Your baking together brings back memories. My mom, my sister, my very young niece & I use to get together & make Christmas cookies, all in one day & then divide them. We did that for years. My niece is now 42 yrs old & it's been a few yrs since we've attempted that. My mom is 98, I'm 75, my sister 60 & niece 42. Lots of yrs have passed but the memories are still there for all of us. Thanks for helping to bring back those memories.
Memories are so very important. I am not the grandmother, and I am happiest in the kitchen with my daughters and grandchildren. Something to be very thankful for this Thanksgiving!

My mom was a fantastic cook and Baker. She had multiple recipe boxes filled with her recipe cards written in her terrible teeny scribble all up, down and around the cards. During the year after she died, i pulled out my and my sisters favorite 'mom' recipes. I typed them up but also copied the original stained, scribbled cards. Put those chosen recipes together and bound them with inexpensive spiral (one page with original and facing page with typed version). At her memorial service a year later, I put those bound slim recipe books out for my mom's relatives and friends who had come. It turned out to be a wonderful warm memory and conversation starter of great stories. My sisters and I still use that recipe book and often prefer to look at the pages with the original cards on it. Happy memories.

Laura, you can send your Kitchenaid back to the factory, and they will fix it, and make it run like new for you. I send mine in (circa 1960's) every 10 years for them to go over, and make sure it stays in it's prime condition. It's not very expensive, considering new prices to replace them.
Someone sent her a new one a couple of years ago after she mentioned that it was broken. But this is good to know!

Thank you for showing me the possibility of family and the joy it can bring. I have always wished for a family that at least gets along whenever they get together. Now that I'm older I know that will never be possible. Gatherings are always a chore, disputes always arise, and old grievances are always brought up. The holidays are a sad and depressing time for those of us who are never able to come together in peace with our family. Although it will never be possible for my family to unite in a way that is healthy and happy, I want to thank you for showing me that such a thing exists. Two things…First, I think most families are “bumpy” and this one is an exception. Second, I have noticed that the “bumpiness” is caused by different wave lengths of people’s point of view and not meant to be negative…but it sure seems like that!
@@mollypitcher9380 Thanks so much for your comment. I realized during Thanksgiving that each family member is on a different wavelength, as you say. And I found some time to think about that and celebrate the differences rather than feel remorse over what could have been. Onward!
The best Christmas present my kids said they ever received from me was a binder I put together with all the favorite family recipes! I made notes on each one as to whose favorite it was and where the recipe came from. I also wrote a personal note inside each binder, reminding each child what they loved to eat growing up. The gift itself cost very little, but the time and and effort and joy I got from putting it together was priceless! My adult kids are now enjoying making memories with their own children in their kitchens…makes my heart feel good!

My mom and I always make Christmas cookies together every year. She is in the heaven. Been 6 years. Hit me very hard when you guys making the cookies. Miss my mom very much.

It's been a year. I'm revisiting videos from last year just to get in the mood. The shut down kept families apart, and last year was the first time in two years my kids and grandkids came for the traditional Christmas dinner. I have great grand babies now. Children are the best part of any Holiday. Laura and her family can get you in the mood an inspire you to get it done. Love her creativity in decorating. I know she will soon be doing her Christmas decor pretty soon now. She's into getting her fall done. Plus maybe going back will help her channel. I noticed it let me do a thumbs up,tho I have watched it before, never miss a video.

Yes, I live SW Idaho, about 30 minutes from Laura, and I have noticed the same thing this year. We have had a lot more color in the leaves than usual and also the trees are hanging onto their leaves more than usual. I don’t know why, but I have really enjoyed it!
Yesterday I had the same conversation with my daughter about the beautiful color everywhere. I think its because the temps have been dipping down much earlier for us than our usual January here in zone 9b. We still have leaves on many of the trees so it has been an incredible show! Love the family videos.

Nothing more precious than handwritten recipes! Laminate them so they are preserved longer. (Maybe run copies, too, and laminate for each family.) It has worked well for my go to recipes. The arrangement and family baking was a special treat.
Oh the memories you stirred in me. My momma used to bake the peanut butter blossom cookies every year for Christmas. An the divinity she made was so delicious. I also remember her trying to make pie crust but while my great grandmother was alive she'd push mom aside and take over. She did make the best pies. I still can remember the day mom pulled out the last pie granny made. Mom cried knowing that we would be having the last pie.

Laura, your mom should talk to Kitchen-Aid tell them that the Wisk broke, and they sometime will send out another one. And you should laminate your recipes so they will last. I laminate all mine and then put them in a binder, (all of them under what they are, like desserts candy) (Sorry i'm a Virgo. I Can't help it.) everything looks so good. @@carolynwhylie8605 when my twins bake with me, it’s the same way. One has to have lines with perfect diagonals, the other is just loving her life and setting things down where it’s practical.

This video reminded me of the open house that my wife and I had every Christmas. She generally made about 200 dozen cookies to serve at the open house and then to give as gifts as people left. I remember taking the wrappers off of hundreds of chocolate kisses for the Peanut Butter Blossoms. This video got me ready for Christmas.

there have been some pumpkin recipes failures here in Canada because the ED Smith cans have been changed and now one of the top 3 ingredients is water (replacing oil) so know they are super watery and they didn't let consumers know, the only way you know is to look at the ingredients list! i know this sounds crazy but my cheesecake didn't bake and i don't want it to happen to anyone else!

Oh gosh, I really wanted that pumpkin bars recipe, but there was more instruction on the back that we couldn't see. I just love those recipes that are handed down through the generations and cherished like precious family heirlooms. Can you post the recipe somehow?
