the assumption that Nick would follow the rules.
This is one of my favorite F. Gary Gray movies. Friday was his directorial debut. He played the guy in the corner store "Man get yo punk-ass up, it ain't even wet over here"😆
He got naked so the cops will know that he isn't concealing any weapons. Especially after cutting someone into 25 pieces, the cops would consider him extremely dangerous.
Yeah i never understood until i had my son . I Know for a fact sadly, i would be that kinda parent. I know for a fact i would become that monster if someone hurt or did worst to my child , literally. What i love about this channel is how long the reactions are. Even though they can't show all the minutes of the movies, they show enough to give you the whole picture of the movie and feel like you aren't missing out on key moments in the movie.
Great reaction, ya'll! But I do need to correct one thing, if I may. "That's what Matt Murdock is for." It should've been "That's what Frank Castle is for."
Chisel Vs. Hammer. Matt decided to go the DD route because he too realizes he can only do so much if he stays within the boundaries of the law. He gets them locked up. Frank gives them the express pass to hell 😅
The injustice in this movie requires a blind justice that MM/DD just can't see. FC is more eye-for-eye. That's all my bad jokes against the sight impaired. I was lucky enough to see this on the Silver Screen in a theater alone. I cheered out loud with my Dark Humor.
one of my fave Punisher lines was "killing people is wrong, killing a killer still doesn't change how many killers are in the world" "yeah, that's why I kill more than one"
Reaaaaly weird reactions guys but love it. I have never been happier every time Clyde took justice into his own hands. Everything as _justifiable_ Sad about the ending that the villain won...
36:35 was a big important point. Hell Clyde knew what happened and hated Darby got no punishment. He got a deal which Clyde didn't agree to. In law, many attorneys want a high rate over listening to their client's story.
The ending was such a copout, honestly. If you're going to make a brutal vengeance flick, stick to it and make it a brutal vengeance flick. Don't fluff out at the end!
The issue with making the villain win in this film is that it send the wrong message about what real justice is at the end when it spent all the film explaining how that form of justice was justified. They only ended it this way so they wouldn’t be accused of inciting violence otherwise it makes no sense, yes it’s real life and in reality that would probably be the ending but it’s still frustrating and confusing because they also made the ending message is that violence solved violence so that’s an immediate contradiction to what they were trying to say by this subpar ending. Clyide became an extremist because of a corrupt system so you make the corrupt system win ? Come on now 😅😂 On a more positive and less infuriating note, the action was super impactful and made you feel anxious every min during which is what it should do. The acting was also chefs kiss especially by GB . And as per usual phenomenal reaction and discussion. Love you guys to bits ❤

I am REALLY conflicted about this movie. On the one hand, Clyde is an INCREDIBLE antagonist. The performance, the Saw-like planning, the backstory... You're right. You're rooting for this guy for the most part. But then he crosses the line and starts killing everyone who was even peripherally involved with his case and he loses the moral high ground. And then the car bombs just solidify him as a zealot who doesn't care who he hurts to make his point. That's incredible, but the movie kind of lost me right at the end when Nick dismissed the idea of civil rights to break into the warehouse. And then planted the bomb in the cell. He turned into the same kind of zealot Clyde had become, took matters into his own hands and dealt "justice" on the fly. No trial. No judge. Nothing. He had Clyde dead to rights and decided to just off him. I still love this movie, but it really lost me at the end. Oh, and that bit with the exploding cell phone is SUCH a good jump scare even though this isn't a horror movie.
Probably because at the end Nick is never shown acnowledging this. He just walks away and returns to his family. There's never a moment where he truly stops and says to himself "I had to turn into Clyde and abuse the system to stop the killer, working for the system didn't work".
In the begining he walked out naked to prevent himself being shot. Hands in the air with no closes on shows he had no hidden weapon. You cannot justify shooting an unarmed man.
