This was my father, he worked until his hands bled, to make sure we all had food, clothes, and a place to live. No one went hungry on his watch, and he paid a terrible cost physically for it. It was the reason he left this life quicker than he deserved to. The line about hands working til they bled, just to keep us all fed, always makes me cry, when I hear this song. Very good song.
My Dad asked me to sing this at his funeral. I dont think I will get through it without crying hopefully he lives forever.
Another great song from an artist that sadly has passed haven't heard this in a long time RIP Holly
I didn’t know that! I’m so sad!
OMG had NO clue!
i didn't know that , do you know what happened
This song was my song for my father /daughter dance at my wedding. My dad just recently passed away in March and this song brought back memories of my dad. Today April 18 would have been his 80th Birthday. I haven’t heard this song in a long time but it is how I always thought of my dad. He worked hard to put food on the table and his hands were calloused but he would show his affection by squeezing my hand. I miss him so much. I will love you forever dad.
I like this song because of what it says about unconditional love. It started with our Lord and we see it extended from our fathers and grandfathers.
We played this song at my father's funeral. Brought tears to my eyes
Same. I picked this song for my Dad’s funeral. Haven’t heard it since…whew
My cousin played this song at her wedding for my uncle, her adopted father an Army infantry man. We never draw those invisible lines, but they give credit to the story for others. They both danced to this that wedding day. 🙂
FINALLY someone reacts to this amazing song! What a banger. Thanks, Tasha
Haven't heard this song for a long time! Sadly, Holly passed away from cancer about 5 years ago at age 59.
Thank you Tasha!!! I lost my daddy three years ago and this was our song. The words in this song were literally how my daddy was. I appreciate you and playing my song today on my birthday! ❤️❤️
My daddy was my stepfather. He chose to be my daddy when I was 7 1/2 years old. In March 2018 I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer and five months later I lost my daddy to colon cancer that has metastasize to his liver, lungs, bones and then brain. It was hard losing my parents in the same year, five months apart. We played this song at his funeral along with other songs that were important to our family. I so appreciate you playing this song on my birthday!
Happy birthday
@@Rodney87 Thank you!!!
Happy Birthday! I lost my dad in 2002 at age 62 and my mom in 2016. I couldn’t help but feel older then when my last parent was gone!
@@garyevans3421 I know the feeling! So sorry for your loss sweetie!
When I got married, my dad had been dealing with arthritis and was wheelchair bound and his hands were crippled up and deformed. We could not have the traditional dance so I had this song played. It had everyone crying. Thanks for the memory.
Just reading this made me cry. I miss my sweet Dad so much!
Dear God I love my Dad SO much. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do when he passes. Hopefully that's not for a long, long, LONG time! I was very lucky to have a loving father taking care of me growing up. My biggest wish is that today's children can all be blessed to have loving fathers in their lives.
This has always a hard one for me. We played this at my Dad's funeral. Still makes me cry EVERYTIME l hear it. It is so my Daddy😭😭😭
Thx! I thank God for these wonderful hands! -Terry
This song really makes me think of my Dad, every word.
Here are some other suggestions of great country songs from the 80s:
George Strait:
- "You're Something Special To Me"
- "Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her"
Ricky Skaggs:
- "Heartbroke"
- "You've Got a Lover"
Alabama:
- "You've Got the Touch"
- "Love in the First Degree"
Thank you. 🙂 Hadn't heard this version, but Dolly Parton also has a beautiful rendition of this song
Doesn't matter when or where I hear this song, it has me in tears.
wonderful song, I cry every time I hear it, it has been 13 years since my dad died.
When my Dad got cancer, in 2007, they said he had maybe 2 years. So he started making arrangements. He asked each of us to pick out a song to be played at his visitation. This is the song I chose. 14 yrs later and Dad's still kicking. Says he's too hard-headed to die.
Then, other times, he says the Good Lord isn't done with him yet.
