Her career is so wild. I can't believe how many iconic roles she's had.
They didn't even mention her early roles in Interview with the Vampire (1994) and Jumanji (1995).
They mentioned interview w a vampire
@@lucone2937you clearly didn’t watch the full video
All great rolls.
@@lucone2937 Ikr? I don't even know these other movies they mentioned, besides Civil War
It's SO refreshing to see a child star who grew up to be a normal, functional adult, still acting, so naturally talented, NOT a nepo baby, totally unproblematic, just a normal person with a good head on her shoulders who happens to be a famous actress. And to top it off she's talented and she makes great film choices. She's a rare gem in a town like Hollywood. If more actors were like her, people wouldn't hate celebrities so much.
she stayed in a house with her mum when filming......imo contributes towards her being normal and functional! all these messed up kids usually have parents that let them go off and do whatever with whoever 😔
i think it‘s because she did serious movies for the most part so she was also respected more
She said it, she was protected during interview with the vampire… its a testament to her parents doing it right and having standards and controls in place for her
It sounds like she also got lucky enough to work on sets that were not toxic, dysfunctional, or predatory. If only every child (and actor in general) had those same supportive experiences.
So...Drew Barrymore, Macauley Culkin, Brooke Shields, Corey Haim etc - if they only had the right attitude...? It has more to do with the attitude of those around them. The entertainment industry can a dangerous place for kids!
She doesn't get enough credit for helping define the early 2000s with some of the movies she was in
She is my 2000s muse
yes she's a pop culture icon
It's really nice to hear that Kirsten wasn't exposed to inappropriate ideas unnecessarily while filming Interview. What a fantastic careers. We are lucky to have had her talent.
Was thinking the same thing. If only all child actors were protected that way.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@allisonchainz82lol the parents are to blame.
The same thing can be said about average kids as well.
Anyone else thinking Spider Gwen variant?
she was exploited to be viewed in a sexual way as a child tho, so is it really that nice?
"Your brother can't find his toy and you know where it is but you won't tell him" is absolutely brilliant actor coaching
Who’ else remembers her in jumanji
And Small Soldiers.
Such a good movie too.
And Mona Lisa Smile
First time I saw 👀 her back in Abuja Nigeria 🇳🇬 in 🏫 1995😅
The first film I would've seen her in and I didn't even realise it was her, can't believe they skipped it. Was the only film I came here to see her talk about.
The biggest difference between her and other child stars I noticed, is a pattern of her being VERY protected by cast, crew, and her mother. It takes a village they do say and she was lucky to be surrounded by great people not just professionally but personally as well.
I remember Taylor swift saying her mom was with her every step of the way. Her dad too when he was able to be. But yeah obviously having parental oversight is sooooo important
the fact she never got plastic surgery or her teeth done makes me like her more
Same ❤❤❤
That's what makes her unique
She's truly a natural beauty and it's refreshing, not even a bit of lip filler. Her small lips fit her face perfectly. Compared to all the other aging stars, she's unique and has aged so gracefully.
@@Emidoki Exactly Kirsten is classy
Same
Like Jodi Foster, she's the rare child actor whose life didn't fall apart.
Christian Bale too & he was in “Little women” with Kirstin😊
Natalie Portman!
We don't really know who these people are behind closed doors.
Diane Lane
Joseph Gordon Levitt
Scarlett Johansson
Cynthia Nixon
There are actually some really good ones who made it somehow.
Winona Ryder and Drew Barrymore also come to mind…
Kirsten Dunst is criminally underrated. She can do literally any genre and any role. Give her her flowers, and she needs an oscar.
She is literally so charming and has such an iconic catalogue
.
Facts! Massive respect
The upside down kiss is memorable and iconic
I love how her voice has matured. She sounds so different now
Her deeper voice is from smoking.
Are you joking? She has a smoker's voice, which is a sad thing. Next stop - Lucille Ball voice, if she doesn't quit. I read she had quit, so I hope so. That being said, I think she's a great actress and she's been in a ton of hits. You don't usually keep getting work if you're not good at your craft. She also seems like a lovely person, from this interview, and I hope to see her in many more quality films.
@@kennethgordon7900 she must smoke a LOT --- her voice is like major raspy now
A lot of actors project a different voice when acting. Elle Fanning or Anya Taylor Joy for example. When they speak normal, they are nothing like the characters they play.
@@anthonyforg6867actors and actresses*
Bless her heart. Life gave her Plemons, and she made Plemonade.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAAHA
Weird way to find out that Kirsten Dunst is married to Jesse Plemons but ah well. :)
yes. yessssss goood. 😂
lol very funny sir
👏👏😂💕🍋💕🍋💕🍋💕🍋💕🍋💕🍋💕🍋
The way she comes across in this interview is so relaxed and natural. I feel like we're two parents at our kids' baseball game and we're sitting in the stands talking about work and she just happens to have an exponentially more interesting job than me.
