i like Jared's talking, but i think what people don't like is not that he's talking too much, it's that the ratio of talking vs showing completed work is a bit too much. This episode is almost flipped too much the other way, too much done with not enough explanation. A better ratio of actual content (movement on projects) with explanations would be ideal.
Requires a lot of good planning, and when you have everything planned out, the discipline to take the time and record it. Making videos with nothing to show for and just talking is something you have to do when you're kind of desperate to release something but don't have any real content. Making videos with a ton of time lapses and no explanations is the opposite problem, kinda lazy, stopping your work every so often to explain is a big pain, and can slow down the work, but that's the whole point of the videos. It's what makes it educational instead of just a vlog about a car guy doing car guy things.

Some of the LS3 guys who have upgraded to solid bronze bushing trunnion sets have been noticing that they can wear unexpectedly fast. at about 20-30K miles, the bushings will wear to be out of round, causing extra slop in the rockers as well as bronze in the oil. You might want to swap the CHE Bronze Bushings. They have oil grooves cut into the bushings to prevent this. Good luck with the rest of the build!

Oh man! R.E.S.P.E.C.T. !!!!! I absolutely adore assembling engine and drivetrain components too! You brought me back to my Automotive Technician school days as i was voicing loudly SOAP AND WATER!! To clean everything up... If my instructor took a piece of paper towel and wiped any engine internal component and if so much as a bleached grey smudge appeared you went back to square one. 😁 To this day, my engine rebuilds/new builds are in my mind an extension of my abilities and knowledge and I take great pride when someone tells another person that I "built" their engine because unless you're all in and only use the best quality and most durable parts them I'm out.... I've turned away more people than not. I've built everything from domestic to Euro to Rolls engines and I'll under-bill my labour most times because I tend to spend waaaaaaay too much time on the small details than most people would understand. When i see one of my 350cid or 351 Cleveland builds pulling 9800 and sometimes well into the 10k territory in pull trucks I smile like what i assume a proud parent would smile like and consider it a victory when the insides aren't on the outsides after the pull is complete.

At lot of key detail missing from the build of a performance motor that I wanted to see. Linishing the crank journals after checking roundness of journals, crack testing the used parts, hot tanking the block, balancing the rotating assembly, checking tunnel alignment, crank float, bearing crush, matching piston and rod weights. If you don’t blueprint you get a hand grenade at high rpm on full boost.

im not one to meddle with someone else's process, however in school they told us not to use any detergents to clean engine parts, especially cast parts because the soap can imbed in the casting and will mix with the oil causing foaming and potential loss of oil pressure

I didn’t see you tighten the one nut for the pickup tube before you put on the oil pan. I hope you went back and tightened it. Engine looks beautiful though

Love it, but I couldn't have those port lips proud like that in the intake runners.

Looks good. Any chance of talking about the decision making process? Why these parts?

Okay, curious, how much (in parts) to rebuild the LS? Typical amount of time overall ( if the motor is out) to rebuild a motor?

You can spend as much as you want, and more you spend the faster and less reliable it gets.

If you sit down and do it right (which Jared did not, or at least wasn’t shown doing it right), dedicate 5-8 hours to measuring, ring filing and recording every measurement, pre-fitment and cleaning, and another 4-6 hours to assemble, again, recording all your torque specs, pushrod measurement etc. Like doing body work, the more prep time, measurement and fitment you spend on an engine the better the result.

I think this would do 10 seconds if you didn't have half the cylinders firing. Beautiful build, can't wait to see the completed project
