What the hell is wrong with people saying they prefer how you looked before? Do they thing you can just undo the surgery? It's real life not a photoshopped picture on Instagram. And also now you have a way better quality of life after having a necessary medical procedure which is way more important that how a person looks. Sorry you have to deal with these people online. For me it was awesome to follow your journey as it's something I've never seen before.

The before and after photos are always wild to me because you really don't look any different to me with you just speaking but in the photos it's SO NOTICEABLE how much you've changed and for the better, especially health wise it sounds. I remember your first video and didn't think you looked much different until you showed your pictures. I'm also echoing the comments saying It's wild people that people are commenting on your appearance when you VERY OBVIOUSLY got this surgery for your health. Wild. I've been a long time sub and it's great to hear how you're feeling better!!!

I hope I never need jaw surgery. I have "benign" overgrowth of bone in my upper and lower jaw and palate. I suffer from pain and jaw locking on the right side of my face.
Because of how bad recovery from jaw surgery is, none of the dentists I've seen recommend it, unless it gets a lot worse, to the point it interferes significantly with eating and talking, or causing extreme pain.
I don't understand how anyone would think that you would put yourself through this, if you didn't actually need it, or for vanity reasons. Those people are extremely shallow and don't deserve your attention.
Also, they are probably jealous, because you are a very beautiful woman.

  • @JessicaMartinez-rq7ej
    @JessicaMartinez-rq7ej 4 года назад +2

I'm and old suscriber and i think you look beautiful then and beautiful now, sometimes people judge others just because they can't deal with their own image issues. You are healthy now and i don't see any difference with your nose, and even if you feel like there's some difference, remember that everyone change with age and that doesn't mean that the old version is better. Hope you are doing great and stay safe :)

Hi Emily, I had DJS in December. I remember watching your 6 month update right before I was going to get mine. I can't believe I'm there now! I'm so happy to hear your recovery has gone smoothly and that you're happy with your results. Even though I'm only at 6 months PO, I've noticed a significant increase in my quality of life (no more headaches, neck and back pain, bloating and hiccups) PLUS my face is so much more symmetrical and thus....prettier! Can't wait to reach my one year. Thank you for providing us with these videos, it really helped me when I was mentally prepping for my surgery.

I had the same surgery when I was 29. Wore braces in high school and they put me in rubber bands to correct my jaw. It caused me so many more problems. Developed headaches, vertigo, neck pain. It was around 1981. I had a car wreck in college and hit my chin on the steering wheel and they put me in a hard splint for my jaw. It was the first relief I had in 4 years. TMJ was new and wasn't diagnosed as much and i went to different doctors that basically told me they couldn't find anything wrong. Then when I was about 26 my jaw took a growth spurt on one side and everything was so off. I had to wear braces again as an adult and it took 2 years before my orthodontist and oral surgeon felt everything was in place to actually have the surgery. I'm sure there have been so many advances and thankfully you didn't have to wait as long as I did. I really didn't hurt at all from the surgery. Being unable to breathe through my nose and the swelling was the worst part. They tried to get me to eat food blended up in a blender through a straw because I was wired shut. That was awful. I ended up just surviving on Boost. I would do it all again. My face did change but like you it is more symmetrical. My nose changed some but I really couldn't tell that much. I also had nerve discomfort for a pretty long time but nothing that I couldn't handle. Don't be surprised in another year if you feel more swelling has gone down. I feel like it took me a full 2 years to not have the "chimpmunk cheeks" lol...it was so gradual but in pics is where I can really notice. Glad you had a good experience and you are right, do not do it unless it is a last option but for me it was the best option. It will just keep getting better and better and more comfortable!!!

I've seen a few of your videos because I have fair skin, and your lipstick reviews are so helpful. You don't need anyone's approval to feel happy or live your life, but I want to comment that your nose looks perfectly proportional to your face. I commend your bravery and patience for going through with a big decision like this. I've considered corrective jaw surgery because I have upper jaw pain and pain around my cheek bones due to a weak chin and small upper palate. Congratulations on your journey of recovery! And thank you for your honesty on RUclips - also an act of courage, for sure!

