I think people confuse being an introvert with being shy. Introverts can be very social, they just enjoy being home and having their solitude more than others.
yes, introverts recharge with alone time. Social time with friends or family can still be draining to our energy, socializing with people you barely know or don’t know, completely draining….but nothing to do with being shy. I’m an INFJ, what type are you ?
Yes people do confuse them, but these guys understand it. Introverts get drained by people and events, while extroverts need people and events to charge themselves. Of course there is more to it than that, but that's the gist of the differences. Yes people understand that introverts enjoy going out and being social, just drains them quickly, and they need alone time. Some extroverts don't like to be alone.
On the Myers-Briggs, I'm slightly more introverted. It's comfortable for me to be friendly and talk to strangers one-on-one. I enjoy being in small groups of people that I know well, like my family. As an introvert, I NEED time alone to feel re-energized--and that's the key to understanding I and E. Extraverts NEED time interacting to feel energized.
Did Laura just say “I don’t expect anyone to watch ALL of our videos!” WHAT? Now that’s just crazy talk! I watch everyday! You all are such an inspiration not just in gardening, in everyday life also! So blessed I found your channel 4+ years ago!
People misconstrue introversion with being shy, quiet, unfriendly etc. It just really means that social interaction is draining and we value our alone time to recharge. Unlike people who want to go to parties or concerts and are energized by being amongst the people and soaking in the collective vibe, we'd rather have a small get together with close friends and then go home at a reasonable time so we don't regret ever having gone out at all 😅
It would be interesting to find out how many of the gardening folk here fit this description. I know I do. Close family and friends. Then my time in my garden. Makes for a happy camper.
So I'm also an introvert. Socialising is exhausting But I also love going to gigs/concerts and seeing live music. Enjoy the feeling that comes with a crowd all sharing a moment, but then need silence and no interactions for a few days. Us introverts come in all forms!
The best explanation I’ve ever heard of introvert and extrovert is; extroverts get their energy from other people and introverts have a certain supply of energy and they give it sparingly and must recharge by being alone.
I could tell Laura was an introvert. I’m an introvert too. I’ve actually had people laugh at me when I’ve said I’m an introvert. Just because you’re friendly, chatty & comfortable around people, doesn’t mean that’s where you prefer to be. A shout-out to all us introverts! 😊
I did exactly the same!! I rewatched all the previous years and very often I like to rewatch garden tours from different seasons and years, I have a few faves on repeat :)
I can so identify with Laura being 100% introvert myself. The way she described herself she could have been describing me. I think that’s part of why I am so addicted to her videos. I feel like “finally, someone who gets me”. Lol
Laura, you have so many folks that watch everyone of your videos. We are all hooked. I myself can not miss a single episode. You are way to organize.I keep track of what I need to do based on what you are doing.
I watch all your videos. I’m an apartment dweller in NYC. I don’t have a garden, only a few house plants & I set my phone daily to be the 1st to click the like button as I’m stepping on the train to work. Garden Answers is the BEST part of my day! Thank you Laura/Aaron/staff! (Susan, Monica, kiddos, Russell & Cheddar) ❤️❤️❤️
Laura, I couldn't help but laugh when you said you don't expect anyone to watch all of your videos....I've been following you since the townhome videos & I can happily say that I have literally watched all of your videos!
Don’t fret about being an introvert. You are what you are. Just own it and hold your head up high. Thousands and thousands of people love you just as you are!
I don’t pay for Cable, only Internet, and I WATCH ALL YOUR VIDEOS, (and other garden or peaceful RUclipsrs). Some day when Garden Answer is tired of doing videos 6 days a week, hopefully you’ll be archived on YT 🙂. Been watching for 5 years. Thanks for being so energetic in doing daily videos, especially with trying to have your own life with your sweet family.
When Laura walked out of the frame to get the Tomato-tone and also back into the frame with the Tomato-tone at the same time I thought, "yeah, that's about her speed in normal life I think". Now we know how she gets all this stuff done in a day!
