      François Desmarquis Your correct.. I don't like the ruff hard road suspension in the Wrangler. Plus getting in and out is for runt type guys. I bought Jeep (an d the Patriot 2015) because of the looks and looks, I guess. Hard to pull a boat with spare tire mounted in the rear, unless your a truck driver who can turn on 90 degree angles etc.

    If you afraid of scratching the paint don't go off-road and that didn't mean the truck is not capable of off roading

  • @bikesbeardsbeers94

    They are both designed for different varieties of off road driving. Apples to oranges... The Jeep is great for slow crawling and articulation in rocky situations, and the Raptor is a nice straight from the dealer to the high speed desert racing world. Both ultimately end up being mall crawlers unfortunately though.
    The best off road vehicle however is one that you can actually scratch up and just get on, and you will never get the perfect one direct from a dealer. The best ones IMO are built, not bought.

      christopher.unruh unless your a rich fuck lol, my buddies parents has a raptor, and they aint worried about damaging it because his dad is like a fucking genus when it comes to repairing anything on vehicles, and they literally have money coming out their ass lol, must be nice lol, but I do agree with you thou, because like i used to own a 98 ram that i built from stock to be an offroad worthy truck, and i would just beat down some trails, now i have a 2012 and yeah i still like offroading/muddin in it but i do baby it more then i did my 98, and yeah im kinda getting tired of people comparing trail vehicles to the raptor, the raptor is too wide for trail driving, but it has all that power, its wide and powerful because its suppose to be a desert truck, Ram Power Wagon, Ram Rebel, Jeep Wranglers, Toyota Tundra/Tacoma TRD Pro, those are all trail trucks, compare those, the only ones you can really compare fairly to the raptor in the desert is the old ramrunner, and maybe the chevy silverado reaper, but idk about the reaper its a supercharged 5.3L and yeah its sitting on 33" but the one i saw at the car show had stock suspension except for a level kit that black widow installed

    • @TheAmericanUhate
      @TheAmericanUhate 8 лет назад +10

      Hunt Guy You're the one that said "IF i had" which automatically implies that you don't have. Also, Diesel's suck ass in mud, they are to heavy, to slow, no wheel speed to keep the tread clean, and never considered a good mud truck by anyone that knows what they're talking about. Another thing, most off-roaders prefer automatics, not stick shifts. I never said what they did was hard core, but I know a 2 wheel drive stick shift diesel wouldn't have made it back up the hill with out a winch. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about so stop pretending you do.

  • @HandgripsRaise
    @HandgripsRaise 9 лет назад +88

    Ultimate off-road challenge? That was the weakest "trail" ever. Most of that was dirt roads. Then complaining of mud on your truck. Wow. It's what I imagine a city-slicker hipster acting like when they try to "rough it." A dirt road with a little puddle and the biggest worry being "oh please don't scratch my paint." Seriously, this was embarrassing.

      HandgripsRaise Tell you what, go out and buy a $40,000+ Raptor and a $40,000+ Rubicon and you can go bash them offroading to your undersized brain's content, then you can come back here with the videos to show the whole world and THEN you will have earned the right to talk shit.

    • @Dwealdric
      @Dwealdric 9 лет назад +5

      Daniel Bell Personally I somewhat agree with him, and I have the receipt for my $45k Rubicon. I also have pin stripes all over it, a tweaked front bumper, and skid plates that are... doing their job to say the least. I have blown up a power steering pump while stuck in the mud, had it poured on with no top or doors (actually cleaned the interior pretty well after a day of being out off roading). I understand where Roman and Nathan are coming from, preserving the vehicles, as they are not theirs to do what they want with, but it does make for a somewhat lacklustre "ultimate test". I don't think anyone's ownership of either vehicle is relevant when it comes to the testing. If you buy a purpose built $40k off road machine, and are not using it for off roading, you're doing it wrong. Your argument is that because they are expensive they shouldn't be used for their purpose? Weak.

