- Out of all the video games out there, Gran Turismo isn't really associated with easter eggs. They're more synonymous with series like Grand Theft Auto. However, over the years, GT's creators have given us a few little easter eggs which haven't really had the coverage online that they probably warrant.
Oddheader and I have teamed up to bring you 20 of the best easter eggs and secrets that the Gran Turismo series has given us over the years!

Additions / Clarifications:
Hi all. Thank you for the amazing response to this video, and thanks to everyone who submitted new easter eggs for me to check out. Part 2 is already in the works.
Firstly, just to clarify that the narrator of the video is Oddheader. He's a great guy, awesome to work with, and is very knowledgeable about video games and easter eggs. However, he's not a big fan of racing in real life, so he didn't know how to pronounce all the names, e.g. Benetton. Also, some words are said in his regional dialect and accent, so might sound a bit different to how you say the same words. Also, I think we'd all struggle to pronounce some of the Japanese names in this video. Cut him some slack. :)
1. It has been suggested that Nodoka Kinsho may in fact be a woman, not a man. However, I can't find any photos of him/her, so it's hard to say for definite. I did find this Twitter account, which is run by a man, who's an artist, but may not be the one who worked on Gran Turismo: twitter.com/qn_kp
3. To clarify, Kaz's Lancer is an Evo 5, while Tommi Makkinen's real-life Winfield Lancer is an Evo 6.
13. AutoArt actually originates from Germany, rather than Japan.
14. It has been suggested that the faces on Trial Mountain are a result of mirrored textures or Pareidolia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia). I still think it looks rather intentional to me.
19. This man's true identity is still up for debate in the GT community, it seems. Some say that it is Hideo Kojima, while others say it's more likely to be Daiki Kasho, while other names have been suggested too. It's likely we'll never know for sure unless the developer / designer who put this man in the game ever reveals who their real-life inspiration was.
dude the black versions of the 5 race cars also had a smaller horsepower output maxed out than the standart versions
@@petrospago3515 Yeah, it's likely because they have high milage due to them being used cars. You can give them an oil change to get some of those horses back though.
@@MattJ155 no even with oil change the max horsepower in the black versions is about 100 to 150hp less than the original version if you have them try it for yourself
(pasted from below) 8:08 the F688/s could be a representation of the Tyrrell 022 from 1994 - the livery is quite similar, including the green BP logo on the nose and the number 5, which was the car piloted by Ukyo Katayama-maybe the Japanese developers had fond memories of cheering him on and decided to put it in the game?
@@petrospago3515 Oil change will never fully restore your engine to working order. Unfortunately, since GT4 doesn't have an "engine rebuild" option in its auto shop, you can't get the car back to like-new condition.
RIP Primary the cat. May she forever live in Gran Turismo.
It looks like an mico-leão-dourado
Someone should make a car decal n build for her
GT Sport Primary cat livery? Oh yea... xD
Now she lives in Assetto Corsa as well.
@@KulibobCZ for real tho
The "face" at #14 isn't really much of an easter egg. This would happen unintentionally, but there's a simple explanation: A cheap way to map textures to look seamless is to flip one side over, and repeat continuously. In other words: You just found a seam of mirrored textures.
I still remeber discovering it since week 1 of GT5 release and posting all the pics on Gtplanet, most probably mirrored textures but still they seem oodly specific
Correct, it's just mirrored texture seams and a case of pareidolia.
Happens a lot in GTAV as well.
Even in GT4 there are in Amalfi... And one type is not casual 🤣 it is in "3D"
Also looks as if it has a body and arms though, even the white below looks like its wearing shorts
Awesome video Matt, our best collab yet!! Can’t wait for the next!
‘Ben etton’
lith Matt j gave me a pronunciation guide for all the brand names that I followed to a t, he even had me rerecord Benetton to what’s used in the video. If it came out wrong I wouldn’t know better, but don’t think I didn’t work my ass off getting those pronunciations right lol
@@oddheader at least now you know, huh? :D

Ugh! commoners!
lrod312 I know, imagine only have $4Q in the bank!!
Yet you have that much on GT5 until you enter and finish a race and you're at 20 mil and level 10 even with the money cap set at like 99999999999999999999
That's almost enough to purchase American health insurance.

