I was 25 years old when my Daddy died at 65 years old. I cry everytime I hear this song. It's so of my Daddy.
How appropriate RUclips gave me this song on Christmas day, his favorite holiday. Another great Holly Dunn song is Why Wyoming.
This song hits home with me. The lines, "You could read quite a story, in the callouses and lines, years of work and worry had left their mark behind,: "I remember Daddy's hands, working till they bled, sacrificed them selfishly to keep us all fed," are my father to a tee. He worked hard to make our lives better, and it took a toll. It cost him about 10 years at the end of his life.
Holly Dunn was an amazing artist. I loved her so much. Great song writer, incredible singer, very beautiful. I was so in love with her. Never got the recognition that she justly deserved. She had gold albums and at least couple number 1 songs, I think 3 all told on the different charting services, including one on Billboard in "You Really Had Me Going" in 1990.Unfortunately, a series of strange events held her down. For instance, she got dropped from her record label after a controversy over her song. "Maybe I Mean Yes" which was quickly blowing up the charts. She graciously pulled the song from circulation because of ridiculous complaints that it could lead to Date Rape and her career was never the same after that. Her next album "Getting It Dunn" was fantastic, filled with awesome songs that were never released that could have made her that much bigger, but was snubbed by Country radio in spite of rave reviews. Then there were scathing the rumors that she was a lesbian and that pretty much doomed her career at the point. She did become a very successful producer and wrote hits for other people.
R. I. P. Holly, beautiful song. You were gone to soon
We all love our dads
Fun fact she came to Detroit and was on the air for abt a year here in Detroit. This songs is super special to me as i lost my daddy at the age of 13.
my daughter made a video about me wiyh this song as her tribute love it lots
Beautiful Song Daddy's Hands
The man in the vid with Holly is her brother Chris Waters. RIP Holly. With your dad again!
That is one of my all time favorite songs. Something about being a son of the south my father will always be Daddy to me. This song always reminds me of Daddy. He's been gone over a decade and I still miss him. Now I gotta go listen to some gentleman Jim Reeves in honor of him.
It doesn't take all that much of a man to be a father, it does take a real special man to be a Daddy.
any fool can make a baby, it takes a man to raise a child
amen
Oh honey you are so right. It takes a special person with a big heart full of love to be a daddy. There are a lot of men out there that are so called stepfathers, BUT in reality THEY are DADDY !!!!!!! Sometimes for whatever reason the biological father is it in the picture or not around and these wonderful men that are the so-called step daddies are the 100% DADDY'S. Really and truly thank God for these wonderful big-hearted great MEN stepping up to the bat.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 City much love and hugs to all Daddy's by blood and those who aren't blood but love their adopted families like they were their own. 💞💋💖😘😘🖤🤍🤎💛❤️❤️❤️
LISTEN TO THE "THE JUDDS" A SONG CALLED "GRANDPA".
Yes I recommend that one also
She's embraced in Daddy's hands now. Lost to the world today..FATHER FIGURE!
One of my favorite things about watching your channel is that you are new enough to country music there are soooo many great, classic, older songs and artists that are "new to you". Your reactions give me a renewed appreciation for these songs. 🧡
Hear this song a lot at funerals.
Great song! This describes my Father so well! He had a fourth grade education, the hardest working and most loving and caring man I've ever known. A man of absolute integrity and impeccable character. He taught me everything I know about being a real man. I've often wondered why God chose to bless me with the greatest father in the world!
How beautiful.
This is one of my all time favorite songs. It's too early to be ugly crying lol. This song reminds me of my late PawPaw Shepherd 😭.
Hey Don! There was a country singer that never really got a lot of recognition. He was from DelRio Tx. His name was Mundo Earwood. His songs "Sometimes Love" and "Angeline" are my most favorite songs in the world! I'm an old lady born and raised in Texas❤. Please and Thank you for the music!
My Daddy passed away on June 5th of this year do to Covid 19. I did'nt always be the little girl he hoped I would be. I was a mom at 19 and he told me he knew I was pregnant but he still loved me. I eventually went on to have four children in all. Depsite the fact I loved them I placed them all up for adoption. My daddy tried to warn me about life but I thought I knew it all.Daddy I'm so sorry I didn't get to say good bye to you one last time. I'm sorry I ever hurt you. You did pat me on the back when I did do things right. But you also had hands of steel when I did wrong. Daddy I will always love you.
Anthor song about a real special man is "18 wheels and a dozen roses" by Kathy Mattea
Thanks for the kind words Don, as always we appreciate you :) great reaction as always. I’ve always loved this song
I remember when this song came out. Makes me think of how lucky I was and what needed to live up to with my kids.
Has always been a favorite of mine. I hope it brings my 3 children to tears one day.
Was always a fan of Holly Dunn, was shocked the day I heard she passed away and so young, my goodness we never know when it's our time but seemed to early for her!! Thanks for sharing and as always you know "Howdy from Texas "😃
Sorry y’all are just finding out about Holly Dunn. I’ve followed her since late 80’s/early’90s. Tremendous writer/performer. Wrote with her brother Chris Waters. Should dig into her her music & hear her variety.
I've always loved this song!!! Always reminds me of my dad!!!
To early for tears . I never had a Daddy I am 61 and will never know how she felt but some times I wish I could like now .Take care Don be safe
Beautiful song. Hands. Johnny Cash These Hard Working Hands. Hazel Dickens' very country Mama's Hands.
