I'm a Aussie scot. My family come from Glasgow in 1924 to Australia to make a better life but the scottish blood still runs very thick in My family great tunes
I wish, I wish so much I had access to Scottish and Irish music when I was young. I listen as much as I can to this music. Making up for 40 years of lost time.
I remember my Grandpa singing these songs. Born in Scotland raisied in Northern Ireland til moving to the US. A good man and soul. R.I.P. Poppy. Miss you so much.
This was a song my great grandmother would use to sing to me as A lullaby i break down in tears when I hear this song since her passing may she travel the realms peacefully and safely until we met again
This is music exactly how I like it. Being from Zimbabwe this genre could have missed me completely. Ever so grateful for whoever played me Fields of Athenry those many years ago. It lead me to this and much more. Next is to visit a pub in Dublin where I can listen to some live sets. Not sure which pub is best for this but I shall find out.
I’ve been listening to the Irish and Scot music lately. Most of my family are Norwegian. I live in the Florida Keys. But I’ve always been drawn to the music. I’m 46 and grew up in the states. I just love the music!!!
I'm of Irish and Scottish descent, and this song makes my heart feel close to Ireland even though I have yet to go there. It is truly a beautiful song.
I played this through some B&W speakers earlier today to listen to while tidying up I ended up sitting down, tuning the volume up, closing my eyes and singing along
Keep the Celtic music going. This was played at funeral for each of the Clancy brothers. Tommy Clancy's son Finbarr is in this band and is keeping the flag flying.
I also noticed Aoife Clancy sitting in the crowd on this song. My family and I listen to Cherish The Ladies, and still have CDs from when she was a founding member of the group. Lovely voice!
I'm not of any sort of Celtic descent, but I have a strong background in music. And The High Kings have more musicality than many other comparable groups. Their vocal blending is absolutely amazing, and the accompaniment is perfectly suited. I tip my hat to you, High Kings, and I thank Pandora Radio for introducing me to you!
I'm from the USA and love the High kings- listened to them on a road trip with my sisters in Ireland and saw them play live in Cork- after the show they gave autographs and when we said we came from California to see them they said "Awesome" in that cali way! Thank you High kings for being so awesome!!
I remember the Clancy Brothers singing this when I was a very young child. This song has always touched my heart for some reason. I think it is the melody/ air. It makes me happy and sad at the same time.
I just bought tickets to their Columbus, Ohio show on April 29th through PBS. I saw Anuna when they came to town. Ah, fantastic. I am completely in love with Irish music!
bondie 45 give them Time to fill their Fathers (the Clancy Brothers) shoes and we all should be happy that their Tradition of playing the most wonderfull Music in the World continues
I love how these guys sing the traditional Irish ballads! The music literally takes me to the rolling pastures and hills of Ireland! So much serenity and peacefulness in the lyrics to these Celtic masterpieces!
I love to listen to them singing together! I love being part Irish! Thank you to my Poppy for singing this to me as a little girl! I remember dancing on his feet to this song! Bring up good memories
Saw The High Kings in Cincinnati last Friday, March 4th. What a special show that was for me, my father and daughter. We are proudly Irish!!! Beautiful, just beautiful. They are on their US tour - don't miss them!
Will ye go, Lassie go? And we'll all go together To pluck wild mountain thyme All around the blooming heather Will ye go, Lassie go? I will build my love a tower Near yon' pure crystal fountain And on it I will build All the flowers of the mountain Will ye go, Lassie go? And we'll all go together To pluck wild mountain thyme All around the blooming heather Will ye go, Lassie go? If my true love she were gone I would surely find another To pluck wild mountain thyme Grows around the blooming heather Will ye go, Lassie go? And we'll all go together To pluck wild mountain thyme All around the blooming heather Will ye go, Lassie go?
my grandfather loved this song so much and he just died in April. I miss him dearly, and this song makes me think of him. It's abosultley beautiful and it gives me shivers and makes me want to cry sometimes as well.
First time I heard this song was at a intertribal gathering, song by a scottish-cherokee brother, with just him and his guitar, he said the scottish colonized the ozarks mountains where the cherokee lived, and they lived together in the mountains, so i always thought it come from there. Either way , I always appreciated the tribal-clannish styles of the irish-scottish people more than any other european group!!
This is a Scottish song, written by Robert Tannahill from Paisley. It was based on his poem called "The Braes of Balquhidder". It is usually called "Wild Mountain Thyme"
Amen! only thing that seperates the scots and irish is the sea! Blood is Blood, Familys, Family. We'll always be one people And as such credit where credits due. This beautiful melody is indeed scottish, irish just feel the same as everyone else, that the songs' beautiful, so haunting and yet warm...a masterpiece.

i am a religious jewish girl in brooklyn NY, with my ancestry in hungary, russia, austria, and romania. i don't even know anyone with irish blood, except on proffessor, but something about the music goes right to my heart from the melodies to the instrumentsd and i am a hopeless celtic addict.
I grew up with folk and country music. I always loved songs/music that tells a story, that takes me somewhere. I seemed drawn to Irish and Scotish songs when they sing it's unbelievably soothing.
There is no doubt that this is a scottish song, but Irish and Scottish trad music is very similar. I would say Ireland has remembered and revived alot of our trad songs and Scotland doesn't remember alot of their traditional songs. Great song, beautifully sung.
These guys should be so so much bigger and have billions of views not just hundreds of thousands because they are so incredible I would love to hear them all day on my tele and stuff.
Damn right It makes you proud to be Irish!!! This and so many of their songs give you goosebumps and take you to so many places that you only dream of. Of to go back every day.....
Doesn't matter if the songs are scottish or irish, Gateway to Graceland isn't either. I listen to music to appreciate the blend of voices and the melody. The High Kings are great, I just "discovered" them, thanks for posting.
This song makes me so sad.. I am almost gonna cry.. It reminds me my old loves..It breaks my heart.. They feel the songs.. That is why it is impacting my spirit and soul..

brill true Irishmen IRA
@rob9641 Tommy Makem was not his uncle
He was an individual singer and joined the Clancy Brothers
Finnbarr Clancy dad is Bobby Clancy not Tom Clancy or Tommy Makem.

I also noticed Aoife Clancy sitting in the crowd on this song. My family and I listen to Cherish The Ladies, and still have CDs from when she was a founding member of the group. Lovely voice!
Of course she would be there to watch her brother Finbarr Clancy perform with his new group. I'm sure the rest of the family was there.

a great Celtic song... Still amongst my all time favorites... Reminds me of my home town..

All around the blooming heather

To pluck wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?
And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
