Hi Riley, I am an old drag racer that has a '17 hell charger (I am 65 year old) . On stock tires at 2500 ft above sea level (the stock perrillies summers like yours) I turned a 4.0 (still on my recorder) on the street. My Trick? Use street suspension like you did for a little bit of weight transfer. BUT at the stop, put the trans into mann, use the paddle to shift it into 2nd before starting, yes start in 2nd. As soon as you come out of the hole, shift to auto b/c it can react quicker than you can (as you showed in one of your old videos with your charger) and then let it eat! You won't get the wheel hop you are getting either. Every hop slows the time downI just installed the Auttro 295/40/20s on the rear and now back at home in FL at sea level so will be going out soon for more 0 to 60s
Joe Henry Joe you don't need to put it in full manual then shift back ...just come to a stop and left paddle to 1st then right paddle to 2nd and go it will then shift the next gear on its own at max rpm it can ..Also another trick with A8 Hellcat is roll any speed and hold that speed - say 40mph in auto mode then hold the Left paddle the car will go down to the lowest gear it sees fit - let go of paddle and just mash the pedal it will again go through the gear box and won't short shift either its roll race mode
If you ever get advice from "an old drag racer", listen to him. They know tips and tricks that have been forgotten along the way and can give you an edge.
@Jose Carranza Polio Not much difference . Challenger set up just like a Charger is probably only a 1/10 or 2 different. They both are great. My Hellcat Charger ran 10.80s on drag pack with 2.9 0-60 at the strip.
With the same Mickey Thompson tire you have; I did a 2.9 zero to sixty in my 2016 Challenger Hellcat A8. Lower the air pressure to 14.5 lbs, and hold on!!
Hey Riley! Get the continental Extreme contact sports. Drag radials are good for the track with their bad in rain, bad in cornering and most times loud and uncomfortable. I like the extreme contact sports as they are wicked good in dry weather as well as wet! They also corner and handle amazing and have a top speed rating of 188! Love the wrap bro!
I have the older DWs and is it just me or do those tires have super soft sidewalls? It makes the car feel like the car is rolling. They do have amazing grip in wet and dry and were way cheaper than Michelin Pilot SS at least for 19s.
I love the drag setup. One thing you need that would almost make that car complete is a damn high performance cam and also you need to add Flowmaster 40 series and H pipes. Those three options would make that car scream like a 60s muscle car
Great Video. Less of a heater on the DR's, Mickey Thompson recommends a minimal burnout. Other than that, ever hear of MASKING TAPE? Saves most of the rubber cleanup after.
I think with any rwd/fwd gas powered cars with 400whp that drag radials are essential. I prefer nitto 555r’s as they last a lot longer, and can be driven in the rain.
Fwd you are probably right, in my m6 v10 I have around 600hp or 500whp and I still don't think I need drag tires. I think 600whp for rwd is good for a drag setup.
Lol yeah it's crazy that they come stock with 275s, and is the first thing that I would changeout if I ever got a cat. The 295s that I have on my challenger SRT8 are bad enough as it is, and is hard to control
@@jfresher925 no, they fit great and am getting ready to purchase a set of MT 315 drag radials. Which I've heard works without a spacer as well, but will make sure before I actually place the order
@@lovethesmellofracefuelinth7374 ok thanks for responding back i just ordered some 275s nitto nt555 for the rear and im thinking about going a lil bigger in the future right now i have the stock 245s

Its not just about having 400+ hp if you're blowing through your tires on your launch then radials or sticky tires are gonna help. I make 220hp and 250tq at the wheels but my car weighs 2700lbs so it blows the tires off all of first gear and into 2nd.
Honestly, tires are the most important mod in any vehicle whether it’s drifting, drag, rally etc. tires are sooooo important I cannot express this enough.
Riley check out Road Warrior paint protection for your lower rear area. Roll it on, let it dry, all the rubber sticks to it, not your paint, get it wet, peel it off, your done.
RP Productions lol gotcha. It sounds like im going to eventually need another set of wheels for the rear And swap them when needed. I just wish i could find a matching set of my existing wheels but that will be tough. My other option is to just throw on the drag radials in the spring since i don't need to drive the car when it rains. Congrats on your success on your channel man. Im sure you will hit 100k before you know it. If you have any tips or advice on how i can grow my channel faster let me know. Thanks man
Thanks for posting this. I have been going back and forth on whether or not to get DRs. I was able to manage 4.3 seconds on my Conti Extreme Contact Sports with no burnout but I am running 315/35 20s on 10.5 inch wheels in the back on my Charger. Although instead of going the DR route I'm now contemplating getting a setup of straight slicks for the track on 18s. Decisions decisions.
you said you were going to keep everything the same. Did you do a burnout with the stock radials on? Or did you just use the heat from the drive to the spot?
I’m just got new tires 275 40 20 with perllis and I having a balance issue Rn when I drive over 50 it shakes I’m just mad Rn that I have to go check it out I have 275 all around too on a RT charger 2021

People really underestimate the importance of tires. I see guys running crazy engines and big brake kits but the cheapest tires they could find at tirerack in their size...
NEVER get caught in the rain with those MTs! I was in a light drizzle going 40 mph and not accelerating whatsoever. My mustang completely 360° into the ditch . The MTs hook great for track use but for dual purpose street use , the nitto 555 DR's which will be safe in a rain and still hook well on the track and street.
Get the JLT splash shields! They'll protect the body from all that tire mess. I got em on my Daytona 392 and work like a champ! No crap on my car when I do a burnout or track days. Great vid btw, def gonna get that DR combo for next season.
As a muscle noob what needs to be done in order to fit the larger 305 on the rear? Obviously new set of wheels and the tires but is anything else needed or are these kind of "plug and play"? I am just curious!
I have a 16 mustang gt , an intake , Bigger throttle body and a tune , would it be worth to spend the extra money on some nittos nt555r or just get some less expensive street tires
Great results. very cool indeed. also love the new black wheels for the drag radials much better. looks so cool with your cool wrap and white body.😎👍 maybe get a pair to match for front now.😎

My Mustang does 4.6 on a perfect launch with 100% grip on my Michelin Pilot SuperSports. Just goes to show how much quicker a Hellcat is than a basic Mustang GT...
What do you think about a decent size for a 550i gt bmw? I have a very similar 0-60 as you but I can not run smaller than 20” wheel due to the brakes. Currently have Pirelli 275/35/20 RF’s not ideal obviously with the stiffer run flat side walls however it is my daily w/o a spare. So with that being said, how much taller should my drag radial be? This test should have been done with tires the same size. Of course going from a 275 to a 305 in of itself should be better. If you're trying to confirm whether a drag radial is better, you should be comparing it to the same size summer tire you're using. Otherwise decent test.