Loved this movie, saw it in the theatre. HATED THE ENDING 😡 This fix is simple. At the end all you need is some offscreen dialogu, overheard by the camera, that they didnt find a body in the cell. BAM! FIXED!. LETS GOOOOO!!! 💪😎💪
FYI, I live in Philly and the guy who held the bible while Foxx was sworn in was Mayor Nutter of Philadelphia at the time the movie was released. Also, nice to see O'Brien in something else other than Star Trek: TNG and Deep Space Nine.
This movie is so underrated. I dont think Clyde took it to far, he had every right to do what he did in my opinion. If people and lawyers only think about themselves and wich gender to hate more then another I think they deserv everything that is coming to them honestly.... This is probebly the best movie Ive seen BUT!!!!!!!: This movie had a written other ending but Jamie fox did'nt wanna do the role if the good guys was'nt winning... Abit ironic is'nt it?
Love this movie as much as I "hate" it. 1. Wrong party won 2. Jamie Foxx' caracter shows 0 growth 3. During the entire movie "the system" keeps making up s*** to justify their rottenness, from lawyers to judges to the mayor The annoying thing about American movies is the unwritten rule that the villain can not prevail at the end. And that resulted in this lousy ending
unwritten rule that the villain can not prevail at the end I mean... SAW had villain won so not true. And Foxx character learned from Clyde he could stop him and gave him death sentence for bombing city hall but he stopped him not by the bomb. He stopped making deal with murderess
this movie got swept under back then because of whole superhero genre's immersion. yea that's true. a lot of great movies like this were unnoticed between 2008-2012. heck in 2012 the only movie people were talking about was 2012 movie.
Every time I see this movie I always wonder if he planned for every scenario and every version of that scenario how many branches were set up, but never used? I wonder how many people were still tied up somewhere, unexploded bombs, who knows what waiting for their part that never happened😂
There’s a lingering question as to whether Clyde - despite what he claims - is after change or vengeance and the plot of the movie heavily leans towards the latter. This unfortunately hurts Clyde as a character because he’s spoken about as this hyper efficient being at getting things done and his claims in the movie would have you believe that he wants to change the system and hold people accountable. While killing the original perpetrators was a given, it doesn’t make sense to kill anyone else because if they’re dead, they can’t take any accountability.
I see that few have understood the meaning and above all the reason why Gerard Butler did all this, he was happy in the end to die because his intent was to transform people like Jamie Foxx into people who truly do justice. And in the end he succeeded as Jamie Fox did not come to terms with him... Butler's intent had been achieved and therefore he was proud of the fact that he managed to ensure that justice was always done despite everything!
I ADORE this movie because it highlights so many critical issues in the justice system that people never think about. Wish it was a requirement for anyone involved in the justice system to watch it.
In the end Nick became a murderer and vigilante as well. Once they had the storage locker and tunnels, they could have transferred Clyde to a jail elsewhere until all access points to the jail were blocked. Tried him for all the murders he committed with all the evidence they got. (clothes, napalm, electronics, etc). Instead Nick brought the bomb he knew would be set off into the cell and used it to kill a man. It might also kill others in that prison. Nick became the very desperation that Clyde started out as. But Clyde had hope in the justice system and it failed him. Nick was the justice system and failed it.
Fun fact: Originally Jamie Foxx through casting was supposed to play Gerard Butler's character but Foxx really pushed to swap roles and the director and producers agreed. Which acting wise was obviously the better choice for their roles. Love your all's reactions. ❤
Loved this one I think he Did hold himself accountable in the end . . his smile when he said finally, I have always had the feeling he had Something planned but never got to go through with it
Interesting! Would’ve loved to see what he had planned for himself. Could’ve been a cool scene, after Clyde’s death they find a manifesto or something!
🙏Keep it rolling with another Jamie Foxx movie "Collateral" that he did alongside Tom Cruise which earned him an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor in 2005. I didnt see it in your YT library of reactions content in case you haven't seen it already. Great reaction.👏🏾
This movie represents the lengths a man would go to avenge his family. I love it. The dedication and commitment Butler had to his family honor is relatable.
It's actually a huge compliment to the film that we truly understood Clyde and his rage and grief - he received no closure or justice, nothing to ease his pain. Imagine having to live with that for years??
