Hey everyone! It seems like a lot of people don't know much about Corrective Double Jaw Surgery so I hope this video helps. Orthognathic surgery is done to correct jaw deformities and is not considered "cosmetics" even though by correcting the deformity you might have cosmetic benefits. It is a major surgery and after consulting with many professionals, it was decided that I would benefit from it. I really appreciate everyone's support during my recovery and can't wait for part 2! :)
BeautywithEmilyFox So glad you are healing and feeling better. I was surprised to hear that you were getting plastic surgery since you are already beautiful. Thanks for explaining the reasons why (not that you had to!).
I hope recovery is going well! It is surprising that your orthodontist when you had braces before didn't correct your jaw alignment then. Did they recommend anything at that time? Or maybe when you broke your tooth? I'm also curious to know how you found out about the condition and why you chose to go to Korea instead of having it done in Canada.
I’m glad you got this surgery to help with your issues, I hope it works out well and you feel much better. Also why did you choose a Korean medical facility instead of an American or Canadian one?
I noticed you favored one side and would tilt your head but I just thought it was your mannerisms like I talk with my hands. I hope this takes care of all your symptoms and you feel better very soon!
Not gonna lie, I initially thought this was clickbait somehow.. it just didn't seem real.. I hope you're doing well.. I'm also a big baby when it comes to these types of things.. can't wait to hear more!
I definitely expected everyone to freak out and not understand lol Hopefully most people watch the video before judging and it clears things up! Dude, same! I had 3 girls petting my legs and reassuring me just for the blood test 😂
BeautywithEmilyFox I never knew you had issues with your jaw so this video was surprising! But honestly I feel like there’s no need for you to explain yourself, it’s your choice and ppl are always so quick to judge. And thanks for sharing, the doctors seem really experienced and looks like you had a good time!! Ty
Interesting. I've watched Sharon Farrell's journey through her reconstructive jaw surgery. She had health issues which were addressed by the surgery; and 2 years later, she is so happy with the results. I wish you a safe recovery!
I've had four major reconstructive spinal surgeries and I gotta say, as much as that was the greatest pain I've ever endured, I cannot cope with dental pain AT ALL and I don't think I could endure this type of surgery so you're a badass!!
My first thought was... Omg noooo you're already sooo beautiful ♥️ I didn't know that problem existed. I hope you're feeling better 😘 Love the editing btw☺️
Same here! I’ve had chronic headaches and migraines for over a decade and my TMD causes me endless grief. I didn’t realize you could get the jaw surgery unless you had lockjaw. Definitely scary... I didn’t realize it could cause these problems... more to look forward to.
When you were saying you were having the surgery. I didn't understand why because you're so beautiful. But I'm glad you explained why. Hope you are feeling better!
As someone with the same issue, this was a really fascinating watch. I knew surgery was possible, but never really looked into it. I can’t wait for part 2, and I hope you’re recovering well! xx
I'm so glad you posted this video! I had to get double jaw surgery done with genioplasty about 5 years ago now. You're so lucky you didn't have to get braces again! (I did. Not fun!) I found the process really tough mentally and physically, so make sure you keep reaching out to your supports. Thanks for bringing more awareness to this issue! I hope your healing process goes well :)
it wasn't until you said those issues you had that I realised them on you, and the fact that I might have very similar issues as well.. thank you for sharing!!
I did a double-take when I first saw the title and that it was you who posted it. But then I immediately knew it wasn’t for vanity reasons. Wishing you a speedy recovery and can’t wait to see part 2 of the video. ❤️ Also, I think Sharon Farrel had a similar surgery for health reasons as well.
Hi Emily! I just want you to know that I am happy you got your health issues fixed and as someone who has hips that don't line up the pain and compensation your body does is unreal so I totally get that! I hope you have a speedy recovery and that you are happily reading and resting somewhere :)
It was very interesting to watch - I also had the double jaw surgery in my country 2 years ago because it was the only way I could have fixed my underbite. I'm super happy with the results (my face changed so much!) Wishing you speedy recovery!
I'm honestly so grateful your making these videos about your experience. I've struggled with tmj for years and my jaws are to far back and have been told of this surgery as an option. This was when I was 20 years and now I'm 25 and I can tell things are worse. Like you I have neck and shoulder pain and swallow air a lot as well as other problems. I would be so scared to go through this because I've been told of the problems that could come after. So seeing your progress and recovery could be the push I'd need.
