  • Very glad to have that old coolant out of the system and now have a real idea of not only what the system look like but also when the water was put in. The coolant will most likely be flushed this winter again due to some motor work it needs, but it gives us another chance to examine the water.

I'm not familiar with Miata's but most engines have a coolant drain plug on the block. Draining the block helps you ensure all of the old coolant is out of the system. Great video though.

Yah there is on but it’s not in a easy to access place. I believe it’s behind the timing cover I could be wrong.

Hope you got your mix right in there after swapping it out with water 4 times. Lot of water sitting in the block and then adding 50/50 would give poor freeze protection. Nice little video tho.

the coolant I am running is premixed, The car will not be driven in freeze and stored in a heated garage. With that being said it will get flushed sooner than later since I need to do motor work in the winter

Making heat come out of the vents in a Miata doesn't do anything to the heater core. All it does is opens a flapper door. Water is always circulating through the core.

good tip clearly I did not know that.

Honestly it could have used more flushing....especially if you're planning on keeping the car. That brown was bad and there's still some really bad coloring in that last one. Yeah you could see through it but 3 more gallons would have been a much better choice for the longevity of your system.

I disagree. Maybe I could have done one more but it isn’t going to change much as long as I maintain it and flush the coolant on time. With timely coolant changes it will flush itself clean. I honestly think 3 more gallons and it would still be a little brown.

@@NavsGarage - green coolant that's brown happens how? Rust and corrosion. SO flushing more water through the system would remove more of the contaminants. It's certainly NOT going to turn it green again so yeah, it would still be brown but it'll be far less brown and would have helped your system more than leaving in the old, oxidized coolant. But you're right, more frequent cooling flushes will definitely be better than waiting longer.

Yah it’s because it’s old. Definitely would help but probably not make a huge difference.

I say u should have done one more flush...
That would made it almost clear

It was pretty much clear. I probably could have gone one more up the engine is properly going to be opened again sooner than later so it will get flushed again
