You’re beautiful and the surgery was a success!! There are always people who like to be naysayers let them do what they do; the majority of us see your wonderful results !
This is so interesting, the way your face shifted in small ways. You were beautiful before and you are beautiful now, I can’t believe people have been so awful. The main thing is that you can breathe properly, which is amazing ❤️
I think the most noticeable thing is how much more relaxed you seem now, I think you can see the difference it made to your own comfort. So glad you're doing well!
Hi Emily there is a big difference in the lower half of your face. I worked as a senior RGN (UK) or RN (US and Canada) for several years in maxillofacial and I've never seen this surgery - it's not routinely done. It is a major maxfax surgery and should never be undertaken lightly - no surgery should. What a difference though and I'm really glad your breathing and sleep has improved. I think you look great and that is a film star smile for sure. I thought your face was pretty before, but it is more even now and looks great. No one has a completely symmetrical face - we just don't. In fact that is one reason why CGI faces never look "right". All in all I'm glad you're happy with the results and you look fab. Both braces and invisiline can cause a slight lisp, but that should settle down once you're used to not wearing them. Best wishes.
I’ve been told my whole life I need this surgery and I’ll be going through with it in the next year, I’ve been following your whole journey and I want to say thank you! You have made me feel a lot better about it and I think you look great too:)
Thank you so much Emily for these videos!!! Our little girl is going to need such a surgery in a few years and we are terrified!!! Your videos give us courage and makes us see the positive side of things... You look gorgeous! Hugs from Greece 🇬🇷!
I literally can't understand how people can be so rude when talking to others. Mind your own business haters. The woman needed the surgery for better quality of life and you have no right bashing her.
Makes me so angry people can't comprehend that it's medical and if they can they still feel the need to say you 'looked better'. Like you said, you can breathe probably now and isn't that so much more important. Besides you're still so pretty.
Major surgery is so difficult. I speak from experience, so can relate. I am so happy that you are satisfied with your results and are healthier and happier for it! You look beautiful as always and are obviously genuinely pleased and that is what matters. Thank God for that.
As a korean living in Seoul I've enjoyed your contents. And as I've seen all your contents already I know that it was your choice based on right reasons and deep consideration. So it is not just about looking pretty but with times I can tell it more balanced and settled so well! You are just looking great ;)♥✨
Your videos have motivated me to go back and address my breathing and septum issues again. I had a corrective surgery in my early 20s and now I am 36 years old and have horrible sleep apnea, asthma and allergies and surprise surprise the septum is once again deviated (apparently its actually quiet common and people end up going back for atleast one more follow up procedure). I also live in Canada and the waiting list is long and thanks to covid will take even longer to get my turn. I am also in the process of getting invisiline, something I put off for years (even with having 2 great extended benefit plans). Goes to show how so many things have to line up before we finally take steps to help ourselves and do what's needed to improve our quality of life. Thanks Emily for all your updates 😊.
You look great! I don't think I would notice anything different without a video explaining everything, to be honest. And even with your explanations, I don't see what you mean about your nose being crooked. I think some people on the internet are just bitter and mean. Glad you feel better! Thanks for updating.
i really don't get the comments about your appearance, you look better and also younger somehow. congrats on your recovery and surgery results, it looks like it was super successful ❤️
You did change but you look beautiful either way! The other day I was thinking that this “new look” makes you look younger. I’ve been watching your book channel and I’m a fan! You’re so smart and thoughtful. I found you because of beauty and when I started reading again I followed you there too. I’m glad you were able to fix the problems and that now your life quality has improved! Hugs from Mexico!
Your teeth will try to go back to their original position, so don’t ever stop wearing your retainers at night. I had braces 20 years ago and I still have to wear retainers every night. Almost all my friends that stopped wearing their retainers got braces again in the last few years to fix their bites and make their teeth straight again. Good luck! 💕
You look amazing! I got corrective surgery for my septum because I had severe sleep apnea and constant sinus infections. They fixed my septum but it changed the tip of my nose and the shape of my nostrils. I don't like it but I can breathe and sleep so the trade off was worth it!
