The good old days when Singapore Changi had 3 US carriers flying red eye with 2 daily United Flights. UA 890/891 - SIN - NRT - LAX UA 895/896 -SIN - HKG - SFO and Northwest Airlines NW 005/006 - SIN - NRT - PDX Great memories working with them. Awesome crews!
Mongolia is a really neat add. I think it's creative and smart. Often people wanting these more infrequently reached destinations accept they will need a day or two layover to get there and multiple airlines. Living in Canada, this gives me a ton of interest and I hope they'll be bookable connections using Air Canada
I remember flying on a Untied 747-400 from NRT to Hong Kong's Kai Tak Airport. I will never forget the thrilling landing as the plane flew over Kowloon.
Lots of people just throwing out destinations in the comments. Any flight will only be added if they can sync up with the arrival and departure banks to US hub flights at NRT.
@@Zee-q7lBefore Covid, UA thought of adding Denver from Incheon. I wonder if they would proceed to that plan; it definitely would add tremendous connecting flight within US…
NJ & NY has a pretty large korean population so EWR would be a perfect route. GMP-NRT could work too. I also think there’s gonna be some new flights over the years to Vietnam and Philippines with their newer airports and high demand
Passport Bros connect to flight to a tinier island called Siargao where they can party everynight an airport where only ATRs and DH8 can land. Cebu is not just passport bros its where many koreans and some japanese visit beaches, snorkeling and some canyoneering among other nature related trips to travel and of course study english. Landed once at 12am local time from PUS most are flights from ICN and PUS
I really like the Guam based crew and equipment on at least one of those routes. Seems like a good plan with a potentially high payoff. Really looking forward to this route expansion.
My first business class flying was UA's 747-400 on NRT>HKG. It was a gate upgrade It looks like that UA is using 737s to open new markets in Asia and use NRT as their transit hub, SFO is now running short of gates, especially international gates due to the terminal 3 upgrade. Maybe we can see NRT-PEN/PNH/HKT and other SE Asia secondary cities in the future with this strategy while having the major SE Asia cities like KUL/BKK having nonstop to SFO on 787
Nothing beats flying on the queen of the skies. My first business class experience was roundtrip on an Asiana 747-400 between Seoul Gimpo and LAX in 95 or 96.
Ok but when I was little in 2002 I very clearly remember we would regularly fly United from ICN to NRT when we would fly back to the states for vacation while my family was stationed in Korea
The Trump admin should smart up to not put too much pressure on China, otherwise Chinese airspace may be next, and that's it for United. However, I completely doubt banning of US airlines on Chinese airspace may happen.
The route from Japan to interior China is already widely used for Japan to/from European routes so it's not that "interesting"... the city pair is already served by two Mongolian airlines
Back when Delta had the NRT hub, I got to fly the NRT-SIN and NRT-BKK routes, both of them were around more than half the price than JAL and ANA. That's how I got into fifth-freedom flights as it brings price competition, worth pointing that United stil had NRT as hub as well at the same time, good old times. Wasn't a fan of Delta closing its hub, first pointing the fact that KAL Lounges are subpar comparing to the Delta Sky Club in NRT (got to check HND still), and ICN T2 is overwhelmingly bigger than NRT T1, not suitable for short connections. As a Tokyo based flyer, I'm looking forward flying the 3 new routes alongside the NRT-CEB route next year. If the goal is to not compete with ANA, if United decides to take the same approach and use their 737s, can't rule out a possibility to start routes such as NRT-PUS and NRT-DAD, however, if they can base off a 777, I would love routes such as NRT-TAS, NRT-HKT or NRT-DPS.
UA flies to TKK, HNL, ROR, KSA, KWA, MAJ, MNL, NGO, KIX, PNI, SPN, HND, NRT and YAP from GUM. Mostly to the nearby islands. Not as extensive as it has been in the past. Continental used to fly to northern Queensland from GUM.
@ Well can’t flight planners put in routing that takes it along Japan and then turn right as you fly over South Korea and China? Aircraft, especially cargo avoid Russia all of the time.
Using Narita as a hub for connections is fine as long as they don't expect people to deal with the BS involved with getting to Tokyo. I've only had severe delays using Japanese rail over the years while using Skyliner or Sky Access. Hundreds of trains all over the country, no issues- but NRT to the city is always a complete mess.
8:32 Really, United? Okay, United. Work your magic on this: nonstop flights from the United States to Africa. There are so few flights serving Africa from the US Mainland. I hope that's on the list after Asia.
United announced they were adding flights from Washington DC to Dakar, Senegal next year, and just launched flights from New York/Newark to Marrakesh, Morocco. This comes after United already flies the following routes: Washington DC-Accra, Ghana Washington DC-Lagos, Nigeria Washington DC-Cape Town, South Africa New York/Newark-Cape Town, South Africa New York/Newark-Johannesburg, South Africa That is 7 flights to 5 different countries.