I'm glad to hear she was protected when she was little
She was overlooked for so long, even with that incredible filmography under her belt. I have a feeling she's now finally entering a period, post-ingenue, where she'll be getting her proper dues.
how was she overlooked? she's consistently acted since childhood and has been able to choose the projects she wants. overlooked by who?
@@TMV420 I know awards are not important if the movie connects with an audience, but only one Oscar nomination? And being known as Mary Jane for so long with that many impecable performances even as a child? I usted to think some actors deserved more. I'm tired of these new faces EVERYWHERE when people like her seem overlooked. But then I understood that some actors love the craft and aren't as mediatic, that's why we don't hear about them so often, they aren't craving attention. Good for them for not playing the Hollywood game
She’s never had a single Oscars. She should’ve gotten it for the Sam Raimi Trilogy and Power Of The Dog
I hope so. She is one of the most versatile actors around. I hope she gets an oscar worthy role soon and gets her flowers!
Hollywood keeps striking out on finding a new generation of stars that they can’t help but revisit people who should have been bigger anyway.
With that said, I think Kirsten was pretty big and not as overlooked as you said, because she was in EVERYTHING which kinda proves how untrue that is.
Ah I wish Jumanji was mentioned, would've been interesting to know her experience working with Robin Williams.
ruclips.net/video/SOzoNKWrsKU/видео.htmlsi=IRwnNcHyVh1QkYt8
she spoke about him/that film in another recent interview. she said great things about him, of course.
It's a crime that she didn't win an Oscar for 'Melancholia'; it's one of the most impactful performances in cinema.
Absolutely agree. Her performance in Melancholia is unbelievable.
Yes!
‘This food tastes like ash..!!!’ 💔
Yes !
It is absolutely my favorite Lars Von Trier film. SO GOOD.
I would die to see Tobey and Kirsten acting together again 😭
All MJs and their spidies
@@Anonymouseduck Why did I picture a multiverse movie? I don't even watch that type of movies lol
@@CrisOnTheInternet what type of movies? Adventure? Horror? Mistery? Spy thrillers? Space opera? I'm tired of people thinking superhero is a genre only because it's connected with comics when those type of movies have more diversity in subjects, castings, actors and stories than most films.
@@youredelicious9945 but that's literally the name of the genre "superhero" and that doesn't mean that they have to come from a comic. Genre and topics developed in a movie are different things, I didn't even implied anything negative, just that those movies aren't the ones I watch.
saaame
Kirsten’s performance as Mary Jane Watson to this day remains phenomenal.
The writers werent kind to her though. She comes off as very selfish.
@@frankknudsen8803LMAO WHAT? If anything Peter Parker is the one who comes across as borderline bipolar and unreliable (if you view it from anyone else’s perspective) constantly playing with her feelings every time he gets.
@@ZodsSnappedNeck its a mix of both, obviously the writers wrote her a bit one dimensionally throughout the series, she basically hopped from Flash to Harry to Peter to John to Peter then back to Harry then back to Peter again. But yeah aside from us the audience knowing that Peter is Spiderman i can definitely see his character coming off as unreliable.
@@isaiahnunez7319Yeah because she was raised by an abusive father… Her character had more depth than any of the other Spider-Man lovers
@@ZodsSnappedNeckPeter made it clear to her he didn’t want a relationship with her, and then she kept flirting with him at the beginning of spider man 2, and after she’s like “oh yeh I have a boyfriend now too lol” and she gets engaged to him just to make Peter Jealous, she didn’t even want to marry him. She also made her boyfriend kiss her in the upside down position to compare it to kissing spider man 😂😂😂
Her IMDb credits are ICONIC! She has incredible range and taste in choosing which projects to work on
Kirsten and Natalie Portman has the most amazing career in cinema industry, they just not only brilliant and so talented, but also having a great emotional contention is mostly the key to success
I had the biggest crush on both of them!!!
And what an impressive filmography both of them had built over the years!
Kirsten Dunst deserves the best scripts.
Props to Kirsten’s family and team for protecting her at such a young age!
Love how shes not only very talented with her craft BUT also has remained very humble throughout her career.
“Marie Antoinette” is one of my top movies. I never tire of it.
I totally love Norma Shearer 1938 Marie Antoinette. Norma, in fact, got the Best Actress Oscar nomination, whereas Dunst did not for hers.
Never seen it. Good to know!
Me too! The dialogue is minimal but everything is so beautiful and the music is so good
@@Garsons-oq4lhThere's no need to mention that. Sheeesh.