I was sceptical clicking on this video, but now I hope it solves most of your problems. My parents went couple times to Koera for medical services (not cosmetics) but it's because it's like 2hr flight and translators speak my parents native language. I'm glad that western people now get to know asia better. And yes, I will wait for the haul :)
OMG!!! Finally, someone had this surgery too! I had mine about 7 years ago, my jaw was like yours it tilted on the right side and significantly forward. I had a lot of chewing inside of my mouth on my own flesh issues and my jaw joints are not stable for my to open my mouth beyond certain point, I had to be careful every time I eat. I got to say it is a hard surgery to recover, I had my mouth tie up with wires for a whole month, had to intake only liquids. And the pain was so bad the first couple of days, and my whole face swollen for couple of weeks didn’t help my feel better either. now I’m so much happy with straight-er jaw, much confident too! ☺️ However I do start snoring after I had this surgery, my doctor brushed this issue off like it’s a no big deal..... sigh😔
It sounds like you really did your research and used all the tools at your disposal to make sure you found the best fit for you. You are so brave to go through such a major surgery, I really hope that you get the results that you want from it and it improves your health overall ❤️
You are just so incredibly brave. I have endured multiple surgeries, more than I can count on my fingers. But nothing as extensive as what you had. I hope you are recovering well and are starting to notice improvement in your symptoms!
You are brave and kind to share this with us, and I'm sure you are helping a lot of people who also have to come to terms with surgery. I'm thankful for your videos, they are always interesting and intelligent.
Wow... this is really eye-opening for me because I have similar problems like uneven jaw, sinus issues, favouring one side of my mouth when talking, etc. Of course, everybody is different and perhaps my jaw and sinus issues aren't even connected, but now that I know that the possibility exists, it's something worth looking more into for myself. This has really been such an informative video. Can't wait for the next update! Thanks Emily! Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery! 💕
I came here from your book review channel and just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery!! I would never have noticed if you hadn't have mentioned it but I am so glad you will be out of pain after your surgery!
I had this same jaw issue! I noticed it because I had really bad gum recession on my bottom front teeth and when I went in to get it checked, they said it was because of my crooked jaw/bad bite! I was able to get away with only getting the bottom jaw worked on. It was honestly not painful *at all* for me. Which was good because I'm a wuss and I was so nervous about the healing process! I got my surgery in August 2018. :) Enjoy all the benefits of the new jaw!
I hope you recover soon, Emily! Though it may take a while, considering the procedure you went through. I actually scrubbed in a similar surgery and I think it was the most terrifying one I have ever witnessed or participated in (I decided against becoming a surgeon quite soon in med school anyway 😂). So take your time to be back on track! Bisous x
Iv had 5 jaw surgeries in the last 2 and a half years (I had a 6 inch long tumor in my right side jaw!) The last surgery I had, was a month ago. And MAN Em!! I'm proud of you!!! Coming from someone who lives and breathes jaw problems, your speech sounds FABULOUS for only a month in!!!! You're doing GREAT!!! 💪
Oh my, poor you! My recovery has been as good as it's possible! Obviously the first days were miserable but I'm doing great. Hope you feel better soon ❤️
@@beautywithemilie omg I didnt think youd personally reply 😭😭!!!!! Thank you Emily!!!!!! We got this!!!! And we'll have lovely, healthy jaws in the end!!!!
Oh my goodness girl! Wishing you a speedy recovery! I just had my wisdom teeth out the other week, so I definitely understand missing solid food! Can’t wait to see the next update! ❤️
Wow! I never would have known you had anything wrong with your jaw. I enjoy your beauty & book channels and never noticed a thing. I hope you’re feeling back to yourself this was definitely a major surgery and recovery!
Wow Emily! I'm amazed and so glad you shared this with us! The video was fantastic. I can't wait to see the outcome. I hope you're feeling well and are happy with the results!
I saw the title of this video and clicked so fast ❤️! First of all, want you to know how badass and beautiful you are. I noticed the head tilt and favoring the left side but enjoyed it bc it makes you unique and real! Never noticed anything else and I’m so sorry you had to deal with all these other issues. So happy your surgery went well and wish you a speedy rest of your recovery! Can’t wait for Part 2! Also, thank you for sharing this life experience with us and bringing light to this medical condition. ☺️
GIRL WHAT YOU GOT SURGERY?! I'VE BEEN GONE FOR A WHILE. Hope you're doing well and I've been so interested in getting plastic surgery in Korea so I'm glad you decided to document it
I'm going through some teeth problems right now and I know how much it hurts but our health is very important , good luck with your recovery and you're a very brave girl !