    • @kingdaniel3519
      @kingdaniel3519 9 лет назад +1

      Dwealdric No, my point was that it's asinine to put down the hard work of someone that does these things for us, the viewers, when he has no pony in this race. When he puts his money where his mouth is, then he can criticize others work. These videos are for fun and not meant to be serious anyway because no one in their right minds would spend that kind of money on a vehicle to beat it up. Anyone that spends $40K to BUY an "off road machine" is off their rockers when for a fraction of that amount, they could build one multitudes better and not have to worry about resale or warranty or anything else. Hell, for $40K you could build 2 or 3 rigs! Also, for those of us that did build our own rigs, every time we see some yahoos like yall tearing up your shiny, new and expensive trucks, we laugh our asses off. So much wasted money and potential just because you're lazy and ignorant.

    • @alvilla701
      @alvilla701 9 лет назад +2

      I appreciate what TFL is doing, I know is not like the ultimate off road but I also know that they don't have unlimited money and you know off road could be very expensive so i dont think they want to spend thousands of dollars in just a single video

    Name the number of trails a wrangler can run on, now name the number of trails a raptor can run on. The jeep is versatile enough to do anything. The raptor is simply too big to go on a lot of trails. They are both very offroad capable. But the jeep can do anything. It isnt limited by anything. Plus when you think of jeep you think of offroading. Its a given. When you think of ford you think of many things. But offroading is in the jeeps blood. Now if they made the original broncos, itd be a different story. Toyota has always made offroad vehicles, Mercedes has since the 70s, land rover since the 40s. But if ford ever wants to actually compete side to side with the jeep they have to bring back the bronco. Trucks were originally made for hauling and towing, not offroading. sure maybe through mud, but for technical terrain, you need to mod the hell out of it to make it where other vehicles can go. Great review guys and i look forward to the YJ videos!

    • @BorchertRacing
      @BorchertRacing 7 лет назад

      Well you got your wish. They are bringing back the Bronco. I agree with everything you said. The Raptor is a helluva truck and very capable, but it's wide stance and long wheelbase limit it compared to the Jeep. Now if they made the Raptor in single cab and 6.5 ft box configuration, it'd be short enough that I don't think the width would matter too much, but they're bringing back the Ranger which was like that and then using the Ranger platform for the Bronco also, which means we're gonna be getting a couple of bad ass vehicles from Ford.

    I live in Colorado and I do NOT own a Raptor, but I think it's the best factory 4x4 you can buy. The 400+ hp a Raptor makes combined with the awesome suspension means you can absolutely rip up and down a mountain road! I used to have a WJ and couldn't hang with my neighbor's raptor on HWY 36 between Estes and Lyons, (I upgraded to a big rear sway bar and Bilsteins, powerstop rotors and still couldn't match his speed). However that Jeep went down the narrow roads like the one in the video no problem. The Rubi is way more popular here as it can fit in the trails and looks cool. But most XJs, ZJs and WJs with a little work are nearly as capable as the Rubi for far less $$ .
    I have a YJ w/33s for the trails and a NBS Silverado for my truck and DD needs but I'd love a Raptor with a 6.2!

    and both of them were designed for very different offroading styles: a raptor is built for high momentum offroading (that's why it has IFS), a jeep is made from low momentum crawling (that's why it has a solid front axle). you cannot compare them, you own both and choose the best for your adventure, it's like selecting a a screwdriver or a wrench.

    Big and bulky vs. smaller and lighter. Off road smaller and lighter wins most often. Big is only better when you have to carry a load off-road.
    Also, old and beater beats new vehicle every time. I don't mind getting my 10 year old tundra in the woods, but a $70k raptor?

  • @James-tr9eg
    @James-tr9eg 9 лет назад

    The Ford Raptor SVT is a purpose built vehicle, it wasn't built for running through the woods where you have tight corners and narrow passages nor was it designed for mud bogging. The concept behind the Raptor was that Ford wanted a off-road vehicle that could cross desert terrain at high speeds and be able to survive the impact/abuse of small to medium size jumps that most other vehicles would fail at if they took those same jumps/bumps at 75 mph-100 mph range. The reason why the Ford Raptor has a wider body stance is so that the driver does not have to let off the accelerator as much if at all when going into a medium to hard turns at a high rate of speed and the risk of flipping/rolling the vehicle is much lower than a vehicle with a narrow body width because unlike the Jeep the Raptor is more likely to slide/drift around the corner, basically by making the vehicle wider you can lower its center of gravity without actually having to sacrifice ground clearance. Ford also required it to be refined enough to be a daily driver thus you only see semi beefy shock absorbers as apposed to full blown Baja style shocks with huge amounts of travel in the front and rear. So if you look at what the vehicle was designed to do meaning cross Baja style terrain at a high rate of speed, it literally is the best stock truck you can buy on the market today. Now on the other end of the spectrum you have Jeep, which was made specifically for going out in the bush/woods and running a muck. I personally don't like the 4 door version due to the added length I think at that point you might as well have bought a SUV, but that aside for the price it is the best thing you can buy stock that is on the market for going off road in a wood/mountain terrain, unless you want to fork out some extra cash for a Land Rover.

