    Clyde wanted him to stop compromising and making deals with criminals. That's why he kept giving them the opportunity to not making deals with him, they kept failing and compromising with him.

    • @sharkdentures3247
      @sharkdentures3247 17 дней назад +9

      1,000%! I think that is how Clyde was able to morally justify his actions. He set it ALL up like a long corridor with a Door at the end that leads to a horrible death. But ALL along the corridor are Exit doors on each wall. All Nick had to do was make the "right" choice & he would walk out one of those exits.
      I also TOTALLY believe that IF Nick had NEVER initially offered a "deal" (and accepted a "loss" of a court case) Clyde would have abandoned his plans & it would have ended there.
      Which I why (IMO) he gets that evil smile on his face when Nick asks him, "What do you want?" in the interrogation room! He is probably thinking, "I see. You have NOT reformed/ changed/ repented, at ALL! You are STILL what I HATE about the legal system. OK, Plan: Destruction, it is.".

      The rumor has always been that Jaime Foxx threw a fit over the original ending, which had Clyde killing him last. He felt his character should win. It doesn't work well, because his character didn't learn anything after all of this and ended up repeatedly breaking the law and technically committing murder, without suffering any consequences whatsoever, just to beat him.

  • @pmontyjaaaymes488
    @pmontyjaaaymes488 19 дней назад +28

    This movie its Nicks ego that got everyone killed, once Clyde started killing. He was so worried about his perfect conviction rate. He couldn't see that he was basically putting everyone around him in danger. All the way until Jonas got killed he wouldn't let go of that ego. Nicks character made me mad.

  • @theblackboxpodcastshow1791
    @theblackboxpodcastshow1791 19 дней назад +55

    All Gerard Butler's character wanted was effort. That's what he said to Jamie's Character after he killed his co workers in the cars. If he had tried to convict them for Murder 1 and lost, he would have been happy with that but because Jamie's character was worried about his win/loss ratio, that's what Gerrard had issues with and that's why he had an issue with The Judge, it's a flaw because their are safeguards in the law so they won't get the wrong guy but that's flawed as well. But in my opinion, that's the motivation of Gerard's character.

      IMO, Clyde was trying to teach Nick a lesson. He wanted Nick to understand that the legal system is not the justice system it should be.
      I don't think that Nick was on the list. Clyde wanted Nick to understand the failure of the system.....to act outside the law (which he did in the end) would prove that Clyde did what had to be done to find justice.

    People hate on the ending but Clyde died in front of that courthouse when he watched Darby go free. It was bad enough that he had to witness his family destroyed and that could have broken him on its own. The tragedy that he suffered broke him beyond repair and there was no stopping him from killing anyone even tangentially related to the “justice system.” Him living would not be a good thing since he was basically a rabid dog with an extensive knowledge on how to kill.

      Think of it this way: What happens when you absolutely wrong and take away everything from an "attack dog" of the government, who has been the brains of countless very shady complex successful assassinations? That "attack dog" is going to bite back. I'm more confused on why Clyde didn't pull strings in the deep government to affect the court case. But for as intelligent as he was, he was too naive to believe fully in the justice system.

    Clyde was originally going to succeed in bombing city hall and escape after killing Jamie's character as well. I think he did win. He killed everybody but Jamie, but Jamie is forever changed. He won't just be making deals that only benefit himself and serve no justice. He will listen to the families of the victims and do what they want and what's right. The impact on him was like dropping a rock on an ocean. It creates a ripple that will eventually be felt everywhere.
      I also don't think Clyde wanted to live after he finished anyway.

      @@carladavis1473 I get that but my issue with the film is it never gets you to change sides. Like even though Gerard butler is killing people and he’s supposed to be the bad guy you still side with him throughout the entire movie and because of that the ending doesn’t work for me. I think what they should have done is had something to where at the very end he’s trying to make his daughters show they should have ended it with Jamie foxx noticing a bomb inside the violin so when she hit a certain note it blew up or something and had Jamie scream “NO!” And the film cuts to black.

    Great reaction as usual. One of the best movies with the worst endings. Not because Clyde died (I think that is the only way he gets peace), but that Nick had no consequences for prioritizing "wins" over justice and convenience over truth. He even became a criminal (breaking and entering and assault on a prisoner, then committing murder at the end). He did the things he condemned Clyde for and got away with it.

    I once saw a documentary about the Black Panther Party, I think it was about the 60s or 70s, one of the two, anyway, it happened the police searched their domicile under pretexts, shot members of the group and planted guns on them to justify these executions as “self-defense”.
    The point is at some point the Panthers began to undress before such searches in order to save their lives. They were still treated badly, but because they were naked, guns could no longer be planted on them to shoot them and then publicly justify the killings as self-defense. At the point in the movie when Clyde surrenders and strips naked before being arrested, I thought of this documentary, so I guess that's why he stripped before being arrested.

    The whole point that Clyde is trying to teach is simple. Do NOT make deals with guilty people. ESPECIALLY when you know that they are the main culprit.
    If they had just said, "No" to the mattress deal, none of this could've happened. Clyde would be in the main block, so under 24/7 surveillance. The INSTANT they make that 1st deal, his plan is able to work. They had mountains of evidence about him. But they took the easy route out.

    It's interesting that in the end Clyde technically still won. He may have died, but it's because Nick and the cops moved the explosive to Clyde's cell, which in turn made them break the law. Criminal or not, Clyde still has rights and they not only took the law into their own hands, but basically committed multiple crimes including offing Clyde, destruction of property, and endangering the lives of others in the prison. Even if they cleared that level of the prison, there's no way to know if the blast could have affected other levels, and I doubt they could have evacuated the whole prison. Realistically, Nick and the cops should have been charged or at the very least lost their jobs, but this is a movie so they have to have a happy ending. Great movie though. One of my favorites and definitely slept on. Glad you reacted to it