Laughing out loud, because I wish I could speed part of some days up. Just not when I have my Grandkids, that time is special and I want to soak that time in!
Not a question but I watched an old Q and A, Laura was listing the different wishes she has for her garden. Most of them are fulfilled as of now. I find that so cool and definitely a blessed person.
Don’t change anything about the way you do your show. Obviously people love it like it is. I’m referring to the comment someone made about perhaps doing a show about lawn maintenance and you were commenting how your show was just about your days in the garden ( or shopping with mom or a cooking something delicious)rather than just one subject per show. I never watch garden shows but I stumbled on your show and immediately fell in love with the show and love watching every morning. You start my day with beauty and joy and family. So many people feel that way. You might say it’s not just a gardening show but rather a show about a gardening family and their community ( and their cats). One of the great things about your day ( each show) is that you are often doing more than one thing and the variety in each program is great. The thought of this show ever going away - well don’t even want to think about it. It’s just perfect.
🍂I agree with you completley, except that I would not call it a "show" since they do not plan and execute what they are showing. They are documenting how their daily routine goes via video and edit that video to keep it at certain length and fix any frames that need fixing in order to make it looks smooth and continue. So I would say: "I stumbled on your 'video'..." Please do not take offense on my comment. 🍂
Love your videos, Laura! For those having issues with turf, I would definitely recommend getting your lawn tested by your local cooperative extension before applying gypsum, etc. The results will inform you what nutrients are lacking so that you don’t have to add anything unnecessary.
I'm a newly diagnosed Autistic Adult of 39 years. I'm a forgotten generation. I don't like talking to new people, talking on the phone, changing plans all of a sudden. I don't like going to the store with my kids. Amongst other things. Being alone in my garden is my jam. 😆 Autism is such a broad spectrum. I knew something was up for many years but I didn't fit the "normal " Autistic mold. I look "normal". I don't shut down or melt down in front of people. I'm not handicapped. I can survive on my own. I can look at your eyes and work the room. I learned to mask. Females are far better masking our autism than males. I'm learning me again because many moons ago I was told to sit down and stop talking. To look "normal" and be calm. To interact with people, stranger that you don't know and NEVER will know. I'm not neurotypical and the stigma of autism is still there. Hopefully one day that stigma will no longer exist.
I am 66 and I know I’m on the spectrum, but never been diagnosed. I think it’s helpful to know why we struggle with certain things, but none of us can fit very easily in a box. We are all unique and just have to find ways to cope that works for each of us.
@@cynthiafisher9907 yeah. Looking at enough information. Examples. Videos. Taking multiple quizzes that say in the end: "You might be in the spectrum, seek professional help." Really Not an everyday occurrence for the common folk.
Oh my goodness, I sit with my coffee, screen shot and taking notes! Aaron your work with the drone is remarkable and aerial of the flowers being gathered was magnificent. I have been watching you Laura for a few years and honestly you've not aged a bit. I love your attention to detail, and the wonderful way you describe what you're doing in all the videos. I will definitely be rewatching videos, and hoping my garden space turns out as beautiful as yours. Thank You both for sharing your love of gardening with us ❤️
I bought a concrete bench for my WA State garden from a lovely shop down in Newberg, OR. I put it under a Lady Banks rose and next to a California Lavender and it is one of my favorite places in my garden. I am old and have hip issues and I still find that little place in my garden magical. I sit there with a cup of coffee and listen to the birds in the cherry tree (Borrowed landscape). I do watch every single one of your videos! Thank you!
Yes, Aaron! We've been working on surrounding our 1 acre rural property with evergreens similar to what you see in country estates. I've always loved the way that looks, and it definitely does add to the cozy private feel.
Love you idea to do "content timeline" types of videos! The lawn care start to finish video works! I'd LOVE to see "Dahlia's start to finish" for this past year b/c you change up your system each year. :) Thanks again for ALL that you do for your viewers!