20:10 I love easter eggs hidden on cars that can really only be spotted in photo mode, I was playing The Crew and driving the circuit spec hot rod (essentially a Morgan Aero 8 race car) and I went into photo mode and noticed the fire extinguisher said "burning ass" and had a picture of a guy running on fire, no other fire extinguishers in the game have this
Shelby427 I remember being a kid and checking if every car game had a cobra
Shelby427 also in the crew, the first can find a racer called Jericho, a reference to driver San Francisco’s main antagonist

Actually, in the making off of the series, is show that they use toy modeled cars to make the cars of the game. Maybe the artist made it too far and included even drawn the bottom of the toy car.
This! I remembered in the forums that the modeler for the mine's r34 wanted to portray the accurate underneath of the car yet he being tight deadlines and with no resources, he opted using the toy model.
Wow, that's really interesting!
hmmm
Are the black cars in the countdown a reference to the black race cars Easter eggs in gran turismo 4? 🤔🤔🤔

it does say cambergang. nice find
And that the marshal looks like zero 👀
I've played Gran Turismo for nearly 20 years and never even heard of some of these easter eggs. Great video!
Also, some other easter eggs I remember is the big tree near the turn at the end of the tunnel straight in Trial Mountain and Sonic The Hedgehog is referenced on the start line post in Fuji Speedway in GT6.
Thanks!
Dangggg 20 years. I’ve been playing 10 years only haha.
The cat easter egg is probably the most wholesome and amazing addition given in the game ^_^

Gran Turismo is the best racing game for me. I have GT racing videos (PS5) on my channel
#18 Maybe Kaz and Kojima are best friends. That's probably why GT4 had Konami banners to.
Gran Turismo almost don't care to use logos from other developers/games. On GT Sport, if you see the pits of Tsukuba, you will find the iRacing logo (also, iRacing have the Gran Turismo logo at the right of the first hairpin)
@@929roger I'm sure Hideo Kojima modeling character in Sport and Konami letting it be okay to use a banner considering Konami and Sony are close partners isn't a confidence :p
And yeah iracing banner is there I'm sure because Polyphony follows other racing game devs in Twitter which means I'm sure they talk to each other.
@@TheFurryInShambles Even ACC allows gran turismo logos, except for Forza where they cover them up or remove them 😂
@@TheFurryInShambles other brands are there just because they're actual banners on the real tracks. no affiliation between developers whatsoever, it's because of authenticity and sponsor deals conducted by the circuits, which can't be ignored when reproducing them for a videogame
Also I think the GT4 had a Sega logo on the front straight at Fuji.
I remember getting gt5 the day before Christmas and then leaving it over night to install the game data and to my surprise I woke up to it playing those Christmas jingles in the morning on Christmas day
What’s the deal with the blue tires hiding in Mount Panorama?
Good question... only thing I know is it's a another small easter egg which you can get an achievement for when you touch them
Yeah, one for me to look into I think.
As far as I know, these are painted in the same colour as the 15th anniversary cars and box and hitting them unlocks a trophy in GT6
Some strange pronunciations in this video.

You forgot the most popular one: the PlayStation 3 behind the G37 High Performance :)

that's not an easter egg, the real life car has a ps3 in it.
oh shit
@@ThreeDaysOfDan I just realized that after I commented
Oh yeahhhh I remeber that one
Very nice video! There were a couple of easter eggs I wish were on here. There were advertisements of Konami, SEGA, and in GT6, Sonic the Hedgehog.
Yea, Fuji Speedway in GT5-GT6 featured Licensing for Sega. Most noticed on the Front Straight of all modern layouts. This is because they were sponsors of the real-world Fuji Speedway (as PD aims at realism for the real-world circuits, using the most recent sponsors for that circuit).
GT5: SEGA
GT6: Sega-Sammy Group/Sonic The Hedgehog
@@VoltTackle11 The SEGA-Sammy banner is also in GT5
The SEGA-Sammy Group banner is also in GTS’s rendition of Fuji.

