      @@tarasnead7374 my grandfather passed around 91 or 92. We had a family friend, who used to sing the national anthem at the Astro games back then, sing at the funeral. He sang a couple songs, but he couldn't sing this one. Everything was fine till the song started. I heard my little brother start crying. Literally within a few moments there wasn't a single dry eye in the building.

    You’re making me cry. I lost my dad January 2nd 2019. I love this song. I know it was originally recorded by Holly Dunn but I was fortunate enough to be able to sing it to my dad. One thing I remember most about my dad was his hands. They were rough and calloused from working all day recapping tractor trailer tires. His callouses were so thick sometimes, if he mashed his thumb, it would split open. Daddy just wrapped tape around it and kept on working. He couldn’t afford to take the time off from work. Not with 4 kids and a wife at home.

    • @amandapatch7496
      @amandapatch7496 4 года назад +5

      Your Dad sounds much like mine was. He was a diesel mechanic with the hard calloused hands that are the trademark of hard working men. He too would just wrap up an injury and keep going to keep us all fed.
      I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm praying for you.

I said Thank you, took the picture and shook her hand. So blessed to have met her. RIP Miss Holly

    My dad died in 2006. He loved going to karaoke bars and watching people sing. When he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, I got the nerve to go up and sing. I sang this to him. He denied it but mom and I both saw a tear in his eye. That was the first time I saw him cry. The only other time was on his deathbed when I told him I loved him and will always remember how much he loved me.

    I love this song but don't like listening to it. It reminds me of my dad who passed away 24 years ago. The part we didn't have much reminds me during the Christmas after my mom passed away. All my dad could afford for Christmas was stockings with an orange and a Hot Wheel car in it. To me that was the best Christmas ever as my dad had tears in his eyes because that was all he could afford.

    There was a beautiful display of photos in a nursing home my church used to go Christmas caroling in. They were pictures of each of the residents' hands with typed stories in the frames telling the name of the person and what those hands had done over the years, from farming to sewing to teaching to surgery to raising children... Just an absolutely beautiful display of artistic black and white photography and human stories.

    This was one of my grandmother's favorite songs. When she passed away I tried so hard to find a recording of this to play at her funeral but couldn't find one I could download. After we burried her I got in my car to drive home and when I started it the very first notes of this song began to play. I sat in my car bawling long after it finished.... I'd only ever heard it on the radio a handful of times in my life and even then it was usually because she'd ask me to call it in. I wanted so badly to play it for her that day... instead I believe she played it for me.

    Wow - I remember this song from back in the day. But if you’d asked me who sang it, I would have guessed Dolly Parton. I don’t really remember Holly Dunn by name... but this is a wonderful song. I’m so happy you reacted to this and brought it back into my consciousness again! And once again... great reaction by you.

    Old country always told a story that people can relate too. It could transport you to a different place and time and thats why I like it. Some reaction ideas...The story of Pat Summit ( womens basketball coach for the university of tn) or go way back and do keg in the closet by Kenny Chesney.
