Man, it doesnt get any more questionable than this. Love the video Jared!!
Hey now, its a Toyota, REV UP YOUR ENGINES and trust in the Kilmer!
@@TheQuestionableGarage too bad it's not a 94 Celica
@@TheQuestionableGarage I always trust a Toyota 😉👍Great content, Jared!
@@TheQuestionableGarage not enough mustard on your vest to be kilmer. Trust me I know.. look at my profile image. Gen6 st205😂

Love that Jared has his own channel now. Love Tavarish beyond words, but it made a lot of sense for him to have the channel to himself.
Agreed, I was thinking the same thing...
Love Jared...Tavarish is a tool...
@@JohnSmith-eq5el 100% agreed, always enjoyed Jared's content but couldn't look past his connection to tavarish. Lovely to see him moving and doing his own thing.
I used to be a Tavarish fan but was getting more and more frustrated with the starting and not finishing of projects. Then taking the 2jz back from the earl project and now the latest “flex” video of his mansion the guys completed the full “knob” transformation in my opinion
@@lee8128 The whole business idea behind being a youtuber, a fixer one, is monetizing everytying and every project. Makes sense him also financing the house by making it also a project to make ends meet. In my opinion, hes deserved it. And I know when the pool is all set up hes probably gonna host some car youtuber exclusive get-togethers there. Who knows. Besides, its Florida. How jealous must one be?
This is gonna be an amazing series and Jared is my favorite RUclips person/ celebrity
These 5VZ's are great engines to learn on since they are non interference. When I replaced the head gaskets on mine I timed the cams wrong on one side, so I'm very glad that I was unable to ruin my engine. 😂 What a great find Jared. I hope you get this ride in tip top shape.
I've always enjoyed Jared's wisdom. I feel like, first, with the new shop, and now with full ownership of the channel, the quality and enthusiasm keeps getting better. (Though the audio clipping was rough in this one, that's just a recording goof)
Imagine if you were the guy who sold this to Jared and you saw how easy it was to get running if you just had that bit of knowledge. Just goes to show you learn everything you can about what you own
was thinking the same thing. it would have been cheaper to pay someone to do the job than what he lost selling it as a non runner.
Definitely a good platform to do a flip on. Can’t wait to see where this one goes.
Yes! An awesome 3rd Gen 4Runner. I also got a 3rd 97’ 4Runner. At 281k miles, still going strong! Hope you keep it and make it an awesome daily. Love the 3rd Gens!
I’ve considered it, but also Supra
@@TheQuestionableGarage So 2J-swap 4Runner is what you're saying?
Hands down, one of the best logo intros I have seen on YT. Love the new look for the channel, Jared 👍
As a 3rd gen owner, I supremely approve of this!! So excited for this series and to learn some things! I’ve only done minor maintenance myself to it, I got lucky since mine was owned by an old lady lol.
I had a rear differential ring gear failure in my 2000. Decided to kick a tooth. Rebuilt the entire rear axle from brake lines to a whole new carrier from toyota with just good ol hand tools.
Getting the factory 4:10 is impossible on aftermarket, so biggest expenditure was getting a fully set new carrier assembly from Toyota. Cost not a whole lot more than the time and hassle of trying to rebuild old one.
Had this happen with a couple of projects. Like an '86 t bird and a '74 scamp. Not huge markets and basically got my money back out of them when I sold.
That’s one of the hard things, sometimes what excites us doesn’t fit the overall masses so it’s harder to profit.
@@TheQuestionableGarage truer words
Thank You! This video is extremely detailed in a positive way. I personally know these steps to fix and flip although many others do not. Seeing a quality, entertaining video to get more people involved in project fun! Hopefully more fun videos to come! Cheers!
4runners go for big money round here. Love the color... And your channel!
Awesome! Thank you!
First stop on the road to a Supra! Let’s go Jared!!! This is such a great concept for your new channel!
Fantastic!! So glad you’re back to your Toyota roots. I found this super special as I have the same supras and 4Runner! Awesome!
Plz do a JZ build with Derek at VGG someday! Would love to see that!!
Bring a trailer is still an appropriate name but now it's just not for broken cars it's for collector cars
LESSSSSSSSSS GOOOOOOOO! I know Jared is a huge Supra guy, pumped to get a chance to see him in his element!
Jared, I was really hoping that it was going to be something relatively simple.
You deserve a big win after all the heart breakers and mind benders, and this looks like it.
But in any event, I know I'll be rooting for you no matter what big guy. 😁👍
Thanks Jared! You're a great motivator. You see, every time I watch one of your videos I always want to go and wrench on my stuff.
heck yeah man I am so psyched for this series. it's a long term goal with lots of intermediate goals to accomplish along the way so its great for content. i drive a lifted 2000 4runner sr5 so i am psyched to see what you do with yours. during covid (before the price balloon) i found an red 160k mile SC430 that only needed paint and some valve cover gaskets for $3500 and flipped that into double.
