Christian Cage is easily AEW's 2023 MVP let alone their best heel. He has by far produced the best promo work, character work and some top classic matches. This man deserves way more credit than he gets. He was held back so often in his career, there were 7 years where we didn't think he'd be able to wrestle ever again and some internet trolls disrespect him on his AEW debut. I hope he gets a bigger push and has an even better year in 2024. Christian Cage has more than earned a run as the AEW World Champion. This man deserves his flowers at the very top one more time!
@@anthonyturner6399 Swerve is much younger and he could feud with Adam Page, Jon Moxley and others for a while and grow more and more before he eventually gets the world title. He has way more time to go in the ring and will definitely get that belt eventually. Christian Cage deserves a run as the AEW World Champion while still at the very top of his game. And I'd rather a Christian Cage vs MJF feud first. The promos would be all timers! But both Christian Cage and Swerve should be AEW World Champions in 2024 for sure!
Entrance of the Year was the children's choir singing Christian's entrance at Full Gear. I just about died of laughter watching it and had to replay it. Honorable mention is the Callis Family's entrance introducing the brown noise and the last Supper painting evolving as more members were added.
Christian Cage was by far my favorite part of wrestling in 2023. Hope he gets a bigger push in 2024. It would be a crime if this man doesn't get cemented forever on the list of AEW World Champions. Christian Cage deserves way more credit than he gets.
Osprey had also very memorable entrance at Wrestle Kingdom with the beautiful arrangement and returning to his iconic Elevated theme song. While Sting Metallica entrance surprised the shit out of me as a longtime fan, but the most emotions I had was when Bryan Danielson for the first time ever in AEW came out to The Final Countdown.
Great job, Tranq! I'd love to see a Biggest Surprise category that gives your pick for what caught you off-guard the most in a year. They can be positive and/or negative nominees, but i always like hearing people talk about when their expectations get messed with in interesting ways.
Either Hangman vs Swerve at Full Gear or Omega vs Osprey at Forbidden Door is my MOTY for AEW, they had some absolutely brutal spots and crazy moments like Will dropping Kenny on his neck or Hangman drinking Swerve’s blood. MJF is my wrestler of the year bangers against Danielson, Omega, Cole and that fatal 4 way at Double or Nothing was incredible. Most improved wrestle of the year is either Swerve or Julia Hart because Swerve was just in a random tag team with Keith Lee which was kinda enjoyable after they broke up Swerve just started having amazing matches, Julia was a cheerleading in Varisty Blondes and when she joined up with HOB she was on a different level and is now TBS Champion. My PPV of the year is ALL IN because it’s the biggest wrestling show ever and no one could’ve ever imagined that AEW could sell that many tickets in such a short company span.
This was an awesome rewards video. 2023 was a crazy year for AEW. While not everything was good, there was still lots of awesome moments and events, and these truly were special. I loved every PPV this year as they all delivered some of the best matches I have ever seen, and they gave me some special moments with family. Not to mention, I loved the improved character work of Swerve and Christian. Both are so much better with their current characters/gimmicks, and I can see nothing but greatness for them. Overall, there was just a lot of great stuff this year, and this video really reminded me why I enjoyed it all, despite some bad stuff from this year. I truly hope 2024 can be a great year for AEW and hopefully they’ll be able to bounce back.🙏
I think Rene deserves it too. She has been amazing with her interviews, faces and responds. She really elevated AEW backstage segments One of my favorite moments of this year was the moment were Danielson and MJF were on the floor and Danielson was laughing, enjoying himself, like he reached orgasm and heaven while MJF was whining, crying, asking for the match to stop in complete despair, misery and pain. Honestly. Doesn't matter what you picked for Match of the Year they weren't any wrong answer there. Maybe it is my bias but Swerve's promo on Hangman wins for me. Also I was surprised that Julia wasn't up for female wrestler of the year but thinking back she has only really been in focus since just before Wrestledream
Julia Hart was actually in the first draft of nominees for wrestler of the year! She did get cut though for the reason you stated. Have a feeling she’ll be a major player next year though.