@@OfficialMediaKnights The look on his face after he sees Nick shake hands with Darby explains it all. Gerard Butler's a pretty versatile actor having seen him in this and "300" and "The Ugly Truth." I personally feel Clyde is right in his ideals, and I don't know if it's right or wrong to say he took it too far. It depends on the context you're coming from personally I think
And let's be real: Nick cheated the system to win. He broke into Clyde's property without a warrant and placed the bomb in Clyde's cell with the knowledge that this would kill him.
The only bad thing about this movie is that the wrong side won
There is something that feels wrong about Clyde's ending for sure - hopefully his actions forced them to actually make changes in the justice system!
Yup. ending totally ruined the movie (ok, maybe not) but jamie should have died in that cell with clyde
BIG FACTS
It wasn't about winning or losing. It was about forced the DA to do his job and think.
@@jaredswords3 except he didn't do his job
He broke the rules twice to win from Clyde (broke into his property without a warrant and placed the bomb into Clyde's cell knowing it would kill him)
That's why it's not the right ending
15:43. He needed to be alive to execute his plan, he couldn’t afford to be shot by the police. By being butt-ass naked, it reduced the chances of the cops thinking he could be armed.
Looove that he thought through every single thing! After all the effort, he was not going to put his life into the hands of those who failed him
Also they needed an excuse to show Gerard Butler's ass
Not only that, but his ENTIRE point was if they knew he was a killer, if at any point that had just shot him, it all would have stopped. He was using their own rules to prove to them how broken the system was. He killed Darby. They knew he killed Darby. If they had just busted in and taken him out, it would have stopped there.
When they filmed this the swat crew did not know he was going to be naked. Butler just did that to mess with them.
Or shooting him outright and claiming later he had a weapon. Guy was smart af!

That was the quote of the movie Jamie's assistant before the blew up
She said, I hope "I didn't give everything up for a high rate in convictions"
This is what Jamie did, he sold that family out for a deal.
I would be waiting for that guy as soon as he was released.

15:45 "why"
Simple
He's fully naked so they can't shoot him on a technicality. It's Swat that's picking him up, not regular police, and they absolutely can use deadly force if they deem it necessary
Approaching them buck naked means they have 0 reason to suspect he's carrying a weapon, ergo, if they shoot him, he still wins
Niiiice, thank you so much for explaining that to us!! Makes a lot of sense and also adds to Clyde's foresight, once more!
@@OfficialMediaKnights Yeah, Clyde genuinely is a genius, but I guess that's what 10 years of prep gets ya haha
yeah its literally the one part of the plan he can't control. Once he's in jail, his leverage and preparations allow him complete control of the situation, but until then he's depending on others following rules he KNOWS they only use when convenient, so he tries to eliminate as many variables as possible.

Don't be so quick to buy what Nick said; about "At least they get some justice". He was a highly ambitious climber.
He did it to make sure he didn't get shot and accidently killed. Smart
@@anonymousfx5254 but he wanted to be in police custody. He wanted to be arrested it was always part of his plan. I have a hard time thinking he did it to avoid them planting things on him when he was ultimately confessing to murder anyways

I wouldn't blink twice because the situation was already odd, and who would gut someone with a damn bone in prison after 'getting his way'? Nick shows how corrupt the system is that at no point is he in the wrong. When a system is broken it’s time to tear it down.
Honestly completely agree! Nick has no redeeming qualities to me. At no point was I rooting for him to win. I wanted Clyde to burn everything to the ground that has to do with his family’s case 🤷🏻♀️
I actually liked the grey morality of all the characters. It was different.

This dude was a one man army! They really messed with the wrong one.
The original ending was him winning, but Jamie Foxx didn't like it so they changed the ending and ruined it.
I feel the same, he doesn't wan't to live anymore because he lost his family and the whole point was to change Nick's view of the system
I love this movie. It is absolutely one of my favorites. Gerard was interviewed about this movie and he said he loved playing Clyde and was very surprised when he snuck into a showing and saw that the audience didn’t turn on Clyde like he thought they would.