Glad to hear it!
Awesome video! I like the relatability of this kind of content. I’m currently working on my first project, a honda prelude! It’s exciting seeing what you can do with a little knowledge, thanks for inspiring me to make questionable decisions!
Love 4 Runners, I've had several of them here in the UK. After seeing yours it looks to me like the truck was lifted with a forklift truck! The marks on the captains side look like fork heels!!!!! Loving the new look channel 👌👍👌👍
Love to see these kind of projects sprinkled in with the no budget builds. Hope to see you in that new Supra soon.
Great job with the five hit points. Forwarded this to a friend who is looking to buy an obs ford pickup. Great explanation!!!
Awesome and yet down-to-earth content, and one can tell that you feel comfortable with this, Jared.
Also, we need t-shirts with "Option 5 is still in the table"/"looking at option 5 :(".
Truly enjoyable video and great editing.
I need to follow this advice better when getting projects. I paid $3000 for an s2000 this summer. Didn't realize a new motor was going to cost $4500 because of my location. Luckily it had some nice aftermarket parts that didn't really add any value I was able to sell, as well as parting out the blown motor. After all that was sold I was able to offset the purchase price completely
I like learning new platforms, sure if you want to make sure you make money staying with what you know is a way to do it, but it also locks you into a box. Moving to different platforms really expands over all knowledge, which is why I bought my 91 sr5 pickup and some vw's. Looking forward to selling some stuff off to get some new platforms to learn on.
Love the new channel Jared - those Toyota engines will surprise you with their durability! I've owned 2 22R "Yoters" and they have been the most fun to upgrade and mess with. (Triple platinum splitfire spark plugs burned out a clutch they added so much power)
Awesome content as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along.Love the variety of content on this channel
Love these videos I flip cars and dont buy unless it drives well I finally got the confidence to buy a non runner I got a 2011 Mercedes c300 4matic needed a starter and I crawled underneath saw the jumper wire from solenoid to starter was burnt and motor was free it also needed a fender few small things but everything worked I put a starter in from eagle bay for 60 bucks and she runs great! Also it came with mint amg wheels with michleins I got the car for 1200 with tow paperwork and all parts on I'm under 2200 in the car and everything is good now!
Jared, you are going to hit a million subs! Your content is Just awesome
I really love the Forerunner, and I’m enjoying the concept of showing us how to properly buy a fixer upper and get it on the road in an affordable manner. Can’t wait to see where this goes!
Fantastic and encouraging video. You definitely have me hooked on this series!
Jared, I love your mk3 supra. I’m in GA and looking for one to pick up and start tinkering on. They’re elusive these days to say the least. Thanks for giving these Toyotas the screen time they deserve.
I'm enjoying watching this, I had a 97 4Rnr, and never managed to stop transmission fluid mixing with water in the cooling system, despite changing absolutely everything in the cooling system, I eventually lost that engine, due to losing water through heating system hoses hidden at the back of the engine, and a blown heater core, water got into the engine and it hydro-locked, I sold the vehicle to someone who put another engine into it and it's still being used. I replaced that 4Rnr with a 2000 4Rnr, I've so far had no cooling issues with this one and have put good money into it to improve and maintain it, now at 199,000 miles and running sweetly.
Always had a soft spot for these 4-Runner, almost bought one a year ago, but it was in too rough off a shape and i'm not good with welding X). Hope this one doesn't hide anything and it ends up becoming a nice profit for you.
Nicely done sir. I love 4Runners. Can’t wait to see how this one plays out.
I got a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SSEI. Did a lot to it, all new suspension, big brake kit, rims and nice tires, interior out of an 05 gxp, zzp PCM tune, zzp downpipe, fender well air intake, 3.4 supercharger pully, and a stage 1 trans built by triple edge performance. It was a really fun car. Wish I hadn't gotten rid of it for a truck
You scored on the purchase. It would be better if it had 50k less miles, but still you only have $78 in a running and driving vehicle. That's a win everyday!
I think you just helped me with the grabby brakes on my ‘81 Toyota pickup. I’ll have to pull the rear apart to check for leaks. Thanks man! It’s pretty good when you can unintentionally help with other projects. 10/10
Love the channel and saved and flipped a 1988 ford ranger last summer. Rust up here in Maine makes finding decent projects really hard though.
Had a 97 4runner SR5. Loved it. Was a beast in the snow. I did a EMU lift, new timing belt, water pump, radiator, rear axle seals, f&r brakes, drive shaft boots, and a vent on the rear diff. I painted the bumpers, grill, floor boards and fender flares with a bed liner. Did some polish on the bright red paint. Only thing I wish I had was the sport raised hood. Then the big D took it away from me.
