I lost my biological father when I was 19 months old, but my stepfather was/is the best father that he didn't have to be. When my mother married him, my grandmother placed an advertisement in our local newspaper that said any boy can be a father, but it takes a real man to be a dad.

    Along these lines, I'll recommend
Brad Paisley's He didn't have to be.
A song from the perspective of a young child in a single parent home. I married into a 4 year old son. He had his mom wrapped around his little finger. I was the outsider. One of the best moments in my life was when as an adult this song came on the radio in my car, MY son said "Dad it's almost like he wrote this song about you!! Thank you for choosing to be my dad" He's 34 now, he told me straight up I was the toughest man he knew. I asked why? He told me honestly I don't think I could take on and raise someone else's child. His little brother just got married this year and is expecting his first child in January. My boys are doing alright.

This has always been the song to break me. I sang it in a pageant when I was in the 5th grade and it hits so close to home. My dad was my hero, my best friend and role model. Having Autism, adhd and being deaf to an extent in the 90s as a girl was hard. I had 7 years of speech therapy and even they gave up and said this is the best you will talk. He was the only one who even tried to understand me. He would record everything I said and when I was asleep or at school he would learn how to speak and understand my weird way of talking as a kid until I was able to converse easily with some. Hell we still after talked in my made up language afterwards to mess with people or relay information if a threat was around. I was his side kick and he was my best friend. He passed when I was 17 and after 19 years it does not get any easier. Strongest work ethic ever I had seen, he still worked with massive holes in his legs, cooked, cleaned and the most loving man a person could have the honor to know.

As much as I love Holly and want to see many more of her songs reacted too, have you ever reacted to a Lari White song before, or Kelly Willis? With Lari, start with her duet she wrote with Travis Tritt "Helping Me Get Over You". Where Kelly goes I would start with "I Don't Want To Love You" and The Heart That Love Forgot" both have videos on RUclips. Both have so many great songs.

I know when I get to heaven, Grandpa will be waiting with 2 fishing poles, and already know all the good spots to fish

When my Dad was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, he wanted everything planned, so we wouldn't have to do anything. He asked each of us to pick a song to be played. This is the song I picked. But Dad's STILL HERE. Sometimes he says he's too ornery to die, or he's just not ready. Now he says The Good Lord isn't done with him yet.
He has gone through 4 types of cancer, and kicks it everytime.

Yeah, this song makes me think of my own father, a Marine who served in Korea. He worked hard for us, but more than that, he was emotionally available to us, something that was rare in fathers of that era. He would love on us, hug us and kiss us and laugh with us. But if you broke one of his rules (which you knew ahead of time), God help you! You were in for it. He was strict, but fair and taught me and my sisters and brother about our loving Heavenly Father. He told us that a father disciplines his children if he loves them (Proverbs 13:24). I lost him and my mother three months apart. They were completely devoted to each other and I believe they are together again in Heaven! Thank you for all your support for our veterans

I lost my father when I was 23 and we had many unresolved issues however after years of reflection I do believe he was doing the best he could according with the way he was raised.
Those of you out there who are both parents and children please cherish every moment spent together.
Parents are there to guide us and put us on the right path and I am betting that as we get older 99% of us realize later in our lives that even though we knew everything as teens and young adults looking back we were pretty stupid and naive at the time.
As they say as the child grows into an adult the intelligence of that child’s parents increase twenty fold…….

I recorded this song for my dad at a recording studio when I was 16.
When I was in my 40’s my dad had a stroke, followed by a massive seizure and then went into a coma for 13 hours.
I am a retired nurse and they let me sit in ICU with my dad. The nurse had warned me that if he started to fail I would have to get out.
My dad started to fail fast and the nurse was on the phone with the cardiologist. They kept pushing more meds and nothing was working.
I laid my head softly on his chest close to his neck and started singing this song to him softly. Suddenly he sat up out of a coma and said I have to pee. The nurse ran back in and said omg, WTH.
Anyway, my dad made it, but didn’t know who I was for the first 4 1/2 days. We are super close. He had survived 3 heart attacks prior to the stroke and one of them happened on the pool deck as we were visiting. He coded and I had to preform CPR on him.
Anyway, I think hearing the song made him fight to come back. Knowing how much he is loved by me and my entire family.
Beautiful song, great feedback sir. Thank you.❤

OK this was a couple years ago. Can you please react to something else? Holly had 4 Number 1's "Love Someone Like Me", "Only When I Love", "Are You Ever Gonna Love Me?, and "You Really Had Me Going". She should have had many more, but was basically Blacklisted from Country Radio before the end of 1991. Interestingly, none of her Number 1's would be my first choices for you to feature here. I'd prefer some Top 10's like "Why Wyoming", "Strangers Again", "It's Always Gonna Be Someday", "What You Love Does Too Me" There Goes My Heart Again" or her Duet's "Maybe" with Kenny Rogers, and "A Face In The Crowd" with Michael Martin Murphy which was huge Top 5 song in 1987. Or how about some lesser known stuff like "No One Takes The Train Anymore" that should have been a Number 1 hit? Some of my personal favorite songs of Holly's are "Lonesome Highway", "On The Wings of An Angel", "Just Across The Rio Grande", "There's No Heart So Strong", "Sometime Today", "The Stronger The Tie", "Old Love In New Mexico", "Temporary Loss Of Memory", "Let Go", I Laughed Until I Cried". Oh man, there are so many. I could go on and on.