One of my favorite soundtracks for sure.
I can't believe she didn't talk about Toy soldiers , does she not realize how iconic she was for 8 year old me 😭 I love her forever
Or jumanji 😖
I was gonna post this. Toy Soldiers is a very underrated film. I love it and what an all star cast.
I always liked Kirsten, but I never thought she was this cool as a person, she seems really down to earth.
she’s so iconic in everything she’s been in, the career she’s had is unmatched.
Melancholia is one of the most intimate, operatic films ever made. Just incredibly emotional and smart, big and small. Trier peak, Dunst's performance is one for the ages.
Same it's tie for a top tier for me, The Crow is one as well❤@kieranselick
@@kahldrialeighsun1208 I haven't seen the crow. I will have to check it out thank you
I wanted to like it, I just couldn't get into it!
I remember looking up if she had depression because her acting was so good
I love that movie so much
I could listen to her talk about acting for hours. She is so sensitive, considered and insightful, and clearly takes such pride in her work. Like many people here, I feel like I've grown up watching her on film and I will basically watch anything she ever does. A true actor and a brilliant professional. Thank you for all of your incredible storytelling Kirsten!
How could Jumanji not be included in here!?
It isn’t!?! I haven’t finished it yet and I was looking forward to it 😢
she’s absolutely incredible. I love her in every role I’ve seen her in-especially Drop Dead Gorgeous.
Such an underrated movie and performance!
I have found my people in this comment! Favourite film of hers and DEFINITELY underrated!!
Thank you for acknowledging Drop Dead Gorgeous but that segment alone should've been 29 min lol
Agreed!
or cut...to talk about Jumanji or Small Soldiers
Yes! I was so glad to see it included, love that movie so much!!
DDG is criminally underrated
Yes!! DDG is a cult classic!
She is so amazing in "Interview With The Vampire"! At such a young age, she was incredible! Gave a very intense performance. Happy to see how well she was treated on that set!
How not to love Kiki? Seriously, she's A+ in every department. It feels special to have someone like her around.
I grew up on Kirsten’s movies and have followed her entire career. So many great films and so many great performances. Her body of work really runs the gamut and is evidence of how versatile and talented she is.
I love her. Such an underrated actor.
I have idolised Kirsten Dunst for twenty years and I could not love her as an actor more if I tried. She’s so wonderful.
Kirsten saying "Not" is the most 90's thing I've heard since Nirvana. It's a small role but Eternal Sunshine is a favorite movie of mine.
It's a small but a big role. I love that movie!
The lack of Jumanji is alarming. Loved that movie.
Yes! Where’s Jumanji?
She was so amazing in Melancholia, i can't get over this movie it was life changing for me
I just didn't get it ugh
@chelsear112 the main point of that movie is to make you feel the feeling of melancholia and depression. This understanding actually made it so much better second time I watched it actually understand and make a note of how it makes you feel.
Her and Winona Ryder are two of my favorite actresses....so many amazing movies between the two of them
Omg yes!i am 42 and i grew up with them!love them!
@@annagarcia1527 i am 40...same ❤
Same! And Claire Danes!
same! 🥹🥹 & they were both amazing in little women (the best version)
She's one of the greats, and this interview was such a treat. She doesn't get the recognition she deserves!
5:00 Why does this make me feel like she's definitely going to be in a future Spider-Man crossover in the MCU
I mean who wouldn't? Even Natalie Portman returned to Thor movies after she said that was going to be her last comic book film lol
Spider-Man 4 💙❤
Kirsten body of work is UNBELIEVABLE
Yes! I feel like nobody ever asks her about Drop Dead Gorgeous. I miss seeing her in comedies, but she's always great.
Her being in Interview, Little Women and Jumanji marked my teenage years, she's incredible. I love how she can do an understated drama, weird concept movies, teenage comedies and action films, she's has an incredible range and feels like a different person in every role, and starting so young!
I've followed her career my entire life. I will watch anything and everything she does. Kirsten Dunst NEVER misses.
I agree 👍 ❤
She played a big part of my childhood from Jumanji,Small Soliders,Tower Of Terror and Spiderman.
One of my favourite actresses.
yesss small soldiers, thats when i fell in love with her
And bring it on.
I saw Kirsten in Phoenix years ago. I actually recognized her Mom & opened the door for her, looked at the car she went to, & Kirsten was driving. The TV gives her absolutely no justice - she is the most beautiful person I've ever seen. I am so happy to see her in any movie because she is so talented.
What a shame they skipped on 'On Becoming a God in Central Florida', such an underrated Kirsten role!