Nice shout out to Chris fix. He does a great job of laying out needed tools and alternatives. This was a great video! I really want an SUV, but don't/can't spend 100k!
Yes, my first car was a 1998 4Runner Manual! My current project is a 1999 4Runner "Highlander" Manual, I'm excited for this series!
3rd gen 4Runners are such great platforms for either moding or just driving a million miles. My 99 Limited has been the best vehicle I've ever owned. The angels are great and the devils don't scare me at all. It has over 270k miles and still runs like a champ. Doesn't burn or leak any oil, Trans shifts smooth, chassis is tight and rust free, and no electrical gremlins. As a 3rd gen fan, and a 4Runner fan in general, I'm excited to see what you have planned for it. Nice, well sorted examples even with high mileage are selling for a premium. You definitely have room to make a profit.
I just got myself a 1998 limited 4runner that the previous owner took GREAT care of, but it's got crazy high mileage so it may take some work. I'll be watching for some more of this series, seems like it may do me well! I'll be trying my own series out on my channel as well!
This is amazing, I just started building my own 4runner, now I get to watch Jared do one too
On an e46, I once repaired a split in the intake boot with a large rubber patch. Worked great
Love the new intro Jared, looks awesome. 👍 Also, congrats on winning the grudge race by default against Brent. 😛
That guide to flips and questionable purchases is gold. People should memorize it. 👍
This is great showing us you can buy and flip is a great choice for video's you got this. I enjoy watching your videos you know your stuff and keep it nice choice of vehicles nothing tooo fancy
Love 4Runners! Can’t wait to see what you do with it, Jared.
Great video G. I like these ones...it's something I could do, and I get more and more confident the more knowledge you give out..Thanks big fella.
Looking forward to seeing how things go with this 4Runner. I used to own a 1994 4Runner. It was a pretty awesome vehicle for it's day. Only problem I had with it was a bad AC compressor. Had the dealership replace it and, soon after, the new AC compressor also popped. Turned out that the 1st mechanic that worked on it wasn't as skilled as they likely should have been. I regret selling that 4Runner.
I specialize in LS performance, GMT800 trucks, and Toyota trucks. I’m all the time buying gmt800 trucks to flip, as well as 3rd gen 4Runners like you’re working on here. Just recently finished head gaskets and timing belt on one to flip
1 thing people also need to realize is their states laws on flipping vehicles. Here in our state of Georgia you can only buy and sell 5 titled vehicles in a given year without some sort of dealers or wholesalers license. Great video and a 4 runner is a great flip vehicle. 👍 Matt.
oh man I love the new logo! And lol at the white-board style arrows during the whiteboard segment! Great but if editing that conforms very well with the “questionable” theme of the show!
Love it man! These would be good flippers for sure! Clean it up, put some 4runner wheels on it, send it to Maaco and I bet you'll quintuple your money.
Sending anything to Maaco is an unquestionably bad decision. Questionable choices are ok. Dumb ones? I'll pass.
Great tips and love the 4Runner ! Thank you Sir !
Dude!! Awesome new intro
Thank you! Editor Duane coming in clutch as always
This is awesome, Jared you are an awesome host and I love the content can't wait to see more
Cant wait for this build!! I own 97 4x4 4runner with a 2jz nonvvti na-t and auto trans, that i put together for around 1k including purchase of the 4runner and the sc300(:
Totally enjoyed this video. Very informative and hope to see more in this project.
Rounded up my month ends by fixin & flippin cars back in early 1970 to the 80, made good money, Nevers lost on any of them, my wife used them as a daily until it was sold, went from Chevette's to Monte Carlo's, whatever I could get from the GM dealer I was working for or directly from a customer. Love your video's.
I wish we got the 3rd gen 4runners here, we only got up to the 2nd gen.
I had a 3.slow for a about 6 years and it was a pretty good rig, was always a tad under powered though, great off road, just did not like the highway much.
I was constantly on the lookout for a 3.4 out of a prado to swap in, but none ever came up for a reasonable price when I had the cash to do it. (was looking for a wrecked prado as I would have needed the wiring loom and ecu)
I’ve been running Toyotas - Lexus’s for years now and had many needing work, 2 years ago i’ve got a land cruiser Colorado non runner. Needing a new cylinder head.
Liking the new logo,
Trust your instincts because YOU have the knowledge, I am highly likely going to buy 2 beetles this week and I must say your list is really comprehensive, I also follow mainly those 5 questions/rules, thanks, am going to enjoy this series,
Ciao ciao
I have picked up a 70 vw squareback. I know the car has sat for a long time. Hoping to get it running by the summer. My first serious project.
