  • @MFEGoingDeep it had been a while since I had been up to Moosehead and have been wanting to get back up there to have a look around. One of my favorite places! I made my way from the boat launch at Rockwood across to Kineo Cove and made a series of quick dives starting there and making my way back. The first part of the video was almost directly in the middle between the two places, I had noticed an anomaly on my fishfinder that looked to be potentially a large object or just something that was different about that particular spot. I had found it again on the way back over and dropped the drone down for a look. This is where the encounter happened with the big Cusk. What was neat here was the solid substrate on the bottom, it almost looked to me like solid clay, something that had been worn down over time. It didn’t have the look of any typical rock outcroppings that I’ve seen to date. If you look closely it also looked to have holes which made me wonder if there were some springs in this location. Thought it was a neat place to find.
I then spent some time recovering a few items, the first light colored bottle was a stoneware ginger beer bottle dating back sometime to the late 1800’s so a cool find there! Of course the polar tip up ice fishing trap and a few more old bottles to finish up the day. Will definitely spend some more time here and see what other interesting things we can find!
If you haven’t subscribed to the channel yet I would greatly appreciate your support and as always thanks for watching! 👍🐟

What a beautiful view of Moosehead Lake from the top of Mt. Kineo. I’m glad we made the trip when we were able to.

Thanks for the vid. I love freediving these areas. I think we would all love to see some more shots of the drone and what you haul up afterwards. I like following the cliff faces down as deep as i can go!

Great work "Cleaning Up"! Loved the video. I was a bit surprised that the drone could pull up the tip up fishing trap.

Thanks! The tip up was actually fairly light. Some of the glass bottles full of mud and stuff can be more challenging for it to move and is about the max for weight.

Would be fun to see the bottles all cleaned up at the end - just a photo or two.

Definitely! The thought occurred to me after the fact too 🤦‍♂️ I’ll do something like that moving forward. Thanks!

I believe the fish was a burbot. It's cousins is fished commercially about 100 miles east of this lake. Those would be members of the codfish family.

Thanks! It is a gorgeous area and it is sad to see some of the stuff left in there but we can certainly learn from those mistakes moving forward and clean up as we can!

Neat. The stoneware was quite a find. Seeing the tip-up makes me wonder what happened to the ice fisherman. Nice to see all those minnows. Given how Moosehead was also used for logging(maybe not so much), I would have expected to see a lot more human cut logs on the bottom.
Does your drone record depth & water temperature at depth. I am no longer able to fish, but that data would likely be very much of interest to any fisherman/fisherwoman or anyone interested in aquatic life.

I was pretty happy with the stoneware find as well as some of the other bottles were fairly old. At the very least it cleans up the lakes some! That’s the second ice trap I’ve seen in that area, I suppose could’ve froze in or maybe hit by a passing snowmobile hard to say. I think at one time there was some salvaging of logs from the lake for some kind of special building project(s) I don’t have much for details but I recall a diver I had spoken to talking about assisting with that. If you look in the top left corner of the videos you’ll see the depth and temperature displayed. I just recently over the last couple videos was able to get the temp up there but you’ll see the depth at least in most of the older videos.

Nice! It’s a lot of fun for sure! I had a few people mention showing the bottles cleaned up afterwards so I’ve been doing that as I’ve been getting them now.

I notice that too from time to time. I think it’s mostly the lighting underwater on some of the lighter colored rocks but definitely would be cool to find!