It’s funny how your nose looks exactly the same in the before and after side pics but different in the head on shot. Either way, you look beautiful in both and much more importantly, you feel better! It’s been so interesting following your journey
Happy you are feeling better after double jaw surgery and no longer having all the symptoms that made your surgery necessary. Can’t imagine how painful the surgery and recovery process has been. I’ve always appreciated your honesty, intelligence and sense of humor. I enjoy watching your videos on this channel and your BookTube channel. You are beautiful inside and out.❤️😘🤗
Whoever commented that you “messed up your face” is an insecure, soulless troll. 🤯 I have watched your videos for a very long time and oftentimes forget that you ever had surgery because you look just as beautiful as ever. I don’t even think about the differences until you do videos like this and show side-by-side photos. I’m so happy to hear that you feel better, your neck pain has improved and that you haven’t broken any more teeth! ❤️😘❤️ (Your smile is absolutely gorgeous btw!!! I can’t imagine what a relief it is to have the Invisalign finally removed!). Thank you for letting us know how you are doing! 💕
Cant believe it’s been 18 months already, you look great! I can relate to the chewing problems. I am almost done with my braces. For the first time I can actually close my jaw and chew with my back teeth. Before braces I had so many problems. Definitely worth all the pain and worth the money, too.
Hey girl I had maxillofacial surgery back in 2012 and I didn’t have any issues until 2018. I ended up having one of the titanium screws back out from the plate and cause an infection. So I had surgery to remove the one that was causing problems. However plus side if you do have the same thing happen to you many years down the line the pain is nothing compared to the jaw surgery :)
Hi Emily! I discovered your channel when I was 3 weeks post-surgery. I had double jaw surgery as well, my issue was a skeletal class 2, so my bottom jaw didn't grow enough and my teeth didn't meet when I chewed, I had migraines and neck and shoulder pain daily. The surgery went well although my swelling was a lot on the inside of my throat and I almost had to be intubated, thankfully it all worked out. I had been preparing myself for months so the first 3 weeks I was fine, and then the psychological aspect hit and that's when I found your first video about this. It helped so much I can't even explain, I was crying the whole time I watched the video 😅 My surgery was on the 10th of August 2019, and this month I'm going to remove my braces 😁 It's been a really tough time, I experienced a lot of articular and muscle pain and have been doing physical therapy for over a year, and things just wouldn't improve! I couldn't open my mouth past 32mm and finally, in the last month everything started to improve and I can now eat without pain 😭 Your videos have been incredibly helpful and I have felt seen, because despite all the support I had from my family and friends, after two months everyone assumed I was fine, and your videos helped, because you were 2-3 months ahead in your recovery and it helped to have something to look forward to! I then discovered your booktube channel and I have watched every video ever since. Thank you for sharing your experience and sorry for the long-ass post 😂
I love long-ass posts! I'm so happy my videos have been helpful to you. I know that when I was recovering, I was watching/reading everything I could find! The surgery, while difficult physically, was also more challenging psychologically for me too. I'm glad you're feeling better!
@@beautywithemilie Yes, so was I! Before surgery I avoided looking up anything related to it for fear of just finding the bad experiences, but after I was really helpful to connect with people that had experienced something similar
Oh I made the mistake of looking just before the surgery but when I read that "it's totally normal to feel like you're going to die at one point during the recovery"... I stopped lol During the first 4 days it kept me sane though to see people going through the same thing and eventually getting better!
@@beautywithemilie For me it was my parents! My mom slept in my room and my father came everyday. The second night I woke up twice and got up by myself to go to the bathroom and I said a lot of senseless things and kind of freaked my mom out 😅 Turns out it was just a weird reaction to coming off the general anesthesia... I found the beginning physically really hard but at the same time everyday I could see progress, like taking less than 30 minutes to take all the pills 🙄 I had surgery in portugal, and I do not understand why there was no other for me to take my medicine, since I didn't feel my face and my throat was super swollen 😣 But oh well!
Thank you for documentation of this process. I just had surgery and these videos have been so accurate for recovery and it is amazing how fast you recovered!
about the nose thing, I did double jaw surgery and it changed the structure of my face to the better, but I'm, since then (it has been 3 years), dying to do a nose job. I thought it was me wanting everything to look perfect since I finally got my jaw surgery, but now I realized it did change in shape and I don't like it nowadays. Also!, I just want to notice, for you and everyone, don't fall back to old habits. My doctor always says Teeth has memories of their own, and later on, they will start moving back to how they used to be, not 100% and not so quick, it would take like 10 years before you even notice they have moved already. so just don't fall into the old habits that made you reach this stage. Also if you have sinus problems, fix them NOW, because they WILL show up sooner or later. they did for me and I started to open my mouth again which is exactly why jaw moved into an open bite in the first place.
