Thank you very much for the great info. At 75, this stuff is like a foreign language to me but you make it understandable. I never know whether to do an update or just leave it alone. Our motto growing up on a farm was, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
After switching back again to an iPhone 15 pro (last I had was iPhone 8) after happily enjoying high-end Android devices, I appreciate any hints, recommendations or best practices to make the iPhone/IOS experience less painful and actually enjoyable. Thanks for your content!
Thank you so much! I updated my phone a few weeks ago, and have had to recharge my phone CONSTANTLY! I thought I was going crazy. “What’s up with this battery?” Now I know!
Thank you for what you do, as a Psychologist I struggle to comprehend the authenticity of the word “genius” when it would be “genius” to allow me to know what my phone does clearly and STOP updating a supposedly brilliant device so frequently then complicating HOW I USE MY OWN PHONE you are great thank you !
Ok , I systematically followed I have liked all you videos and systematically turned off your suggested battery saving items as they made sense to me. BUT A few days later I went to use my trusted focus Do Not Disturb and it did not display anymore the option “until I leave this Location”. (sure I still had off “for one hour” or “until this evening” but not the one I use ) I was tearing my hair out until I thought of this video. I went back to your video and retraced my steps. The #1 step was to Turn off “ Alerts & Shortcuts Automations” so I turned it back on and Bingo!!! It worked, the disappearing option in the Focus DND was added back! I realize the aim of this video was to save battery life but some items may have more to them than meets the eye and now I am nervous as what other things in my phone will be affected. Thought you would want to know.
The point of this video is to explain what each of the system services mean and it’s up for you to decide if you use those features or not. If you don’t, you migjt aswell turn it off so you won’t waste battery.
I would love to see a video about what app store privacy issues--what each of the different things under "data linked to you" means, for example, that app devs are collecting and if those things are obligatory or can be turned off once you have the apps
Am in my seventies, am not a “techie”, and so depend on your advice. Thank you. A warning came up in my iPhone that said that my phone was hacked and I am being watched, or something like that. A orangeish yellow dot appears above the Wi-Fi fan when using my cell phone.
Thank you very much for the helpful video. Yesterday, I turned off most of the location services. Today, I found out that the Home app is not working properly anymore. Scenes are not loading (failed), and one of my automations disappeared. I tried to turn on some of the services, but it keeps failing to activate a scene. Any idea how to fix this?
Great video, but I ended up turning “alerts & shortcuts automations” back on. I like to use Focus DND “till I leave this location,” and turning this setting off removed that. Thx!
Thanks for this video. Question: if we turn off the “Cell Network Search”and “Networking & Wireless” Location Services will our devices have to lean on the GPS more to get a precise location for us?
Thank you very much. I have had an iPhone for about 10 years or so. Now I bought the iPhone 15 pro max on June 15,2024 and I'm getting to more and more feathers, thank you very much
I followed this and when I done everything he did when I reopened my phone my Face ID stopped working maybe want to add this disclaimer on what you are turning on or off
I'm not familiar with your channel and just happened to stumble across this video and decided to watch it. Very useful! My iPhone 11 Pro Max battery life is not what it used to be as the battery health is at only 85% now. I followed all your suggestions and hope to see, some improvement in my Battery life.
Great Video, however I turned all these off, and now google maps wont work? Any ideas? Also turned them all back on again, and still doesnt work, even after restarting my phone. Update 1: maps is back but its accuracy is 15km. I turned location services off completely, them back on. Update 2: Gone again, after couple mins. Waze is telling me theirs no gps reception. Update 3: No luck after 20mins faffing around. Going for a walk, thinking it may be because I'm indoors. Even though Ive done a speed test and data is good. Update 4: Its back! - went for a walk, and came back after about 5mins. Now I have kept all system services on, because I don't want to have to go through all that again. but could you help with which of these would have caused this?