This song hits so different as an adult. And even more different as a parent. “Daddy’s hands were hard as steel when I done wrong. Daddy’s hands weren’t always gentle but I’ve come to understand there was always love in daddy’s hands” even when my daddy’s hands weren’t gentle because he was spanking me when I done wrong there was still love in those hands teaching me wrong from right. Not everyone agrees with this discipline but I for one am thankful for it at 30.
Love this so much! ❤️
RIP Holly 🙌🏻🙏🏻🙌🏻
Met her in 1988 when I was stationed at Ft Hood, TX. Nice lady, she autographed my shirt collar. Still have that shirt hanging in my closet today.
I lost my father December 31st, 1989... I can't get through this song without crying! I love it!
This is my favorite song lov love love it
This is one of mine and my dad’s songs. I’ll need my tissues for this one. My dad passed away in 2018. I sure do miss him.
this song is something me and my 2 older sister learned as young kids for my daddy's birthday one year and we surprised him with it
very popular song back in the 80's. I remember most in my family loving this. I was only about 10yrs old when it came out, but remember hearing it a million times.
I lost my daddy to heart problems when I was 10 months old. I never knew him but I know just from what people have told me what a great man he was. When this song first came out I cried when I heard it. I'm 66 and I still can't listen to it without crying. 💖💖💖💖
Your always a positive person.🌹
Beautiful song. I always liked this one a lot. Love my Dad, he’s 90, but still going strong. We even just took up a new hobby together recently (going to the shooting range). We were good kids (I’m number 6 of 8) and rarely got spanked. But even when we did, my Dad’s heart wasn’t in it. He definitely had gentle hands. I had to fake that it hurt so it would seem like I’d been adequately punished lol. Now Mom on the other hand, when she would give us a little whack with the yard stick, that would sting a little bit. To make it worse, she would tell us to get it for her lol, “bring me the yard stick!” But even this was not THAT common. Grew up with lots of love, with parents who always put God and family above all else. Mom passed away a couple years ago, is with the Lord now.
My Dad was a great guy. A nice man who had no meanness in him but he ran a tight ship. If we boys got out of line, he whipped our behinds. I have no bad feelings bout it. I thank him for making sure I grew up a responsible man. It sucked at the time cause he was a big dude, but now I realize he hated disciplining us and I didn’t get half the ones I deserved
The thing about this song is that a lot of people grew up with not much extra money. I grew up that way, and lived it with my kids. In all honesty, we raised about 15 kids but only had 3. They always had friends over.
Such a beautiful song! I knew you were thinking about your granddaddy while listening to this. 😊😊😊
I have sang this song for my dad since I was a little girl. I had to record my version because my dad has asked that I would sing this when he dies. I know I wouldn't be able to do it when that time comes so having it recorded now I know his wish will happen.
this was a friend in high school's favorite song. It was played at her funeral
My mom's favorite song!!!!!
Tasha.....this is a great song and one you will like...."Wish You Were Here" by Mark Willis. Another great one by him is, "Don't Laugh At Me".
I have been watching y’all’s videos for a while, and haven’t ever commented on anyones RUclips before. But I wanted to say I enjoy y’all’s video reactions. With that said, This is the song that my daddy and I danced to on my wedding day. Even though my dad and mom are divorced, he was there to teach me right from wrong. And every word to this song expresses how I feel about my daddy. Thank you for sharing ❤️
My mom had this played at my grandfather's funeral. Has really hit me since then. Now that I'm helping out with my dad in his final days it hits me really hard
Hard to type with so many tears in my eyes.
First! Love this song and your reaction. Happy Birthday Tina!❤❤❤❤❤🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

In before "being blocked"
I’m so excited to see this. Such a beautiful song. I thought Holly was going to have a very long career.

Beautiful song....thank you Tasha
Happy birthday, Tina.
Thank you!!!
I haven't heard that in a long time, but what a great song.
Makes me think of my sweet Daddy who passed away in 2005. Your story made me think about the one and only time I ever saw Daddy get upset with me. I knew I messed up if Daddy thought I needed a spankin'! Not so with Mama. She always thought I needed one. Haha 😄 😄
I love this song, and as always, you look beautiful young lady! I always love your reactions! Thanks!!!
