You guys have created many videos that address the issue of iPhone battery drain. Thanks for that - useful information.
But one subject you have avoided is CarPlay. I recently bought a new car that includes quite a bit of native automation. A neighbor suggested that using CarPlay would be easier than trying to learn totally new systems, but I quickly determined that CarPlay has a downside - it drains the phone battery rapidly. My car was designed support CarPlay through a wired connection to the phone - that worked, but it was a PITA to have to dig out the phone and plug it in, so I bought a dongle that provided a wireless connection. That also worked, but I found that a short 25 mile ride around town used almost 50% of the capacity of my phone battery - no way would that be practical for a long road trip!

Ever since updated to iOS 16 my battery drain has been terrible. I thought the updates may fix it but now at 16.5 it is even worse. I just about to have to keep the phone on a charger because of the fast drain. Battery was usage was good before 16 and my battery health reads 100%. The battery was replaced on this phone less than 2 yrs. ago. I have tried every tip from this and other sites to stop it but to no avail. I charged the phone to 100% yesterday before bed time and left off of the charger overnight. In the morning it was at 22% just sitting there on the table beside the bed. I am at wits end as my phone is rapidly becoming useless unless hooked up to a charger.

Telecommunications specialist here, on recent phones the drain difference between 4G and 5G is not noticeable because the modems are way more efficient than before. What can cause some loss of battery is if your area has poor 5G coverage and your phone needs to raise its power a little more to reach the tower. ... Remember, phones with 5G are seen as 1st class, by the network algorithm, in terms of priority to access towers ... For example, in a crowded place like a concert or stadium, the 5G capable phone might be able to make/receive a call while the non 5G phone will have to wait to connect to a busy tower...

About closing apps. First year with my Iphone 13 Pro Max I used to close apps all the time. Probably 2-3 times a day on average. Battery health drained 11% in the first year. Had all the important battery saving settings checked. Second year of use I stopped closing apps and battery health drained only 2%. The only different thing I personally did was that I stopped closing apps in the background. Now I do it maybe once or twice every 3-4 weeks. Now I’m sitting at 87% after two years. Wish I knew that since the beginning. By the way I still use motion, haptics etc.

@@mrconfident786it’s more like saving your phone’s battery health for when you actually have to utilize it. If you can have a charger available the 80-20 is a good to go.
I’ve followed it without any sort of “mental gymnastics” and has lasted me throughout the day. And when I have to use it longer without charging, I just crank it up to whatever I want because at the end of the day, I did buy it to use it.

I have a big question about location settings- it occurs to me that apple is probably pretty economical with this service.
It’s most likely the cases that if you have even one location setting turned on that is used with any frequency that apple probably is going to ping you with that pretty frequently and then share that ping with all other apps that wish to know where you are.
This would mean that if you use any location detection then you might as well have them all on. I do not believe apple is running separate location pings for every single switch that is turned on, they’re probably pinging at the lowest frequency they can for the location services you have on and then just sharing them across the board.
The only thing that could really help with battery in location settings is either turning everything off (even then, there’s probably background stuff apple won’t let you change) OR turning off anything that is constant and only having the occasional one turned on.
I’d like to know more and hear your thoughts- maybe a video.

One more things which drain battery are some widgets which refresh using data like the weather widget both on your Home Screen and Lock Screen so if you have a bunch of widgets that aren’t useful get rid of them and animated Lock Screens will drain your battery a little bit as well.

These settings do help a lot on my 12 Pro, but enabling low power mode also when not connected to the charger does help me at least get the battery life to what I deem acceptable. Already doing nearly all of these and currently get about 12 hours screen on time on a full charge on my iPhone 14 pro max on iOS 16.4.1. I still charge my phone every night but there’s always between 50% to 70% battery left at the end of the day. Battery health currently on 100% after 5 months use. Hopefully stays that way🤞🏽

I have an iPhone SE 1st gen, replaced the battery it says 100% health but it drains by the minute, the old battery I had would last a lot longer even though it was at 87%.

I always close down apps whenever im done using them, I see no need for them to be open unless I use them a lot like every few minutes. Sure it might take a little more to start up an app from scratch than from the app switcher, but it's so little.

is it safe to still use the belkin mag safe charger over night that apple sells even with the optimized charging and clean energy turned off?

I managed to have battery health at 99% after 2 years of daily use. What I do is to set up an automatic shortcut to make some noise (or make announcement) when charged to 85% so I can unplug. I also set up another shortcut to make noise at 30% to remind me to charge.
To extend the life of battery, try maintaining the battery between 30-85% all the time, and there should be minimal degradation after a couple of years, depending on the usage.

Yes, please share how to set up these alerts.
My iPhone 12 mini was at 87% but I turned on optimize charging because I thought it might help and it automatically dropped to 78% in less than a month 😱 I need to do any and everything to maintain the remaining life of my battery. Many of the settings discussed in this video were on so hoping shutting those settings off will help too but any and all tips appreciated!

@@destinyxrose Start shortcut app and do the followings:
      1. Click the middle bottom tab "Automation"
      2. Click top right corner + sign
      3. Scroll own to around mid bottom to find "Battery Level", and click it.
      4. Select Rises Above 50%, and change the top slider to 80% (or whatever percentage you wish to charge to). Tick Run Immediately at the bottom. Hit next.
      5. search speak, then select "Speak Text" below.
      6. Change the blue "Text" to whatever you wish your iPhone to say out loud when it's charging to this level. e.g. Self destruct sequence commencing in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
      7. Save it by hitting Done on the top right corner.
That should do it, if I didn't omit anything in the instruction.