Good morning Laura and Aaron!!! Everyone out here in Garden Answer Land is aghast at the thought that we would miss EVEN ONE of the weekly videos much less the highlight video every Saturday! Such sacrilege!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 hugs from N.C..❤️
Arron has a few videos on the planting, maintenance of the grass, including air rating the lawn. Maybe, you could pull those videos and clips and have Arron do a lawn q&a because he does such a wonderful job with the lawn, and has an easy going way of explaining why he does what he does.
Good morning, Laura & Aaron ☕️ Funny you say you don’t expect someone to watch every single video because I do 😂 I watch every single one every day at 7:00 AM with my first cup of coffee.
OMG Laura, yes forgetting names of objects (graham crackers) is normal. Years ago I started a new job, and was filling out a list of supplies I needed. For the life of me I couldn’t remember the name “paper clip”. I remember thinking how am I going to tell this person, “ you know those things that hold papers together, I need some of those” 🤷♀️
I love your videos. They are such a comfort. I enjoy all the family and community moments you share as well. I love your home and land and it is a pleasure and joy to watch all that you do with it.
"Stone path garden" Perfection. I hope they keep that name. Yes, more ponds/water features. Love the progress in the gardens, especially around the Hartley.
Morning, love the recap video this morning! Just a suggestion…could you use muriatic acid on the new brick? I seal our brick to keep the color and helps with erosion too. Not slippy at all! See ya in the morning! Like everyone else your videos are my coffee and inspiration for the day! ❤
I always enjoy seeing the different videos. Garden shows or visiting resale stores with your Mother or also your Sister. The time you made the rack for the greenhouse. All nice events to share. The wedding of your friends.
Of course I watch ALL videos its part of my routine, find new plant varieties, reminders, tips and more! I've hated daffodils my whole life and I just planted 150 daffodils bulbs because of Laura opening my world to more varieties over n over again.
My personality is much like yours-I enjoy my time alone but I can talk to anyone when needed.😊 You are so natural in front of the camera and it feels like you are talking to us like friends. I love the highlights-so much more good information-Thanks for sharing.
I am outside in my garden all the time, and kind neighbors walking their dogs, or just themselves, always stop, introduce themselves, and we talk about something in the garden or whatever. They all know my name and I cannot remember any of their names!! It has been years now, and too many to ask names, so just a smile and hi will have to do.
I watch all of your videos every morning while drinking my coffee. I watch Jenny with Creekside also every morning. I am learning so much from both of you.
I love the conversations you and Aaron have. ie: the sumac suckers Even though you may not agree with each other you always come to a consensus. Great partnership you have. I watch every single episode you tape and occasionally see them twice! I'm sure that I'm not the only one who watches everything you post.
Aaron I really like the shirt you are wearing today!! I love that Aaron is participating more in these videos. So happy I found your channel and the two of you. Such down to earth family.
you both are so on point regarding arborists! in fall 2018, i provided recommendations to a client reding two redbuds in dire need of attention. "thanks, but my sister is an arborist and she said there's nothing to worry about, they're fine." 3 months later, the first morning of snowmageddon, i received a frantic call and photos; one of the perfectly fine trees lost 7 limbs into the street, on the sidewalk, onto 4 cars, and 2 limbs fell onto a sloped garden, dragging the entire garden down the hill into the sidewalk. because they're also friends, i couldn't help but ask if her certification was part of an arborist in a box kit from amazon at 2 in the morning.