Christian Cage vs Bryan Danielson on Collision was one of the very best matches of the year in any company. It doesn't get mentioned nearly enough just because it wasn't on a PPV. That match was a masterclass from start to finish.
Thank you for all the work this year brother! I would’ve picked some other options, but all your picks are super valid and you can’t really argue with it. I would’ve included some honorable Mentions to the likes of Ricky Starks (had a great year, that could’ve been better if not the Punk situation), Jamie Hyter (have been the ace of the women’s division before she got hurt in the summer) and Darby Allin (main-evented Wretledream, and had great programs with Samoa Joe and MJF among others). MJF should win wrestler of the year. His combination of matches, storytelling, promos and character have been truly elite. Bryan Danielson with a very very close second.
MJF Vs Bryan Danielson is definitely my match of the year. Being there live is a night I’ll never forget. The whole crowd was on their feet during the entire Sudden Death part of the match
Love it. It should be a yearly ceremony. Maybe add a Most Improved Category, something to celebrate The Gunns or Swerve (not that they were not good, but this year they went higher than ever)

Even though he probably wouldn't have won anyway, I was a little bit surprised that you didn't include Orange Cassidy as a nominee for Male Wrestler of the Year, considering how well his first run with the International Title was received. Besides that, this was a really good list and some pretty great winners chosen!
maybe something like the Best Wrestling Sequence of the year? There are a lot of moments in AEW matches where a good wrestling sequence makes me chant "AEW", "Fight Forever" or "This is awesome". We need more of these awards in the future for sure!
I like this! One suggestion for an award could be something for the best return from injury? Some wrestlers struggle to find their footing once they are cleared to compete again or their new creative kinda sucks. It would be interesting to look back and think who had to best return after an extended leave. My first thought is Adam Cole, started kinda crap with Jericho but then to run the MJF angle and headline All In? What a comeback
Shout out to the guy who recommended this on the Live Stream. This was a great video and I can tell that you had a hard time choosing the winner. See you on the Live Stream later tonight Tranquilo.
I liked your choices. I enjoyed AEW until April imo. I tried going back to the product but it was mess after that. Punk kinda held it together with Collision in the summer. All in was a great moment. They had a problem with consistency this year that bothered me. It’s going to take something big to get my attention.
I just rewatched Punk's promo on Collision and it made me realize, Punk really hasn't changed, at all. From his Pipebomb promo in 2011 to now, he really has been all about business. He saw Vince tripping over pennies instead of just reading the room and capitalizing on the obvious. "A millionaire who should be a billionaire" Honestly, that one promo became a blueprint for where professional wrestling is today. Omega vs Ospreay from Wrestle Kingdom was MOTY for me. It felt real. Ospreay talking about having to self isolate and watch his friend's funeral over video all out of loyalty to New Japan was 100% a shoot, and it made Omega look like the "cunt" Ospreay called him for coming back and being given such a high profile match. The match itself was fire. Hard hitting NJPW style is best style. It's good to see Omega could still go like that after taking it easy in AEW for a few years. I feel like an honourable mention should go to Yota Tsuji vs SANADA. This is Tsuji's return from excursion and holy crap had he ever stepped up. NJPW building a strong future with him right there. I went into it skeptical and by the end I was ready for them to pull a shock move and have him win the title.
Surprised not to see Orange Cassidy at least nominated for wrestler of the year, but it tells a lot about how mishandled his momentum has been since he dropped the belt at All Out, he was for sure the second best wrestler of the year in AEW at that point.
He was in the original draft for wrestle of the year. Decided to cut him very last minute. Perhaps I should have left him in. But you’re right about the momentum.
@@tranquiloclub50 TK has a really hard time capitalising on momentum, Takeshita was red hot beating Omega twice and should've been International Champ by now, The Acclaimed were mega over after All In and I'm pretty sure they still haven't defended their belts once. Hopefully he won't drop the ball with Swerve, I'm hoping a short feud with Moxley is next with Jay White winning the Triple Threat.