For some reason this video made me emotional??? You're so brave for doing this! I'm so happy that it will help you lead a healthier life. Can't wait to see the end result!!
Oh Emily, the thumbnail scared me. You are so strong and brave. Glad you were well taken care of, and I hope you never go through something like this alone again.
Wow, what a huge surgery! I trust you made the right decision for yourself. Looking forward to seeing part 2. I hope you are feeling better and the rest of your recovery goes smoothly for you. Take care. ❤
Wow! Very brave of you to do this surgery, and braver to share your experience! I hope you are recovering nicely. Thanks for being so thorough in your explanations. Can't wait for part 2!
You're so strong Emily, hope your recovery is going well! 💞 I didn't know you were doing this surgery, but now the prefilmed videos makes even more sense. Thank you for taking us along on this journey through clips, the process was interesting to watch and I'm staying tuned for the part 2 and an update on how things are now with your jaw. 💗 Bisous! (the only French goodbye-phrase I could think of right now, hope it wasn't too out of place 😄)
Yes I noticed it looked like it hurt for you to close your mouth at times or talk, but I couldn’t tell your speech was off cause of your cute accent! Thank you for sharing.. I have a lot of issues with my jaw too, and I have to wear a mouth guard.
Best wishes for speedy recovery Emily. For those criticizing the Canadian health system, it is not perfect and does not cover dental, eyes for adults . However there are free services including almost free dental services for children. You don’t have to think twice before going to an emergency room because your child has a fever because you might be out of 5000$ deductible as it is in the US. Or if you are a 65 yrs old women with diabetes, you don’t have think twice about buying your insulin or saving to get food on the table, because the government has programs to help. As I mentioned, It is not perfect and we have shortage in doctors and clinical staff, therefore we have long waiting times... but you won’t be turned away from an ER if you need to see a doctor, because you don’t have insurance or this ER is not within you insurance network. As a Canadian, and like others we do pay higher taxes to have this service, but I will never complain, because the same system helped me in getting over a major health scare. I work in the medical field and I am aware of problems with socialized medical system. But I also believe that basic health care should not be a privilege it should be free for all.
I never noticed any of this until you pointed it out in this video but now that you pointed it out it’s super obvious that you needed the surgery.. good luck with the surgery and I’ll say a lil prayer for you..❤️🧚🏻♀️
Were you alone, as in no SO or family member with you for thw process? It must have been hard to be recovering and so far from home... It shows so much strength!
A lovely friend went with me for the first part of the trip so I wouldn't be alone! I'm pretty independent so I didn't mind being alone afterwards but tbh the girls working there were so lovely I couldn't have felt lonely!
@@beautywithemilie It's a good idea to always have a friend or family member with you as your advocate when undergoing a medical procedure especially one that involves anesthesia irregardless of being independent. They're not there for insecurities or loneliness they're there to make sure you get the best care & that your wishes & advanced orders are followed if certain events unfold. It's for your safety.
Oh my god Emily I was SOOOO curious about your surgery after you posted the picture on Instagram! So interesting to see how the progress is in Korea! :) I’m currently in the beginnings of my preparation for a jaw surgery due to my severe overbite (1cm!!!) but I live in Germany and will get it done here as well... I’ve had the same X-ray stuff done (my ears hurt after that ouch) and the imprints are pure evil but at least mine tasted like watermelon hahaha. I will need braces unfortunately so I’m glad you didn’t :) very curious on how your recovery was so far, I hope you’re well ❤️looking forward to part 2 :)
I wish you a smooth recovery, as painless as possible. Think that this is a short period in your life that will contribute to that the rest of your life will be much better. Good luck :-)
Emily, thank you so much for sharing. I hope the recovery is going well. Looking forward to seeing the whole experience on the next videos! You area a brave woman!!!
I can't believe I've been watching you for 5 years and haven't noticed your asymmetrical jaw. I work in a dental lab and we make nightguards and sleep apnea appliances (oral devices that push your lower jaw forward to create an unobstructed airway without, or in combination with, a CPAP machine that uses air pressure to create the same effect). And damn, a 3mm difference is significant. I'm curious if you've been using a nightguard/splint to help protect your teeth on your left side? I wish you a speedy recovery and I sincerely hope it significantly increases your quality of life. Can't wait for part 2!