@@jasonaugustine3370 so he killed other people...how is that right? How at that point was he any better than the men who killed his family?
@@mistyxmarlboro I agree.
At the very end of it all, Clyde won.
and he killed 6 cops in the process. Clyde was no better.
Uhh. NO. clyde did not win. as yes yer partially right, Nick No longer makes deals with Scum.
Denise laughing in pure bliss to instant shock and horror was priceless
The judge literally says this before she dies and agrees to do it. I’m saying in the real world this happens too.
@@quadboy4lyfe What the judge meant was she can answer her Cell-Phone ANYTIME she wants. That's what she Meant, as they were Talking about and sorta making a Joke about Cell-PHone's. Besides, Just Please tell me your sane and rational enough to see that Clyde is a TRUE Villain. as what he's Doing, NOTHING about it is Justifiable. As he KILLED Innocent People. Darby's Lawyer, the Judge, Nick's Intern's and assistants, they did nothing wrong. They were Following the Law EXACTLY how it written. they Abided by the Procedures and played By the Book's. Like how I 1nce heard on Law and Order SVU, some1 Said 1nce, "Look i did not Create the Law Ok??? ALL I do is follow it and Play By its Rules as its whats Right. I dont Control the Law. and I dont have the power to change it."
Besides what Clyde is doing, it changed nothing. As other lawyers WILL make deals. Just cause nick says he wont make Deals with scum Anymore that still dont change the fact other Lawyers are out There and some WILL STILL Make Deals. ALL clyde did is become what he Hated and do the SAME Stuff which happened to his family. Yeah Clyde did not rape any1 But he still Took family's Loved 1's from them.
@@seanmager1168 no it wasn’t about answering the phone. They were talking about putting him in solitary confinement without any reason at all and taking away his access to yard time and phone calls. I got the clip right here: ruclips.net/video/UjbRnmJrWIQ/видео.htmlsi=sGgMxba7Ge-C1PL4
Yes Clyde is a bad guy I’m not denying that but you’re not hearing me. The criticism of the legal system the movie is pointing out is real. I’m not saying that means I condone vigilanteism but violating people’s rights is not acceptable.
@@quadboy4lyfe Uh NO. I AM Hearing you. Im Just saying as Flawed as the Justice and Legal system is, Clyde is WAY WORSE and also, What Nick and Jonas were proposing, And also like the judge said was JUST Temporary and also, I DID support what they were Doing. A Guy that slippery who was Somehow STILL Getting people Killed though he's Locked Up, as they had NO IDEA How he's Doing it, I AGREE they NEEDED to REALLY Take Drastic measures with Clyde. sometimes Bending the STepping outside the Law a TINY BIT to stop some1 who'd Blow up WHOLE Building's filled with people to Just Make Nick Hurt and Feel bad is TOTALL UNDERSTANDABLE. BEsides, This is allowed. when some1 THIS DANGEROUS is Threatening the City, eventually at 1 point, Its ALL OFF. We just go after These Maniac's with SWAT and stuff. I May not agree with Nick On the deal Like i said, But id DO ANYTHING to protect the city. as in, IF Clyde By ANY CHANCE Got his hands on a Nuke, I DO Believe he'd Use it.
Law Abiding Citizen has to be the craziest underdog movie there is. People have no idea what they're in for when they start to watch it.
And I have yet to hear someone NOT be POSITIVELY surprised after watching it. Looking forward to seeing this reaction and the review :D Because for me it's one of the few 10/10 there is.
You never been to the internet? Dude, a huge majority of people hate the ending. They were surprised alright, but not positively. It's a great movie with a bad or lacking ending.

Gerard Butler played a great Antagonist in this movie, he should've won an Oscar for his flawless acting in this movie
Clyde was the hero.
@@yusufraage8554 Heroes can be antagonists. It's all perspective, but the antagonist was actively causing damage, the protagonist was trying to prevent the damage. Simple as, but not quite.