Great awards. I’d have most of the same nominees as you and a lot of the same winners. Punk winning best promo is crazy though. It wasn’t anything special nor memorable, other than the ‘Counterfeit Bucks’ line. It wouldn’t have made my top 20. Guess something about it struck a chord with you. I’d have given it to Hangman’s final promo with Swerve.
i definitely thought Matt Hardy was getting the Change the Channel award. He was one of two gimmicks that made me change the channel like clockwork. . .the other was Outcasts. as for Jay, people that expected hi to get pushed IMMEDIATELY didn't watch his NJPW run. It's always a slow build to him doing his thing.
My choices: Show of the year was All In. Entrance was Will Ospreay at All In. Tag Team was The Gunns Manager: Prince Nana Best Gimmick: House of Black Change the channel: Jericho Best signing: Jay White (he was only this year??), only because Will BY GOD Ospreay is disqualified until next year. Best promo: Will BY GOD Ospreay, either his WK press conference or his promo with Jericho. Feud: Any other year, it would have easily been Ospreay/Omega, but after that Death Match, Swerve v Hangman is the feud of the year. MotY: Will BY GOD Osprey vs Kenny Omega at Forbidden Door, though their WK match is a VERY close second. Female Wrestler of the Year: Ruby Soho Male Wrestler of the Year: Will BY GOD Ospreay
I agree with most of your choices. Only ones I disagree with is entrance and the Punk promo. I liked the Guns Many Men entrance, but really feel it should be in a different one off entrance category. I personally love MJF's entrance especially when he was a heel, and think if Ricky resigns with AEW his entrance is sleeper good just missing a real good title reign to hype it up. I would take any of the Christian hard hit promos over that neutered NDA Punk promo, he might not be the Devil in the storyline but he was the Devil from within sabotaging AEW every time they did anything good that windbag sucked the oxygen out of Wembley , MJF's return, the Collision momentum and Kenny Omega coming back from injury, he is a scumbag but he is def not my scumbag, he's WWE's now and he can stay there than, now and forever.
Next year you should include most improved and rookie of the year/newcomer of the year. Award for a new wrestler similar to someone like Nick Wayne, Action Andretti. Someone people wouldn’t really know
kennys one winged angel is my most epic entrance of all time. he was literally dressed as sephiroth with the symphonic theme and all. and he did some evil ass shit in that match. it was a beautiful moment
A major omission from best gimmick was Roderick Strong, he was always one of my boys but seeing him become one of the most over stars in the company really warms my heart.
My picks for these across all promotions: PPV of the Year: All In Entrance of the Year: Bad Bunny at Backlash Tag Team of the Year: KO/Sami Zayn Best Non Wrestling Personality: Prince Nana Best Gimmick: MJF/Adam Cole Bromance Change the Channel: Saraya Best Signing: Jay White Promo of the Year: Seth Rollins vs CM Punk Feud of the Year: Swerve vs Hangman Match of the Year: 4 Pillars Fatal 4 Way Male Wrestler of the Year: MJF Female Wrestler of the Year: Athena

Nana and the dancers at Full Gear for entrance of the year
i think best championship reign should be another category on the list: a reign that made the title mean something or accelerate a story etc
The Gunn entrance went hard as FXCK!!
Glad to see QT get the flowers he deserves. Can't wait for next year's video Tranq

Awesome that we convinced Tranq to do this video and he did it.
RJ City has been tremendous with his Hey Ew and what he did to tony storm.
Great list .
You should include a dark horse category, as in underrated work that flew under the radar
Christian Cage's entrance at Full Gear with the children's choir is def up there for me
MJF should win wrestler of the year. His combination of matches, storytelling, promos and character have been truly elite. Bryan Danielson with a very very close second.
Should definitely do this every year man you put alot of quality and work into your videos
They gotta push Matt Taven more. Bro carried ROH for like 3 years after the elite left
Nah he was garbage..not having lethal win at msg was the first cut leading to ROH eventually bleeding out...
