- In this video I’m back aboard the Qatar Airways Airbus A380 from London Heathrow through to Doha, Qatar.
Following on on from a great experience aboard the same aircraft and same cabin back in November, I was keen to see if it’s still one of the best ways to fly economy in 2023…
Overall, another super experience. The catering and service by the fantastic crew as ever were the standouts. Just like my previous experience, I was able to get a window seat on the upper deck - for sure the best cabin choice in economy onboard.
If you’re keen to check out the frequent flyer lounge at Heathrow, I’ll put the video just below as it’s uploaded:
To check out a longer insight into the seating on the upper deck, you can check out my recent review of it from Bangkok where I was able to file it far more extensively:

Thank you so much. This is so informative. I'll be flying Qatar Airways next year in March from South Africa to Doha. I can't wait.
You’re very welcome indeed! Have an amazing flight ✈️
Excellent , a great help to see the layout and plugs etc 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it
Great to see more economy reviews
👍
On the basis of your last upstairs on the Qatar A380, I booked the same seat as you at the bulkead window on the Doha to Sydney route. My destination was Melbourne but I didnt fancy such a long trip on the 777 three abreast. I've travelled in the upstairs economy on the SIA A380 and I have to say I was very impressed with the Qatar experience. The food was good and the cabin roomy and comfortable. Looking forward to my first trip on the Q suite on the return journey.
Great to hear!
It’s never disappointed for me, such a shame they’ll retire these as soon as they’re able as some sort of refresh in a few years time would see for such a good ultra long haul economy experience for people…
As usual informative video good to to see that you didn't include a full lounge report, the breakfast looked reasonable but presentation could of perhaps been better but the bonus has to still be on a 380.
Thank you, glad it was useful. So tricky with the presentation of that particular breakfast, perhaps the sauce could’ve been done slightly different. A380 always a pleasure to fly on!
Thank you fir sharing your trip.
You’re very welcome!
@@Travelsbydreamer Sorry!! The fir should be "for". Typing fast with a thumb!!! Geezzz!!! ☺ Smile
@@LMays-cu2hp haha no worries, we all do it 😅
Amazing video ❤😊
Thank you! 😃
Good video!❤️
Thank you!
Great video, I'll be flying Qatar Airways from Manchester to Perth via Doha in January and the leg between Doha and Perth is on the A380. Can't wait
Thank you and enjoy!
I'm doing that next month. Can I ask please, how was the transit through Doha? I'm travelling alone this time, and I am a bit worried about not finding my way through to my next flight. Thanks x
@@UKAussie269 always a real pleasure through Doha. The airport rates consistently as one of the best in the world and better still, there’s just a single huge terminal. They have amazing facilities, even a swimming pool and the staff are great. Well worth checking out the gardens up near gate D from memory. Enjoy!
I just flew this aircraft 8 hours ago but from Doha to Heathrow. The staff were arrogant and rude and they just simply didnt care. Dinner was nice with a amazing pudding aswell but the breakfast was disgusting.
Good to hear some of the catering was up to the usual standards. Very rare to have anything other than a super crew with the airline. Hopefully a better trip next time!
Great video thanks. On the upper deck would you ever go for the exit row above the window if you had the choice?
Thank you! That’s a really good question, I think if I was a little taller, I’d for sure consider it. That said, I’m 180cm and never have any issues legroom wise. Much prefer the standard seats typically as the TV screen is so much better orientated. The side storage is then also a huge bonus which I’m not sure you’d still get in the exit row…
Sydney - Doha Qatar airways.
The seats was so narrow, my knee's was touching the seat in front of me I'm 180cm tall.
Food was ok. The service bit confusing. Young and un experience staff.
Doha-Sofia, the seat's were good, the food was so sweet, that my sugar level gone above 20...
Unbelievable for any airline in terms of servicing food.
Over all 3 star airline.
Hearing a few mixed reviews from Qatar these days which is really surprising. Never anything but a world class experience with them from my side but can’t get away from some of these opposing reviews these days which is interesting…
Nice to see a normal person reviewing a flight instead of the usual cringy weirdos
Haha thanks, there’s a few characters out there for sure…
Trek Trendy; makes me throw up every time he sips his champagne and winks at the camera, and who wears NASA clothes?! NonstopDan, nice guy, good reviews, but he's vegan and doesn't really drink so a bit useless on that front. Winging it Paul Lucas, has as much charisma as my hamster and Noel Phillips is just plain weird.@@Travelsbydreamer
@@CyclespeedTourswhat about josh Cahill?
@@falcon1017 yeah he seems fairly normal too!
@@falcon1017 He's a bit controversial. Got banned on Qatar. He's started a hashtag campaign with his name on. I don't like his clickbait thumbnails and video titles.
Flew on A380 from Sydney to Doha and I must say I was very shocked how different my experience with the plane was compared to my previous experience back in 2018, when I flew from Frankfurt to Miami. Had no issues with comfort, the food tasted better and generally it was a much better experience.