Happy anniversary to your revolution around the sun Tina! ♥

Love this song another great pick. Would love to see you react to Dottie West or Wynonna.
Love to see you guys react to “Alice in chains - nutshell” live version.
Bob Carlisle, Butterfly Kisses is a great song about a Daddy and his little girl.
Like you I was a good girl. I was hanging off my Daddy as much as I could. When he got home.from work I'd run across the front porch and jump and he always caught me. He never even threatened me with a spanking. Until I was 19. He put me on the ground and spanked my butt. Sent me to my room. I cried not because it hurt but because I had been disrespectful to my sweet Daddy. He came to my room and he was crying too. He told me he hated whipping me but no matter how old I got if I disrespected him again he'd whip me again. I had never been disrespectful before and never was again. I had the sweetest Daddy in the whole world. We were poor but never lacked love. I hate that we have to eventually be here without our parents. I miss mine more n more all the time. I'm 65 and a widow. Death is a thief.
You should listen to you can let go now daddy by crystal schwanda it’s a beautiful song
This is probably the song of hers that is most remembered. Oddly, not one of her two number one hits. Unfortunately, her career got derailed at its peak by a controversy over her song "Maybe I Mean Yes" that was understandable, but got a bit silly. Great talent and greatly missed.
I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention that this is the song my wife danced to with her dad at our wedding. Very meaningful for her.
Great song!
Check out, Live Like You Were Dying by Tim McGraw!
love you guys, glad I found you, do a reaction to Coffeys "Mr Red White and Blue"
OK this was over 2 years ago. Can you please react to something else? Holly had 4 Number 1's "Love Someone Like Me", "Only When I Love", "Are You Ever Gonna Love Me?, and "You Really Had Me Going". She should have had many more, but was basically Blacklisted from Country Radio before the end of 1991. Interestingly, none of her Number 1's would be my first choices for you to feature here. I'd prefer some Top 10's like "Why Wyoming", "Strangers Again", "It's Always Gonna Be Someday", "What You Love Does Too Me" There Goes My Heart Again" or her Duet's "Maybe" with Kenny Rogers, and "A Face In The Crowd" with Michael Martin Murphy which was huge Top 5 song in 1987. Or how about some lesser known stuff like "No One Takes The Train Anymore" that should have been a Number 1 hit? Some of my personal favorite songs of Holly's are "Lonesome Highway", "On The Wings of An Angel", "Just Across The Rio Grande", "There's No Heart So Strong", "Sometime Today", "The Stronger The Tie", "Old Love In New Mexico", "Temporary Loss Of Memory", "Let Go", I Laughed Until I Cried". Oh man, there are so many. I could go on and on.

Theres a new tom mac donald song called "America"
You guys should react to Tom Macdonald's song America
Awe that was my daughter and her Daddy
A woman showing appreciation and respect for a man? Isn't that illegal now-a-days?
Great song.
Beautiful song! Makes a good case for corporal punishment.
you should react to lorrie morgan something in red
you need to react to Butter fly Kisses
I’m like you Tasha my dad never hit me, he just had to give me that look.
*corb Lund - talkin veterinarian blues*
She described my dad perfectly! Worked himself to death to provide for his family.
No he didn't whoop you because you a good perfect angel. He didn't whoop you because you was his little princess don't fool yourself. Women don't understand the bond of a father or Grandfather and daughter. You can't understand it. And man would choke the life out of anyone or animal that threatened his daughter , watch the life drain from it's eyes and not bat an eye.
Her dad was a church of christ preacher
Video is a little bit out of sync in your feed. Holly was one of my favorite artists and she is largely forgotten. I hope to see that change. Really want her to be rediscovered by a new generation. She had many great songs, and many others great songs that were never released as singles.
Ovarian cancer took her way too young 🙏
Happy Birthday Tina!!!!
Thank you!!!
