- Metal / rock fans first time reaction to Holly Dunn's "Daddy's Hands" while checking out some Clyde Mays Alabama Style
And I just started to 😢 cry. I drove back up to Indiana when my dad was dying this song was playing when I rolled into Terre Haute, it's hard to drive when your mascara isn't water proof and you're crying like a baby. This was, is still a great song.
Thanks for the well wishes guys. Much appreciated. :)
Sorry my song request made you cry
@@stevebournite184 Good tears hun.
Holly never got the recognition she deserved here in the states. She was a super star in England.
I can picture my dad's hands. Very tough hands. Built our house, chopped wood, worked on our cars, gardening, fixing everything. He had 4 girls no boys. He would work in Conn Monday to Fri. Drive 3 hrs. Get home at 3 am. Be up at 8 and doing everything he had to at our house. He would leave again after 8am on Monday to go back to Conn. But still made time to play with us. Riding sleds, taking us for ice cream, and going to games we played when he could. I will never forget how his hands looked.
My grandparents had a place in rural GA and my Grandfather was my Daddy in many ways. Music like this can't be found today and that is a shame. I immediately went back to the days of Saturdays spent picking in the garden, driving the tractor at 12 years old in the bottoms to plant corn, having a pet cow and using a tire inner tube to swim in the pond. I wouldn't change a thing about how I grew up and this song is the epitome of a loving daddy. Thank you Keith and Dustin.
Where in rural Georgia? I’m in rural Georgia
@@reneeholcomb205 I am 11 miles from AL.
@@hollyp6395 , oh ok. I’m in Northeast Georgia
There is still good music out there. Listen to Ashley McBride’s A Bible and a 44. It hits you in the heart for sure. There’s a live video on stage with Eric Church that’s so beautiful.
Holly is one of the most underrated female artists in country history.
Agreed
This is my song for my daddy. My daddy chose to be my daddy when I was 7 1/2 years old. In March 2018 my mother passed away from end stage pancreatic cancer. My sweet daddy passed away five months later from colon cancer which metastasized to his liver, lungs, bones and brain. Two weeks before my dad passed away, I took pictures of my hands on my daddy’s hands. My daddy worked two and three jobs to keep his family fed and taken care of. This was one of the songs that we played at his funeral. Music has a way of saying things that we ourselves may not be able to put into words. Thank you for your reaction!
RIP John McGee (My Daddy)
She passed in 2016 from cancer. She was born in San Antonio Texas. She was born to a christian family. However, she was married to a a beautiful lady named Melissa Taylor.
When this song first came out, my father was still alive, but now that I'm older and my father has been gone for a number of years, it really hit me in the feels. Thanks for the memories!😊😊😊
I always liked this song, my daughter loved it. She choose this song for the Father-Daughter dance at her wedding. Thanks for the song. 🎼🦋🎵🌸🎶
I always loved this song❤️❤️❤️ It's as if she was singing about my dad, he was 50 when I was born and passed away when I was 34 and played it his funeral 😥😥😥😥
Y'all should do some Steve Wariner. He was very underrated. His song holes in the floor of heaven is beautiful. We played at my husband's funeral 18 years ago. Our children still listen to it on his anniversary.
Yes please
I second holes in the floor of heaven
Holes in the floor of heaven and "two teardrops "
@@lefty3141591 I didn't know that Steve Wariner is who did Two Teardrops! Also an amazing song that will hit in the feels!!
@@lefty3141591 yes!! I love all of his songs. These two are in my top 5. Some fools never learn is also a fav. Small town girl is good too. The weekend.
This is such a beautiful song that most everyone, especially daughters, can relate to. As a child it was horrible for be to be disciplined by my dad. It just broke my little heart when he got on to me. It didn't happen but a couple of times, because I remembered what it felt like and avoided it at all costs again. I'm my dad's only girl and he doted on me and still does to this day. But I'm ever so thankful for the way I was raised, actions have consequences sometimes not good ones!!! Thanks for the song, one of my favorites and always brings a tear to my eye.
Definitely a song to get you in the feels. - Keith
This song I'm certain will hit me hard. My Daddy was my best friend and I had this played at his funeral. I miss him terribly. Still, thanks for this one guys.
I know, late to the party, but, I had to mention that my sisters played this song at Dad's funeral in 2007. Many tears were shed.
One of the songs I love. This video seemed a little off to me, whoever did the video may have not downloaded the music and played it somehow off her original video, distorted? I get the same feeling with Kathy Mattea's 18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses. I'm lucky, I still have my father, he's 90.
This song was played at my dads funeral when I was 15. I love this song because it is my dad to a T. He took a weekend full time shift at work (Fri-Sun, 40 hours) because my parents couldn’t afford daycare and my mom worked Mon-Fri. Then Mon-Fri while my mom was at work and me and my brother were at school he would be working on our 5.5 acres. Taking care of chickens, ducks, horses, the garden, building fences, etc. I knew I had an amazing father, but I wish I didn’t take for granted that he was always there.
Almost everyone takes that for granted most of the time. - Keith
This is one of my songs to my Dad. We were very close. He passed away in 2018. I miss him every day. Life has not been the same without him, nor will it ever be. I love you, daddy.
Sorry for your loss, Denise. - Keith
@@BourbonCountryReacts Thank you.
This was played in our church every fathers day when I was growing up. It may even still be sang in that church now. It is also played at a lot of fathers' funerals that I have been to.
Have always loved this song. Holly wrote this song to her Dad for Fathers Day. I think it was her 1st #1 hit. Her Dad was a Preacher. She wrote a lot of songs with her brother. He came to Nashville 1st & then later Holly moved to Nashville. He also played in her band. Holly Dunns idol was Roy Rogers.
Heck of a father's day gift! - Keith
RIP Holly Dunn ..when I grew up here in rural Ohio my Dad worked in sewer pipe plants. He worked in the kilns but mostly loaded sewer pipes that were shipped everywhere...his hands and his back had to hurt every day...he would come home from a midnight shift and work in the garden, bale hay, feed the live stock fix the fences, fix the tractor, car , and lawn mower, he cut wood , hunted and fished and I never once heard my Daddy complain even though his hands was often stained with dirt and grease and cut up and bloody...my Dad was the best person I ever knew..I cry every time I hear this song...there is a song called Daddy never was the Cadillac kind that makes me think of growing up even though its written from a sons perspective there are things in the song that hit home
Travis Tritt - Anymore (from live and kickin') live performance, just him and his guitar. Another great artist not recognized like he should have been. The video is good too, he plays a disabled vet and employed actual vets in the video. The live with dedication to veterans -Tillys table is worth watching on your own as it has a 7 min intro in the beginning regarding vets.
My dad and I danced to this song at my wedding. Beautiful song.
Seems like a great choice! - Keith
Another great woman in county music who sadly no longer with us this was her biggest hit
This song song was played at my granddaddy funeral, he was my adopted father. At my request when I was 21. It said everything about him. He was the greatest man I ever knew. He was also a WWII Vet. RIP William David Weiass.
Wow. - Keith
So happy you guys are doing this……I love this song!🥰
Good one guys. I think any country girl can remember Daddy's hands. Hence it worked hard for a living but always had the time to Pat a child on the back and say well done. I kind of doubt the peaches or the green apples in that particular bottle gentleman. Have a lovely weekend.
I sang this at my Dad’s funeral, pre-recorded from when I sang it on Father’s Day way before he passed at church.
Wow. That'd make this song quite meaningful to you, obviously. - Keith
We played thus at my husband funeral. He liked Holly Dunn.
Holly Dunn another OG growing up my mom forced her music on me but I’m glad she did holly’s got beautiful voice.
Yes she has a beautiful voice
This song is a love letter to my maternal and paternal grandfathers and my maternal great-grandfather. Amazing men. For that reason, I love this song and enjoy it.
But to all those who hate this song because it reminds them of how not gentle, not kind, and/or abusive their father was/is.... I know how you feel too. This song will never describe my father and if I listen to it with him in mind, then I don’t enjoy the song at all.
Yeah, that flipside will apply to a lot of people too. - Keith
My Mother and Father married at 15 and 17, my Dad had a day job but in the evenings he worked in the garage fixing cars for extra money so we always had what we needed and a little of what we wanted, he's a millionaire now, he had little to no education. This is my song to him, he is still with us and misses my mother everyday.
I've known some self-made men like that in my day. Always respected them. - Keith
I'm from a family of 10 siblings and this song so reminded me of my dad who worked jobs until he was 80. Had to play it at his funeral
I LOVE this song!
Agree
@@stevebournite184 takes me back to days with my Grandfather in rural GA. I'm going to listen to this more than once.