I am so happy how everything healed and turned out! It's crazy to look back on older videos post op and seeing how much swelling you had and how it is gone now!! I hope you're super happy with the results and the entire thing. You look stunning and hopefully you're doing great. Stay safe beautiful! ♡ PS: Would you be interested in doing some lip swatches/review of the Essence Colour Boost mad about matte Liquid lipsticks? Their price is awesome and since we're all wearing masks it can't be bad to have another formula introduced to us by you!
the metal thing behind your teeth is called retainer. It is placed inside your mouth because when your teeth were being moved they become very "flexible" so any, even the lightest pressure might put them out of place again. you will get used to that pretty quickly, the only thing you have to keep in mind is that normal floss doesn't work; you will either need one, that is very stiff or an interdentalbrush (idk if that's the corrcet term in english)
You look like a slightly different, equally sweet and beautiful, version of yourself. I don't get why people are being so rude, especially when it comes to health related procedures.
It’s crazy seeing the comparison. Back before she had surgery I never noticed her jaw. But looking back the difference is amazing! Emily definitely looks better now and (more importantly) the health benefits seem incredible. She is beautiful:)
Happy that you are healed almost completely and that the surgery accomplished the desired effect. You are beautiful then and now. Thanks for the update. 😻💙💙
You look great, people are ignorant & need to stfu, I must say I think you look better now, not an insult to how you looked before I thought you were lovely but your jaw line now is amazing & I can see what you mean about needing the surgery, glad you are feeling so much better!
I've been following your recovery and I am so proud of you for making it this far! I have many of the same issues (sleep apnea), slight crossbite, asymmetrical jaw, problems breathing through my nose, with the addition of jaw pain, and I am getting jaw surgery in 12 days. I am pretty terrified to be honest, but your videos help soooo much, so thank you! Curious if you have been doing any myofunctional therapy or specific exercises to retrain your muscles to prevent relapse. I do notice your bottom jaw shifts to the left still as you talk. Is this something you worry about? I'm sort of worried about this aspect.
I'm a year post-op from orthognathic surgery too, mine was on my bottom jaw only though. The only negative thing for me is that I have some sensitivity to my gum on one side, only noticeable when eating/drinking something v hot or v cold! You look really happy here so I'm glad it went so well for you too! :)
You look gorgeous!!! Honestly, you still look like you. The surgery was definitely a success, I would never have noticed your nose... If i didn't know you had surgery and saw you only now I wouldn't have guessed the change was due to surgery... People change it's called time and aging... Sometimes time is kind to some people... I would probably say "Girl, you look beautiful! Is it your hair??" Who are these people???
Omg what. I hadn't watched you in a while and I came back and was like "she looks different, it must be the bangs". How wrong I was!! I think it looks great either way. You were beautiful before and you still are.
Mind reader! I was just thinking about this yesterday! You look lovely Emily, even when you said you had a lot of swelling, still prettier than any people.
Thanks for doing the update! Your teeth look fantastic!!!! Beautiful before and after and the best part is you can breathe better. None of us are symmetrical and unless you mention it it's not noticeable. ❤
Yes, there is the difference, but you look so happy (I suppose because there are no problems with breathing and etc). And this happy look makes you so beautiful! :)
You look beautiful!! So glad you are happy with the results. Who is symmetrical by the way? Almost no one is. My left leg is 2 cm larger than the other because of surgery and I’ve had multiple surgeries on my knees so I have some scars but I can do everything these days so who cares :)
Been a viewer even before you got surgery 🙂 I'm so happy that you are getting a better way of life after all you've been through 🙂 nothing beats that all the best Emily 🙂 Stay beautiful
I wish my nerves would heal. I had years of dental cleanings and never realized they were injuring the nerves. Ended up with trigeminal neuralgia which is facial pain. Very horrible pain. Did they ever discuss that with yoI know any facial surgery can come with the possibility of this happening. You look beautiful. I don’t notice too much change.