Your comment actually made me laugh! I think the tilt and the fact you saw me through a video instead of in person hid the asymmetry. Yay for confirming 3mm is a lot because people hear that and don't realize how it's actually pretty big haha Thank you :)
That's crazy, i don't see any difference before and after surgery. But you had so many complaints so i am so happy for you that you finally feel better. Screw all the bad comments. It's nonsense and your health is the most important
Hi Emily! I hope you are feeling well! I know exactly what you mean when you said “3mm doesn’t seem like a lot but it is”. I have a skull/brain malformation that is 3mm lower than where it should be and it causes me A LOT of pain. It has also caused me to haunch/tilt my head to compensate. Thank you for shedding light on these types of surgeries. I think sometimes assume because they can’t see the problem there’s nothing wrong which is not the case. :)
I’m sorry you’re dealing with this! It’s really frustrating to get comments saying they don’t see it and I didn’t need it when I had 2 maxillo-facial surgeon confirming it... clearly the random people on the internet know better 😒😂
BeautywithEmilyFox Yes! I hear the same thing too! “Well, you look fine”. I’m like yeah because the damage is INSIDE my skull and you can’t see it! I’m sorry people are being so rude to you. I think you’re very brave for sharing this with everyone. 💜
Thanks for sharing. I'm almost 30, and I've had a hard time breathing through my nose since I was in my teens. As I'm getting older, this surgery is something I'm considering for my future health. I never thought this may be an issue but I've heard of a few cases. This video had given me the wakeup call I need to get myself checked and see if this type of surgery can benefit me as well. Once again, thank you so much. 💖
So glad you’re back home and doing well! I hope you recover super fast if you are still going through it. Thanks for sharing, I had no idea about this.
I know how you feel! I have tmj with severe cracking and clicking in my jaw. I can’t eat or even yawn without pain and I’ve always wished I could do something about it. Jaw/teeth pain and problems are the worst!!!! Wishing you a speedy recovery 💜
Awww bless your heart. I had no idea this was a thing and I'd never noticed the head tilt or that you favored one side. I can imagine that this was a very scary decision to make and process to go through. I'm a wuss as well when it comes to needles, hospitals, surgery, etc. I hope all is well, love.
I never realized but I've been feeling a lot of pain on the right side of my lower jaw and headaches but I never paid much attention to it. One day I was looking at myself in the mirror and I realized that my lower jaw was shifted to my left, which completely explains the pain I've been experiencing. Watching your videos literally made me put 2 and 2 together haha thank you!
This is really inspiring. There are a lot of problems our body can have or develop that just wouldn’t be considered “medically necessary” by private US insurance, and I am sure would not be a priority for government health care. The plastic surgery industry in Korea presents a lot of interesting questions about diversity, conformity, body dysmorphia, and society’s beauty standards, but it’s clear from your video that it also has made more available and affordable the kind of corrections that improve quality of life and relieve pain! Not everyone can afford to travel for health care, but I think a lot of people who look into it are surprised by it being less expensive than they thought, and countries like South Korea offer a really high standard of safety and quality of work. This is the kind of thing I would consider in the future if a surgery could help me stay healthy and active as I age (I have had 5 spinal surgeries already here in the US and more orthopedic surgery is always a real possibility for me).
So interesting!!!!!! Can't wait for part 2! My dentist and orthodontist have been suggesting jaw surgery since I was a teen. My lower jaw sticks out more so my bite is really off. My teeth don't even touch completely on one side. Causes lots of issues but unfortunately my health isn't good enough to do much about it. Plus I'm a chicken lol. Can't wait to see your results!!!
MokaTutu if you're able to, I would say you should do it. I had this surgery and it was one of the best choices I ever made, helped a lot with my breathing problems and chronic pain
The change is subtle but it works for you. I'm happy that you are able to get most advantages of this surgery since your health problems seem tremendous
I hope all is well and you are healing up without any complications! I had a fried who had this done a few years ago and she did have quite a few complications. Our families were stationed together in NJ and I have since lost touch with her, so I'm not sure how things have turned out for her. In the year or so following her surgery she did have many followup procedures. Wishing you well!
I had nasal and sinus surgery. People thought it was cosmetic because it changed the shape of my nose. I think facial surgeries just by nature change the shape. I have an overbite that causes me a lot of headaches and ear pain. I hope it went well! People don’t understand how hard it is to breathe properly when things aren’t aligned.