We planted my Dad’s land with 40,000 white pine trees in central WI. They were small 2nd year trees. When we took them out of the box we unwound them then cut about 3-4 inches off the roots before planting. That’s what the arborist instructed. The roots were still better than 12 in’s long though. We lost very few trees and then only in a really sandy dry soil area where nothing likes to grow. Trees might be different than more tender plants. There was only 5 of us who planted them and 3 were my and my sisters 3 teenagers. It was an Easter break project for 3 years. 🌲
I'm loving your videos and enjoying the recap at the end of a busy week - the beauty of your spaces and the wealth of your knowledge is an honor to be a part of, the inspiration I get from you both is unsurpassable! 👍👏💗
Laura, I had to laugh when as you exited stage left (to get the Tomato-tone bag) ...then here comes Laura ...stage right, walking directly behind you nearly on your own heals. 🤣😂🤣Ken did a GREAT JOB on the editing, as he always does! Arron and Laura, you are truly blessed to have such a wonderful team of people who work for you, Bethany, Paul, Ken, and all the wonderful contractors, like Bennie's crew that you hire to do projects on your property. ❤🤗👋👋
I have had good luck getting rid of vines that are in shrubs by pulling the end of the vine out of the shrub (don't break or cut it), putting it in a zip lock bag, spraying the vine inside the bag with an herbacide, and then closing the bag around the stem of the vine. The vine inside the bag takes up the herbacide and it kills the roots of the vine so it doesn't come back but the shrub is protected. You have to be careful not to get the herbacide on the shrub or let it run out of the bag onto good plants, but it seems to work well for me.
Totally understand the relief of having help to clean out your garden spaces. It is satisfying to seeing spaces cleaned up. Would you ever film your staff to show it being done?
I, like many others, love the lawn that has been planted and the drone shots. Especially those of us that live in California and have been requested/asked to remove their lawns do to drought!!! I remember how fun it was to walk barefoot on my lawn, etc. Thanks
Laura, everything you said about your personality I sooo relate to: names, events, details that are not important me … but I love talking to people especially with shared interests.
Laura and Aaron, I watch all your videos and have recommended them to all my gardening friends. Love the transformation of your beautiful property and look forward to seeing each new video.
Laura, we do all ‘lose words’ from time to time. But I’m past 70 now and believe me it gets worse! I love ALL of your videos, once in a great while will skip one when I’m short on time and you’re concentrating on plants that I can’t grow in Florida.
You are in good company, shy and introvert here! 😄 Being forgetful, just wait - it gets even better! Forgetting basic words like couch, toaster, stovetop. So much fun! 🤦🏻♀️😆
I think what Roxanne was referring to was the tree placement. Looks like the one huge maple you took out because it was broken was in a different spot. I had the same thought, but although I have to say I like what you got going on now better!
I love these recap videos the most! I wonder if you would be willing to do an end of season progress video with drone footage of the before and after from the 2022 season? I bet it wild be spectacular!!
Have you thought about getting the new brick pathway professionally cleaned? They usually use stronger pressure washers and maybe that will be able to get the sand film off, instead of having to wait.
I used landscape fabric when I had a dog that loved to dig. It worked great for that. But when I removed it a few years later - it was like the dirt was dead. No earthworms, bugs or organic material and plants didn’t do well. Still working on trying to get the soil healthy. I think it’s great to use in areas such as walkways under gravel where you won’t plant.
You could try asking in the Spring and Summer for jar donations....Just a local thing at your parents store? And maybe a piece of masking tape with a name, might give you a late Summer bouquet? Just a thought
Bahahaaa, both your faces after you said "I think that's normal" talking about memory. 🤣😂😅 You two are a hoot together, I love it! Thank you both for the great videos. Aaron, yes we need grass videos - I've always wondered why other videos showed great gardens and a weed lawns. Please, please, please do a segment or 2 or 3. 😁
Such an informative and interesting program this week. Thank you so much ... and yes, your design around the Hartley is gorgeous. You two are truly talented.
Aaron, my husband highly recommends Volt Lighting. We have had their landscape lighting for years and love it! Volt’s customer service is top notch!!! If we have any problems with a fixture they will replace it. P.S. your grass is beautiful!
I have renamed Aaron " The Grass Whisperer"!!!! That new grass is just gorgeous!!!! So much has been done in the new space this summer, it makes my head spin!
Hi Laura, you are such a bright light for me with your sweet and kind disposition and also an incredible inspiration to me as I dig deeper into the gardening world. 😉Thank you! ❤️ I have recently been gifted a beautiful cement bird bath and cement water feature which have become garden treasures. I have read that a freeze can crack and break the cement. My question is, do you protect your cement features during the winter and if so how? I live in zone8b, the Pacific North West, so we mostly get rain but we do get several freezes in a winter as well. Thank you for your wisdom, Erin.