@@SantaClaus-kk8zr In this movies context all are antagonist except Clyde because they were causing damage on a huge scale. Clyde prevented most of the damage because he killed murders and corupt judges. Clyde was going after the people that were complicit in his fanillies deaths.
Truly underrated movie! Doesn't get talked about at all. Rumor is Jamie Fox wanted his character to win and forced them to change the ending.
Really? That’s kinda disappointing. It seems the studio changed it so that we wouldn’t have “the guy that offed so many wins” The ending could’ve been polished a bit more for sure!
I heard that too
Could very well have been the studio. That's just the rumor I've always heard is that Fox made a huge deal about it.
@mnemonic1363 wow, he's just like his character in this movie, corrupt and a cheat
If that's true that means Jamie is a dick
Another good movie of revenge is, as Denise said, "Man on Fire". Onenof Denzel Washington's BEST movies and such a tearjerker.
That movie is fire.
I hated the ending. I wanted Clyde to get them all 😆 The Judge scene was something else, wasn't it.
This movie is a classic because the interrogation room scene is a lot like Heath Ledger’s joker interrogation where it’s the mentor getting into the head of the apprentice
The power dynamic in that scene and the acting alone made this film worth the watch!
Clyde's planning was under the assumption that Nick would follow the rules.
yeah, i figured that as well, if he didnt find out, or left it where it was at, then clyde would just keep going till he did, but he did learn.
You know the therm mama bear ,its more then just protective , you really don't what to hurt someones child or family because justice won't even matter.
Oh I fully understand him getting revenge and I definitely condone it.
Django vs King Leonidis 😂😂
If you look at history, Leonidas was a pedo, a rapist and a slave owner piece of garbage. Basically the opposite of what 300 makes him out to be.
What i love about this channel is how long the reactions are. Even though they can't show all the minutes of the movies, they show enough to give you the whole picture of the movie and feel like you aren't missing out on key moments in the movie.
Great reaction, ya'll!
But I do need to correct one thing, if I may.
"That's what Matt Murdock is for."
It should've been
"That's what Frank Castle is for."
Chisel Vs.
I cheered out loud with my Dark Humor.
one of my fave Punisher lines was
"killing people is wrong, killing a killer still doesn't change how many killers are in the world"
"yeah, that's why I kill more than one"
The ringtone Darby has is also on the Dracula 2000 soundtrack
Butler played Dracula
In the same vein you must watch Death Sentence... a 2007 American vigilante action thriller film directed by James Wan and starring Kevin Bacon.
What's disgusting is that The System does not care about the law abiding citizen ... but it cares very much about everyone else, it seems.
Reaaaaly weird reactions guys but love it.
I have never been happier every time Clyde took justice into his own hands. Everything as _justifiable_
Sad about the ending that the villain won...
Jamie foxx threw a temper tantrum and demanded they rewrite the end. He was supposed to burn.
@@andrewscharbarth2099source?
The issue with making the villain win in this film is that it send the wrong message about what real justice is at the end when it spent all the film explaining how that form of justice was justified. They only ended it this way so they wouldn’t be accused of inciting violence otherwise it makes no sense, yes it’s real life and in reality that would probably be the ending but it’s still frustrating and confusing because they also made the ending message is that violence solved violence so that’s an immediate contradiction to what they were trying to say by this subpar ending. Clyide became an extremist because of a corrupt system so you make the corrupt system win ? Come on now 😅😂
On a more positive and less infuriating note, the action was super impactful and made you feel anxious every min during which is what it should do. The acting was also chefs kiss especially by GB .
And as per usual phenomenal reaction and discussion. Love you guys to bits ❤
Would have honestly forgiven the villain winning in any other film except this one 😂
gerard butler is an absolutely amazing actori will say that any movie he is in is automatically at least a 5/10 for me. Y'all should DEFINITELY check out The Gamer.
The smug judge karma scene was the best 🤣
27:53--In case you never realized it, he killed the dude so he could be put in solitary, which im sure you'll figure out as you progress through the movie.