I always enjoy your guys reactions. George Jones who going to feel their shoes is a really good song.
I think that might be my favorite George Jones songs
My Dad was a teacher for over 30 years, and as we know teachers are not well paid, so in his summers off from teaching he worked as a Lake Patrolman at a State park. The only vacations we really ever took were to visit my Mother's people in Buchanan, West Virginia to my Great Aunt and Uncle 's small farm. At 70 years old now I can still remember all the family sitting around after supper singing and playing their guitars. The best times of my childhood. Thanks for the story Keith, brought back such great memories. Great reaction also as always. You two are so much fun to watch and listen to.
Thank you, and thanks for watching! - Keith
Love Holly Dunn, can't stand this song. There are very few, like less than 3, songs I will shut off when it comes on. This is one of them.
Not all dads had love in their hands. You who have/had loving dads, count your blessings.
Sorry to hear this all daddies should love there children
Great song, awesome reaction. Just an honest heat felt song.
Thanks, and agreed on the song. - Keith
This song never fails to remind me of my dad. I had great parents who were both nurturer and disciplinarian.
As it should be. - Keith
Not that this song is written for today, but it still resonates. This song is a memory to a number of us, a prayer to those who didn't have daddy's hands like this.
I think it always will resonate for a lot of people. - Keith
Great reaction, thank you for sharing your memories.
I chuckle every time I think about that. - Keith
She is incredibly underrated in my opinion. I got to see her live when she was opening for Merle Haggard.
That had to be a great show. - Keith
I didn't have a relationship with my real daddy. But I had a wonderful fantastic step father. He was my father figure
It's a beautiful classic just like a lot of other beautiful songs hits too close to home IDK I like it ❤️🌎✌️
I think this one hits home for a lot of folks. - Keith