On this, most recent experience, the comfort of the seat was terrible. 4 days after the flight and my back is still sore, the seat is very hard and there's no space if you're above average in size.
Not good to hear! Especially when compared to I assume a Lufthansa experience?
I had the same terrible experience from Cape Town to Bali in March, just the worst ever, nits gone down the drain , however A380 is always a different experience but mostly fly Doha to Heathrow return.
TbD - as a fellow OW Emerald passenger, appears you didn't (couldn't use) the premium check-in at T4? Regular line, right?
Ahhh so sadly I’ve dropped down to sapphire now, on that day however I’d already queued so much in the standard line, I didn’t fancy risking it across! With emerald however, I’d for sure try it though.
Great review! Did you pay additional to pre-select these seats? We fly MAN ~ Doha ~ SYD in March and these seats cost £104 per person person on the Doha to SYD leg. Probably worth it given it 14hr journey and with kids in tow. ✈️
Thanks so much! I didn’t but that’s only thanks to status with the One World Alliance. I’ve been aware for a while they can charge a fair bit for them. But as you say, well worth it for longer flights, it really is a cut above the standard economy experience for me 😃
Yup! Sold.. you should be on commission 😉 I don’t mind paying that given I had to pay similar to pre-select business class seats with BA.. which is just bonkers when you’re paying so much.
@@PhillPugh-db9du hahaha maybe I should approach them and ask for an arrangement!
You’re absolutely right, can remember paying £70 odd for a business seat selection one way to North America with BA not long ago
I'm flying with Qatar in an A380 in June and have seen recommendations for row 25 or 30 in the upper deck. Given theres no seat in front, where is the entertainment screen for these seats? I saw your other A380 video and you recommend row 28?
Hmm, I’m not always a huge fan of those front of bulkhead seats. Great for legroom which is ideal if you’re 6ft+ however, the TV’s generally come up from the armrest which results in them being at a lower height. Would recommend the row I went for unless you’re really tall but, to be honest, any of the twins by the window are a great way to fly economy! ✈️
@@Travelsbydreamer that's great, thank you. I'm (just about) 6ft so the row you went for should be fine and seems like a good way to go!
@@edwardbrown6747 yeah too true! Enjoy :)
Do they offer snacks and beverages in the galley on economy?
Drinks for sure, can just go and request from experience. They don’t however have a snack and drink selection on hand so to speak…
Qatar best airlines
Agreed! 😃
Don't you get a amenaty kit from the qater airline?
Not in economy these days sadly…
Hello there can you also check in online ?
Yeah, usually with Qatar airways! 😀
so he actually did premium economy here, instead of normal economy?
This is their standard economy product, just on the upper deck. As good as this looks, Qatar airways don’t actually do a premium economy cabin as believe their economy overlaps with many others carriers’ PE.
What's the best economy seat on an A380?
Any of the seats by the window generally work really well. I particularly liked the ones back against the bulkhead with no one behind 👍
Business class or nothing. They are very expensive too.
Are you allowed to go to the bar if you're an economy passenger but seated in the upper deck? Did you try?
That’s a definite no sadly. The bar is just for the premium cabins so in this case, the business and first class cabins. An amazing experience if you can do it one day, I very briefly feature it in my Qatar Airways First Class vid 😊
@@Travelsbydreamer But the curtains aren't just open were you can walk right in? 😅 or is it fully enclosed from the economy section? Do you see it when boarding?
@@mustafashulqamy1844 there’s a curtain which is drawn back for takeoff and landing but then sealed with a rope across. If you’re looking for a quick peak, you might get a glimpse during those times but even disembarkation and boarding is then down the rear staircase and back through economy often…
How long does it take to check in?
It was quite some time that day 45-60 mins but that was exceptional in my experience thankfully. Generally 10-15 mins tops with any well performing airline but when they have two going out from Heathrow in the morning, be sure to be there nicely on time!
No amenities kit?
Sadly not in economy these days
My economy experience on Qatar A380 in February '23 (BKK-DOH) wasn't bad at all. I was seated in (41H) which is on the right side of the staircase. Other than the crying baby that sat two rows behind me. I don't have any genuine complaints. The only issues that occurs when flying on Qatar are with other passengers not having any manners while flying. This includes europeans! 🤣
Good to hear you had a decent experience. Haha yeah, the screaming infant never makes for an especially relaxing flight 😅
tiny seats
Welcome to the world of economy travel 😉
@@TravelsbydreamerThey have gotten smaller over the years.
I will never flight with qatar on A380 flight. Worst experience ever.
Totally agree, Qatar have gone downhill over the last 5 years.
Qatar has gone down the drain as far as lm concerned, disgusting food, rude staff and tiny narrow seats, awful. Just flew to Bali it took 31 hours, horrendous.
What plane were you on?
