    the amount of people who dont think a reroute is needed bothers me.
    BPs without a reroute almost always kick the #4 rod out the block before any others.
    even if your car is not overheating, the long term effect of it is, faster wear for parts at the rear of the motor.
    the 5.9 cummins has a very similar issue and its well known #6 is the one to keep an eye on, because its usually the first to start knocking.

    I installed a thermostat that kicks on about 10 degrees sooner thinking that would be enough but down here in Texas, the Miata still gets cookin.
    I’ll start this reroute just as soon as I’m done fixing my driver side LCA rear mount flanges as they are currently slightly bent. 😥

    • @NappMotorsports
      @NappMotorsports  Год назад

      Lower thermostat isn’t a bad idea, but it doesn’t do the same thing as a reroute. Installing that should make a huge difference.

    I've just ordered a reroute and new hoses from skid nation.
    On top of that one of the SPS motorsport Radiators and a spall fan kit from IL motorsport.

    I have this reroute and I’m pretty happy with it. I used hondabond instead of the provided gaskets. I don’t like how the hose rubs on the charcoal canister and the stock throttle body arm can hang up and rub on the hose. Another thing to note is that the EGR pipe runs real close to the speedo cable to the point of being able to melt it. I used a small bracket on the car side to hold the speedo cable out of the way to keep it from touching. Isn’t smog fun?

    I have seen talk on forums that the 1.8 vvt engine changed the layout of the water jackets in the engine block and doesn’t need a reroute, just curious if a reroute is still an upgrade over and beyond the improved coolant flow from factory and that’s why you have installed it? Not at all meant to be critical, I’m planning on vvt swapping my 1990 and trying to do what’s best for the engine! Either way, have been really enjoying the content and hope the builds get to where you want them before driving season again 🚀

    • @miatafan
      @miatafan 2 года назад +1

      a vvt headgasket is better than no reroute, but a non vvt headgakset and a reroute is better.
      mazda "solved" the issue by restricting coolant to cylinder 1&2 so it kind of just moves the hot spot to a different place

      We had this concern originally with Dylan's VVT Swap, but after some research, we found that Emilio from 949 Racing has run Rerouted VVT Engines for 24+ hour endurance races, which is significantly harder driving than this engine will ever see. It definitely doesn't hurt.

      It does. The issue is the front plate doesn't have the hole for the thermoswitch. You'd need to get one elsewhere or drill and tap the one included. A spark plug tap works. I think you might have to extend the rear sensor wires and it's really hard to get it on. I think the 1.8 cars have more space between the engine and firewall