Worst... ending... ever.
Clyde's character deserved so much better at the end.
What I like about you guys is you are genuine. A lot of reactors put on an exaggerated front, fake personality, shout/talk over the movie/show/song, etc. You guys are nothing like that. Just chill people who you feel like you’re hanging out with instead of watching react.
Well the issue that bothers you is actually the whole point of the movie.
For real how did you miss the point?
Probably because at the end Nick is never shown acnowledging this. He just walks away and returns to his family. There's never a moment where he truly stops and says to himself "I had to turn into Clyde and abuse the system to stop the killer, working for the system didn't work".
In the begining he walked out naked to prevent himself being shot. Hands in the air with no closes on shows he had no hidden weapon. You cannot justify shooting an unarmed man.
happens in real life all the time.
Loved this movie, saw it in the theatre. HATED THE ENDING 😡
This fix is simple. At the end all you need is some offscreen dialogu, overheard by the camera, that they didnt find a body in the cell. BAM! FIXED!.
LETS GOOOOO!!! 💪😎💪
Why? Clyde didnt want to live anyway. Even if he did blow up city hall he would get a chair and get his point across
My favorite thing is in the original script the roles were reversed, Jamie was clyde and while filming Gerald suggested they switch
You want another movie like this but even more of a sleeper…?
Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon.
FYI, I live in Philly and the guy who held the bible while Foxx was sworn in was Mayor Nutter of Philadelphia at the time the movie was released.
Also, nice to see O'Brien in something else other than Star Trek: TNG and Deep Space Nine.
"Thats why we've got people like Matt Murdock."
With respect my friend I think this is how guys like Frank Castle are made.
This movie is so underrated.
I dont think Clyde took it to far, he had every right to do what he did in my opinion.
If people and lawyers only think about themselves and wich gender to hate more then another I think they deserv everything that is coming to them honestly.... This is probebly the best movie Ive seen BUT!!!!!!!:
This movie had a written other ending but Jamie fox did'nt wanna do the role if the good guys was'nt winning...
Abit ironic is'nt it?
Love this movie as much as I "hate" it.
1. Wrong party won
2. Jamie Foxx' caracter shows 0 growth
3. During the entire movie "the system" keeps making up s*** to justify their rottenness, from lawyers to judges to the mayor
The annoying thing about American movies is the unwritten rule that the villain can not prevail at the end. And that resulted in this lousy ending
unwritten rule that the villain can not prevail at the end
I mean...
For me, this type of revenge IS justice!
If you enjoy movies with this type of premise. You would love "Death Sentence". Starring Kevin Bacon. It's an awesome film.
Every time I see this movie I always wonder if he planned for every scenario and every version of that scenario how many branches were set up, but never used? I wonder how many people were still tied up somewhere, unexploded bombs, who knows what waiting for their part that never happened😂
One of the most controversial movies, for its ending. When most people agree that Clyde should have won, there's a problem with the system.
So glad to see you do a reaction to this. One of my absolute favourite Gerard butler movies. And a great story. As always stay amazing
Death Sentence (2007 film) is a good one
Dude went all Doc Holiday! I was just playing. I wasn't! GAME OVER MAN! GAME OVER!
Bill Paxton. Hudson from Aliens. Game over man Game over. Line was improvised
its a revenge story, kind of like "Redo of a healer" :D
42:42 liquefied Kermit the Frog - He's that ruthless!
I ADORE this movie because it highlights so many critical issues in the justice system that people never think about. Wish it was a requirement for anyone involved in the justice system to watch it.
My all time favourite revenge movie!! ✊❤
The fact that Jamie has all those deaths on his conscience because he wanted 96% conviction rate how could you live with your self
Fun fact: Originally Jamie Foxx through casting was supposed to play Gerard Butler's character but Foxx really pushed to swap roles and the director and producers agreed. Which acting wise was obviously the better choice for their roles. Love your all's reactions. ❤

Gerard Butler's a pretty versatile actor having seen him in this and "300" and "The Ugly Truth."