I’ve only got an iPhone 6 which I’ve had for 4 years now, it’s good enough for me & I live in the U.K. some of the icons shown are not available in my settings, but have turned off the ones mentioned.. My battery life has worsened considerably over this time, I went to bed last night with full charge & this morning it was down to around 50 % Hopefully with these changes battery life will improve..
Referring to the Compass Calibration entry, on my apple watch, the compass was going around in red circles until I turned this on. I just now turned it off and my watch compass dies again. I therefore am leaving it ON since I use the compass on my watch frequently. Thanks so much for this post, by the way...Great Job!
Recently my iphone disconnects with this phone has calling restrictions. I speak to the same person & after awhile it disconnects?? Where can I turn this feature off? Great videos like your channel.
Question: Is there a way to stop Iphone Health from accessing my contacts? I don't use it and all my settings are disabled. I have no Health data. Seems like it's a background app that could be compromised. At the very least, it's using battery to check my apps when I don't have any Emergency contacts listed.
I always have the location services turned off unless the app tells me to turn it on and then i turn it off after using the app, i wonder if i'm getting the best battery saving from doing this? I have an iPhone X with 87% capacity battery and it always lasts a full day on 4G connectivity, sometimes i don't even need to charge it during the night, just in the morning when i wake up.
Emergency services activates Uber and a Lyft to call emergency contacts also! I was walking not in any rideshsre oops accident.. a dispatcher calls then my Uber Lyft app opened and says calling my brother in another state now WHAT!and I couldn’t stop it I just shut my phone completely off
Some things will NEVER change, we have to give up personal rights just to have decent hardware anymore. Same thing, obviously, goes for Google/uTube. Thanks for this video. With enough patience and understanding you CAN go home mostly UNviolated (use a better browser and decentralized search engine to start with).
With “networking and wireless” turned off, both Google Maps and Apple Maps can’t find my position (iPhone 16 Pro). I turned them on, and both apps work again. Anyone with the same problem?
I kept switching all the kits or whatever off. Each update had to go switch off new ones. No idea what tbey were for, but caused no issue. Then last time there must have suddenly been o e I needed because was not able to use web browser on Safari lol. Thank you for this info.
I used to follow this channel exclusively but since it's dropped almost entirely off the radar , two VERY EXCELLENT alternatives are now used. So long!
Isn’t it recommended that you keep significant locations, location services and system customization on for optimized charging to work? Please correct me if I’m wrong because when i turned the significant locations off i stopped getting the notification for optimized charging
For optimized charging to work you need to have the "significant locations" be turned on. Or, you could just choose "80% limit" in charging optimization, that if 80% will get you through your day
Thank you so much for such a good informations. I have an iPhone 14 and I have a very big problem with my map and GPS because my GOS gets lost every 20 minutes when I am using maps and I did try everything you can name it and my wife also has the same issue. Do you have any idea about it?
Hi! Can you do one on androids?? I hate all these apps that have"permissiin" to basically scan me 24/7. Like Google Play Services etc. But if you disable, it says phone May not work right.
Hello and thank you for the update. I have a i7, still working with an iOS 15.8.1. I noticed that few features are missing compared to yours on the screen. I followed your advice. I'll see what happen next. Cheers.
Great, great video and very helpful. Apple turns on certain services by default and it's helpful to know whether they are useful and how to turn them off.
I have to say you guys have the best videos on information for iPhones Very professional and entertaining at the same time. Keep up the good work I look forward to other videos.
Thanks for the clear, detailed explanation. I'm curious whether this will have any positive effect on my SE 2020 (battery replaced recently, health 97%, less than average usage => 16-17 hours battery life).
Thanks very much David. I just upgraded to an iPhone 15 Plus so this video is extremely helpful. My phone didn't have the Cell Network Search you mentioned so I'm wondering if it's only an US based feature? Thanks again. Love your very helpful videos!
I turned lots of stuff off and then my txt messages and fb messenger wouldn't work 😂 took ages to work out which one to turn on again! Can't turn off workspace on my phone tho and it's quite old!!