I was so disappointed it didn't get another season, she was absolutely perfect in that role
👌🏾👌🏾🎯
One of the best modern filmographies. The Coppola films, Melancholia, Spiderman, the best season of Fargo and her recent films. Always something interesting going on.
She’s so humble! I love her
She’s soooo pretty
genuinely one of the best actors working.. and she is so humble and gracious and kind.
I wish they included Crazy/Beautiful. Kirsten and Jay Hernandez are excellent in it.
The way she talked about the people she worked with, it's so BEAUTIFUL!
Her performance in melancholia is so overlooked. She deserves at least an Oscar nomination for that. Also, crazy beautiful was so underrated
Bro I just realized that she might be my favourite actress.
Every movie she’s in I love love
I am so glad she never gave up acting. Even when she was very depressed. I can’t even begin to choose my favourite role by her. They’re all so magical! 🪄
Seriously the best career in Hollywood. Iconic role after iconic role. She’s been a fave of mine since…forever.
I love the way she talks about all of her projects, it makes me want to go back and rewatch everything she’s done. A true artist of her craft ❤
Happy to see Fargo included here. She's a big part of one of the best seasons of TV ever made imo
I'm not sure kirsten dunst knows how much the worlds audience will always love her❤
I never realized how many roles I’ve seen with her! This interview was amazing I am so glad to hear she loved playing Peggy!
why does noone ever mention small soldiers that movie is so iconic
omg she's so smart and talented
Great films, I’m so glad these last few years people have given her more recognition, especially her Coppola work. Also thank you GQ for including my favorite mockumentary, drop dead gorgeous!
Kirsten Dunst is so beautiful I love her so much
She has been and always be THAT girl.
She is so GORGEOUS
I could listen to her talk about anything. She is an extraordinary person. Love this!
i love how she seems so proud of her roles. shes very down to earth
A phenomenal career and a brilliant actor. Forever and eternally the coolest woman
I’m just realizing how well Kirsten portrays Minnesotan vocally.
Her and Frances McDormand need to do a film together.
Her character in Eternal Sunshine broke my heart!!! Great actress!!!!
Man her career is so varied it’s crazy. Also I love how she will mention other movies she also starred in casually as she’s describing one of her roles (as if just in case they don’t feature that role of hers in the video lol)
Kirsten is such an underrated actress. Her talent is huge and easily on a par with other actors who have won awards in recent years.
I appreciate that she never changed her teeth or made any drastic changes in her appearance. She stayed her true self so far.
She is so cool! I love her! One of my favorite childhood actresses. Interview with the vampire would not be the same without her.
The most normal, down to earth actor. Watching her here, makes me realize how few interviews I've seen of hers.
'Interview' really was one of the best child actor performances ever.
She was amazing in Interview with the vampire ❤
Glad to see all the love in the comments for Drop Dead Gorgeous, one of my favorite movies ever. Kirsten is always great though, anything she is in is quality.
Me too! I’m so irritated that it’s literally scrubbed from all streaming platforms as of right now, it’s one of my favorites. Might have to get it on DVD.
MOST UNDERRATED ACTOR EVER
I love hearing her talk about her career… She remembers so much and explains it so well
Kirsten Dunst is the ultimate girl icon 💕 i am 32 now, and she's just been in my life for two decades. i LOVE her. she will never know how much she means to me, and the roles she chose and the movies she's in. just icon after icon. they forgot to show "mona lisa smile" and that's also one of my fave kirsten roles 🌺

this is rly special, one of my favorite actresses, so cool to hear her experience behind all these iconic roles
SO many wonderful roles. She is only a year younger than me, so I felt like ive grown up with her through film.
What an icon! I didn’t realize just how many amazing roles she’s had.
I don't think younger generations will ever understand how much of a cultural moment that "Spiderman kiss" was for us Millennial kids. We all wanted to replicate that kiss with our crushes. Simply iconic.
So true! And some of us did 😉 …it will forever be an iconic movie moment
She’s so iconic. Literally phenomenal in every genre she’s in😊😊😊😊😊
She is everything. Kirsten, please direct a movie❤❤❤❤
She is truly one of the best of Hollywood and deserves her flowers.
I love how self-possessed she is 😊 she really seems comfortable with who she is and the choices she’s made in her career. And i honestly forgot how many great films she’s made :)
On a side note, Drop Dead Gorgeous is hilarious. It kind of flys under the radar, so if you haven’t seen in, I highly recommend it 😄
What a wonderful and thoughtful piece! She's incredibly engaging to watch and listen to. Glad to see her getting props where props are due!
Just awesome. Thanks for all your great performances, Kirsten.
She’s such an underrated actor. Been in so many good movies.
Kirsten has become a very polite and classy lady, who looks back fondly on her many career highlights with good humour.
