    Hangman vs Swerve death match was a massacre. Blood all over the ring and pouring out of both of their heads. Hangman turning into a vampire drinking Swerve’s blood was insane, Swerve stapling himself enjoying it. Probably one of the best death matches in AEW history also put Swerve in the world title scene

    I agree that the main event story was completely unnecessary and convoluted as well. They could’ve easily had MJF and Jay have a regular match with MJF winning due to Samoa Joe taking out Bullet Club Gold (thus setting up a feud between Joe and Jay White) and Adam Cole giving MJF the diamond ring to use on Jay for the win. Still loved the ppv overall though

    The PPV was really good. My biggest issue with the PPV was the MJF injury storyline. You didn't need to have Cole pretend to fight for his friend. All you needed to do was stall the main event. You could have done a backstage interview where Adam is talking to MJF and don't worry just get back to the arena when you can. When it's time for the main event, jay white comes out first, then Adam Cole comes down taking his time, maybe even slips. Cole enters the ring and does a "Who's ready for story time with Adam Cole" he retells the story of his friendship with MJF, heck you could even mention Adam Cole and jay white friendship. After 5-10 minutes. Jay says " That's enough Adam, stop stalling. The ref says if MJF isn't here in one minute, MJF forfeits the title. Then we have the ambulance coming down the ramp.... MJF enters the ring with mere seconds before the time expires.

Hangman and Swerve were match of the night, glad Julia won (very proud of her growth), Orange beating Moxley was good, and the ladder match was way better than I expected. When Hangman triumphantly reconnected with The Elite a few months back that really showed some promise for the direction of the group… but I agree, he’s now off doing his own thing entirely with Swerve and Kenny and the Bucks are just kinda treading water. Very much not the grandiose Elite Revival that it could’ve been.
    However, the group will always kinda be there for them all to rekindle whenever things get slow and the opportunity presents itself, which can be a great wild card to draw when they need it. Right now though, it’s just not The Elite’s moment

    I would have honestly been fine with the booking of the main event if they did some kind follow up with the Devil story. I feel like if they did that then all the shenanigans they did with the booking wouldn't feel like a waste.

    • @ROMANTIKILLER2
      @ROMANTIKILLER2 Год назад

      I believe that the whole overbooking that went on is a big hint that the Devil is Cole and his injury may be either completely or partially a work. In theory, had MJF not (predictably) returned right before the bell rang, Cole had managed to get himself a world title shot against an overconfident White that was mockingly laying on the mat for him.
      Maybe I'll be ultimately proven wrong, but it sounds like one of the few reasons to justify all the shenanigans.

    i dont hate your rant on the main event. similar to JD and jesse and jusalyx'stakes on it, i agree with you. the match itself was great but it was far too overbooked for my tastes. jay wasn't buried but it really didn't do him any favors.
    hopefully, max's next feuds will be a bit better and considering he's gonna be dealing with wardlow, joe and the devil, i'd say its gonna be better. not sure where jay goes. either chasing orange for his belt or competing in the CC.

    A burial would mean that Jay would not have been able to do anything meaningful in the ring. It would also mean that we'll never see him succeed again. Yes, the match was overbooked. Yes, we really should have gotten a hint on the Devil thing.
    But, I'm calling it now:
    Jay White will be cheered by all of you within a year from last Saturday.

    • @stalfos268
      @stalfos268 Год назад

      @joquanrowsey7370 Yeah, maybe it's not a "total burial" but some AEW fanboys are taking it to a defensive extreme by ignoring all the other logical gaps around it and how these ideas can make most of a roster look weak. And "just turn your brain off" doesn't work for me when that excuse for bad storytelling is why I don't watch WWE. I want an alternative, if I wanted more of the same I would watch WWE. And it seems like on ratings and live attendance, others are feeling the same. (for reference I enjoyed most of the show minus the end of the women's championship match and this overbooked mess).

  • @thegame7134
    @thegame7134 Год назад +6

    I think the MJF injury thing was unnecessary. They already had a good enough story going in. Jay White has Bullet Club, MJF has nobody. They could have at least had Joe come out and even the odds, not because he likes MJF, but because he’s protecting his title shot. It would make sense. If MJF loses the title he can’t honor Joe’s shot and Jay White more than likely wouldn’t.

  • @omriex7

    It's a fair review my man. You know, i don't think people would've been so against the main-event angle if it wasn't very similar to stuff WWE did in the Aditude Era. AEW fans aren't stupid. It's a blessing and a curse, because it means they expect the wrestling buffet to be top-notch - Espacially on the main event.
    So yeah, it was overbooked, and it's a dish another audiance might have swallowed gladly, but not us. It's a very difficult point to maintain, because i know TK always tries to make everyone happy and it seems he tried to cater to the more "sports-entertainment" folks who just want Telenovelas with head-locks - but no. That's not AEW, as much as the E-drones wants it to be.
    I think the PPV was very fun regardless, so i don't blame TK for going a step too far. I'm sure he'll learn from it. He always is.

    • @stalfos268
      @stalfos268 Год назад +1

      "That's not AEW, as much as the E-drones wants it to be. " Yup. And those types still aren't tuning in anyway. Trying to win WWE fanboys by going in a more WWE direction has never worked out long term for other promotions.