The primary reason a good battery won't hold charge is that the Hard Drive indexing system has been damaged by charging the ipod via a computer USB port and then pulling it out but not ejecting it. Fix it by plugging it into a windows based computer without iTunes installed. Then after the driver is detected and installed the windows computer will say it detected a memory with a damaged filing system and asks if it should automatically attempt to repair it. Say yes. It will repair it. Check if you can see the files on the drive. Then EJECT the drive and wait for the message it can be safely removed. Then unplug it. It will charge and work correctly after that. DON'T UNPUG IT WITHOUT EJECTING THE IPOD AGAIN !
Wow, great stuff. I thought I'd hit all the setings for optimizing bat life but basically glossed over the location/system services entirely. It's crazy. I turned about five or six things off that were "requesting my location in the last 24 hours." My phone sat on a desk for the day because I was in the studio. Point being, I'd love to see just how much checking and pinging of servers Apple does even with a stationary phone.

I can only see the "recent records." Why is this & how do I view the past records??. Seems to me I used to be able to view them. TY
I just went to check my phone settings. Looks like I had already turned off Location Services, so I turned ALL of those things with one easy action. I'm good with that.😁😁😁
For Wi-Fi & Bluetooth, I'd say if you have an older iPhone it could have a noticeable difference turning them off but for newer iPhones you can leave them on. It shouldn't affect those phones as much! -Z
I have never turned Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or mobile data off. Does it affect the battery? I don’t know, I have no urge to check it by turning it off. It’s convenient to me to have it on all the time. When I leave home it switches to mobile data, when returning home it automatically connects to the router. Same with Bluetooth, whenever I need to connect my earbuds it just happens without flipping switches and buttons all the time. I don’t really care about the battery. You are the owner of the phone, not its slave.
I need some clarification in one of your videos you said, optimize battery should be turned off alone with system, customization and significant locations but at the same time in this video, you recommend system customization be turned on, and it works with battery optimization but doesn’t that mean we need to turn on system customizations in order for optimize battery to work please clarify
It’s crazy how you can pay $1200 plus another $50-$100 for service and these companies still shove ads down your throat. Imagine a phone without all of that and just a clean experience.
Thank you for explaining in detail Iphone System Services. This video gave me a clear understanding of how the features work and allow me to better managed my IPhone and Battery life. Kudos to you for helping soooooooooo many of us Navigate the IPhone System Services....
alerts and shortcuts auto is always turned off for me but it always shows a grey arrow, I must say that my emergency contacts and medical ID are not setup as I heard that setting may influence. Can you please asdvise why is that grey arrow always on? :(
I must have watched a similar video sometime in the past because I already had most of these turned off, however there were a couple of newbies, so thanks.
Not sure it's a good idea to turn off "Routing and Traffic." Unless I am misunderstanding its function, turning this on allows Apple to have the crowd sourced information it needs to know when there is, for example, an accident that is causing traffic to move at a snail's pace. When using Apple maps, Apple can then automatically provide you with potential alternate routing to avoid the congestion. The more folks leave this setting on, the better Apple Maps will be at providing the best user experience.
@@antoniolucarusso2638 I really wish he'd go back to the video and edit out the recommendation to turn this feature off. Having accurate traffic conditions is a really important piece of data for Apple Maps and his recommendation to turn "Routing and Traffic" off is a bad idea.
@@modarct Apple Maps has really improved over the last several years. And it integrates more seamlessly with the iPhone. I formerly used both Wyze and Google Maps. But found Apple Maps to now be impressively functional and simply more convenient as an iPhone user. You're also helping the greater good by keeping it on. And your GPS is on anyway when you use a navigation app, like Google Maps or Wayze.
Yep I have it turned on to assist my fellow drivers. Lots of times I see the road up ahead turn red or yellow. It’s helpful to know what’s going on and for how far/long. Let’s be of use to each other.
Thankyou... some of those more bizzare network related ones were still on my phone as as I actually thought they help with network issues. Switched off now. Have to say my next phone is not going to be an iphone, My current iPhone 13 pro is probably good for a few more years.