Had never heard of holly Dunn thanks enjoyed
I love this song. I use to sing it to my dad on karaoke before he passed away. I think you should check out I breathe in, I breathe out by Chris Cagle .
Such a beautiful song and Beautiful voice, Holly was taken from us far too soon..
If this song doesn't grab you. There's something wrong with you. Holly was so under appreciated in the United States. She did have a great career in England
Thank you for the good tears this morning! Miss my papa. He was my rock star!
This song describes my Daddy to a T. We had it played at his funeral. It always choked me up before he passed away, but I can't hardly listen to it now.It is a beautiful song.
This is a beautiful but sad and poignant song tribute from a daughter to her father. Holly left this world much too soon but has left us with an impressive legacy which will make you realize what a great talent she was. Thanks for your appreciative and sensitive reaction Don, it was spot on. Keep rockin' that country.
I remember this being big at the time.
it's always been a great song!
This is one of the best fatherly tributes I've ever heard in country music, right up there with Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind by Confederate Railroad and Love Without End by George Strait. Another good one is Lessons Learned by Tracy Lawrence, might be a good one to check out if you haven't already.
That's My Job by Conway Twitty is another good one.
I love this song. It's one of my all time favorite songs. I grew up without a father so hearing songs like these make me wanna cry because it makes me think of the things I missed not having a father. She has such an amazing voice. I actually just heard the song yesterday in a top 30's count down on sirius xm.
I saw someone recommend grandpa by the Judd's thats a similar type song filled with love to grandpa . That truly is one my favorites it ranks right up there with this one .
Thank you Don. We enjoy your reactions and support what you do! We also have an internet radio station so people can find great music, old and new. It is on the Live 365 app, search for Small Batch Radio and that’s us! Much love brother.
This is one of those songs I've sung in backyards with my church youth group some years ago, but never knew where it actually came from.
long time since heard this morning Don enjoy the fawns HAKAD
dan sigurdson May I ask what HAKAD means?
@@shaanp9796 Have A Kick Ass Day see my other ch( Church of HAKAD) tell how it started HAKAD
Play this every year on the anniversary of my dad's passing
Never got into Holly's 80's stuff...always sounded too Marie Osmond-like (cheesy) for my taste. But in the early nineties, she had a big hit that I really liked, "You Really had Me Going"...very uptempo with a Dwight Yoakam feel to it. She seemed to disappear after that and I always wondered what happened. Some say she got pushed out of the industry after her "date-rape" song (can't remember the actual name) was blocked by most Country stations. The song wasn't bad but this was during the start of the whole "no means no" campaign.
The song was called When I Say No, I Mean Maybe( But Maybe I Mean yes) and it was not a date rape song. In fact until some idiot came up with this stupid idea, it was Holly's fastest raising song on the charts.
@@billw7250 Thanks for jogging my memory...gotta love PC culture! Reminds me of the x-mas song last year or so that everyone was up in arms about (again, I can't recall the name)
@@davidemswiler4351 Baby it's Cold Outside.
@@billw7250 Thanks...your recall is second to none!
Listen to Dolly Parton's Where Beauty Lives in Memnory!
Nick shoulders. Snakes and waterfalls
Please do house fire by Tyler Childers, great song
Ive got one for you. Try Emmylou Harris “To Daddy”.
older and weepy i hear that
Little jimmey dickens out behind the barn From elk hunter
Sorry: Where Beauty Lives in Memory
Please react to Trisha Yearwood's "the Dreaming Fields". I find it to be the most perfect song ever written, and I would love for more people to hear it.
It's not the most traditional song, but the writing is exquisite.
I would like to see your reaction to I'll Never Smoke Weed with Willie Again by Toby Keith
You should look at Reba Mcentire the greatest man I never knew. It’s kind of the opposite of this.
OK this was 3 years ago and the only other Holly Dunn song you have reacted to is "Why Wyoming" so far. Can we please react to something else? Holly had 4 Number 1's "Love Someone Like Me", "Only When I Love", "Are You Ever Gonna Love Me?, and "You Really Had Me Going". She should have had many more, but was basically Blacklisted from Country Radio before the end of 1991. Interestingly, none of her Number 1's would be my first choices for you to feature here. I'd prefer some Top 10's like "Strangers Again", "It's Always Gonna Be Someday", "What You Love Does Too Me". "There Goes My Heart Again" or her Duet's "Maybe" with Kenny Rogers, and "A Face In The Crowd" with Michael Martin Murphy. Or how about some lesser known songs like "No One Takes The Train Anymore" that should have been a Number 1 hit? Some of my personal favorite songs of Holly's are "Lonesome Highway", "On The Wings of An Angel", "Just Across The Rio Grande", "There's No Heart So Strong", "Sometime Today", "The Stronger The Tie", "Temporary Loss Of Memory", "Let Go", I Laughed Until I Cried". Oh man, there are so many. I could go on and on.
@jeffreyk5734 Well, as timing has it...
@@RockN2Country Thanks so much. Like I said in the other post "When No Place Is Home" is probably the last song of hers that I would have expected you to react too. I love the song, but it is so brutally sad and even shocking to some extent. Almost too painful to listen too. Holly was a brilliant song writer. She won the BMI song writer of the year award in I think 1989. You should consider reacting to the Ronnie McDowell song called "Peaches" if you like Tear-Jerkers with real substance. That song will definitely get to you.