I also wanted to say you are such a brave lady! Going through surgery, especially the big ones, is scary and painful. I went through 2 major surgeries and I can tell it is not easy! One thing I think I will never understand is why some people just need to make mean comments on someone's appearance. I really hope you can overcome those mean comments coming from people who have no empathy and respect for anyone. The most important thing is how you feel, how your life has improved and how healthy you are. I am happy for you and I wish you all the best! I can't believe it's been a year already! (I know it must have been slower for you.) I do see the difference in your nose and I don't think you should be self-conscience at all. I notice you don't talk out of the side of your mouth anymore either. It must be good to breathe through your nose. I'm happy for you! I am sorry you have to deal with ignorant idiots. They are everywhere. (I have my own issues and people are pretty idiotic when they don't know anything about what you're going through. You've always been beautiful and honestly, without the before and after pictures I would have hardly noticed a change. Mostly because I don't necessarily look at people only by looks, but by personality. And you are beautiful inside and out. Also I know a couple people with VERY strong French and French/Canadian accents. You are very easy to understand and if you pronounce something "wrong" it's probably your accent. I see nothing wrong with that either. Don't let ignorant people get you down. Just know that they just aren't educated and probably don't have the life experience to properly speak. lol Sending love and hope you're doing ok.

You look really great! And the important thing is that is was to benefit your health.
I had jaw surgery as well during the summer break before my last year of high school (some 10 years ago). My lower jaw was in front of my upper jaw and also caused trouble chewing and the doctor told me that it would get worse with age. After the surgery it took a good year as well for my face to become "normal", not as swollen and looking like a chipmunk. I had to get braces as well (for the 3rd time!!) and I cringe whenever I see pictures of that period (last year of high school so many pictures were taken as memories), but it was all worth it. My jaw is not sliding anymore and I don't have issues with chewing. It does make a difference to your face, but i got used to it. I'm just happy that the surgery went well for you and that your health improved.

I have obstructive sleep apnea. It sucks. So glad I got my CPAP. Emily, have you been to a sleep center or do you have a machine? It might be worth getting checked again to make sure your AHI numbers are staying low.
Also, you look beautiful as always. 💛

Thank you for telling your experience! I went through doyble surgery and the bone did not consolidate well, so I have to have surgery again. I am worried and sad about it, especially since the recovery "returns to zero"

1 thing for those getting jaw surgery note that there will be some facial changes esp the nose . The nose area will be visibly a little wider

Yes, you may have changed something about your looks but you did it for your health above everything and that's the deal breaker.
You still look like yourself to me (I may have not noticed it if not for the announcement and the journey videos) and it would be funny to respond to the rudeness with "you also looked better last year" because honestly we all have changes in our looks over the years, whether it's bangs or age, and it is not a big deal.
I'm happy that you are feeling better and accepting your view of yourself because we are always the worst judge of ourself.

Tbh the first couple of weeks after any big surgery are always horrible. I had 3 illarov frames amongst a lot of other surgeries, so I knew what to expect after the 1st one yet it was still rough, especially I had different issues with each frame. But now I'm through it, 35 surgeries later, it was worth it to get straighter bones xD
I understand your struggles with your nose slightly, I struggle with my many scars at times too. It's like eugh, couldn't you go in smaller mr surgeon? Did you need all that room xD Most of the time, they don't bother me, but when my legs get stared at from being covered in scars of all shapes and sizes, I do feel a bit self conscious. And when I had my frames, I was treated like a zoo animal. It annoyed my family the most because people would stop talking and stare at me open mouthed. Or walk into something because they were staring so much, little kids would point or be afraid because they found my frame so frightening etc. So that was upsetting. I tried to offset it with fabulous OTT outfits though. Sometimes I would snark back if they were being rude "My dress is lovely isn't it" and pretend I didn't know what they were staring at.

Your face got rounder appearance I think. I never knew you had surgery. I thought you just gained weight. My lower chin/jaw isn't symmetrical either. I think I don't have any symptoms though. The thought of surgery terrifies me. Thanks for sharing, Emily!
