I think a cool idea for an episode is walking through ordering hides and the process of figuring out what they will and won’t work for.
Like with a particular builder?
Or creating a list of hide types from all builders and specifically going through each one saying what we think it is best/worst appropriate for?
Or starting with a specific scenario, of a specific person? Like you for example? Finding out how you'd wear your boots, and your preferences, dislikes, and make suggestions from there?
I'm afraid I'm just not understanding the suggestion yet?
I do like that idea of doing profiles on individual builders and spending time on their highs and lows.
But I was thinking more along the lines of how you all have talked about ordering your own hides to have boots made from. I’ve heard that franks isn’t as keen on it as they used to be because not all of them work out, what causes that, is it just a lottery type situation or does it boil down to who you order through, etc.
Or is it just as simple as people pick cheap junk hides from junk tanneries because they’re cheap then feign surprise that they can’t become high end boots?

C.f. steads oiled shoulder makes a great work leather. Veg tan, beautiful light color. It also is a rare leather i have that gets lighter with age instead of darker. The onlybproblem is you don't see it available to often.
I looked, the cf stead oiled shoulder isn't a veg tan,at least full veg tan.
