    Looking forward to the more 'deep dive' episodes.. maybe you could delve more into tannage processes/types... like, for example.., the difference between Essex and Dublin.. things like that.. all the different colors and tanning types brands do.. to help consumers differentiate by look and feel.. color.. i find all that really interesting.. being able to tell a color 4 shade from 6.. there's just alot of subtle variations.. waxy leathers.. all that.. Thanks for all your time n efforts!

      I guess YT makes it look like these are live. 🤔 I thought Premier just made people aware it was coming. We haven't done anything live yet. We've never edited anything so it is basically live, but everything is recorded a few days b4.
      Doing an actual live so people can interact sounds fun though. We'll have to figure that out.
      Or do Premiere's usually mean we watch the recording along with the audience and interact in comments? 🤔 That is something I hadn't thought of. Sounds like something I should try to do.....

      Crocket & Jones makes a scotch grain Coniston boot. I wouldn't consider it low quality.
      Great channel. I hope you guys keep it up.

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  3 месяца назад +1

      @@Faux_59 I hope I didn't say Scotch Grain means low quality? Because it doesn't mean low quality. I meant to say that traditionally it was used on lower quality leathers, to hide that they were lower quality. For that reason I don't buy it, regardless of how high quality it actually is.

    Love this channel and all the boot talk. I have a few questions for your next Q&A.
    Why are leather heel stacks always marketed as veg tanned? Would there be any downsides if they used chrome tanned leather instead?
    Same question for leather insoles and leather heel counters.

      These leathers are tanned long term in pits to get it as thick and dense as it is. Primary tanning for that is Oak Bark, which falls under veg tanning. Chrome tanning can't achieve that, and wouldn't be necessary b4 or after that. Chrome tanning is a cheaper & faster tanning type made to avoid long term tanning like is needed for these applications

    Nice relaxing listening. I have not been able to find out what Moulton leather is. Is it a finish or a tanning process. Or maybe just a name to confuse the buyer.

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  2 месяца назад

      Moulton could mean several things....
      ---It is an English surname, so it could be named after someone.
      ---It origins come from 2 words that together mean mule farm, which I expect is where the surname came from. A family business of farming mules. But no, it isn't mule hide I'm pretty sure.
      ---one RMW fan on Reddit thinks it is a color, but that doesn't sound right.
      ---I think it is just a name RMW's chose to use on one of there leather types, and I think it is more or less Yearling leather. Cow.

    • @edbehan1306
      @edbehan1306 2 месяца назад +1

      @@cloveroak5492 Yes it is RMW's term. And it is usually Yearling. It can be all colors, must be the finish. I guess it's not that important. Thank you.

    I recently saw a cowboy boot brand advertising models in a smooth ostritch reverse. I’d just never heard of or considered anyone would want that.
    Related question, in all your tannery episodes there wasn’t much mention of the exotics. Do you happen to know who’s cranking out ostritch/shark/reptiles etc?

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  3 месяца назад +2

      I've seen a fair amount of smooth ostrich, but reverse? I assume you mean roughout? I have never ever heard of ostrich being reversed. I'm gonna have to go seek that out.
      Those aren't tanned the same way, so I don't know that any major tanneries do it? I think it is done by small operations. I could work on learning more about that. Maybe I can gather enough info for an episode. I used to buy exotic cowboy boots. Owned many over the years. But they were always off the shelf. There haven't been any yet that I think would look good with the rounder bigger toed boots I've been buying. So until I decide to get into MTO or Bespoke cowboy boots, those exotics won't be on my rador personally. (except that I eventually want black full quill Ostrich on a Harley seat)

    • @mathiassmith5667
      @mathiassmith5667 3 месяца назад +1

      @@cloveroak5492 they call it reverse but I’d guess it has to be roughout. It was Horsepower, the Mexican branch of Rios/AB, so I assume it’s a way to use up lesser hides.
      It was looking at exotic cowboy boots that got me wondering. Most start off so crazy expensive I’d rather look to having a better made boot overall. And franks already handles shark and ostritch. A shark/giraffe/hippo/elephant boot would probably still make my eyes water but I like knowing exactly what’s in the boot.

      @cloveroak5492  3 месяца назад +2

      @@mathiassmith5667 if YT comments section was more functional I'd share some pics with you of loggers using exotics. Just doesn't look right to me. Frank's can get Elephant although they probably would want to keep that on the DL for the sensitive types that don't understand it's all ethical. Another cool choice I'm starting to think about is Stingray. It's like 20 grit sandpaper and litteraly will create sawdust with. O injury to the leather.

    Is this live? Isn't it a work day?

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  3 месяца назад +1

      No, it isn't live. I set it as Premier thinking it just meant it was letting people know better that it was up.
      There is a Live choice in YT I've never clicked on.
      What is Premier supposed to mean? Is is supposed to mean we are Watchung it along with the audience? 🤔
