- In today's video we are looking at a brand new SUPER MARIO WORLD hack (that looks a lot like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker) called "The Legend of Zelda: The Mini Quest" made by MaxwelHacks. This is one of the most visually impressive hacks I've played as it has a TON of custom enemies, custom backgrounds, custom sprites, custom boss fights and more!

Yeah, the sea is Mode 7. The regular levels used Mode 0, a background mode that allows 4 background layers!
I had a trouble with a multi-checkpoint patch, so those very far checkpoints was a sad downside. :(

@@aluciic Judging by Nintendo's prior history... if it gets popular, I wouldn't count on it being safe. They aren't terribly tolerant of this sort of thing.
pretty sure that most hacks use patches instead of giving a fully unique rom in order to avoid copyright infringement. and there have been tons of WAAY more popular hacks that never got taken down. this is just my limited knowledge however.
For those wondering, the overworld theme is the house interior music from the oracle games.

This hack is epic. It seems super well-made, and there was a lot of care put into it, quite obviously!
I'm not going to lie, I was expecting Ganondorf to turn into Ganon for a second form boss battle at 34:14 and was waiting to see Dave's face drop when it happened.

Dragon Roost Island's dungeon in this hack uses the Palace theme from Zelda II, and Forest Haven uses Zelda Minish Cap music.
I'm very late but I can honestly say that this was such a joy to watch and thank you for not holding back any of your excitment Dave because I was just as excited and it made watching this even better.
DGR: Wind Waker is my second or third favorite Zelda game.
Me: I got you beat, Dave. It's my first and most favorite.
But seriously, I agree. This is one of the most impressive SMW hacks I've ever seen, if not the most impressive one.

This game was golden, huge props to MaxwelHacks on the design, this was amazing.
I agree with Dave... seeing this makes me want to replay Wind Waker for... idk I lost count, but I haven't replayed it recently. It's such a fantastic game that was crapped on when it came out, but has held up phenomenally well and I think it has the best story in the entire Zelda universe and the best Link

Dave: CHECKPOINT CITY, it is a beautiful city that checkpoint city.
Also Dave: Almost not getting the checkpoint and dieing to a ball
A lot of these things are from Minish Cap as well. Obviously the slime boss is, but the vertical rolling barrel effect was also in Minish Cap during a section of the first dungeon. and you could move around inside it and manipulate the roll.

Some of the level art reminds me very much of Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, in a good way. Also the Water Temple reminded me of the very fun level Ecco II level Crystal springs! 💜 🐬 The boss is quite reminiscent of a boss in that game too.

What music is playing during the deku tree level? I've never played much Zelda... but I've been stuck with that tune in my head for years without being able to find out which one it is