My problem is completely unrelated but I used to have braces as a kid and young teen. Afterwards I was supposed to wear lose braces (the doctor called them retention plates) and I have glued in retainer wires. I didn't wear the lose braces because they are so annoying and trying to wear them after a while hurt. Which is a sign that the teeth moved again and you should be wearing the braces more often. But being 15/16 I was just annoyed and over the entire braces thing. Now at age 21 the retainer wire broke between two teeth and in just 3 days my front teeth started to shift and turn. So I panicked and ran to my doctor. I now have to wear my retainer every night and turn the screw over the next few weeks. Hopefully my teeth will align until next month. I really can't afford a new set of braces or even new brackets. My point: Thanks to your videos I don't feel embarrassed about needing braces again and thankfully didn't hesitate to immediately call my doctor for an appointment. I don't know your entire medical history or how invisalign works but do you not need long term retention? The retainer wire is after all only glued to the front teeth and does nothing to secure the teeth in the back. (Mine really started moving when I got my wisdom teeth removed so maybe yours won't move again?) It's just something I am curious about.
TFS. This was an interesting video. I don't watch this channel, I'm a subscriber to your book channel but this video popped up on my home page and I was curious as you had made the odd comment on your book channel. I must say I never really noticed a huge difference until you pointed out you'd had surgery and even then I didn't really know what the difference was and never came to this channel to find out. I guess I watch your book channel for your books and not how you are looking. It's good to hear that things are going good for you after the surgery.
I still use my plastic 'retention' thing and I have stopped using bracers 8 years ago xD Also I should do the same cirurgie, but I don't want to and the retention helps me not to make so much pressure on my teeth...

Hi Emily there is a big difference in the lower half of your face. I worked as a senior RGN (UK) or RN (US and Canada) for several years in maxillofacial and I've never seen this surgery - it's not routinely done. You look great and I'm so glad you're feeling good too! It's been so interesting watching this journey, thank you for sharing it with us
You look great, people are ignorant & need to stfu, I must say I think you look better now, not an insult to how you looked before I thought you were lovely but your jaw line now is amazing & I can see what you mean about needing the surgery, glad you are feeling so much better!
you literally aged backwards what the heck, you look amazing and so happy! I'm so thrilled for you!
Had my 3 month post-op appt today and you’re posting this video, perfect! You look amazing Emily :)
I never really noticed the difference in your nose! You look great and I'm glad you're doing well!
I honestly barely notice it now. It was swollen after surgery but that went down 🤷♀️
Your jawline looks great! Very flattering to your features! You look different but in a good way and not so drastic that it doesn’t look like you.
Thank you for sharing your story, I’m happy that you can breathe better and that you are happy 🌟 I think you are so beautiful, as always!✨
Thank you for sharing. You look fantastic and I’m glad to hear that your medical problems improved!
It looks soo good !! 💗 just subscribed as well u have an amazing personality 💕
You are beautiful!! Happy it all went well and that you are happy with the results and feel good.
You look amazing! Happy you are feeling better after everything :)
That’s crazy I couldn’t even most of the “deformities” like the jaw and nose being crooked. You look lovely ✨
Yes, there is the difference, but you look so happy (I suppose because there are no problems with breathing and etc). And this happy look makes you so beautiful! :)
Deja 18 mois?! J'ai l'impression que c'était il y a six mois, le temps passe tellement vite
You literally look great and im glad you're healthy 💗
Glad you’re doing and feeling well. Thanks for sharing your story 😀
You are such a beautiful human being. Beautiful before and beautiful now.
Ppl can be so rude and maybe they should look in the mirror. You look beautiful. You definitely did not mess up your face. It’s gorgeous..
What a great transformation...congrats
Hope it has helped you... Can't believe its been so long ago! 😍
im getting this surgery in korea, working on the process. howd you handle the situation with a job? did u quit working for a bit?
You look amazing! Love you, Emily! ❤
You look amazing! So happy for you! ❤️
I still use my plastic 'retention' thing and I have stopped using bracers 8 years ago xD
Also I should do the same cirurgie, but I don't want to and the retention helps me not to make so much pressure on my teeth...
damn it Koreans out here doing God's work
you look great btw❤️
I had DJS in July and I am impatiently awaiting my results
I'm glad you are doing ok, you look great!
You're looking great! You look like your back to your pre-surgery self!
I am so happy that you are happy and healthy. You look great! God bless
You were beautiful before and now even more, love your videos ❤😍
Your nose looks really cute actually. The nostrils maybe are a little wider but I feel like the tip is more pointy and defined
You are just beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story.❤️❤️
I think you look lovely! You're the only other person I've ever seen with my jaw issue - thank you for sharing!
You are so honest! And pretty before and after 😀
i find you beautiful, this lip gloss suits you wonders
This is incredible !! You are so beautiful
Still beautiful, stunning! Miss you lots, hope you're doing well!
