This song was played at my granddad's funeral 3 weeks ago. He was a fanatic bagpipe player himself, and 3 days before his death he even played another concert, not even thinking about his cancer. We will never forget you granddad! 💕
This song was also played at my grandfather funeral a week ago. He was no bagpipe player but loved being an Irishman. He too suffered from cancer. Such a great song.
This was my brother's parting song. Tears still fall when I hear it ... I love and miss him still. Until we meet again, Christopher Young (1950 - 2010).
My youngest son just passed. Only 38 years old. His funerals tomorrow. We're playing this after his funeral in the gymnasium. The church won't let us take shots during this song in the Sanctuary. That's understandable. Love You Corey💞❤️💞
Actually, The Parting Glass has been around in Ireland since at least the 17th century or even earlier. It was the traditional song to sing at the end of a gathering of family and friends before it was succeeded by Robert Burns' "Auld Lang Syne"...
I'm an old fart from the US of A, years removed and culturally isolated from the marvelous Scottish cultural, but I get all goose bumps every time I watch this .I'd give up my front seat in Hell for one evening in a real Scottish pub. What a way to go.
One of my dad's best friends posted this song on Facebook a while back following a firefighter tragedy. The song instantly made me think of my dad, who passed away at 7:17am on Christmas morning 2012 from cancer. I felt apart. This song speaks metaphorically to so many levels. I feel absolutely blessed to have found such a beautiful composition. After I began playing this song for him, my little boy, Declan, requests this song almost every night before he goes to sleep. He just turned 2, and he knows almost the entire song. Warms my heart.
My cousin Sean recently passed away and this song brought peace and love over our family and hopefully jet does the same. This song is pure beauty and actually has a meaning unlike today's music. R.I.P. Sean Martin U.S. Soldier.

Guys in kilts swirling bagpipes have always given my goosebumps and often tears. Love a Capella signing. Hope you visit the West coast of USA too, there's plenty Irish Scots over there.
My father was lowered to this song 6 months ago he was taken by surprise and unexpectedly most difficult 6 months of my life but when I listen to this song I shead few tears of happiness as I remember him

I could listen to these Irish Boy 'o's day and day out. The glory of their harmony, the God bumps that roll o'er me, the sadness mixed with gladness too, I raise the glass in toast to you.
Fuck me, this is an incredibly moving song anyway but they just turned the emotion level to 11, tears are streaming down my face. Good job lads. Good night and joy be with you all
I was listening to this song in my car on the way to work the other day and it reminded me of my Dad who has passed and it brought tears to my eyes. Oh how Mack loved his Irish heritage! I raise my glass to my Dad a true Irish McKay!
A couple of years ago I was asked to play bagpipes to this recording for a wedding reception. I did, so now I have three versions of" The Parting Glass"( 3 different tunes) in my repertoire.
No matter how what the situation is I keep coming here when I drink my whiskey, when i'm sad, when i'm thinking about my grand father or when I want to have a drink with my father again. I know one day he wont be able to cut wood or have a drink with me and when that day comes, I'm going to cry because I won't be able to work with him, watch Comanche Moon with him or drink with him... but when that day does come, this will play and I'll raise my glass and drink for the both of us. I love you Patrick, there will never be another dad like you and I'll make you proud.
I'm not even Irish, I'm Italian/American, my in-laws are Indian/Dutch, we played this loud at new years just after midnight. I never heard it before. We were all swaying and singing with our drinks. The music swelled and the bagpipes came in, I couldn't hold it in any longer, I started crying tears of joy. I'll remember that moment in good company for a long time!

It breaks my heart to play this song. There is so much sorrow in my heart for those of us who are not Irish ... or do not know the joy of looking upon this grand world through bright tears. God bless us all.
General Martin Dempsey. Sad to see him go. He truly cared more about the Soldiers under his command than furthering his career. His leadership will be missed.

The High Kings are an incredible group, It is this group that turned me on to Gaelic music. Martin Feury is the son of Finbar Feury - the most famous Irish folk singer ever. Finbar Clancy - son of one of the Clancy Brothers was named after Finbar. I wish they performed more often in the US. This rendition of Parting Glass is awesome. Another good rendition of the song is by Celtic Woman. It would be amazing for both groups to sing the song Parting Glass together. This will be my "send-ff" song when the time comes.
A most beautiful song, sung so beautifully by a foursome who must have been brothers in a past life...sensational harmonies and a sound that makes me proud to be Irish.

This has become my theme song. Kudos!
A most beautiful song, sung so beautifully by a foursome who must have been brothers in a past life...sensational harmonies and a sound that makes me proud to be Irish.
Of all the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company.
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas, it was to none but me!
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be to you all
So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate’er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away.
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay.
But since it fell into my lot
That I should rise and you should not,
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate’er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate’er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Good night and joy be to you all
Beautiful, just beautiful... I can listen this song for more than 1000 times, and still not fed up with it.
I am so proud to be an Irishman.
I WISH I was an Irishman
Same here.
I'm an Irishman too. God bless you my fellow brother!
Me too.
My Great-great-great Grandfather was from Ireland. Don't know how much that counts, but damn is it a good feeling to have some Irish in me.
Gives me the goose bumps each time I hear it. I'm one of the pipers featured in the video. Class night!!!!
I LOVE this song. God, Why didn't you make me irish?
this is a beautiful song and we played it at our father's funeral. It describes him well.
This is in my will as the departure finale to my funeral...Eddie Vettter's Rise is to be the overture...what goes on between I care not...and after I hope everyone has a good time at the party...
No doubt they will raise a glass to you for choosing the music :)
Helenaville Thank you for your kind words and consideration...so here's to you a parting glass...enjoy your weekend...terve....
Awesome, I remember watching this program with my late father, who was very proud of his Irish heritage, which makes me proud of mine. Thank you for sharing this.
The harmony and unity of their voices is breathtaking... amazing song.
I was wondering if I could use this song in a video game project I'm working on. Would that be ok?
Me and my 15 classmates sang this song at our graduation ceremony last spring.
I'll never forget that day. "Good night and joy be with you all."
I may only be 1/8 irish but dammit thats close enough. This is glorious
God I love this music and being Irish. as soon as I get the chance, I'm moving back.
