i think cams should be deactivated when they call in their location whenever they need to go to the restroom but have to clock back the cam when they are done. Everything needs to be documented because these cops nowadays become cops to abuse their position of power to harm others.

Cops shouldn’t have the ability to turn body cams on or off.
There's no reason that their camera should ever be off except during break, restroom and end of shift. Where I worked there was a surveillance camera with audio on me for everything I said and did. Their job and accountability is much more important than it was for my job.
We are working on making it law. Write your representative to demand this from police.

@kevinscudder5058 incorrect, spy cams can last up to 50 hours with aa battery's, at roughly 410-510 quality, don't know the exact but clear enough to use as security cams, a bodycam could 100% hold a larger battery compartment plus be rechargeable giving it more live time, they could easily make ones that last days without shutting off, they just dislike clarity
There's a good reason for that. And it is because they don't want the public to find out how many psychopaths actually work for the department. Any department that allows it's officers to disable their body-cams while on a crime-scene... should face consequences up to and including the officers being terminated.

All cops need to wear body cams for their entire shift that can't be turned off. Also they need handgun cam attachments that automatically record as soon as they are pulled from its holster (they have this tech today and provide better views that are not blocked by a cops arms). I would also say police cars need 360 degree and interior cams.

Cops should announce when they are going to the bathroom 🚽 and say the time and the place where they go, and then turn the camera off. Then turn the camera on before they exit the premises in which they have used the bathroom as well as stating the time of day and repeat again where they said they are exiting from.

This is true. Got in trouble with the police about a year and a half ago. Used up every possible way to postpone the case till i got the footage. Even had a lawyer. Never got the footage even to this day.
What i learned is to film my damn self.
I'm from Uruguay and even i know that the dash cams are off until the lights of the patrol turn on, they do not turn on the lights that's why there is not record. Every officer who turn the camera off should be fired for attempt to Cover-up.
The footage is not "missing", its just too disturbing for the public to view.

If you think this was intentionally done, you’re incredibly naïve. She showed up after they all decided to turn their cameras off. When they show up, they’re suppose to turn them on. If she was there the same time with the rest of them, it would’ve been turned off.

It would be an invasion of privacy when the use the restroom. What they need is to call it in and say it's going of and the reason why. That way it will be documented with a time stamp.

@samwdavis That's called 'blaming the victim'. As the poster above me replying to you sarcastically implied, that kid had every expectation of NOT being treated fairly. He was, afterall, driving an atv while black, too. Even a black police officer still had no sympathy for Damon when it was explained to him that the victim was just 15 years old.
It's not only about teaching our children what to do (and I do not mean 'complying', I mean 'thinking'), it's about training the police HOW to do their jobs , and while we're at it, train them to Think.

His department was rather shady from the stories he had told and voluntarily stepped down after going to court against his own department. They were bullying and threatening, even though what he did was the right thing. I don't know the full details but they could not fire him, however, they could and did make his life miserable.