  • @EyebrowsMahoney
    @EyebrowsMahoney 7 лет назад

    The Raptor was never intended to be the "Ultimate Off Road Vehicle". I don't understand how everyone seems to think that the Raptor is some god gift to off roading. It's not. Let's be clear here, it was designed first and foremost as a pre-runner style truck for running in the desert. The suspension and design on the truck was made for the desert. Sure, it can do some mild off road, but it will never be as capable stock for stock as a Jeep Wrangler, even moreso when modified. Don't get me wrong, the Raptor isn't a bad truck. But I don't get why the public seems to think that a desert rally truck is going to be a capable off road machine without extensive modifications to the opposite side of the spectrum. The truck was built too niche to be anything else without completely starting over.

      headcas620 I'm a pretty huge 4x4 geek. Discounting the Unimog (hard to argue with portals, but god I wouldn't want to drive one daily), none of the other 3 you mentioned are better, in my opinion. That's why I bought the Rubicon instead of importing the others. The only category the Jeep loses in is load capacity (which is honestly quite pathetic). In all other categories, the Rubicon is the clear victor.

    I think the problem nowadays with trucks is:
    1: too expensive to scratch or bang up
    2: not enough places to roam freely off road
    3: too expensive to fix if you do bang it up
    I would love to have a truck again but outside of winters it’s too expensive. Some of these trucks cost as much as a house now and they are not meant to last as long. I would love to have a Ford Ranger, Jeep or Ford Bronco but they are too expensive to bang up now.

    Fast Lane Truck I loved this two part series video. I was on the market a year ago to purchase a off road vehicle I was able to eliminate the power wagon after a couple test drives and I was left with the jeep unlimited Rubicon and the svt raptor. Both amazing vehicles but after talking to a jeep dealer and adding a couple packages I was shocked to see the price of the jeep I wanted and after only being offered free car washes from them. I decided to go with my 2014 SVT Raptor crew cab ruby red special edition the main convincing point was the nearly $10,000 deference. The raptor was the right choice for me my family loves it, its reliable, it looks great, and its a good daily driver. I even convinced my father to purchase one a couple months later. The raptor being my first real new car purchase definitely leaves me happy. I will look forward to purchase the new updated raptor once it comes out a couple years later. Again great video ! Guys keep it up.

    I understand not wanting to scratch the poo out of a new vehicle. I dont think anyone would no matter what kind of vehicle it is. However, you need an off road beast! Know what that is? Try out a 6x6 M35A2! The tree that was in the way, just mow it down and keep on going. I love off roading in these trucks! For Jeeps, yeah the newer ones seem to have a bad rep, but the older ones, they are truly the longest lasting vehicles on the road, inline 6 4.0L was probably the best gas motor jeep used.

    Fun vid...but it’s really not a question that needs to be asked. Wrangler wins on angles, clearance, tires, lockable diffs / articulation, and weight. Raptor’s a cool truck don’t get me wrong but If you know anything about what helps you out in the woods you know how this was going to end. As soon as I saw those sidesteps I said game over.

    There are many good qualities of many "off road" vehicles... but unless you've been there to drive a vehicle through shit and put it through the ringer, I'd say no one can really say anything worthy. My stock 96 XJ with light duty road this pulled through deeper crevasses, deeper mud, steeper inclines and at least 3 foot of snow with a layer of ice underneath and never got stuck. My own personal experiences would allow me to say that my Jeep kicks ass in many different scenarios. I just can't go over boulders or go through 5 feet of water. Which makes other off road vehicles better than my XJ.

    you're talking about something that was designed for off roading, vs something that can off road, but was also designed to do a bunch of other stuff. That rubicon wrangler wasn't even lifted that much i've got a niner that would rip right through that stuff light, fast, and lots of displacement in the 360 v8.