    • @omriex7
      @omriex7 Год назад

      I'm not sure they're going full WWE, but they are trying to connect with new audiances. It's a very tight rope to walk on, and it's reallty easy to fall into it. But i will say this: If you make me choose between a risk-taking, hit-or-miss, wrestling and carnage product who tries to cater to everyone, and a mediocre, dry, stale sport-entertainment product that never takes risks and cater mosly to children, my choice would be pretty damn easy...@@stalfos268

    While I can see the illogicality in Adam Cole being allowed to fight to defend the AEW World Championship on MJF's behalf when he's already on crutches himself once you pointed it out, it didn't occur to me at the time, I think because they never actually said MJF "wasn't _medically cleared,"_ they just said that he wasn't going to be able to make it to the match. Like they were expecting him to still be being treated at the local medical facili-sorry, _hospital_ when the match was due to start so he wouldn't be able to make it. That's why he had to steal the ambulance to make it back to the arena in time- he wasn't being examined backstage by Doc Samson, he'd been actually taken away from the venue, which would preclude him from appearing in the main event by default. So I can excuse that little plot hole.

Add to that the fact that he's never lost a singles match in AEW and basically had the better of Max for the past 6 weeks and I think it was all pretty well done. I really think the idea behind the weird mix up with the main event was to put into fans heads that there would be some sort of "fingerpoke 2.0". i know that's what i thought was coming. i thought Cole would enter the ring on MJF's behalf and turn on him, reverting back to his bullet club roots. tbh, i was a little disappointed this isn't what happened. maybe had that happened, but with a twist, MJF rushing to the ring and TK demanding a restart to the match or something. But yeah, i think that's what they wanted to put into the mind of fans during the earlier parts of the show.

    Been saying this about the main event: the injury angle is "needed" (I agree that I'd rather have had a straight-forward match between the two) because it's part of the longer story that MJF now takes risks to win that he never did as a heel, and he was being egged on by Cole this time to "do a dive" or "not take the countout" - he's being weakened. His neck was hurt for the Joe match, now his leg's busted; his friend was right that he had to do the big offense in order to beat White, and Max has learned to run off adrenaline now that he's embraced the crowd, but it's leaving Max more vulnerable as we head toward World's End, where I think he'll either lose the title or will win but have something happen that really turns the storyline towards its climax (e.g. reveal of who the Devil is). I'll buy into him being at "Super Cena" status if we get to that PPV and there's no twist to the story presented that makes it clear he's officially in the danger zone, but it'll take a lot more before he's there, let's not minimize just how over the top that got back in the day.
    As for Jay, I don't think it hurts him nearly as bad as some have argued; he never hit his finisher, still needed to be low blowed and hit with the ring, etc. Yes, Max was on one leg, but the actual match layout had me buying that he was running off that aforementioned adrenaline and that, combined with Jay's hubris and Max's cheating, was enough to seal the deal. I do agree, though, it's important he get into an important angle after this, all while he points out that it took cheating to beat him. End of the day, I fully admit that it wasn't the match I wanted, but it still had me tense as all hell during it.
    As for the Bucks vs. Golden Jets match, I think you're going to get your wish - we've seen "tension" in the Elite before, but the Bucks straight up kicked Kenny in the crotch this time, and now they're using social media to play up that they're "done with BTE", "taking time away from wrestling" and having Cutler phrase it like the Snoop Dogg announcement, etc. Basically, they're probably about to take things way too far, and maybe join the Callis family(?).

    It was a great pay-per-view. It felt pretty solid and I definitely enjoyed it. The booking around the main event did take me out of a match that I was looking forward to, but overall still loved the show.

    For some reason Full Gear didn't feel like a PPV to me. It just couldn't give me the vibe. I wonder if it was because of the monthly PPV from AEW or the Main Event drama. I still enjoyed the show. Liked the spicy drama as well but would have just preferred the normal competitive match which would have been an absolute banger.

    I don't feel like they have been in a creative rut at all. Especially over the last few months. But you're right... Their PPVs always deliver. Their PPVs are so far ahead of anything else in wrestling, regardless of company.
    Also, I feel like the main event angle was extremely interesting. Yes, they could have just kept it simple, but this was a much different way to go about what would have been a normal (but still incredible) match with interference.
    Overall, Full Gear was an outstanding PPV.
    BTW! THAT OVER THE TOP ROPE CUTTER WAS CRAZY.

    This was my first live attended PPV
    I think I was spoiled with this experience, I’ll never forget it 😅
    Also I don’t think it made Jay White look weak
    He didn’t lose clean and he was on a singles winning streak, he was realistically going to have to lose sometime and not having a clean win over him I don’t think diminishes his strength
    he was dominating a good amount of the match

    • @NM-ll1rl

      Dominated over a one-legged man, who actively was trying to cripple himself even more with unnecessary risks - in 3 on 1 situation, worked on an injured leg for almost 30 minutes, and still managed to lose. If this doesn't make White look weak, I don't know what will.

    I actually think the devil not appearing was clever because Adam Cole was on tv. Adds further doubt/proof it could be him.
    As for MJFs title Reign, I expect Samoa Joe to defeat him for the title and the huge reveal of who the devil is at Worlds End. It being in MJFs home town is why I believe some huge moves are going to happen regarding him.

  • @TheMRN9
    @TheMRN9 Год назад

    Completely agree about the booking of the main event. Everyone came out of that looking dumb. MJF for refusing to win via countout (totally against his character), Jay White for not destroying Max's knee (guess he forgot how to do the TTO?), Adam Cole for handing a foreign object TWICE to Jay White and AEW as a whole for telling the fans that Cole would for some reason be allowed to wrestle in the state he's in.
    AEW is supposed to be an alternative but this is exactly the kind of crap that makes an alternative necessary. Hopefully they see that this isn't it and change course.

Hope they add the AEW World Championship to that rivalry. It would add to the history and the prestige of that belt and help make that feud even bigger!