MJF Vs Bryan Danielson is definitely my match of the year. Being there live is a night I’ll never forget. The whole crowd was on their feet during the entire Sudden Death part of the match

MJF vs Danielson is match of the year for me. If I was training to be a wrestler that's a match I would watch and study repeatedly.

maybe something like the Best Wrestling Sequence of the year? There are a lot of moments in AEW matches where a good wrestling sequence makes me chant "AEW", "Fight Forever" or "This is awesome". We need more of these awards in the future for sure!
Definitely continue this next year. You forgot Kenny Omega vs Mjf

Extremely insightful@@freakmagnet2737
great vid! I agree with everything except entrance. It was Sting for me.
Another major omission was the go-home promo for Hangman and Swerve’s death match, probably Hangman’s best ever promo.
Good video
Good picks 👍🏼
Hopefully he won't drop the ball with Swerve, I'm hoping a short feud with Moxley is next with Jay White winning the Triple Threat.
great video but i would've done best tv and ppv match of the year
Imagine getting booed while Tony Schiavone reading his note. Christian is very good at getting heat.
So glad you picked Bryan vs. MJF. Favorite match of all time
Great awards.
Definitely wasn’t chanting Switchblade repeatedly until you said he got the signing award
Gimmick of the year was by far the toughest decision at least for me
Biggest upset of the year category or perhaps most shocking moment category
We gonna casually call these the "Tranquies"?
i really enjoy your reasoning and self deprecating humor so yea do these yearly pls ty also tell tony to put dalton castle in dynamite thanks
Yes sir! My pick for best entrance got it!
i definitely thought Matt Hardy was getting the Change the Channel award.
He was one of two gimmicks that made me change the channel like clockwork. . .the other was Outcasts.
as for Jay, people that expected hi to get pushed IMMEDIATELY didn't watch his NJPW run.
It's always a slow build to him doing his thing.
Change the channel award nominee chris jericho? Man smh hes one of the goats
that FTR v BCG was awesome
My choices:
Show of the year was All In.
Entrance was Will Ospreay at All In.
Tag Team was The Gunns
Manager: Prince Nana
Best Gimmick: House of Black
Change the channel: Jericho
Best signing: Jay White (he was only this year??), only because Will BY GOD Ospreay is disqualified until next year.
Female Wrestler of the Year: Ruby Soho
Male Wrestler of the Year: Will BY GOD Ospreay
I'd say Julia Hart has the best entrance in all of AEW imo.
Here's comes, Father of the Year...ITS THE TNT CHAMPION!
Next year you should include most improved and rookie of the year/newcomer of the year. Award for a new wrestler similar to someone like Nick Wayne, Action Andretti. Someone people wouldn’t really know
Love the content as always, but brother no Ospreay at All In for best entrance?? That’s my choice for the year.
Remember Christian doesn’t just wear a turtleneck, he wears a sleeveless turtleneck. 😅
I thought you will put the wrestling legend RODERICK Strong in best gimmick nomination
As a day 1 subscriber, I consider myself an unofficial member of the committee.
That Many Men entrance is a top 5 of entrance of all time if we’re being honest
kennys one winged angel is my most epic entrance of all time. he was literally dressed as sephiroth with the symphonic theme and all. and he did some evil ass shit in that match. it was a beautiful moment
Do the awards every year,Faction of the year category.
A major omission from best gimmick was Roderick Strong, he was always one of my boys but seeing him become one of the most over stars in the company really warms my heart.
My picks for these across all promotions:
PPV of the Year: All In
Entrance of the Year: Bad Bunny at Backlash
Tag Team of the Year: KO/Sami Zayn
Best Non Wrestling Personality: Prince Nana
Best Gimmick: MJF/Adam Cole Bromance
Change the Channel: Saraya
Best Signing: Jay White
Promo of the Year: Seth Rollins vs CM Punk
Feud of the Year: Swerve vs Hangman
Match of the Year: 4 Pillars Fatal 4 Way
Male Wrestler of the Year: MJF
Female Wrestler of the Year: Athena
FTR merecen todo el reconocimiento que se le da, siempre ponen una buena lucha