True dateline GPS won't work in the buildings but tower to tower to tower navigation working great . Satellite GPS is very good where are no cell towers at the sea . Wi-Fi interneto have short range and only safe if you have passwords or signal is inscribed, maybe even automatically ?.
Thank you for all your amazing tips. Yes I am constantly charging my phone. Two important questions I have: 1. What is your opinion about the app called Privacy Hawk? Supposedly, it is an app to help protect and remove your personal info companies have about. Before I download I wanted to check with my Gurus. 2. Okay, I am of the generation that did not grow up with computers. So, pretend your talking to your mom- LOL. I still have a 5 platter cd player, dual tape deck & receiver. I bought (2) blue tooth adapters so I can listen to Spotify or music I want to instead of the radio. Yep, I still listen to the radio and have a Bose CD-radio. What I extremely dislike is listening to music from my iPhone and or laptop. So, my question is - is there any way or what does one do to listen to Spotify without having my phone or laptop? That’s a huge battery drainer.
Guys , it’s not that deep. As he explains it, if it sounds important to you regardless of what he says, then just leave it on. Some I left on bc it seems important. He’s just sharing info. You don’t have to constantly challenge it. It’s your phone. Do what u want.

When I leave home it switches to mobile data, when returning home it automatically connects to the router. Same with Bluetooth, whenever I need to connect my earbuds it just happens without flipping switches and buttons all the time. I don’t really care about the battery. You are the owner of the phone, not its slave.
@@mrwoolly2no it doesn’t iPhone don’t work like that androids do
I need some clarification in one of your videos you said, optimize battery should be turned off alone with system, customization and significant locations but at the same time in this video, you recommend system customization be turned on, and it works with battery optimization but doesn’t that mean we need to turn on system customizations in order for optimize battery to work please clarify
You remind me of one of those spy kid robots after being turned good. This was your decided purpose. Thank you
It’s crazy how you can pay $1200 plus another $50-$100 for service and these companies still shove ads down your throat.
Hey, thanks for your great video. But I dont have the "cell network search" setting in my list ? any suggestions ?
Can you make a video of the device management
Always great updates for our iPhone 📱 thank you ✌🏽🇦🇺
Can you do a video on how to transfer photos to another device without having to download apps? 🙏
Have not finished watching the video and already wow me.
The BEST one of ALL the I-14+ videos we’ve watched so far.!!
alerts and shortcuts auto is always turned off for me but it always shows a grey arrow, I must say that my emergency contacts and medical ID are not setup as I heard that setting may influence. Can you please asdvise why is that grey arrow always on? :(
Good information! I keep my “location” OFF! I don’t desire any tracking!
Thank you. As someone new to the iPhone I found it quite useful.
I do agree with you. The more people turn on this function the more data Apple users will have about traffic.
@@antoniolucarusso2638 I really wish he'd go back to the video and edit out the recommendation to turn this feature off. Having accurate traffic conditions is a really important piece of data for Apple Maps and his recommendation to turn "Routing and Traffic" off is a bad idea.
It's a good idea if you don't use Apple maps for daily driving, I personally prefer Waze or Google maps.
Watch two of these guys vids and doubled my battery life.
I did turn off and let see what happened. I will come back and update the results because i am using iPhone for the first time. 😃
Thankyou... some of those more bizzare network related ones were still on my phone as as I actually thought they help with network issues. Switched off now. Have to say my next phone is not going to be an iphone, My current iPhone 13 pro is probably good for a few more years.
Thanks for the quick and very useful reminder of how to delete unwanted "stuff"
I don’t have Wi-Fi calling toggle on mine.
Is there a simple way to turn off the location services / GPS the way you can simply turn off Wifi and Bluetooth?
Oh my goodness. I guys were removed from my phone on RUclips. I can't believe I found you. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
Two important questions I have:
What?
Thanks, this would make my battery life last longer.
