The fact that this interview now needs a part 2 to capture the last 20 years of her career is astounding. Queen Jean!

I’m really loving the interview style of Lee Garlington. Her tone, her approach, her laughs, so personable, not a hint of sucking up or being patronising.

I'm a lifelong fan of Jean Smart, but I'm also a SAG/AEA actor. I live in NYC and have auditioned many times for several of the theater companies she mentioned. Now there's 1000 people at each of these auditions. Also, now you need an agent/manager to get an understudy job or to replace someone. I'm gathering from this interview that these theater companies were all brand new at that time. I think the landscape was very different. Also, now if yr an actor, they wanna make sure u have a day job, b/c many professional plays might be 2 performances per week.

And now she's in her 70's in one of the most socially conscious series of our time with an abundant fan base of people in their 20's and 30's. I really hope this trend continues with other actors who are 40 and over. That man was so true when he said that older women are more interesting and desirable!