I think I’m you. As a retired garden designer, it took a lot to make myself meet people. Presentations and classes/lectures were so difficult up to the moment until the question time came up about gardening and their own issues. At that point, I would feel more comfortable, more at ease and ultimately excited to talk to them and help them out since I was familiar with solving some of their problems. I think giving them answers one on one definitely help create rapport with them and also relaxed me. Knowledge about a subject totally helps! (Definitely an introvert with a some shyness thrown in. 😳) Thank you Laura for sharing your thoughts. Nice to know I’m not alone!
Bindweed, to kill it, cut the vine down but leave a few inches and dip that last portion into a small bottle of the liquid killer of choice. The vine will drink some of it, do it with each vine coming up.
Great recap. Lots of projects coming along and look amazing. Stuff getting buttoned up before winter. Fantastic. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us. Appreciated.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

There's something called an "ambivert", too.
ambivert: a person who has a balance of extrovert and introvert features in their personality.

I watch every time you have new upload thank you very much Laura, Aaron and your Team 👍❤️🙏
That was my response too!!
Same here. Their channel is better than anything on TV!
Exactly! I was thinking ' Laura, you don't know your people. Every minute is like spending time with a friend, so every minute is precious "
I just saw that part. Of course we do.
People misconstrue introversion with being shy, quiet, unfriendly etc. It just really means that social interaction is draining and we value our alone time to recharge. I love the editing where Laura leaves the table from the left side of our screen and comes back in the right side at the same time. Clever.
My grandson was so confused, like how'd she do that 😂
Agreed - that was such a cool edit!
So do I! I wish I could figure out how to do that!

Everyone else: you missed a day this week😅😅
I watch them all! 💗
A day without Laura is a day without sunshine!

Me too! 🎃
Same.
I think the ones that watch the recaps are hardcore fans 😂
I’m always excited to see the ongoing progress of things coming together. This year has been amazing in all that’s been done!!!💚💚💚

Morning, love the recap video this morning! Just a suggestion…could you use muriatic acid on the new brick? I seal our brick to keep the color and helps with erosion too. Not slippy at all! See ya in the morning! Like everyone else your videos are my coffee and inspiration for the day! ❤
Can you put this on old bricks? I lost a few last winter due to water and freezing? Thanks!
I always enjoy seeing the different videos. Garden shows or visiting resale stores with your Mother or also your Sister. The time you made the rack for the greenhouse. All nice events to share. The wedding of your friends.
8:35 I see you, Ken. I always appreciate your occasional comical inserts or these kinds of slick edits. Nice!
I do watch all your videos! Getting caught up now as we were away and super busy this past month! Love them all!
I watch all your videos! Because I love the “snippets” of information you give. If I don’t watch, I’m afraid I’ll miss something. 🥰🤣🥰
Doesn't expect anyone to watch all their videos... as I have binged 7 hours today alone!
8:36 ~ That was slick editing! Loved it! Always great to see two Lauras at a time. Enjoy your day. xo
I Love, Love,Love the formal Hartley garden….to me it creates a calmness in a garden space…..so happy you use your space to teach us all.
I must say Aaron is looking very nice today. I love his shirt. 😊
Don’t worry Laura it is normal to forget names. Thanks for sharing that with us! ❤
You made me feel better, Laura. My mind treats name as an unimportant detail. They rarely stick unless I’m extremely intentional about it.
I forget names a lot! Even when I’m trying to make a point of remembering. Still hard for me.
Thanks a million for this idea! We have serious vine problems in one part of our garden. The roots are impossible to pull.
Awesome tip! Thanks🎃
Totally understand the relief of having help to clean out your garden spaces. It is satisfying to seeing spaces cleaned up. Would you ever film your staff to show it being done?
You guys are making that whole place look absolutely awesome.😊
We thrive in our passion and there is nothing wrong with that. It takes all kinds to make this world of ours go around. Blissings to you and yours!
