You guys go deep and I’m so here for it
Means a lot to us Phil. Thank you. ♥
Great discussion guys
Horsehide and shell are something I have not have the chance to own and wear yet that I hope to eventually get to. I suspect I will spend many hours listening to this podcast again and again when the time to find a boot comes.
I would love to be able to buy a pair of Viberg Service boots in natural Shell Cordovan. Simple, no toe cap or something. But these days they would charge $1500. And that is before I have imported them to my country.
Good evening guys. Hello from Eastern VA
🥂
I was told that within the united states, domestic horse products of any sort, cannot be harvested or traded as a commodity in any way (including natural causes of death). Skip Horween said he needs to import all his hides from other limited countries which allow the export of equine bodies.
Interesting... I'll have to dig deeper on that. I didn't do any research on that, just something I remember reading. It certainly wouldn't surprise me that the USA has such a law.
You answered a lot of questions in this video, thank you guys for continuing to make these. I want Frank's to get a hold of the darker brown/walnut color Horsebutt from Maryam, the Toscanello is a little light for my tastes. And that TPR finish is perplexing to me as well, why not just get it in normal wax?
They would have to order directly from the tannery with a minimum order since no distributors are keeping the waxed finish at the moment.
I'm not a TPR fan either
My only horsebutt boots in my collection are the 6” ROOTS from ROLLING DUB TRIO in brown Maryam horsebutt, great boots. RDT recommend using Colloni 1909 for conditioning but only after extensive use. Have seen some Viberg boots using Horween Working Horsebutt Crust leather in Colour 8 but they were a limited run. Interesting that Horween makes Essex using Cordovan tannage method which they can turn into Dublin and Derby with different finishing.
Great video, lots of good information. Enjoying this series.
👍🇨🇦
What is the beverage of choice this evening Jeff?
That is MGP Bourbon @BP. The last barrel pick I did @ Magnus, I threw all the extra juice into that bottle and filled it. So that is like 6-7 barrels mixed together. Barrels were all 10-13 year juice.
Hell yeah, can't wait to watch this 👊 exactly what i wanted to learn more about : )
.. btw,, I went against your opinion lol, and bought JK OTs , smooth Bison today cause they were in stock in my size 😆😅
Couldn't help it.. it will make a good 2nd work boot for the days where I'm hitting one resident property to the next,, something lighter i can run around in.. I've got a narrow foot, so I think their D width should do just fine.. my Drews are too husky for all the moving around i do..
also got the White's red dog Ranchers in for casual wear.. I'm in love with the 4811 last now.. I take that shape over the 55 anyday.. I hope Frank's can do something for me with that last
btw, either of you two have any experience with Julian Boots..? Definitely considering them again.. I like the slight bump toe Bowery boot alot,, thanks for your content ✌️
I have looked at them but they do not have a suitable width as we are both FF/EEEE. They look decent, I have questions at the price of them for how they are made but I have not heard many bad things about them and they have good deals on seconds.
As long as the JK's fit, you will probably be pretty happy with them for that use. And if they don't fit, and you wear them only on carpet, you can return them since they were in stock.
Yeah, I really like the 4811 too. Much better than the 55. And yes, Frank's has the 4811 in limited sizes. I hope they have your size.
Snd yeah, Mike's answer for Julian mirrors mine.
Recently Horween black horsehide is under- shortage. How do you compare with Maryam black horsehide and horween black horsehide? Thank you.
Surprising that the color black is specifically under shortage. That is literally the opposite of what I'd expect. Black hides (no pun) lots of flaws. So hides they don't think they could sell in any other color will become black. Maybe they have sooo many exceptional hides recently that they don't want to waste any of them on black? That they are waiting on hides flawed enough they are willing to dye them black? 🤔
Maryam Horserump Is MUCH better than Horween Horsehide. Is comes from a better part of the animal, will have shell under part of the hide, and is a specialty for Maryum. I'd never use Horween Horsehide by choice. Horween Shell definitely...but not horsehide.
@@cloveroak5492 Thank you very much of your detail explanation. it is really really logical as you said. I had one Maryum horse hide, mr lou and it is really thick and hard. I was thinking if horween horse hide is better. you really nail it. Thanks again.