I really liked the way you speak and never would have guessed you had any flaws. However I respect your brave decision. You look so much like my sister and that’s why I watch all your videos . I m perfect Maybelline Natural Buff 310 in skin shade but my sister is Ivory shade... Praying you recover well and fit.
Koreans are awesome! Edit: I have also had plastic surgery to correct asymmetry, though my results were not as good as yours - but also not nearly as big of a surgery. My recovery was extremely painful despite max pain meds for 3wks & I am also a wuss who was terrified before! Despite not getting the full results I wanted, I appreciate the minor improvement. I'm not sure I would do it again (to try for better results), though! If I do, I will go to Korea for the op. Thanks for sharing, from another person who grew asymmetrically!

Sorry if this is blunt, or obvious, but cost? Compared to Canada maybe?
Recovery? And diet after surgery?
How much does it cost?
How long were you in Korea?

I saw the title of this video and clicked so fast ❤️! First of all, want you to know how badass and beautiful you are. I noticed the head tilt and favoring the left side but enjoyed it bc it makes you unique and real! Never noticed anything else and I’m so sorry you had to deal with all these other issues. GIRL WHAT YOU GOT SURGERY?! I'VE BEEN GONE FOR A WHILE. Hope you're doing well and I've been so interested in getting plastic surgery in Korea so I'm glad you decided to document it
😲 omg, are you ok? I don’t think you said exactly how you are feeling after four weeks. Are you still in Korea?
I'm back home and doing well :)

It's not my best picture for sure XD
Here’s to a speedy recovery and I sincerely hope everything turns out the way you want it to.
I'm glad you are okay and I hope you won't have any health problems in the future. Have a speedy recovery.
you are so strong! wish u a speedy recovery and cannot wait for your part 2!
Yes I noticed it looked like it hurt for you to close your mouth at times or talk, but I couldn’t tell your speech was off cause of your cute accent! Thank you for sharing.. I have a lot of issues with my jaw too, and I have to wear a mouth guard.
I have always found you really really beautiful, but I had no idea u had such a condition....I hope you recover soon darling ❤️
I can’t wait to hear how it went! Hoping this has solved all your jaw-related problems. ❤️❤️❤️
I never noticed any of this until you pointed it out in this video but now that you pointed it out it’s super obvious that you needed the surgery.. good luck with the surgery and I’ll say a lil prayer for you..❤️🧚🏻♀️
Thank you ❤️
Were you alone, as in no SO or family member with you for thw process?
@@JulesOfWisdom irregardless? You mean regardless.
@@jelatinosa ever wonder how often the person you're doing that to has a learning disability?
Hopefully your recovery is going smoothly. Can’t wait for part 2 of your surgery video.
Yay for confirming 3mm is a lot because people hear that and don't realize how it's actually pretty big haha
Thank you :)
This is such a big step and I'm proud of your courage to commit to the struggle and overcome your fears to improve your health! Get well soon 🍀🍀🍀
Amazing, that’s great! Wishing you a easy, speedy recovery!🙏🏻😍🙏🏻
Thank you ❤️
Never heard of this type surgery before & what it all involved. Thank you for sharing. Speedy recovery xoxo
I only knew your booktube channel until this was recommended to me! sending you lots of love and can't wait for you to be back
Awww bless your heart.
Can’t wait for part 2, wishing u a speedy recovery!!
What a journey it must have been. Best wishes for a smooth and speedy recovery!
I hope you are recovering well! I just also hope you still look like you!
Wow, Girl! you are BRAVE! To be honest I've been thinking about going to Korea for plastic surgery, and this video has helped a lot! Thank you!
So proud of you for going through with this. Your were beautiful before and am sure you’re beautiful now. Can’t wait to see the big reveal.
I appreciate your sharing your experience. I'm facing having to travel to get specialty care myself, so this helps me a lot.❤
I’m excited to see your new face and so that you could feel better in the future!
You’re so brave! I’m so nervous for you just watching this. I love that you were able to get the help that you needed. 💕
Yup form follows fonction! Some people just don't want to understand lol
Ahhh I can’t wait to see part two hope you’re feeling a little better 😊
Koreans are awesome!
Edit: I have also had plastic surgery to correct asymmetry, though my results were not as good as yours - but also not nearly as big of a surgery. My recovery was extremely painful despite max pain meds for 3wks & I am also a wuss who was terrified before! Despite not getting the full results I wanted, I appreciate the minor improvement. I'm not sure I would do it again (to try for better results), though! If I do, I will go to Korea for the op. Thanks for sharing, from another person who grew asymmetrically!