Ah, great timing on the video then!
You forgot the Route-X secret inner circuit easteregg! They have huge tunnels and extra banks and loops its like a F-Zero track and its nuts!
Thanks - it can be in part 2. :)
@@MattJ155 awesome! Search the GTPlanet thread "Driving Park Route-X" or something, it's a thread entirely dedicated on the secret inner track :) even some game files have been found showing the map and some screenshots of the inside of it, and it's literally F-Zero spec
More cut content than an Easter egg tbh
@@s.baldrick3807 Not sure, its kind of in a grey area
@@ZedNinetySix_ Just went and searched that- and wow! But it was found in 2014 and still not implemented?! Maybe it was a dev's test track only...
The "dark blue" truck from GT2 is a Benetton Truck, you can see the 3 colored stripes on the side.
8:08 tbh I always took the F688/s to be a representation of the Tyrrell 022 from 1994 - the livery is quite similar, including the green BP logo on the nose and the number 5, which was the car piloted by Ukyo Katayama-maybe the Japanese developers had fond memories of cheering him on and decided to put it in the game?
For #1, Seiichi Ikiuo is also credited on F687/S (parodying the "Power by Honda" logo).
Thanks! Another one for part 2 I think.
Ah yes, I still remember when I found out about those stealth cars for the first time in GT4. When I was a kid, I on one playthrough decided to just keep grinding in the Capri rally race only to spend the money I made constantly buying cars in the Used Car dealership. I got carried away and lost track of the in-game days passing by, which lead to me finding out about these cars on accident. Only to realize I didn't have enough money to buy them annoyingly. I of course learned my lesson and finally got all 4 many years later by grinding in the DTM championship. That was satisfying finally having all 4 in my garage. To note: You can also drive those stealth cars in arcade mode with a glitch involving the favorite cars option.
I also remember getting those Formula GT cars with gameshark codes during my childhood, but I never really touched them due to my lack of interest in F1. Now though, I have more of an appreciation of them after spending time learning about F1.
Anyway, I was happy to see that there were still a few easter eggs I never noticed such as Hideo Kojima in GT Sport and the wierd faces on Trial Mountain. It's a great overall list Matt, I really enjoyed it! :)
Luckily, I read about the black cars online before I'd played through too many days. I too grinded the Capri rally race. If I remember right, the prize car was the CLK-LM, which you could sell for a lot of credits.
@@MattJ155 The CLK-LM is actually won in the DTM Championship. The Capri Rally Race gives you the Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car. :)
I remember first coming across the black race cars too, but not having enough money for them.
About the night day track switch exploit, this was likely done via real time editing of the games memory so cfw is needed, but with leaps in emulation there's a process to load hidden tracks and change their settings accordingly by changing the map that is loaded allowing for a whole heap of possibilities daytime Stage route can be done
Some of those words were absolutely butchered but great video as always!
I have been a lifelong fan of this game and just had this in my suggested videos, really enjoyed it thank you, well done!
4:53 - F1 cars can go fine through the "corkscrew", that's not the problem. The unofficial record for the track is held by an F1 car so... The problems with the track is that it's both too small and too remote for an F1 event (as stated in 1989 when it was ruled out).
I don't want to say otherwise, but that audience member doesn't look like Hideo Kojima. Other than that great video!
Its Daiki Kasho actually

1:53 this is NOT a kids symbol, it's the learner symbol, the Japanese equivalent of an L plate.
It is known as the Kids prize though
Actually that's called "Shoshinsha" mark
the text says kids prize regardless, you insufferable know it all
It says "Kids Prize" in the game, hence why people call it that.
The actual Japanese term is ショシンシャ (Shoshinsha), or, in its full name, ショシンシャうんてんしゃヒョシキ (Shoshin Untensha Hyōshiki, a.k.a., Beginner Driver's Mark in a literal Japanese to English translation). Strangely enough, there does not seem to be an in-game analogue to the これいしゃ (Kōreisha) mark, which denotes elderly drivers. However, making things more confusing, the original Elderly Driver's Mark from 1997 to 2011, anyway, looks like a red and yellow-orange teardrop with a white line in the middle, a white teardrop, and a black tear drop outline, but, beginning in 2011, the symbol turned into a thick vertical infinity/8 symbol that is over a thin horizontal infinity/8 symbol that has four arced black likes, and, from clockwise, four blobs that are yellow green, green, yellow-orange, and red in form, thus forming a rough cloverleaf-like shape.
However, there are two separate handicapped stickers for Japanese drivers. The first handicapped/disabled driving symbol is a thin light gray circular line, a little thicker white circular line, a green circle, and a yellow stylized butterfly. This symbol is called a チョウコク ショウガイ (Choukoku Shougai, or literally Hearing Impaired Driver's Mark). The second one is a thin yellow-orange line, a little thicker white line, a blue circle, and four white hearts that make a cloverleaf-like shape, but is more akin to an actual cloverleaf shape, and the bottom leaf also has a white stem that trails from it in a J shape. This symbol is called a しんたいしょうがい (Shintai Shougai, or Physically Handicapped Driver's Mark), which is reserved for physically disabled drivers. However, it is also not impossible for a driver in Japan to have both the Hearing Impaired Driver's Mark and the Physically Handicapped Driver's Mark simultaneously. Curiously enough, there is no mark for mentally disabled drivers, so I am guessing that they belong to the second mark, or that Japan does not allow mentally handicapped people to drive vehicles.
Finally, in addition to the Beginner Driver's Mark, there is also another mark for people that are in driver's education vehicles and it is simply referred to as the Driver's Training Mark. This mark says, ”級ブレっきちゅうい" (literally, "Beware of Sudden Stops"), "かんめんきょう (literally, "Temporary Driver"), and "れんしゅうちゅう (literally, "Practicing"). There are also different marks that denote businesses, as well as possibly different vehicles as well. You can find out more about them on Google.

I saw this video a long time ago but it suddenly popped into my feed again possibly because of my interest in gt7 vids at this time. I'd like to add another that most don't know about. In gt sport, if you turn right before the start finish straight instead of following the track to the left, you will find a parking area in front of the Australian national motor racing museum. The museum will be to the right as you enter the area and if you position your car to look up the driveway, you will see a Nissan bluebird raced by George Fury in the mid 1980s during the Australian touring car championship. This car was a predecessor to the all conquering skyline gtrs of the early 90s. The bluebird has never been featured in any gt game but there it is, perfectly rendered for display.