So….Laura, I watch Garden Answer very first thing in the morning. My favorite RUclips channel. Love y’all! 💙
Laura, we do all ‘lose words’ from time to time. But I’m past 70 now and believe me it gets worse! I love ALL of your videos, once in a great while will skip one when I’m short on time and you’re concentrating on plants that I can’t grow in Florida.
We call that a “brain poot” ! 😂!
Did you ever consider doing a podcast?
These recaps and your q&a videos are great to listen to, especially for someone following all the videos.
I just love your recap video, been fallow your videos for the past 5years. Keep up with the videos just love it.
Oh yes I watch every video as well. That’s the first thing I do when I get my cup of coffee!!!!!
The Tiger Eye Sumacs are gorgeous, suckers and all! They are lovely Aaron! 😂
You are in good company, shy and introvert here! 😄 Being forgetful, just wait - it gets even better! Forgetting basic words like couch, toaster, stovetop. So much fun! 🤦🏻♀️😆
You don’t expect everyone to watch all of your videos? I most certainly do! Highlight of my day every day no pun intended 😂
I think what Roxanne was referring to was the tree placement. Looks like the one huge maple you took out because it was broken was in a different spot. I had the same thought, but although I have to say I like what you got going on now better!
Next time you do the Ina Gartner soup try roasting the squash first. It takes the soup to a whole new level!
I watch all your videos and some more than once!!! ❤️
Really enjoyed the video. Looking forward to Hartley area work continuing. Y’all are the best!
You could try asking in the Spring and Summer for jar donations....Just a local thing at your parents store?
And maybe a piece of masking tape with a name, might give you a late Summer bouquet?
Just a thought
Aaron, you were so right about the grass paths! I wasn’t on board at first but it is amazing and so lush.
I watch your video everyday! 🤣 I found you during lockdown and I've gone back and watched almost all your episode. Love you guys!
Great editing Aaron, loved when Laura went exit stage left and came back in on the right with the Tomato-tone!! FUN!!
Maybe that was Ed?
Bahahaaa, both your faces after you said "I think that's normal" talking about memory. 🤣😂😅 You two are a hoot together, I love it! Thank you both for the great videos. Aaron, yes we need grass videos - I've always wondered why other videos showed great gardens and a weed lawns. Please, please, please do a segment or 2 or 3. 😁
Such an informative and interesting program this week. Thank you so much ... and yes, your design around the Hartley is gorgeous. You two are truly talented.
Laura and Aaron, I truly attempt to watch ALL your videos. They are all wonderful.
Aaron, my husband highly recommends Volt Lighting. We have had their landscape lighting for years and love it! Volt’s customer service is top notch!!! If we have any problems with a fixture they will replace it. P.S. your grass is beautiful!
That transition with Tomato-tone was gasp worthy! Incredible job 😊
Oh yes we do watch every video laura!!!!
My mum would roast pumpkin and add grained mustard. Yum
I watch all your videos, and save the ones that I can go back and get information. Love your videos
I have renamed Aaron " The Grass Whisperer"!!!! That new grass is just gorgeous!!!! So much has been done in the new space this summer, it makes my head spin!
Butternut squash also makes a great pie. You can use it like pumpkin or switch up the spices with it.
Coffee with Laura starts my day....
Laura don’t feel bad! I met you at the meet and greet in Mackinac and was stumbling over words like an idiot! Lol. I’m a fellow introvert.
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day
Hi Laura, you are such a bright light for me with your sweet and kind disposition and also an incredible inspiration to me as I dig deeper into the gardening world. 😉Thank you! ❤️
I have recently been gifted a beautiful cement bird bath and cement water feature which have become garden treasures. I have read that a freeze can crack and break the cement. My question is, do you protect your cement features during the winter and if so how? I live in zone8b, the Pacific North West, so we mostly get rain but we do get several freezes in a winter as well. Thank you for your wisdom, Erin.
Yes my home is my getaway from the draining world these past years I planted cypress trees for privacy this summer 😊
Aaron, please keep a calendar next year of your lawn care applications and then let’s talk about it again next year at this time. 😊