I DANCED W. MY DAD AT MY WEDDING TO THIS
OK you two. This was some 2 years ago. Can you please react to something else? Holly had 4 Number 1's "Love Someone Like Me", "Only When I Love", "Are You Ever Gonna Love Me?, and "You Really Had Me Going". She should have had many more, but was basically Blacklisted from Country Radio before the end of 1991. Interestingly, none of her Number 1's would be my first choices for you to feature here. I'd prefer some Top 10's like "Why Wyoming", "Strangers Again", "It's Always Gonna Be Someday", "What You Love Does Too Me" There Goes My Heart Again" or her Duet's "Maybe" with Kenny Rogers, and "A Face In The Crowd" with Michael Martin Murphy which was huge Top 5 song in 1987. Or how about some lesser-known stuff like "No One Takes The Train Anymore" that should have been a Number 1 hit? Some of my personal favorite songs of Holly's are "Lonesome Highway", "On The Wings of An Angel", "Just Across The Rio Grande", "There's No Heart So Strong", "Sometime Today", "The Stronger The Tie", "Old Love In New Mexico", "Temporary Loss Of Memory", "Let Go", I Laughed Until I Cried". Oh man, there are so many. I could go on and on. Holly was nominated for 3 Grammy Awards.

I have sang this song since I was little and I'm pretty sure that is a cover. It was a good cover or possibly another recording of Holly and not the studio release

I'm not sure this was Holly Dunn. It definitely wasn't her original recording of the song.
Agreed. It doesn't sound like her. I think it's a karaoke cover.

My Daddy didn't whip me, his 5th child, until I was 19 n I thought I was big enough to sass him. Nope. Never big enough to sass Daddy. He was my sweet Daddy and I could never stand him looking disappointed in me.