This was a fun video to watch. Can't wait to see what else is in store for this flip.
I’ve got to say it Jared, you always seem to succeed where others fail.
A true testament to your overwhelming wealth of knowledge.
I also have to say that the little beaut of a Toyota sounds really good 👌🏻
Super excited about this!! Always love learning car knowledge!!
Wow other Jared. I just bought an 04 Tacoma in February. I’ve been driving it every day for work. No illusions of it looking great but I’ve been knocking out the things it needs a little at a time. Found a 4 runner sitting for a while at a property I manage and I’m thinking about making the guy an offer.
I recently tracked down a 98 Explorer 2 door sport that belonged to my Mom years ago. It is in great condition and after a new fuel pump ran great. Bad news is that it needs timing chain guides front and rear. It has the 373 rear end with posi. Interior is mint. But I have to pull the motor to replace the guides properly. I wish I knew of a you tube channel that wanted the content and do a how to........... Enjoy the new name and your channel, learned a lot so far over the years.
Where are you?
@@masterchief342 Central NC. Nashville NC is right beside 95. I drive a Ford van daily that can pull it with within reason.
4runner has a crazy following.
After owning a 4runner, I don't know why I didn't get one sooner.
I spent some time in the summer out west. 4 runner was the most seen vehicle anywhere near any mountain in every state. Wyoming is full of old and new 4 runners
I miss my 98 4runner. Manual, V6, 4wd. It had a nice lift and other mods. My wife, well fiance at the time, gets car sick really easily.
I have one of those the exact same year! Love my 4runner it's the third one I bought.
Fair fue 2jz swapped in Australia as well as 1uz so many options great car awesome diffs big potential
This is great Jared. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Love your new intro Jared! I think you are doing a great job with this transformation!! As always :)
Woo! 4Runner! I got a 2000 SR5 with 5speed! The upgraded 265 tire package with the 4:10s
Excited for this series! Got a 2002 4Runner
Nice Logo Jared, I like the new Channel image, although you are the Channel and I follow you because you are a great person, very knowledgable and have super ideas, keep up the good work
Would love to see you fix and flip your way to that supra in a series. Think of the teaching opportunities over the year.
I am so on board for this process, it seems like the classic red paperclip project, just exclusively with cars. Love it!
Nice one Jared... 1st step to buy Supra... Keep it up...n your tips are informative... Godbless you always.
Dude! What an awesome idea for RUclips! Rust to Riches was cool, but I like the pilot of your version. Here for the journey, for sure. Thanks Jared!
Something tells me 8th street downtown Jacksonville will trigger some memories with you, just like the mention of port installed rs3000 triggered memories for me. Our paths may have crossed in the early to mid 2000’s in the SET world. Can’t wait to see what you do with this 3rd gen!
I've always loved these 3rd gen 4runners... my grandfather had one and took me on my first fishing trip in it
THAT'S GREAT you got it running so fast, HUGE WIN RIGHT THERE. Now it's basically figuring out the small things, GREAT BUY, SIR.
Nice choice! I’m am a pretty big fan of the Toyota 4runner and Tacomas of this era. Great work!
Always wanted to do a 1/2jz swap to one of these, believe you could 1jz swap the 4x4 manuals by cutting the front portion of the bellhousing from an r154 and cutting the donor 4x4 trans (maybe the w58?) then welding the r154 front to it or something like that. I'm sure there's probably conversion kits that are bolt on options these days though lol.
great vehicle choice for youtube too. lots of people will be wanting to see this! awesome work man
I like to buy seasonal cars out of season. Buy MK3 mr2s in winter fix up and sell in spring. Works a charm.
Quick search in my area shows 4Runners of that generation in good condition with similar milage going for anywhere between $8k-$11k. I think you're hosed on the bodywork, but get the interior clean and list it for $7000. Granted, I'm in California, so the prices on old Toyota pickups and SUVs are kind of inflated.
Crushed the vid dude! Way to go! Better mic and you take the auto-tube market by storm!
Thats looking like a fun series, keep it coming. Could you check you audio? You are spiking quite a bit. thanks :)
I'm stoked for this build. I recently bought a clapped out 2002 with 300k that just wont quit. (Quit rusting) Best $1200 I ever spent. I'm a true Alaskan haha
The excitement on your face in and your voice was great. Makes me want a project car even more
Knowledge is key. Bought my daily for 500 bucks. Just needed shift cables guy thought it needed a trans now I drive a 5 speed accord with working ac ps heat and an incredibly healthy engine
Yep! Bought my daily for 1200$ CAD. 545i 6MT, retimed the engine, fixed the oil leaks.. Super fun daily for around 2K.
I bought my son a 97 4 runner and that thing is a beast. Over 300K on it now. Love that truck!
