Banter and arguing ok, but I prefer the times they are respectful and treat each other as the gems they are to each other, working out the days work and demands , opinions, etc. with utmost respect over having to be perfectly right and smarter....to the point there is a pointy edge digging into your partner and beloved .

We need a montage of "Laura" faces as a video highlight reel for every year. The look on your face when he said "and then we sell this place and do it all over again somewhere else" was priceless! It is a pleasure to see you enjoying life, and the obvious love your family has is visible in so many ways. Whether it's seeing your children experience the world, the wonders of your projects, time with your parents, or your frustration, we can all relate to. We feel like we are living the moment together by looking at your face. Thank you for sharing your journey and the hard work that it entails.

I have a video idea that I would love to see. I find it extremely hard to fill my garden with plants that flower at different times during the growing season. So if at all possible could you do a video where you showcase which plants flower early spring, then mid spring and so forth so you can get continous colour in the garden? It also varies a lot from shade areas to full sun areas. I end up looking at foliage most of the year 🙏

My grandma has a blue hydrangea. To deepen the blue, each winter we add ashes from the wood stove around it. Since you have a fireplace, your ashes from the wood might work for your hard water and soil to keep it from changing colors.
🐿🐿 Every time I plant sunflowers, the squirrels eat all my seeds. Got some netting to put over that area until my seeds sprout so they at least have a chance of growing.

The 'recipe' that I had for killing weeds included cider vinegar, Dawn dish liquid and a lot of salt which definitely works although not as a systemic weed killer. I wonder if just vinegar wouldn't be as deadly and work as a way to change colors on hydrangeas...disclaimer: I have not tried this because I like the pink color of mine.

By the time you get mulch, soil, fertilizer, containers, drip irrigation, pest control on and on and on you can easily spend more then you would simply go to the Farmers Market. I'm wondering if Garden answer is the right fit for me anymore? As much as I enjoy it and I learned quite a bit it seems like I've topped out.

Laura starts many plants from seeds. When my kids were small, my garden budget was LOW. I now have 5 mature trees that I grew from seeds. Many perennials can be started that way. Dollar stores sell seeds for less than a dollar. Also, ask for cuttings from neighbors (17 of my roses).
Garden Answer is like a symphony. Just because you can't replicate it doesn't mean you don't love it and still play what you can.

I hear ya, but you have to remember that this is their livelihood. In a typical garden it isn’t feasible to do things on the same scale. It’s like going to a botanical garden. They have to be in top form all the time to make money. When it’s a business, you can’t afford to let things slip through the cracks (pests, nutrient deficiencies, watering issues, etc).

Stick pieces of copper piping around hydrangea root sistem if you want blue blooms on your hydrangeas. Not immediately but with time, from copper, cupric oxide will form and it is natural element used to make blue glazing in ceramic industries. When cupric oxide start to form, hydrangea blooms will start changing colour from pink to blue so it's not uncommon to get both blue and pink blooms on same hydrangea plant.

    Hi Laura,
I was watching the most recent Summer Raine Oaks tour of her new property and she mentioned something that made me think of you. She said that she has to let her wood chips sit around and decompose for a while before using them on her planting beds because if you use them too soon they will cause chlorosis and mess with the soil ph.
I know you guys use a lot of wood chips as mulch on your property and was wondering if this could be leading to your ongoing chlorosis problem? Aside from your natural soil acidity I mean. I’m in western Oregon, and I’ve noticed similar problems with my shrubs that get mulched. Unless you’ve already ruled that out, maybe it’s worth looking into?
Anyways, thanks for the great videos as always. I’ve been watching your channel since the year you had that huge snowy winter, and you’re videos are a big part of what reignited my passion for plants and gardening. You inspired me to go buy a houseplant that very day and I’ve been growing things ever since.
It’s a few hundred plants later at this point, my wallet doesn’t love you but I sure do. Thanks so much for the inspiration, you’ve done more for me than I could ever explain.
Best to you and the family!

My understanding is that the dumped woodchips are only being put on the unplanted soil as a means to keep the dust down and in the future, they'll be mulched into the soil.
I agree you should never put fresh chips around plants because they need to age.

It was so interesting when you talked about using the chelated iron to counter-act your water because I'm dealing with the same issue - sort of. Our town has a very high sodium content in it's water and it is causing chlorosis in my plants. This summer has been unusually dry and hot so I have had to water daily and my poor plants are suffering. Normally we have rain which washes any sodium through the soil. So, I've been using chelated iron in my watering can about every 3 or 4 days. Truthfully, I don't know if this is going to do any good, but I don't know what else to do. I have learned so much by watching your videos and I would just like to thank you for your help. Good luck in your gardens everyone.

I think in your back area, where you don’t know what to do with it, you could put a small pool in. You can put screen covers over it to help keep it clean. Florida homes don’t always have big pools, most have the smaller ones, just to be able to enjoy getting cooled off and make it easier to keep clean or easier to heat when it gets cooler. The screened area could be locked to protect the kids so you don’t have it open unless an adult is there to watch them. Just an idea.

24:26 There is 1/4" emitter tubing in black with 6" emitters but from a different company. I just got a system from Drip Depot and everything is black. I started with the Deluxe Drip Irrigation Kit for Small Farms and hit "click to customize" and added the other things I needed since I am doing a cut flower garden with drip tape, a raised garden bed in another area, a hydrangea near the cut flower garden, and a flower bed with several rose bushes and soon to be hydrangeas as well. Somehow, the most recent irrigation video (which was put up after I already did my irrigation system recently grr) was actually the most helpful for my situation. I had no idea what to do at the actual faucet because I've seen so many videos where they create the grid and deal with couplers and things so that was no issue, but all of the stuff at the faucet was a head scratcher. Pro tip: it goes faucet -> timer -> backflow preventer -> filter -> pressure regulator -> tubing adapter, which I am using 3/4" tubing and have a Perma-Loc Tubing x Female Hose Thread Swivel (FHTS) Adapter - Thread Size : 3/4" FHT - Perma-Loc Size : 3/4" here, but forgot to order it with everything else and had to go to Home Depot and rummage around the plumbing aisle to find pieces that would go from the pipe fitting of the filter to the hose fitting of the tubing coupler. It's been an adventure. Also, to help get the tubing on the couplers, wiggle the tubing back and forth while applying pressure to get it onto the adapter, don't wiggle the adapter or you will be there for a while and hurt your hands a lot more.

When we first started our drip runs I accidentally bought 1/2” tubing that’s rated for something like 125PSI and it is impossible to get the fittings in without a blowtorch even in summer. The DIG and RainBird tubing are easy peasy to get the fittings into as long as you’re not running it in super cold temps. For the 1/4” I ran in March I brought a coffee thermos of boiling water out to the garden with me and dipped the ends in there before inserting the fittings. 10 - 30 seconds depending upon how long it’s been sitting. 😉