UNITED just trying to keep it flying slot at NRT ? Japan govt plan to have a Big expansion at NRT soon( FYI terminal One will be tear down and rebuild to be for non Business travel and HND will be handing most of Business travel with to much flying slot control by ANA and JAL of over 80% of all flight in and out of HND:( the Japan Govt are not very happy :( So NRT airport slot will be great for asset for any Airlines that can hold on to it ?555 Once you lose the slot at NRT it should be hard to get it back ?555 And for friend of DELTA it will move from NRT to ICN as it HUB joint Korea Airlines :)as Asia partner :)
If Ana / jal runs than united must rethink it’s actions as they’re more professional and offer better services by the way I think united must explore Banglore and Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Amritsar once as their destination because more people from these are regions are going to USA though they must even try Bangkok along with other East Asian nations this could really help united become America’s no 1 airline beating Delta airlines.
It doesn't make sense to fly west to get to anywhere in India from the US unless the flight is starting from California/Washington/Portland. With how constrained LAX is, the only option would be for DAL to fly from SEA or UA to fly from SFO. Air India already does direct SFO to Banglore Doubt there are many busines class passengers for a direct flight to Hyderabad or Amritsar from there. The Middle East carriers will offer better flights and connections.

With Asiana leaving Star Alliance, I feel like United could use some Seoul Routes.
Maybe a 2nd SFO-ICN flight or an EWR-ICN route, but I doubt ICN will see UA flights from any other destinations.

I really like these new routes, very creative by United!
Hopefully United will bring their max 8s for the pacific island hopper and their Guam flights! So happy for them!
Awesome! 👏🏻👍🏻
Used to love that NRT - BKK route on the 747-400
Think the tokyo to Cebu we expand fast as all flights are leaving over booked
For NRT-KHH, Star Alliance partner EVA Air does serve the route too, though
But Eva is not a joint venture partner like ANA.
Is the level of United service from Narita different from in-flight customer service offered by United flights originating from US hubs?
yes. exactly the same as the offering from the Guam hub, save for better Japanese catering.
I hope all airlines go back to doing fifth freedom, that was the best and let you try different airlines if you can’t visit their main city
Noted!
New White paint inbound to establish a new code share Airlines Service Mark and Trade Mark by the end of November 2024.
Narita - Ulaanbaatar would be interesting to see since United will need to avoid both North Korean and Russian airspaces

They are not creating a hub again. These are just opportunist routes while the demand is there

Could SAI be a new possible destination for UA? Cambodia's newest and largest airport could use some more traffic.
Can UA add, LAS to NRT?
No. Narita I is served from all of its US hubs except ORD ( and LAX if you consider LAX as a hub).
Still prefer Asian carriers instead of US’s for intra Asia route even Asia - US
Previously, there was NRT-ORD route. What happened?
Moved it to HND.
I wish Delta would have a bigger presence in Asia. Pre-merger, Northwest Airlines had a massive presence in Asia and now Delta completely scrapped it.
that’s another mistake delta made with northwest flight system.: delta should have known that northwest asia flight network are stronger than delta’s
The first US carrier to Cebu.....That's something....
Wow US carrier to Mongolia!
What happened to the old Continental GUM hub?
It still exists, United inherited it through the merger with Continental and they’ve continued flying it ever since
UA flies to TKK, HNL, ROR, KSA, KWA, MAJ, MNL, NGO, KIX, PNI, SPN, HND, NRT and YAP from GUM.
Mostly to the nearby islands. Not as extensive as it has been in the past. Continental used to fly to northern Queensland from GUM.
Why not fly from SFO to Ulaanbaatar?
Could it be that a direct route would take it over Russia? Because if that's the case, United can't fly over Russian air space.
@ Well can’t flight planners put in routing that takes it along Japan and then turn right as you fly over South Korea and China? Aircraft, especially cargo avoid Russia all of the time.
Way too little demand, and too far away to operate with a single-aisle aircraft
united should also fly to narita instead of haneda from IAD and ORD then
Those routes are more for business travelers. And ANA already has ORD-Narita.

It is not 5th freedom, if they use NRT as start and finish of the return flight and dont go back to the US.

because maybe they are scared of planes
united has such bad maintenance, there is a incident that happens with every plane type every 3 days

Why? All of their international 777-200s along with many of their A320s have been retrofitted with a great, new interior
I hope they upgrade to 787/767/777 in their Cebu flights
at that point, why not just fly direct from los angeles to cebu?
There is not enough passenger traffic for a large aircraft.
